What was the first event held in Tampa Bay's Raymond James Stadium in 1998? Answer: Billy Graham Crusade. Winner: Joey Martin.
Bonus Questions
What Saints kicker holds the record for consecutive field goals, and how many? Answer: Morten Andersen from Nov. 1992 until halfway through September 1993, 25 in a row. Winner: Eddie Brewer.
Name the Montreal Expo catcher who slugged three home runs in a 1977 game. Answer: Gary Carter. Winner: Adam Daigle.
Joey gets three of five unanswered, ya'll are slacking really bad. Did ya'll know that this makes Joey's week? Are ya'll just trying to make him feel better for the holidays?
If any of ya'll missed the Louisiana Lafayette vs. San Diego State game, you missed a good'un! Lot's of scoring, even an ESPN play of the day! And I feel good for ULL as they've got a bowl game win and it only took 41 years!
Well the chance of another team having an undefeated season are over, the Miami Dolphin fans can relax now. Green Bay lost to the Kansa City Chiefs and if you're going to lose to a team, it might as well be one with a losing record!
New Orleans started a little slow but somebody must have slapped Drew Brees on the sidelines and woke him up because he went off! Not even a game!
Washington beats the Giants and I sure hate that for Eli! (lots of sarcasm)
San Diego won big over Baltimore but, I think I hear the fat lady singing already for their season....I say, "Fire Norv!" They're better than this.
Denver, in my opinion, lost the game at the end of the 2nd quarter....tailback fumble, Tebow fumble and a dropped punt (that he should have never even attempted to catch) I believe were the mistakes that cost them the game, that's 13 points on those turnovers that will just take the breath out of a team.
We've got Pittsburgh and San Fran tonight, should be a good game with San Fran a 3 point favorite.
It's been another great year in high sports so far and it'll only get better next year. Basketball will be more fun to watch after the holidays and then I'll get out and watch a few games.
This will be the last update for this year, I'll be enjoying the holidays with my family and friends and I'll update next year. Ya'll have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and don't get too caught up in the holidays that you don't forget the real meaning of Christmas...God bless you all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Name the Kansas City Royal who was elected by
the fans to the All-Star Game in 1989. Answer:
Bo Jackson.
Winner: Jpeu Martin.
Bonus Questions

Michigan State's Mateen Cleaves, Charlie Bell and
Morris Peterson because of where they were from.

Answer: Ray Brown, Perry's teammate
at Clemson. Winner: Dave Myers.
Who was the first U.S. born player picked in the first round of the NHL draft?
Answer: Bobby
Carpenter. Winner: Jose' Martin.
Geez, nobody got Bo Jackson? I'm the worst person in the world at trivia, but even I knew that one! How easy does Joey have to make these?
Generally this is where I talk about high school sports but.....I ain't seen a basketball game yet and as most of ya'll know, I hate early season basketball! Kinda reminds me of Roller Derby, still a loyt of football in the boys games and a lot of Cat Fighting in the girls games. But it will get better next year and they'll get to playing real basketball.
The Heisman Trophy was won by Robert Griffin III and I expected him to win it and he did so, and he got the win by the South votes where we had two from the SEC entered. Andrew Luck will make a great NFL quarterback under a west coast style offense, unless you've been hiding under a rock and haven't seen him play, he ain't got a rocket strapped to his shoulder but, he's very good underneath and short yardage and seems able to find an open receiver after scanning the field. What Griffin brings to the table is the ability to not only throw the ball to any place on the field at any range but he has mobility and speed which just gives NFL defenses fits! There's also no doubt that Trent Richardson will pound the ball in the NFL, he's a beast and there are several teams waiting on their chance to take him. But with it looking like Indianapolis getting the first pick, I still think they'll go after Luck, I just think he fits their scheme better. But who knows, anything can happen on Draft Day!
I was watching a hockey game the other night....oh wait, it was Xavier and Cincinnati!!! Did you hear the quote? "We're a bunch of gangsters, but we're not thugs" Uh...yes you are! They need to make an example out of both of these teams before it's too late!
On to Pro Football......Indianapolis improves to 0-13, maybe 4sped needs to send them some pudd'n...New Orleans squeked by, played bad and looked bad and got a win never the less....Dan Diego blasted Buffalo, dang it! They're making Norv look good again! OK, I hate the Cowboys, always have, always will (sorry Andrew) and I hate Eli Manning ( don't even ask, it raises by blood pressure) but I think I liked seeing the Cowboys lose more, so although I have mixed emotions, I think I would have liked the game more if the Cowboys would have put Manning out for the year!
Monday Night Football pit the Rams of St. Louis against the Seahawks of Seattle....The Rams are 2-10 on the season and the Seahawks are 5-7, if you watch this game tonight, please don't tell me about it because I could care less!!!! I'm just hoping that the Big Bang Theory re-runs come on tonight on TBS, even their re-runs are better than this game will be!
Maybe some of ya'll know this, maybe all of ya'll know this but, I didn't until somebody told me....The new Ole Miss football coach Hugh Freeze came from Briarcrest Academy, the same school that Michael Orr was from, (yeah, Freeze came to Ole Miss the same time Orr did) although he was portrayed as somewhat of a dim-wit in the movie, the guy will try and make 80 or so offensive plays a game, he spreads them out, no huddle and runs very little. This could get interesting since Mackey ran the spread in Jr. College, so he would be my favorite pick to get the starting nod. Heck, can anything be any worse for the Black Bears? Win or lose, they'll be more fun to watch!
Also, enjoy the new picture below, it's really easy to get Hoff to pose for us!
That's a wrap for this week, ya'll be careful traveling, try to miss the deer, unless it's a really big buck, then it's worth it!

Name the first USFL player voted into the Pro
Football Hall of Fame. Answer: Jim Kelly. Winner: Eddie
Brewer.
Bonus Questions
Between 1998-2003, Tiger Woods won five ESPY's for outstanding male golfer in
six years. Who won the other one in that time span?
Answer: Mark O'Meara.
Winner: Joey Martin.
Who was the first freshman in the history of North Carolina basketball to lead
the team in scoring? Answer:
Joseph Forte.
Winner: Joey Martin.
ESPN HD debuted in 2003 with thwart baseball match-up?
Answer: Angels vs Rangers. Winner: Dave Myers.
Name the player credited with being the first to use the jump shot.
Answer:
Wyoming's Kenny Sailors. Winner: Joey Martin.
Wow! Joey gets 3 of 5 unanswered, I guess he must have noticed because this weeks questions are even easier! Heck, even I knew a few of them!
We all complain about the state that is the BCS, and it doesn't look like it is going to get any better any time soon unless.....We do something about it, I said "We" because "We" can do something about it, don't go to any bowl games, if they start the game and the only people there are the players family (they have to go) then the BCS might take a hint and finally do something. I would suspect that they would lose money from the gate and also it would really look bad when they pan around the TV cameras and there's no crowd! That would send a message!!!! Can we start a grass roots message starting right now?
OK, so it's LSU and Alabama again....I just hope I can stay awake this time because the first one was BORING!!!!! But one thing is certain, whoever wins THIS one is the BCS Champion...Period! It is the way it is and everyone has to live with it for this year, it could change next year (see post above) I didn't like the way it was calculated and although I'm glad to see that the SEC will keep the sweep going (because I'm a fan of the SEC, John L.) I hope LSU wins by 30 and Oklahoma State wins by 40 just so we can hear some controversy about how messed up the BCS system is!
Have you seen some of the Bowl match-ups? It's utterly sickening, I may have to watch college Lacrosse or Billiards on ESPN instead! It would definitely be more entertaining! How hard is it to let #3 play #4 and #5 play #6 and so on? It's all about the gate money!!!! (Please re-read first post) The NCAA has fumbled and nobody wants to jump on the ball, plain and simple.
Tiger Woods wins the Chevron golf tournament for his first win in 2 years, it's not an official PGA sanctioned event that counts towards points or money listings but, it does show that Tiger may be back! He birdied the last two holes to win by a single shot over Zack Johnson. I'll admit I was not on the Tiger Train when all the scandalous details of his off the field activities were going down but, I am, in my opinion, a better person by forgiving him and hoping that he has seen the error in his ways and has decided to be a better person, nothing has told me that he hasn't. After all, aren't we suppose to forgive? I just really enjoy seeing someone with his abilities shred a golf course to pieces as if the course architects thought they could render any golfer helpless in their design. Good Luck Tiger, I'm your fan again and hope I'm allowed back on the train.
How bout dem Saints? Drew Brees is back Baby! He's looking like his ole self again picking apart defenses at will. And the Saints offensive line is giving him all the time he wants! Now if they could just get some defensive backs, they'd have it all!
The San Diego Chargers play tonight on Monday Night Football against the Jacksonville Jaguars, this game will be played at Jacksonville where the Jags are 2-3 at home but, the Bolts are 1-4 in away games. The Jags are 3-8 on the year while the Bolts are 4-7 (sounding exciting huh? yeah, if your TV is only stuck on ESPN) The Bolts are favored by 3 and the over/under is 39. My only hope is that the Bolts can lose the rest of their games and they'll finally fire Norv Turner!!!!!
That's all I got for this week, ya'll be safe and I'll catch ya on The Board!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bogataj. Winner: Eddie Brewer.
What was the nickname of the offensive line O.J. Simpson ran behind at Buffalo?
Answer: The Electric Company. Winner: Dave Myers.
Prior to Tiger Woods, who was the only golfer to win three pro majors in the
same year? Answer: Ben Hogan. Winner: Jesse West.
Another week without a main trivia question answered and Joey gets the credit, not just ain't right!
Congratulations to the Cathedral Greenwave football team, coaches and fans for an excellent season and going further than any other Cathedral team has been in a long time!
Wow, high school football is over here in the Miss-Lou and it seems like it just started a few weeks ago. Time flies when you're having fun and for most of the seniors, it was their last game in organized football, but the memories that they take with them will last a lifetime.
The LSU and Arkansas game was a pretty good game to watch for awhile, then the LSU offense just wore them out and put the game away, even got kinda ugly at the end! I don't know who can give them a game other than Alabama but, they've already beat them so, we'll just have to wait and see how the BCS computer spits it out.
If you don't know how the BCS ranked them this week, here they are:
1) LSU
2) Alabama
3) Oklahoma State
4) Stanford
5) Virginia Tech
6) Houston
7) Boise State
8) Arkansas
9) Oregon
10) Oklahoma
Oklahoma and Oklahoma State still play each other this week, so something could mess them up. Virginia Tech ain't really played anybody. Houston, really? I can't believe that Arkansas even stayed in the top 10. Does anybody really see even one team other than Alabama that can even stay on the field with LSU? This is really getting messy and I'm even wondering how good the bowl games are going to be! And if for some reason that Georgia beats LSU, it's going to be an even more messier situation! But I don't think that will happen, LSU will do to them the same thing they've done to everybody else, wear them out!
If any of ya'll caught the Chargers and Broncos game yesterday, that went into overtime, you'll understand why I hate Norv Turner even more than I did before! The Bolts have a kicker with a pretty good leg, it's 3rd down and the guy can make the kick from where they're at, so ole Norv tries a run play that everybody knows they're just trying to get a few extra yards to make it a little easier for the kicker, I said EVERYBODY because they were lined up like they were on the 1 inch line from the goal line, so the Broncos stuff the line and they lose about 4 or 5 yards and the guy misses the field goal. The Broncos get the ball back and a few Tim Tebow runs later, they kick a field goal and win. The Chargers have lost 6 in a row now and I still haven't heard any rumblings about firing this jerk! Another opportunity blown by Norv Turner!!
But tonight we have the New Orleans Saints vs the New York Giants on Monday Night Football!!!! For those of ya'll that have forgotten, I don't like Eli Manning (he dissed my Bolts for New York) The Saints need this win not only for their record but, to gain the confidence they need as they move forward. The season will be ending in 5 more weeks, so they need to stack on more "W's" to earn some kind of any kind of spot in the play-offs.
I heard quite a few stories about deer harvested so far this year and it seems we're growing some nice ones around the Miss-Lou, you probably saw the the buck that young Brock Farmer got in the Democrat, well his dad was telling me how Brock has passed on several nice bucks before he got this one, now that's teaching a young hunter right! They've gotten 2 nice bucks that scored over 170 over at Glasscock Island and probably most of ya'll have seen Jimmy Riley's 190 class buck taken over on Giles Island. Heck, the rut ain't even hit yet, there ain't no telling what lies ahead for the rest of this season. But if you have a story, please send me an e-mail, and pictures if you have them.
That's all for this week, I'll catch ya'll on The Board!!!!!!!!!!!!

throwing a golf ball around the University of Missouri golf course. Name him.

Douglas V. Shipe. Winner: Joey

Bonus Questions

Raiders in 1967. Name him. Answer:
Don Maynard.
Winner: Joey Martin.
This former San Diego Padre hit five home runs in a doubleheader against Atlanta

hitting E minor on his guitar. Name him. Answer: Dick
LeBeau. Winner: Dave Myers.
This former Chicago White Sox was known as "Ol Aches and Pains." Name him.
Answer: Luke Appling. Winner: Farley Kinchen.
I did receive a correct answer to the main trivia question but, the person was already a winner this season, so Joey gets the credit. We're going for the sweep this week, easy questions but, you can't use Wikipedia!
Congratulations to the Trinity Saints on a great year, not too shabby considering they moved up to class AA and still made a run. They'll be returning some good ball players for next year and they have some younger guys that got a lot of experience this year, they ought to be in the mix again for sure!
Cathedral puts away Nanih Waiya last week and while most thought that Cathedral almost let them back in the game in the 2nd half, it wasn't anything like that, they played a lot of younger guys in the 2nd half and rested some key players. I've been told that this week against Noxapter, it won't be as easy. The Greenies will have to play 4 quarters of disciplined football to get the "W" in this contest plus they have to play away...which is stupid in my opinion! Winners should always get the home field advantage, that is the reward for winning so many games!
Boy do we have a mess in the BCS!!!! OK, here are some scenario's and I'm sure you've watched enough TV to already have heard some of these.....What happens if LSU loses to Arkansas and Alabama beats Auburn bad? Would Bama go to the SEC championship game? And if they did and Bama lost, would Arkansas go the the title game? It could happen! What happens if LSU loses the SEC championship game, would Bama play in the championship game? This one is probably true but, who would they play? Virginia Tech? They ain't played hardly anybody and they're sitting up there in the top 5 as is Oklahoma State but that could change next week as well!.....it all adds up to a BCS nightmare and it's times like this that the BCS needs to realize, we need a play-off system. I know there are people that say that fans won't travel for multiple games but, everybody else is doing it, they'll still make money from TV broadcasting rights and I'm sure they'll still sell tickets. Whatever happens this year (unless LSU wipes everybody out) they'll be one loss teams claiming they never had the chance. I really don't won't to see an LSU/Alabama re-match, it's already been played, give another one loss team a chance if that's the way it's dealt out.
Golf is a strange game, just when you think you've got it figured out, you realize you don't! I played Friday evening after playing so good last weekend and was ready to tear the course up! Wrong, I shot and 85!!! I ain't shot an 85 in..... awhile! And when I play that bad, I can't wait to play again to try and redeem myself. So I played Saturday evening and shot 72...I got it figured out now! Wrong! I played Sunday evening and was 4 over on the front nine and on the 10th hole I made a double followed by bogeys on the next two holes, so I'm 8 over with 6 holes to play. I get to the par 3 13th hole and decide to play a high cut shot to a front right (stuck in a hole) location. I fire away and it looks like I know what I'm doing as the ball goes just as I planned to about 8 feet behind the hole, I make the putt and par out the next 5 holes to shoot a 79, not great but I can live with it ( if you play golf, a 79 is like 5 strokes better than an 80) This is such a humbling game and thank goodness I got it together on the back nine because now.....I got it figured out!!!!
Yesterday may have been the worst match-ups in the whole NFL history. There was not one single game that was worth watching. I ended up watching some stupid Pirates Island documentary and even it was more exciting! I have no idea what caused this but, it was just a horrible week for Pro football. Of course my Chargers lost to Da Bears and that didn't really help matters either, if anybody knows of a site that is about firing Norv Turner, let me know, I want to join!!!! Oh we'll, at least I can watch some good NBA games, right? What? Huh? You're kidding me?
What a great weekend for opening day of deer season with guns. Put away those Indian tools and pilgrim guns, it's time show off those high caliber rifles that kick so hard when you pull the trigger, snot flys out your nose. Wait....what? It's 80 degrees and the winds blowing 10 to 20 mph!!! It's OK though because as any great hunter, these conditions won't bother us! Because we're shooting something! We've been sitting in this tree stand swatting mosquitoes for 3 hours, something's going to die!!! Wait, I hear something moving between the wind gusts, this is it, this is the buck I've been waiting for!! I can even hear him better now, just a few more feet and he's mine! Oh no, it's an armadillo!!! Oh well, it's almost dark now and the way I've been swatting bugs ain't nothing gonna come out around me so.....DIE ARMADILLO!!!!!!!......BANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh well, I've rambled on as long as I could, that's all I got! Ya'll have a great week!!!!

What movie did the Oakland Raiders watch on the plane on the way to their ice bowl playoff game at Pittsburgh in January of 1976? Answer: Jaws. Winner: Dave Myers.
Joey gets two trivia questions unanswered including the prize winning main question. Always some controversy with some questions but as always, you have to read Joey's mind...I know that's very dangerous but the symptoms only last a few days, good luck this week.
Before I get into my weekly ramblings about sports, I have to tell ya'll about my MIA last week. I went over to Hattiesburg last Monday for business when I woke up Tuesday, I had a tooth ache, it was a tooth that I had a root canal on almost 40 years ago and it had to be re-done (is that even a word?) Anyway, I go to a root canal specialist and he x-rays the tooth and tells me, "You should just pull it!" After he tells me the reasons why, I agree and tell him, go ahead then, pull it. Well, he doesn't pull teeth, he ONLY does root canals! I'm seriously hurting, I can feel every hear beat through my tooth. Luckily, he has a dentist friend and he calls him and he can pull it now. NOW is the word I wanted to hear, so I drive over to the dentist and he gives me the numbing shot (that I would have paid $1,000 for if he had asked) and he pulls the tooth and gives me a prescription for pain medicine. Now I've had teeth pulled before, mostly wisdom teeth but, I never needed any pain medicine! WRONG! 3 hours later, the heart beat is back. Luckily CVS pharmacy is open late nights and they can fill my prescription, I begged her to flip me one while she was filling the order, but they don't do that. So Wednesday ain't no better and I'm in no shape (mentally) to drive anything! I woke up Thursday morning and didn't take anything and drove back home. Today is my first day to be back in my office since the tooth incident so that's why I haven't updated anything. I did do some score postings from home Friday night and I thank all of ya'll that sent me scores.
Last Monday night (pre tooth hurting) I had supper with former USM and Oakland Raiders punter Ray Guy in Hattiesburg and he told me a great story....He was playing in an All-Star game in the Super Dome and for fun, he hit the gondola during practice the day before the game, so he tells the referees that they need to move it up so he won't hit it. They look at him and tell him there's no way he can punt a ball that high. So Ray grabs a ball and hits it again. Well the team comes back the next day and Ray looks up and the gondola is raised all the way to the ceiling. Don't ever tell a country boy what he can't do!
Trinity wins big over Centreville Academy last week in a game that I thought would have been like the previous match-up. I heard that Simpson Academy had over 400 yards rushing last week against Brookhaven Academy and a 10th grader had 300 of them! Ought to be some smash mouth football this Friday night in Simpson! I have to take the speed and quick scoring attack of the Saints in this one.
Cathedral pounded West Oktibbeha in play-off action last week and now they will host , I believe they are a country school around Louisville and they are like 9-3 on the season. With 3 schools in that area, I'm wondering about the talent pool they have to choose from....I like the Greenies in this one, especially at home.
Basketball is under way for most schools and it's this time of year that The Board gets the busiest, so many games and we have lots of predictors, pill machines and Odds makers that keep it interesting for the readers. Basketball is the hardest to keep up with, Boys, Girls and JV makes for a lot of news. Thanks to ya'll that post your scores and keep it fun!
College football is what it is, some big names are gone, some highly rated teams didn't play up to par but still managed a win. So much for Boise State. If Oklahoma can win over Oklahoma State, we could very well see a re-match of LSU and Alabama. BUT, what if they did, and Alabama won? That's one win apiece, right? Should they play a third game to see who would win the best of three? NO!!! Who ever wins the BCS Championship game will be the champion...period! I still think LSU wins anyway, Alabama ain't got a kicker! Hard to believe that a school that big can't find a kid in the whole school that didn't kick in high school...I'd be looking if I was the head coach!
So Houston Nutt is a goner, Pete Boone is a goner, but that's not enough, who's the Chancellor? The President? The CEO? Fire'em all!!!! it's a disgrace to the State of Mississippi...they need to find some young blood that's fired up about winning!
I watched some of the USM game last week and they are fun to watch offensively, defense? another story. Houston will rip USM's defense up to shreds!
LSU travels to what used to be Ole Miss......expect to see the same effort that played La. Tech last week.
Miss. State travels to Arky....Sorry State Fans!!!!
USM travels to UAB this Thursday night...OK, I'll take the Buzzards!
If you missed the Saints game yesterday, you missed a good'un! Overtime and everything, But I did think that with over 6 minutes left in regulation play was too early to get into the prevent defense, it almost prevented them from winning!
My Bolts lost last Thursday night to the Raiders, geez, did I mention that I'm not a Norv Turner fan?
I'm running out of Hoff pictures, if you have any, just e-mail them to me...heck, I'll post just about anything!!!!
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll on The Board!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
10/31/11
Name the first NFL team to train out of state.
Answer: The Giants were the first team to host a training camp away from their home state. For many years, it was reported that the Cardinals were the first to do this, with their 1929 Coldwater. MI camp, however this fact is incorrect." Winner: Mark Davis.
Bonus Questions
Besides his impact on basketball, what is Dr. James Naismith credited with
developing?
First off I have to explain what happened to me last week and why there wasn't an update to this main page and it's a good one! I moved my son out of my house!!!!!! Yes, I have my house back! He's in Hattiesburg working a new job and working on his Master's Degree. We headed out early Monday morning and got him in his new apartment ( new for him anyways, far from brand new) and I spent a couple nights over there helping him get moved in and settled down. I'll be over there from time to time working my insurance business since I have a place to stay now and if I can find out how to get 4speed's phone number, I may even get in a few rounds of gold over there...they got them some nice courses over there too! The only one that I haven't played over there is the one called Canebroke, so I need to play that course! (hint hint)
ACCS wins their season finale over Columbia and a great win for the seniors, hopefully the Rebels can turn the corner next year. Congrats to the coaches and players.
Cathedral got back on the winning track and now must play host to a former MPSA team in Univ. Christian. These boys east of Jackson ain't gonna know what just slapped them up side the head!
Natchez High lost to Brandon ( I messed up a couple weeks ago and put the wrong team down...sorry!) But the Dogs travel to play Oak Grove this week with play-off stakes at the highest!
Trinity started the regular season with a loss and ended with a loss, last week at the hands of Brookhaven Academy. But it's play-off time now and the board is clean. Trinity will take on Wayne Academy while Centreville will play Lamar School. The winner's of these two will meet next. I'm thinking a re-match between TE and CA...but that's just to get a bid for the semi's.
Vidalia lost to Caldwell and will play their last game of the season against Buckeye.
Ole Miss has a chance to win another game, they're playing Kentucky. If they lose this game and I was Houston Nutt, I wouldn't even get on the bus back to Oxford!
Miss. State has a very tough opponent this week and they'll have to really focus as they host UT-Martin!!! I feel a Pudd'n Award coming in some shape or fashion!
I been pretty hard on USM this year, maybe it's helped? They travel to E. Carolina this week and I'm still predicting a loss for the Buzzards!
The NCAA National Championship game is this week as the Tigers from LSU travel to take on the Elephants of Alabama. I don't care about the stupid BCS or their polls, THIS is the game of the year! I really feel that LSU has the better offense and they both are pretty equal in defense. I believe that this game will be decided by special teams and turnovers. I have the Tigers winning this one 31-24.
After watching the Saints debacle yesterday, I was wondering how many people were thinking about how they were going to dress up their new bags (to wear over their heads) just in case this is how they will continue to play the rest of the year. The Saints were a 13.5 pt. favorite!!!! We may need some pudd'n here!
Hey Andrew!!!! (that's Andrew Ketchings for ya'll that don't know him, huge Cowboy fan...football, not westerns) How ya like'n ole Romeo now? hahahahaha (quote) pitiful he is!!, sorry 4speed!
Wanna see a real football team? watch my Bolts tonight, best team in the NFL, but the coach will screw it up in the long run.
The annual Fall 4 Ball was held this past weekend out at Beau Pre' C.C. here in Natchez and Jordan Farmer and Casey Ham won the 2 day event. Enough about them, let's get down to the good stuff....ME!!! I played with Dr. Craig Bradford, but if somebody has a heart attack, you still need to dial 911 (he's a dentist....watch the Hangover and you'll understand) After day one, we were tied for first in the first flight with a 73. We had winds from 20 to 25 mph and the greens were slicker than snot on a windshield, Owl poop had nothing on these greens! The winds died down....some! on day 2 and we carded a par 72, we didn't think we'd win anything as it seemed to be several sandbaggers (cheaters) in our flight. We get in the clubhouse and we tied for 2nd place! A nice little $250 gift certificate each for me and my partner plus a little players pool cash on the side! I wonder what my wife would like for Christmas from the Pro Shop? She didn't like the naked lady tees I bought her last year...oh well!
Special thanks to the mystery person that has been sending me the Picture of the Week, I can't reveal my sources because I did earlier and he got mad at me!
That's all for this week, ya'll be careful traveling and I'll catch ya'll on The Board!!!!!!!

Name the three teams that passed on Ted Hendricks before he signed with Oakland
as a free agent in 1975.

and Miami.
Winner: Joey Martin.
A furious eight-minute battle for the middleweight crown in 1985 marked the only

Answer: Hagler and Hearns.
Winner: Joey Martin.
It's been awhile since Joey got 3 of 5 trivia questions unanswered, I bet he's doing the Snoopy dance about now. We'll see how he fares this week!
ACCS battled tough for a quarter before bowing to Silliman, the Rebels travel to take on Brookhaven Academy this week. I remember a few years back when BA was loaded and AC came in and pulled an upset! Can history repeat itself?
So Cathedral puts a good ole whipping on the #2 team in the State, I wasn't surprised! Now the Greenies host Dexter this week and the Wave ain't stopped flowing yet!
Natchez High suffered a loss to very good team in Petal and now must get re-focused to travel to take on Brandon, another big team that the Dogs need to win to clinch that play-off spot for sure!
Trinity handles Oak Forest pretty well and now travels to Columbia to show them what all the hype is about...they'll get to see it firsthand!
Vidalia took a beating in the woodshed and they'll travel to take on Caldwell Parish this week. I haven't heard any bright spots for Vidalia through the grapevine, maybe there's some young talent moving up for next year?
LSU is now ranked by the BCS as #1 and they host Auburn this week, if they get by this week, they'll have an open date before they meet new BCS #2 Alabama. LSU generally plays really well when given a little extra time to prepare, this is going to be the game of the year!
Ole Miss lost to Alabama, anybody surprised? My suggestion is to fire the entire staff, the athletic director, the president of the school and anybody else with ANY ties to the football program. Ole Miss has Arkansas next, so chalk that one up as well.
Miss. State lost a close on to S. Carolina, might have saved Spurrier's job, if he don't leave on his own anyway. They'll get a rest this week before they travel to Kentucky, if they lose to Kentucky, it's going to get ugly in Starkville!
USM didn't lose last week but they have SMU this week and the Pony Express will be rolling!
OK, according to the new BCS polls (which to borrow a phrase from Morris, is a vast right wing conspiracy) has LSU at #1, Bama at #2, Oklahoma at #3 and Oklahoma State at #4, now with #1 & #2 to face in a few weeks and Oky and Oky St. playing at the end of the year. It setting up for some of these teams that don't really play anybody to have a very good BCS Bowl game. Which I believe could turn out to be a disastrous encounter with lopsided margins of victory. I could be wrong unless they match up these so-called elite teams with each other. It's kind of like "Dumbing Down" I want to see the best teams play and with it being late in the schedules now, a good team can lose a game and get thrown far enough down the polls that they don't have the time or chance to make it back up again (see Oregon, lost first game and now back in the hunt...kinda) This is what makes a play-off scenario realistic (wow, that's two big words in a row, may be a first for me) Is there really ever going to be a chance for this to happen or am I just wasting my time? Are there people involved with the BCS that make huge salaries that want to protect their jobs? There has to be something?
If you watched the Saints game yesterday and saw the re-play (a couple of times anyway) of the guy rolling over Sean Payton's leg and you didn't grab your own chin, you've never really been hit hard enough in the shin! I remember quite a few times when I was a kid riding my motorcycle through the woods and hitting something that threw me over the handlebars and my chin catching the crossbar. I don't care what they say about "Don't hold it" I held it and I think it helped! That's some bad pain, the kind where you piss out of your tear ducts in a 20 foot stream! Then to top it all off, the Saints lose to the Buck'nEars!!!! Not a good day for Sean!
I was all excited for Steven Ridley as I'd heard that Green-Ellis was probable or Sunday's game as well as Woodhead had a high ankle sprain and Steven would probably get the start and get 20 or so carries for the day. Green-Ellis played and so did Woodhead. Steven got a few carries but not what I expected, oh well, his time is coming. The bad thing is that I was explaining this scenario to his mother and father at Sunday school yesterday and I probably got them excited as well, what a bummer I was for them!
At the end of this month is the last 4 ball for the year out at Beau Pre' C.C., anybody can play, just grab a partner and call out there to sign up. The course is in the best shape that any course could be in right now and the cooler temps make it even more enjoyable. Click on the link to Beau Pre' on this page and you'll get all the info you'll need to call them and get in. Always a great tournament and you'll get a chance to meet me, what could be better?
Special thank to Charlie Mascagni for providing pictures. (see picture below)
That's all I have for this week, ya'll be careful traveling and I'll catch ya'll on The Board!!!!!!

Name the shortstop who refused to play in the baseball all-star game in 1979.
Answer: Garry Templeton. Winner: David Boydstun.Bonus Questions
What player surpassed Charles Barkley and Dennis Rodman to set the NBA single-season record for technical fouls?
Answer: Jermaine O'Neal. Winner: Joey Martin. The term sack is credited to what former NFL defensive lineman?
Answer: Deacon Jones. Winner: Eddie Brewer.Who holds the record for most sacks by a rookie?
Answer: Jevon Kearse. Winner: Dave Myers.Who was the first foreigner to win the Masters?
Answer: Gary Player. Winner: Jesse West.Just a few short weeks left in the regular season of high school football, and for some the play-off hopes are very doubtful. It's not always the players or coaches fault, sometimes it just boils down to lack of depth and just being in a down cycle. I hate it for the kids that practice so hard all year and have no reward at the end of it all. I wish there was some way that these type of teams could have something to push forward for, but I have no idea what it could be.
ACCS lost to Simpson and this wasn't any surprise, Simpson is very good! The Rebels have (in my opinion) a chance to win this week as they travel to Silliman. And with Brookhaven and Columbia up after that, they better give it their all this week.
Cathedral whooped up on Mt. Olive and I heard that wasn't a McNair or Duckworth in the contest...how long has that been? Are there any coming up in the near future? Anyway, the Greenies head to take on Bogue Chitto up at their place this week and look for the high poewed offense to keep on clicking in this one.
Natchez High won a very close game to Forest Hill but now their pinned up in a corner as they play host to Petal. Former South Natchez football player Steve Buckley is the head coach at Petal and I know he'll be gunning to win this one. The Dogs will have to play error free football in this one and they'll need more than 7 points also!
Trinity won easily over Prairie View and they have three straight games of tough opponents coming up next, first this week with Oak Forest...The saints travel to their place which is always ornery! They have some loud distractions (police sirens) and they'll try to take you out mentally as well. This will be a tough one for the Saints as they've been picnicking lately. It's time to get that nose back on the ole grindstone and work hard to get back to another State Championship and it starts this week!
Vidalia took a beating last Friday night at the hands of Jena and former Block and Huntington head coach Chad Harkins. Harkins wanted the Vidalia job and I'm just guessing here but, I think he was trying to send a message! The Vikings take on Marksville this week at home, maybe this is the week the Vikings turn the corner.
LSU had little trouble with Florida and they'll travel to take on Tennessee this week, the Tiger's shouldn't have any trouble here unless they go in thinking what I'm thinking.
Ole Miss didn't lose last week but they will this week! One word.....Alabama!!!!
Miss. State gets by UAB...geez, they host S. Carolina this week and I'm taking the Gamecocks....what's going on up there in Starkvegas?
USM didn't have to play Navy in the water, so they won easily. USM will not lose this week, another lock bet!
I had this argument with a friend of mine about Boise State.....he was saying that they could play in the SEC and still win a national championship. I did not agree, I told him that if Boise had to play the caliber of teams in the SEC almost every week, that they'd suffer loss of players from injuries simply because they couldn't just play 2 or 3 quarters and rest like they are doing a lot of now. BUT, I do believe that in a one game scenario, that Boise does have a chance to win a major bowl game. They are explosive and very entertaining to watch. With Boise's schedule and their current ranking, we may get to see them play an SEC team in a bowl game....maybe.
The New Orleans Saints pulled one out yesterday and I don't care what anybody says negative about Can Newton because this guy can play and he's only going to get better!
My Chargers pulled another one out yesterday, it's still early yet, Norv will find a way!
I'm not an Aaron Rogers fan, maybe it's because of the Brett Favre controversy, it's not his fault but for some reason I just don't like the guy. But I do know one thing about him, he can flat out play the QB position. And as much as I hate to admit it, he has all the tools of a great quarterback. Geez, I hated saying that!
I got invited to play The Bluffs in St. Francisville yesterday and I haven't played there in quite a few years. I had never seen the new clubhouse (magnificent it is) and they changed the front to side to the backside and visa versa. The course is in great shape and I had forgotten how huge their greens were. I had a great time and if you're looking to a golf outing for you and buddies, I give it a two thumbs up!
If you subscribe to the Clarion Ledger and saw that huge buck on the outdoors section of the paper, that beast came from just across the river from Natchez at Giles Island. They are a pay hunt facility and there are numerous big ole boys still over there. If you're interested, Google their name and I'm sure you'll find it pretty easily.
Many thanks for the scores that were texted to me last week, let's keep it going...also thanks to ya'll that put your scores directly on The Board!!!
I've run out of Hoff pictures for the caption below, but I'll take any ya'll send me!
That's a wrap for this week, I'll be around this week and on The Board, ya'll be careful traveling and hunting!

Name the player who had two onside kick returns for touchdowns in one college game.
Answer: UCLA's Brandon Breazell in 1989. Winner: John L. Sullivan.
Bonus Questions
Name the only college player with more than two field goals of more than 60 yards in one game.
Answer: Tony Franklin in 1976. Winner: Marty Stamper.Who is the last quarterback from the USFL to play in the NFL?
Answer: Doug Flutie. Winner: Adam Daigle.Who was the first running back to rush for more than 10,000 yards in a career?
Answer: Jim Brown. Winner: Joey Martin.Name the team that had the nickname "Invaders."
Answer: Oakland of the USFL. Winner: Eddie Brewer.Joey almost got swept but, he didn't so he's ahead in the game. This weeks questions look like he ain't trying real hard, so go ahead and get him!
7 weeks of high school football, man it's going fast and the play-off pictures are developing! We'll get more into that later, so for now we'll wrap up last weeks games and the things i got to say about them and what's coming up this Friday night......ACCS lost to Centreville and we knew that was going to happen but, there is a bright spot for the Rebels in a freshman running back named Lester Wells, I met Lester through my sons baseball teaching and he's a very polite and nice kid, and he's a heck of a pitcher as well! This kid can dunk a basketball and he's 14 years old! If the Rebels have a bright future and can block for this kid, they'll win a lot more games. ACCS travels to play Simpson this week and Simpson is everything they've been played up to be.
Cathedral beat on St. Al and there were no surprises here, St, Al is in a down year and Cathedral ain't! The Greenies have Mt. Olive this week and they always have a Ducksworth or McNair somewhere on that team and they always cause havoc.
Natchez High took on Terry last week and this was a huge win for their play-off picture, a close one it was was the Dogs came to play! They travel to take on Forest Hill this week and another important contest to get them one step closer.
Trinity had them a little cakewalk with Central Private and now waits for Prairie View this week as they want some ice cream with that cake and Prairie View is the ice cream!
Vidalia lost to Baker in a lopsided contest and now must face Jena, always a tough opponent. All I can guess about the Vikings are that they're re-building, they hardly ever stay down too long.
Texas A&M...welcome to the SEC....I'm sure a few Arkansas players told them that after the game.
LSU cruised by Kentucky and I was surprised by the Boo's that Jordan Jefferson received. Face it fans, he's going to be used in running situations.
Ole Miss won another game! That dominating Fresno State team that so many teams...oh never mind! I can't make this sound good.
Miss. State lost to Georgia, I'm thinking the Dogs have lost their luster.
USM eats Rice!
So for this week, LSU host Florida and although I'm thinking Florida will be back in the spotlight, it just may be next year or the next.
Ole Miss will win this week, no doubt about it!
Miss. State travels to UAB, they get to vent out some frustration this week.
USM is at Navy.....the Eagles may get drowned at their place.
How bout dem Saints? Looking pretty good ain't they? I didn't mean that like the Ain'ts either.
My Bolts are doing just what they do every year, win early and look pretty good...but Norv will screw it up, I promise!
I saw a picture of an early buck harvest that came from over at Giles Island, it scored a little over 180 and it was a brute. Let me hear about your deer stories.
The wife was out of town this weekend, so I played golf all weekend and I'm hear to tell you that there's a not a better golf course to play than Beau Pre' C.C. right here in Natchez, MS...The greens are really fast and true and the fairways are lush. Give me a call and we'll play a round out there and you won't regret it!!!!!
That's all for this week, ya'll be safe and I'll catch ya on The Board!!!!!

Bonus Questions
Name the Super Bowl coach who threw and interception and picked off a pass in the same game. Answer: Tony Dungy when he was with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Winner: Joey Martin.
In 2000, what golfer became the first man to finish second in three consecutive majors?
Answer: Ernie Els. Winner: Joey Martin. This quarterback threw nine interceptions in a game against Auburn.
Answer: John Reaves in 1969. Winner: Dave Myers.Wow! Only two correct answers on the trivia. Joey will be feeling pretty giddy when he sees this!
ACCS hosted Trinity this past Friday night and it's good to see these two teams match up again as being cross town schools, they need this rivalry back. Although it was pretty lopsided in this contest, the future for these two teams could see either team win in coming years. ACCS will host Centreville this week and coach Hurst won't ever try and embarrass any team, he's a great coach and I've seen him coach kids from the other team during Spring Football scrimmages.
Cathedral keeps rolling through opponents and they get to meet up with arch rival St. Al at home this week. St. Al ain't got much so the Greenwave will get some players some rest they need.
Natchez High took one to the chin last Friday against Meridian, but Meridian ain't no slouch! The Dogs will host Terry this week and should get back in the winners circle.
Trinity will host Central Private and they too will get to rest a lot of players in this contest.
Vidalia travels to take on Baker...I honestly have no idea, I hope the Vikings can pull this one out as they really need a win to get things turned around.
The LSU game was exciting, the West Virgina QB did a great job against a stingy defense. I was really surprised that LSU didn't blitz as much as I thought they should have. There were a lot of times that it looked like the WV QB had all day to throw the ball. But LSU kept pounding away and finally just wore them out. Anybody that says that they can't see a difference in the offensive game play from this year to last year must be living under a rock! I have no idea what the rankings are but, I bet LSU ain't no where near the bottom anymore! I'm thinking that the LSU and Alabama game will be better than the National Championship game...heck, this could be the National Championship game!
Poor Ole Miss, do us a favor and get rid of all of the coaching staff and just start over. It can't be any worse, Nutt did a great job the first two years with somebody else's players but he can't get anything done with his own...time for a change.
Miss. State almost lost to La. Tech!!!! Scary how the promise of this years team has made such a turn around. Maybe La. Tech was a wake up call for them and they'll turn it back around.
USM Won!!!!! Jeff's happy!
LSU host Kentucky......A restful week for the starters.
Ole Miss travels to Fresno State.....After this game, we'll see more Fire Nutt websites and Facebook pages.
Miss. State is on the road to Georgia and they need this win big time and I'm thinking they'll get this one.
USM host Rice.....It's not baseball season, so I'll take the Golden Buzzards in this one.
Yesterday morning I told my wife that the Texans were going to have a field day with the New Orleans Saints defensive secondary. They did but, New Orleans field day was just a little better.
San Diego won yesterday and it's still just week 3, give Norm some time, he'll find a way to implode.
The Cowboys and the Indians on Monday Night Football, always a great game. The Redskins have two great defensive ends and I'm predicting that Romo leaves the game....injured! Redskins in a lopsided win!
Getting to watch a lot of football was hard this weekend as I was playing in the Beau Pre' Cup Matches. I teamed up with Chris Kelley in the 18 hole four ball match Saturday morning and we halved with Bill Lambert and Mike Cook. In the evening match, I was teamed with Chris again and we played the same team in the 18 hole alternating shot format and we won 1 up. Our team (Carnoustie) was leading by a single point going into the 18 hole individual matches on Sunday. I played Al Guido and he won the first hole ( I went into the hazard ) I won the second hole and then we tied them all until I won the 9th hole to go one up on the front side. The back side got interesting, Al won 11, 12 & 13, I won 14 and 15, he won 16, then I won 17 and we tied the last hole to halve the match. Team Carnoustie won the event by a single point. It was a great weekend for golf as the temperatures were mild and the gold course is in great shape.
Many, many thanks to those of ya'll that posted scores last Friday night, I'll be back on stand by for anybody that wants to send me their scores this Friday night, just text me your teams name and their opponent along with a score as the game is played and I'll post them on The Board......my cell number is 601-597-3624...thanks!
That's all I have for this week, ya'll be safe traveling and I'll catch ya'll on The Board!!!!

Who holds the record for the longest run by a quarterback in a college football game?
Answer: Arizona State quarterback Mark Malone ran 98 yards against Utah State in 1979. Winner: Joey Martin.Bonus Questions
Who hit a home run to give the American League a 4-2 win over the National League in the first major league All-Star game is played at Comiskey Park in 1933. Answer: Babe Ruth. Winner: Bryant Chaffin.
This Tennessee quarterback handed the ball off to the same running back 16 straight times in the fourth quarter in a game against Ole Miss. Name them. Answer: Jeff Francis and William Howard in 1986. Winner: Joey Martin.
No Main Trivia question winner this week, of course there were several answers and everybody's was the same but, it was not the one that Joey was looking for and we all know the rules to Joey's Trivia, you have to have his answer. Sometimes you have to really concentrate and put yourself in Joey's World! I know, that's a scary place but sometimes you have to do what you have to do!
ACCS lost to Bowling Green, I don't know what to say here, I really thought they would win this game. The Rebels host Trinity this week and coach King will get to rest a lot of his players. This could be a game where a lot of 2nd stringers and younger players get some action and that's good for all of them.
Cathedral wins over Stringer, is that an understatement? I was at home with my laptop posting scores with the Boise State game on but listening to the Cathedral game on the radio. Walt, you made me feel like I was there! Great announcing by Walt Brown and Andy Guida. I couldn't get the game to come up on my laptop since they had "Friday Nights Under The Lights" there, but I tried several times! And when the second half got under way, most teams were finishing, so I could really listen more without posting as many scores (I think the game finished around 10:30pm?) But what an ending, I can't wait to see the re-play...get me a copy!!!! I asked a Cathedral guy that I know that has a space on top of the hill if many people had left the game (Cathedral was down 3 scores late in the game) and he said at least 50 people walked past him. I bet these fair weather fans felt like dogs when they heard the news! What a win for the Green Wave. I saw Jeff Upton at church Sunday morning and he told me that when Caleb got blindsided on the punt play, that it broke one of his molars and he was spitting out chunks of it the rest of the night! I wish ya'll knew Caleb, despite his dad, he's a really great kid and competitor!!! (lol on Jeff aka Onion Head) Cathedral travels to Salem this week, I just hope they can get back focused after the wild game last week....I think they can and will!
I told everybody that Natchez High would win! But things get a little tougher now as they make the bus ride to take on Meridian. The dogs have an uphill battle on their hands in this contest and it'll take their best effort on both sides of the ball to win this one, but if they do...watch out, it'll be on like a chicken bone!!!!
The match-up between Trinity and River Oaks wasn't what everyone thought. River Oaks is without their #1 QB and it showed. An easy win for TEDS and an easier week this one as they play the Rebels of ACCS.
Vidalia lost to Ferriday and I think everybody saw this one coming. The Vikings play at Bolton this week and they very much need a game they can be competitive in. I believe even a close loss is a win for them to help build their confidence for the rest of the season.
I watched the LSU-Miss. State game last week and very impressed with Jarrett Lee, he seemed very poised and even had a few passes dropped that should have been caught. But we all know by now that Les Miles ain't one to air it out and score lots of points. He's a defensive guy and if he's in the game come the 4th quarter, he feels like he's going to beat you. It's worked well for him so far! The Tigers travel to take on West Virginia and I believe that make this an easy win. The Tigers defensive line will be too much and eventually WV will submit and tap out!
Ole Miss lost to Vandy, yeah Vandy!! There already may be rumblings about a new coach but, after they lose to Georgia this week, it will get louder! And can you blame anybody?
Miss. State ain't that bad, they were just playing a much better ball team. They'll win their share and take it out on LAH Tech this week! (you have to pronounce it the way I say it)
USM won!!!!!!!! Took it to SE Louisiana they did!!!! Uh oh, they play Virginia this week, oh well, enjoy the week!
The annual Beau Pre' C.C. Cup Matches are this weekend, it's the best tournament of the year and the only way to play in it is to either get through your score in the Club Championship or through two of the qualifiers. Let me tell you, it's much easier getting in the tourney through the Club Championship! I made it in the last qualifier this year and that ain't no fun! But it's over and I'm in and looking forward to the event. There are two captains and they take turns choosing players. There is Team Carnoustie and Team St. Andrews. Day one is an 18 hole Four Ball followed by an 18 hole alternate shot. Sunday is 18 holes of individual play. Friday night is a roast of the players (women not allowed, thank goodness, they'd have a heart attack!) by the captains with a good ole Filet Mignon served on the side. It's all about bragging rights, no big prizes but it test your nerves like no other tournament!
I will not be posting scores this Friday night (see above) hopefully somebody will post scores on The Board, please?
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya on The Board!!!!!!!!

What Super Bowl champion coach was fired as head coach by Cornell?
Answer: George Seifert. Winner: Jesse West.Bonus Questions
Who recorded the highest finish ever by a freshman in the Heisman Trophy vote?
Answer: Adrian Petterson. Winner: Dave Myers. What is called "The Biggest Little Game in America"?
Answer: Massachusetts vs. Amherst. Winner: Marty Stamper. This college quarterback led his team to a national football title and completed 70 percent of his passes but was not picked in the NFL Draft. But he did play in the NBA. Name him.
Answer: Charlie Ward. Winner: Charlie Mascagni.Who was the first West Virginia football player taken in the NFL Draft?
Answer: Joe Stydahar in the 1st round to the Chicago Bears. Winner: Alvin Giroir.Joey gets skunked yet again, poor fellow....I can see him holding his head with both hands right now. It's so bad, he hasn't even sent me this weeks trivia yet!
ACCS lost its homecoming bid last Friday night to the Rebels of Central Private, see I told you the Rebels would win! But our Rebels will have to climb out of the hole they've dug and rebound this week as they travel to Bowling Green. If the Rebels can play without the mistakes they've been having, they stand a good chance to win this one.
Cathedral played last Saturday down on the Gulf Coast against Resurrection and they came out on top, I had no idea who or what Resurrection was and I still don't! The Greenies will host Stringer this week and although I don't know what Stringer has, I do know that they've been tough in the the past and with that in mind....I'll take Cathedral in a landslide!
Natchez High is 3-0 so far in the season as they toppled Warren Central last week. The Bulldogs will win this week also, it won't even be a contest as Open High School has never won a game!
Trinity lambasted Silliman last week and will travel to take on River Oaks this week. Still too much talent for River Oaks to try and cover. I'll take Trinity in a massacre!
Vidalia lost to Delhi Charter last week and now have to face Ferriday, a long time rival that you could always throw away the record books on. But I'll take Ferriday in this one.
Ole Miss had a bye week or they played S. Illinois...same thing. But they play the upset maker (for them anyway) in Vanderbilt. I think the Rebels pull this one out!
LSU whooped up on Northwestern State...uh yea? The Tigers travel to Miss. State and this could be the game of the week! I'm taking the Tigers though in a very close game.
Miss. State gave it away to Auburn and with the Tigers coming to town, they'll have to hit on all cylinders to win this one.
USM lost to Marshall, and now must face that terror of the gridiron in SE Louisiana!!!! USM better win this one or they may be coach hunting!
The Saints made too many mistakes and mostly defensive. Every year I hear the announcers talk about how good the Saints defensive coordinator is and I just ain't buying into it! Even the year the Saints won the Super Bowl, they weren't that good on defense, now they did have a fantastic take away ratio as they knew how to strip a ball away from an opponent but other than that, they weren't that good on "D" It's looking the same as the past few years yet again and if the Saints want to contend for another ring, they better start practicing the ole ball stripping drills!
As most of you know, I am an avid San Diego Chargers fan and have been since I was a young teenager. I was watching Sports Reporters or something along those lines yesterday morning when they were talking about contenders to win the Super Bowl this year. One reporter was talking about a few teams and then he said, "And San Diego, well, they still have Norv Turner" which pretty much summed up anything and everything about the Chargers. So now ya'll see that I'm not the ONLY person that can see how he screws up the Bolts! San Diego won yesterday over the Vikings but it's still early in the season.
Maybe Peyton Manning is the whole team, they lost to Houston 34-7. Now I know Houston has a good team and can put up some points but....37?
How many bowls of Wheaties did Rex Grossman eat? This will be the best ever game in his career, mark it down! Of course I was pulling for the Redskins (go way back to Eli Manning post by me)
If you could stay awake last night, the Jets beat the Cowboys and anytime the Cowboys lose, it's a good day (sorry Andrew) Great stuff last night with the Ryan family. In case you missed it, great story about Rex Ryan and Rob Ryan playing high school baseball, Rob batted 3rd and got on base. Rex came up to bat next and had lost a contact, he called time out and went to first base and borrowed his twin bothers contact and then hit a homerun!
We've got two games tonight, it's an NFL double feature! First at 6pm is New England vs. Miami and then at 9:15pm is Oakland and Denver. I haven't heard if Steven Ridley is ready to play or not. He had a high ankle sprain but, that shouldn't stop him if they'll put him in the game!
That's all I got for this week, ya'll be careful traveling, I almost hit a deer last week and it was just starting to turn dark!!!!!

George Blanda's first play for the Chicago Bears was a touchdown pass in an exhibition contest. Who did he throw it to?
Answer: Well, the score was 0-0 with a few minutes to go in the third quarter, and Halas comes over to me and says, "O.K., kid, go in and get 'em!" As I ran out on the field, I noticed George McAfee standing over by the sidelines, just in bounds, and he gave me a little hand motion to throw him a pass. Pittsburgh didn't have the slightest idea that George hadn't left the field, "and I threw him a 40-yard touchdown. How's that for an introduction to pro football? Winner: Chad Fisher.Bonus Questions
Name the quarterback and wide receiver involved in North Carolina's longest pass play.
Answer: T.J. Yates to Jheranie Boyd 97 yards against LSU in 2010. Winner: Eddie Brewer.Who was the first Minnesota football player to receive a game ball from head coach Bud Grant?
Answer: Jim Marshall in 1979 after sacking quarterback Joe Ferguson and even playing offensive tackle for the Vikings in their final series. Winner: Dave Myers.Who was the first choice to play coach Norman Dale in Hoosiers?
Answer: Jack Nicholson, but he turned them down. Winner: Jesse West.Who did Walter Payton shake hands with after right after breaking Jim Brown's all time rushing record?
Answer: New Orleans coach Bum Phillips. Winner: Adam Daigle.Well, Well.... Joey gets swept for the first time this season and it's only been about 3 or 4 weeks...that's pretty weak there ole Joey, you're going to have to toughen them up some!
ACCS got their first win over now, so the jitters are gone and coach McKeivier has these young men buying into his system. There is no way the Rebels lose this week, put your house note on it!
Cathedral caught the country boys napping last week and upended a bigger school. They travel to take on Resurrection this week and I ain't never heard of no Resurrection school, sounds like a Louisiana school to me. I'm still taking the Greenies!!!!
Natchez High defeated Ferriday last week and now look to extend their winning streak by hosting Warren Central in a sure nuff battle of big schools. Natchez is getting better each week and I think the Bulldogs pull this out.
Trinity has had two of their toughest games of the year in week 1 & 2 and got a little rest last week, they'll get more rest this week also as they Silliman. Saints big time.
Vidalia took one to the chin by Block last week and now they host Delhi Charter, this ain't gonna be an easy one for the Vikings but, they will play harder for coach Gary Paul this week, we'll see improvements but I ain't thinking it'll be enough in this contest.
I spent this past weekend in Mobile, AL and it rained 98% of the time we were there but, I did watch a lot of football! So here's my thoughts and opinions of the games I observed.
Ole Miss and BYU - They both looked horrible, if they played each other 10 times this year, somehow I believe they'd both have losing records!
Georgia and Boise State - Ya'll Georgia fans need to be planning the going away party for coach Wrong, he ain't getting'er done. I still want to see Boise play a good team!
Miss. State showed a lot of weaponry, but I still want to see what they really got and we won't see that until Sept. 15th.
The TCU and Baylor game was my favorite game of the week, I like seeing a lot of points and this one was never dull.
Auburn and Utah State, what can I say, throw these two in with Ole Miss and BYU and we'll see 4 teams with losing records!
Why would Notre Dame play South Florida? Well the number 16 team in the nation got it handed to them so at least we won't have to listen to the "experts" talk about them any more this year!
And finally, LSU and Oregon in the Cowboy Classic.... LSU's offensive game plan didn't surprise me, I figured it would be conservative with Lee at the helm. No use in putting him in any bad situation this early, it's about building his confidence and that they did! Actually I though he did pretty darn good, he hit a few receivers early in the contest that were dropped and when he did connect, it was pretty much spot on. This was a huge game to build that confidence and I think LSU did just that. A good win and now we don't have to hear about Oregon the rest of the year either!
I watched the Miami and Maryland game last night and now I'm really perplexed....Gary Crowton (former LSU offensive coordinator) is now the OC for Maryland, he threw the ball all over the place last night and had a very good game plan against a much larger team (size) Now I'm wondering if he really did get to call all of the shots at LSU. I never saw Crowton and Co. do anything like this at LSU, he was on the sidelines all night last night and it didn't look like he had to answer to anybody. So now you see why I'm perplexed ( I found this word in my Thesaurus) And by the way, what's another word for Thesaurus?
So I don't get in trouble by Jeff Upton....USM beat La. Tech......hip, hip, hooray!
Ole Miss host S. Illinois....I really have no idea who will win, but if Ole miss is favored, I'd take the points.
Miss. State at Auburn.....State Baby!!!!! Auburns done.
LSU host Northwestern St...... Northwestern Who?....LSU by all they want.
USM at Marshall....Sorry Jeff...Marshall in an upset.
The Quote of the Week is for AAFANDAMAN...thought you'd like that one.
There ya have it guys and galls, my thoughts and predictions. Of course I wouldn't put much stock in what I think either plus you know what they say about opinions?
Ya'll have a great week and I'll be hanging around my computer this Friday night, so don't depend on somebody else sending me your scores, I need them and want them, so text me at 601-597-3624 and I'll post them on "The Board" as soon as you get them to me!!!! Be careful out there!

Who was Tony Dungy's best man at his wedding?
Answer: Donnie Shell. Winner: Charlie Mascagni.Bonus Questions
Two SEC players returned fumbles for 100 yards. Name them. Answer:
Dextar Stanphill of Sewanee against Florida in 1936 and Ken Kavanaugh of LSU against Rice in 1937. Winner: Joey Martin.Who was the first Hispanic to play quarterback in an NFL game in the United States?
Answer: Tom Flores. Winner: Eddie Brewer. In 1979, No. 6 Florida St. required two second-half touchdown passes by a backup quarterback and an eight-yard run by Mike Whiting with 1:38 to play to get past Cincinnati (2-6) 26-21. Name the quarterback. Answer: Wally Woodham. Winner: Dave Myers.
Joey still didn't get swept, he managed to get two unanswered questions on the trivia. We'll see how he does this week.
Adams Christian took one to the chin last Friday night against Hillcrest. The Rebels have a tough hill to climb to compete in a tough Class AA division this year. They are gaining experience and hopefully can start to gain enough confidence to get some W's. With Riverdale coming in this week, the Rebels will have to dominate early.
Cathedral had an off week and they'll need it as they play host to Loyd Star. Someone told me that there's not a lot to do around Loyd Star so in their spare time they like to turn bulldozers over! This will be a big test for the Greenies and hopefully they can put up some numbers before these ole country boys know what hit him.
Natchez High travels to take on Ferriday, this will be ferriday's first game of the season and the Natchez High Bulldogs have knocked the dust off of'em and should play better and less mistake football. Early games are always filled with mistakes, Natchez High should take advantage of this.
Trinity has played two games this year and they couldn't have played any two that were tougher. They host Bowling Green and if the Saints can put up a lot of numbers early, they may get to rest some players that have to need it.
Vidalia finally get to regular season, they got stepped on pretty good by Ferriday in the Jamboree but they host Block this week and if the Viking's want to regain their traditions, this is a good one to get it going with.
College football will kick off this week and everybody is ready to see what all is going to take place. Georgia has Boise State, LSU has Oregon and Ole Miss has BYU. These are match-ups that will set the tone for rankings throughout the year. If the SEC can win these games, look what it will do to the other conferences. I tell you what it will do, it will make the Sports Authorities (hahaha) jump to other conferences that the SEC hasn't played and they'll promote the dog out of them.
OK, so LSU lost Jefferson, for how long? who knows. My personal opinion is that the best QB at LSU is still Mettenberger. He will be the starter as soon as J. Lee throws about two pick 6's. Plus he will have two more years after this one. There is no way that Mett can be any worse than Jefferson...impossible.
Last week I was thinking we only had one more week of pro football pre-season, I got week three confused with week 4. So NOW as Hank Williams puts it, I can get ready for some football. A lot of people don't care for professional football but I love it. There's no excuses, there's only bad game plans and sorry coaches (aka Norv Turner) Where else can you watch a football game that can be won on any given day and maintain the caliber of play that the pro's do? Send one of those 150 lb. 5 star college players across the middle of an NFL secondary and see what happens, he may catch the ball....once!
Beau Pre' C.C. Member/Guest golf tournament was a lot of fun this past weekend. There were only 28 teams but the competition was still great. Howard Jones and his Lee won the event by blistering a toughly setup course by firing a second day 64 (8 under). That is an unreal score the way this course is playing right now. I threw my wedge back towards the cart after chipping around the green and when we got back to the cart, it took four of us to find it! That's some thick rough! As for me, I played with Jerry Beauchamp (pronounced BeeChum) and we shot 74-73 to finish in 3rd.
I really appreciate the scores that were texted to me last Friday night, I'm getting to post scores from many schools around Mississippi and Louisiana. Don't assume that someone else is sending me scores, just text me yours as they happen. What was really bad is that I'm not getting any calls from ACCS, Cathedral, Natchez High, Trinity and Vidalia and these teams are the reason this site started in the first place. Send me your scores, It's not Rocket Surgery!!!! (I swear I heard somebody say this one time and they were serious!)
Ya'll have a great week and please be careful traveling!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who was the first New Orleans Saints defender to hit Walter Payton on the play when he ran past Jim Brown to increase his career rushing total to 12,317 yards, five more than Brown gained in his nine seasons with Cleveland to become the top runner in the history of pro football?

Answer: Greg Pruitt of Oklahoma. Winner: Joey Martin.Who was in the first all-US women's Wimbledon final?
Answer: Billie Jean King and Chris Evert in 1973. King beat Evert 6-0, 7-5. Winner: Joey Martin.Hard to believe that after the first week back, Joey gets three unanswered questions. Were they really that hard? Do we really need Joey's ego inflated? Surely ya'll can do better than that!!!!!
Time to talk about some high school football and we'll start in alphabetical order as I've always tried to do in the many years I've been doing this so here goes...ACCS hosting Cathedral, we all know the score and we knew Cathedral was loaded with offensive weapons so there really wasn't much of a surprise. ACCS's new head coach Hunter McKeivier had his hands full and wasn't even the head coach long enough to get his new players into his concept of football. I think school had even almost started before he even got named head coach. He'll be alright, he just needs some time. Cathedral's coach Ron Rushing has taken right off from where they ended last year in a powerful offense that can come at you through the air or straight at you on the ground. They'll be playing the favorite all year.
Natchez High traveled to take on Wilkerson County and put on a ground attack, yeah I said ground attack, unlike past years with Javon Washington passing all over the place, the new QB Derrian Johnson is the starter and although he can throw the ball, he runs it pretty darn good. It's the first game and I'm sure the passing game will get better.
Trinity traveled to Jefferson County and I listened on the radio, it was an 8-8 ballgame for most of the contest. The announcers were talking about the cramps that the Trinity players were having a lot! Now there's one thing I want to remind people out there, Jefferson County is a Class 3A school, that would probably be where Jackson Prep and Jackson Academy would play if they were in the MHSAA. So one thing Trinity had to overcome were shear numbers. When the majority of your team plays both ways, it gets hard in the second half. Although Trinity lost this game, they proved themselves in the eyes of those that really know football.
Next week's match-ups.............
ACCS at Hillcrest - Hillcrest took an abusive beating by Manchester last week and the rebels have a chance to get their record back to even and I think they will.
Cathedral vs. Open - Cathedral will not lose this week, It's a lock, bet the farm!
Natchez High plays host to Jefferson County - That's 3A vs. 6A, If Jefferson County wins this one, they win State. Ain't gonna happen!
Trinity travels to Centreville Academy - Probably the game of the year. The winner of this game may play for a State Championship. I thinks TEDS has too many weapons but I don't know if all their players are healthy or not either. I do know that Centreville is loaded and returns a lot of key players from last years squad. I hate over use words but, Slobberknocker keeps popping in my head!
Vidalia doesn't play their first game until September, but I'm guessing they'll probably be playing a Jamboree this Saturday night somewhere, if you know, please post it on The Board.
I've heard a lot of talk about cramps since the Trinity game, some say it's from being out of shape while others say that it's just from the heat. I've always known that David King is one that gets his players in shape, I don't think he would stop! So I don't know the answer. But when I played (many moons ago) Coach Bobby Marks ran us to death! We always went to Rodney Bottom for camp, we ran a mile in the morning, had practice, we ran another mile after practice, we got a little rest before the next practice. We ate lunch and got a good rest period and then we practiced again, we then ran another mile and when everybody got their breath back, we ran sprints. I was a receiver, so I ran more than anybody! And when our first games came around, we still had a couple players get cramps! But the other teams had a bunch. Were we in better shape? Probably? heck, I don't know but, when you don't get to rest as much as the other guys, it makes sense that you stand the chance of getting cramps more than the guy that can rest on the sidelines and drink all the water or power drinks that they can hold!
So what is the state of LSU football, will Jefferson play or possibly serve time? Will the prosecutor in the case be an avid LSU fan? and if so, would he just seek 6 months in jail? Enough to keep him from playing this year. Would the LSU fans be upset with him if he did? Probably not! Mettenberger or however you spell that name nees some time under center, he's the best QB they've had since Bert Jones, or at least that's what I've been hearing. They say he's poised in the pocket and has a cannon for an arm. But that's all hearsay, I say give him a chance, can it really be any worse?
Mississippi State is going to pull some upsets this year, you can count on it, I don't know how much longer they can keep Mullens on the staff, especially when he has a great year, so you State fans better enjoy it while you can!
Ole Miss brings just about everybody back on offense, if they can't get anything done this year, goodbye Mr. Nutt. Ole Miss fans won't put up with another season like last.
USM should be very good this year, they return a strong offense with a good QB. I don't know what the USM faithful will do if they mess this one up. It's CUSA!!!!
Beau Pre' C.C. is holding their Member/Guest Tournament this weekend, although member/member can play as well. Beau Pre' is in probably the best shape I've ever played it and it will destroy you if you can't keep it in the short grass. The greens are so soft and receptive that you can back up a Top Rock! (that's Top Flight for you non golfers, it's a really hard ball)
I qualified for the Beau Pre' Cup Matches that will be played at the end of September but it wasn't without some heat! I sitting at 1 over on the day going into hole #14, I hit my drive into the left rough (see comments about rough above) so I punch out and leave myself a nice little nine iron into the green. The pins up front and my shot goes left of the green pin high, I pitch it on the green and it runs by 10 feet! So I make a six, no big deal, I'm still just 3 over. I get to hole #17 and again I have just a 9 iron in, I line up and shank it dead right into the creek and out of bounds! I drop one and hit again, it ends up short of the green. The pin is on the left front and all I have to do is putt it onto the green and get it close and I'll make a 6....Noooo, I hit it 10 feet past the flag and miss it coming back for a 7! Now I'm 6 over and wondering if I just blew it! I pared the next hole and found out that I had made it easily by 3 strokes but I was worried I'd thrown it away. The Beau Pre' Cup is by far the best tournament at the club. It's a Ryder Cup style match play tournament that pits the best golfers at the club against each other. The captains choose players for their team and then we have a big steak supper and the captains roast each others players during the ceremony. The first day is an 18 hole 4 ball in the morning followed by an 18 hole alternate shot in the evening. Sunday is18 holes of individual play. The winners get bragging rights for the year and every time they wear their shirts for the rest of the year, they can call them winners shirts.
I'm already sick of pre-season football and we have one more week to go. Although the starters are playing more, there's still nothing on the line for the fans. I'm ready for it to mean something, I'm ready to see what the crop will bring to the game and by early sightings, it looks to be exciting! I'm worried about my Chargers though, they still have the same bum for a coach and even if they do start out strong, he'll find a way to screw it all up! Did I mention I don't like Norv?
Almost everybody has a phone that takes pictures nowadays, send me some pictures from your game or things happening at the game, cheerleaders, mascots, the coach blowing off steam, the PA guy going nuts, anything!!! I need pictures!
The ole whitetails have been sited eating on the sides of the roads at night, so when ya'll travel out of town to root on your team, be careful and watchful coming home, them buggers will sneak up on you!
Ya'll be careful and have a great week and I'll catch ya on The Board!!!!!!!!!
8/15/11
Summer is over and I'm back to my ho-hum ramblings of sports in the Miss-Lou and other stuff that I feel like I want to report on as well. It's been a great summer and I'll start by re-capping some of the highlights for sports and for my personal events over the last few months....after all, it's my website and you can choose to read it or not, but I hope you enjoy it anyway.
I can't really start without first telling the story of my experience in the Budweiser 4 Ball Tournament at Panola Woods Country Club in Ferriday, Louisiana. My partner was a guy named Mark Patterson and most of ya'll know him by his Bulletin Board name of Tiger Fan. I personally met Mark for the first time at a wedding reception, the next time I saw him was the first day of the tournament. As much as I've played golf over the years and played Panola quite a few times, it's strange that I had never seen him before but, anyway we paired up and started play and he informed me that he hit the ball pretty far....he wasn't lying!!!! He can flat out murder a golf ball and he hits all of his shots a mile high. He hadn't played in awhile as he had taken a new job north of Jackson, MS so he was a little rusty but any time on day one that I messed up, he covered me up with a par. We shot one over and were pleased with our effort. Day two I played pretty solidly and he helped me again when we needed it mostly. We came in second place which is not bad considering that the winners will not be in our flight next year, I think they shot 5 or 6 under for the tourney. Before I end this story I have to tell you that Mark doesn't hit a draw (right to left ball flight) or even a hook (a bigger right to left ball flight) He hits a big Ducker ( the biggest right to left ball flight) If you've ever played Panola, on hole number 7, it's a 90 degree dogleg to the right with trees blocking an attempt to cut the corner to go straight at the green, so most people hit or punch a little fade (left to right ball flight) to set up the next shot...I said "most people" Mark aim right of the green, goes over the trees (which is very, very hard to do) duck hooks it so hard that it almost ends up in number 5 fairway (which from the tee box is almost a straight shot) By far the biggest hook I've ever seen in my life, and I've been playing since I was 8 years old! But he was fun to play with and maybe next year he'll have more time to practice before we try and win that tournament or at least our flight.....enjoyed it Mark!
High School football is under way this Friday night after most of the teams played in some Jamborees...... I hate Jamborees! Everybody tries to hide things they are going to do in the upcoming season so you end up with straight up football. One thing that I enjoy the most is trick plays and I played under Bobby Marks and he had a whole playbook of trick plays, not only were they fun to execute but they worked! Well, most of the time. Natchez High travels to Wilkinson County for their opener and Trinity goes to Fayette to take on MHSAA Jefferson County. But the big game of the week is right here in Natchez as ACCS will host Cathedral in their first ever match-up. I think this is great, not only for the players but the fans. Both schools being about equal in enrollment and they all know each other (Natchez ain't that big for you out-of-towners reading this) I think it's a win-win no matter the outcome of the game.
Vidalia as well as all of the LHSAA schools will not start regular season games this week.
There's one game that I'm really looking forward to and that's Trinity and Centreville, both teams are loaded and I'm predicting that the MAIS AA Champion will be one of these two. Trinity lost some great players off of last years team but, they've got some new faces and they have some talent. Centreville is pretty much returning the whole squad. It's going to be a slobber knocker!!!
I was talking to Jimmy Allgood the other day about ACCS soccer, I don't know squat about soccer (except that there's a person in front of a big net that doesn't want you kick it in there) Jimmy told me that they've already won 2 girls games this year, which is twice as many as last year! It's a brand new sport over there and they're getting better, time on the field helps gain experience.
Watching the PGA Championship yesterday I figured with the play of Jason Dufner (although the name ended up what he did) that he couldn't blow a 4 shot lead with 4 holes to play! Boy was I wrong! Dufner was sinking lengthy par and birdie putts early in the round and his play looked unshaken by playing in one of the biggest tournaments of the year, but majors have a way of unraveling even the best of players and Dufner ain't one of the best. After going to the 3 hole play-off and on the first of the three, it was clear that Dufner was out of it and the title went to Keegan Bradley that you could tell was the fan favorite. His first major to play in and the 25 yr. old wins it. One thing is for sure though, Keegan will play in at least the next 20 Majors with his 5 year exemption.
Joey's news is updated on his link and his weekly trivia is posted above.....I know, I know, some of ya'll haven't gotten your prizes from last year but, they are going out this week to everyone that won last year. Something different this time though, it'll be a surprise!!!!
I want to thank Joey Martin, he has been with me since Day One providing his sporting news from his writings in the Concordia Sentinel, his weekly Trivia and his daily babble on the Bulletin Board. He brings a lot to this website and and I've enjoyed everything he does....I think I'll buy him some platform shoes for all of his efforts.
Rumor Mill
What I print in the Rumor Mill is just that.....Some may be true, some may not, remember, they're rumors until the truth comes out.
1) Johnny Lee Hoffpauir is the new recreational director for Vidalia's new sports complex.....Ground breaking was last week and it's rained every day since.
2) Charlie Mascagni had gastric bypass surgery and has gone from 280 lbs. to 320lbs.
3) Mark Patterson aka TigerFan is Mexican, he has legally changed his name to Pedro.
4) Trinity enrolls Marquez Dupree, the son of former football greatness Marcus Dupree. Marquez is a running back also, but better than his dad.
5) After many shoulder surgeries, Craig Jackson now has a beautiful golf swing.
6) I heard that 4speed won a golf tournament at Hattiesburg C.C. and shed his clothes and dove into the pond on hole #18.... and I also heard there was a huge fish kill the next day.
7) tr73 and Otis have been seen practicing some kind of performance for half time shows at North Louisiana schools on a pay for fee service...also heard they didn't have any takers so far.
8) Heard Gill Morris got a new personality....I know that's a rumor!!!!!!
9) Heiliger is seeking employment as the new director for the Salvation Army in Natchez. (Didn't they leave Natchez?)
10) Joey Martin is scheduled for height reduction surgery.
If you have some reporting you would like to include on MissLouSports.Com, just e-mail me your reports and I'll be glad to include them, with or without your name. We can always use stuff outside of the local area and I welcome anything that would contribute to make this site more enjoyable to read.
I NEED PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll on The Board!!!!!!!!!
What is the only team name retired by the NFL? Answer: The Oilers, After the organization moved from Houston to Tennessee the league put the Oilers name to bed permanently. Winner: Jesse Ward.

Not only did all of Joey's Trivia get answered correctly, it was fast! After looking at this weeks trivia, we may set a record! Joey either isn't trying real hard or he's getting ready to blister everybody!
I caught game one of Cathedral and Nanny Why YA (that's how it sounds) and there was some hitting going on! Nanny hit just about everything that was chuncked at them! The Greenies almost came back in the last 2 innings and at least made the score respectable. Cathedral took game 2 in a pitchers duel 17-15. Game 3 is tonight out at Chester Willis Field here in Natchez.
Trinity travels to Winona for game 1 of the best of 3 today and game 2 and 3 if needed will be at Huntington Field on Friday.
I went over to Brookhaven Academy this past Saturday for a Pro Work-Out day put on by the St. Louis Cardinals. There were only 10 or 12 kids participating as this was an invitation only work-out. I saw some great talent but the most impressive part of the event was a young dude from Hazlehurst High School that ran (on a few separate watches) a 6.20 60 yd. dash. For those of ya'll that don't understand what that means or how fast that is, let me explain. Our very own Natchez native Nook Logan was the fastest man is Major League baseball when he played, his time in the 60 may very well still be the fastest time ever ran in MLB. Nook ran a 6.22. So this young man could get even faster! I also got to see former Brookhaven Academy stand-out and now Co-Lin baseball player Colby Byrd put on a hitting exhibition during the event as well. I was told that Colby hits 4 Grand Slams for Co-Lin this past year....we'll be hearing about him real soon again!
With the River rising, I'm not sure what the plans are for summer sports in Concordia parish, hopefully Natchez will welcome them and they can continue to play if necessary....but I'm wishing for everything to hold so the inconvenience of all the moving and panicking will stop.
Advance Sports has been busy lately and with school quickly coming to the end, we're hoping that the kids will come out and work hard to improve their abilities for summer league and tournament ball. We've had a great turn-out of girls coming in and working on their softball skills, especially the pitchers....they have to practice year round. So if you're riding around and have never seen the facility, we invite you to stop by and take a look around.
That's all for this week, ya'll be careful and I'll catch ya on the flip side!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bonus Question
What professional football player did the Cleveland Indians baseball team try to sign in 1959? Answer: Sam Huff who played the majority of his NFL time with the NY Giants. . He signed with the Cleveland Indians and went to Class A Reading (Pa.), spending most of his time warming up pitchers in the bullpen. Winner: Joey Martin.
Wow! I don't know where Joey got the main trivia question but it stumped everybody, I can't even recall anybody even sending me a guess. It must have been some insider information that only Joey knew or one that couldn't be looked up on Wikipedia!
I caught game 1 of Trinity baseball taking on Riverfield and it was ugly early! Riverfield went through 1/3 of the starters on the field very quickly. Of course in the play-offs you have to play at least 5 innings...thank goodness for that or the score could have gotten into the 30's! I've been out of town since last Thursday but I heard they won the series and play Heidelberg Academy next, good luck Saints....wait a minute, they don't need luck, they are loaded and they can only beat themselves at this point!
I just spent a few days down in Destin, Fl with some friends of ours that live there on the bay. The water and weather was perfect for the whole trip! We even took a little boat ride around the bay on Saturday and the wife may have gotten a little too much sun. Of course ya'll that know me know how well I tan, so the collar I'm wearing this morning fells like course sandpaper on my neck!!!!
Steven Ridley....He can't play college football, especially the SEC and no way he can play professional football!!!! 3rd round, 9th pick...a nice check to follow! I believe that if they move him to fullback, he could play for 12 to 15 years. He has a State Championship ring, a BCS National Championship ring, so what's to stop him from having a Super Bowl ring? They will be a great article one day with him and his 3 rings in the picture!
I'm lost on most of the other local sporting news, I haven't even read a single paper since I've been back so hopefully I'll have more to write about next week.
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll later!!!!!
4/18/11
Well Joey got one out of the trivia but, it did take two weeks for everybody to try and get them! For some reason he added more questions this week, we'll see how ya'll do!
It's been two weeks and I've got a lot to report one, some you may like, others you might could care less....but that ain't gonna stop me from writing about it!
Two Friday's ago I played in the Natchez Chamber of Commerce Golf Scramble out at Duncan Rock...I mean Park. My partners were Dr. Jeff Anderson, Casey Ham and Tom Mathews. We bought our usual mulligans but they had a twist and were selling 5 foot sections of string, you could use each string per player twice at 5' or once at 10'. Let me tell you that these things change the whole game plus we had Tom Mathews (played on the Senior Tour) hitting off the ladies tees because he's 66 yrs. old and he can still outdrive me from the regular tees! We shot a 45.....and that's on 18 holes. Back to the string, if you hit a shot on the green, the string is a continuance of your shot, so if you hit within 5 feet, that's just like making it in the hole. We also won by 7 or 8 shots. It was a lot of fun and we got a very nice trophy apiece and a dozen Pro V1's.
The next day I went and played at Middle Fork C.C. located outside Meadville, MS...it's a nine hole course with two sets of tee's for the back nine and they do make a difference. The benefit was the Lion's Club of Franklin County and I played with Eric Smith, Paul Herring and a guy they called Burger. We won with a 15 under score and if that sounds too high for a 4 man scramble, go play the course, all of the greens are turtle backed and extremely small. We had a great time...of course it's always fun when you win!
I played in the Bob Foley Benefit golf tournament this past Saturday out at The Rock (Duncan Park) and played with Doug Brown, Louis Brown (Doug's dad) and Cloyce Hinton in another 4 man scramble, we shot 14 under and were tied with 2 other teams with the same score, after a scorecard play-off (which I never fair well in) we came in third! But most if not everybody gave their prize winnings to Bob and his family. I did receive one donation of $100 that was given by one person from the MissLouSports.Com family and I gave it to him that morning and he said thanks very much. For those of ya'll that don't know the situation, Bob has terminal cancer, no job, no insurance and a wife and three young kids. If you would like to make a donation, make the check out to The Bob Foley Fund and send it to me at 260 Sgt. Prentiss Dr. - Natchez, MS 39120....he really needs our help and any amount will be grateful.
ACCS had their Senior night and last ballgame for the 2010/2011 season as they fell short of the play-offs. They lose 2 seniors and we should expect big things out of them next year.
All of the other teams are still in the hunt and play-off time is here! There should be some great match-ups coming down and I hope to catch as many as I can.
Great article about Patrick Smith in the Natchez Democrat this past weekend, go online if you missed it and take a read. And I want to add a story that's not in the article....We were playing for State one year up at Pillow (I think) We had won the first game here at home and if we won the first game, it was over and we were the champs. Well Patrick was riding up with his dad Pat (Me and Pat went to school together and Patrick loves Christopher) So Pat was explaining to Patrick about only having to win one game, so later on Pat looks over at Patrick and he's praying! Pat asked him what he was praying for? Patrick told him he was praying we lost the first game so he could see two games! I wish he would have prayed that we won the third game!!!
Joey's News is updated from last week.
Thanks to Smurfdaddy for the Picture of the Week, that's a nice one and should make plenty of filets!!
That's all I got for this week, ya'll be careful driving the highways and byways and best of luck in your games!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bonus Questions
Joey still manages to sneak one question in that nobody answers correctly, he's a little man with a big ego and ya'll made his week!
Area baseball is grinding down to the regular season finale's for most teams, it's this time that games mean so much more than normal as it can mean making the play-offs or getting ready for Prom! Here in the Miss-Lou, we have a few teams that look to extend their playing time and continue the quest for an elusive RING!
ACCS plays Central Private in a three game series this week and the Rebels need to capitalize in this contest or they could be sitting on the ole bubble. Cathedral should make the play-offs since taking out rival St. Al. Natchez High should be in like flint (that's an oldie huh?) after whooping Terry, one more over Terry and they could be district champs! Trinity is writing their own book, I'm wondering who can beat them is Class A? Vidalia has struggled but they are learning and seem to be playing better each outing, maybe they can turn out some big wins soon and make the play-offs.
All that is everything sacred in this world will come to a monumental unfolding this week!!!! It's time for..........wait for it..........THE MASTERS!!!!!!! Did you feel the chill bumps racing across your body as you read those words? The Azaleas' are in full bloom, the grass is green, the skies are blue, the birds are chirping and an occasional 18 wheeler drives by in the distance, Yes!!! It's the Masters, the granddaddy of golfdom for those that know anything about the sport. To win this event is the pinnacle of every golfers career. Phil Mickelson is coming in hot off a win last week at Houston, numerous upcoming young stars are ready to take their place among golf's greatest, even Tiger will be there, mostly in spirit since I've played better than him recently! The wife is leaving town from Tuesday through Sunday which means... no interruptions!!!! It's me, a recliner, 12 liters of Diet Coke, some ice, a tall glass, a big screen high definition TV and The Masters for 4 glorious days!!!! Somebody pinch me, I have to be dreaming!!! OK, I'm a little excited but, no other Major golf tournament is wanted more than this one, I do like to watch them all but THE MASTERS is only one that every player wants the most and Augusta National chews them up and spits them out. Very tough for someone to win that's never played there before and your game better be spot on. Oh my gosh, I've still got 3 days to wait! Oh well, I guess I'll just watch Caddy Shack every night until Thursday.
Some of ya'll read the piece on Bob Foley in the Natchez Democrat and for those that didn't. Bob has cancer and is battling! Not being able to work plus medical expense, well, you get the picture. They are having a golf tournament for him April 16th at Duncan Park G.C., he has two young daughters and a 1 year old baby boy. I've played many a round with Bob through the years and he has one of the most fluid swings I've ever seen, reminds me of Freddie Couples. We even played together in tournaments back in the day and he's really a fun and lovable guy. I hope if you're a golfer, you'll make plans to attend. It's a 4 man scramble, you can bring your own team or sign up to play and you'll be assigned to a team. You can register by calling Duncan Park G.C. at 601-442-5955. Also if you cannot play but would like to help out with a contribution, make checks payable to Bob or Jennifer Foley and mail them to me at Miss-Lou Sports - 1 Hummingbird Lane - Natchez, MS 39120. They really need your help and anything you send will help them tremendously!!!!!
That's all I have for this week, ya'll have fun and I'll catch ya on The Board!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who was the defensive coordinator for Arkansas with
the Hogs upset Oklahoma 31-6 in the 1978 Orange Bowl?
Answer: Monte Kiffin. Winner: John Weaver.

Well ya'll almost pulled off the sweep on the trivia but Joey still managed to keep one questions unanswered. Maybe this week ya'll can pull off the sweep!
Who would have had Butler and Virginia Commonwealth in their Final Four bracket? I'm guessing NOBODY!!!!! And one of them will be the finals! Weird year for college basketball but I'm thinking the Butler coach is fixing to be a millionaire!! At least we have one SEC team still in the hunt in Kentucky, they'll take on UConn for their chance at making the big dance. So Kentucky loses all those big names from last year and is still winning? Anybody else looking for the fire? He's been caught before is all I'm saying.
Caught the Cathedral and Tylertown game last week and as I said before, this Greenwave team is young and they are going to make some noise in the years to come. They're not too shabby this year and could shake things up with a little polish. The more games the better for this squad!
Javon Washington pitched a no-hitter last week against Jim Hill and the Bulldogs have some young guns that have performed good for them this year.
I'm hoping to get out and catch some more games this week, I was busy last week and just couldn't find the time to get out much since a very important event was coming up......
This past weekend was the annual Beau Pre' C.C. Pilgrimage Four Ball. I played with the course superintendent Dee Barron and our Saturday play was horrible plus we did not brother-in-law at all! When one of us got in trouble, the other played worse on that hole (if that's possible) We carded 2 double bogeys and only one par on the back nine, we did have 3 birdies though and ended up shooting a 79, which is really bad for a four ball. We figured we'd get a lot of good natured ribbing.....and we did, I probably only heard the word "Sandbaggers" a few hundred times. We figured there was no way we could play any worse so our hopes were riding high coming into Sundays play as we were one of the leaders in the "Dew Busters" flight. We teed off one number one and my second shot flew out of bounds but that was Ok as my partner's ball was just off the fringe of the green in two. We decided to putt it from there since there's no way he could three putt from there...I was right, he 4 putted from there. So we started out with a double on the first hole!!!! We ended up making some birdies and a few bogeys and were sitting at 2 over going into the last hole, we both put our third shots into the bunker in front of the green and ended up with a bogey that put us one shot out of first place. But the highlight of the tournament was the finish of the Championship flight as three teams were all tied and they teed off on the par four 15th hole. After all pars, they proceeded to the par 3 16th where Natchez's own Tom Matthews sank a 30 footer to extend the match with another group that made birdie, down to two teams. On the par 4 17th, Matthews sticks one about three feet from the hole and it's an up hiller which he drains and wins the tournament with his partner Dan Bland. The tournament had a full field and the course was in great shape and good food was provided everyday.
Joey's News is updated today from last week on his link above.
That's all I have for this week, ya'll be careful and I'll catch ya later!!!!!!!!!!!
3/21/11
The reason I haven't posted anything for the last couple of weeks are that one week was Spring Break and the next was an open enrollment for my business that had me out of the house at 6am on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. But hopefully everything is back to normal, if anything I do is normal?
Joey stumped ya'll on 2 trivia questions and you had three weeks to answer them! Maybe ya'll can do better this time.
I gotten to see some baseball...some! I went to watch the ACCS vs. WCCA game out at Papa New field and this game was a snoozer. WCCA got a couple runs in the first inning and when AC came up to bat, it must have lasted for 45 minutes! There were 2 homers and a hard shot off the fence that just needed a few more inches to clear. I didn't hang around long after that, I don't enjoy beat downs like that, I just get to feeling to sorry for the other team. I caught a Natchez High game and they aren't that bad, they lack a few fundamentals but play hard to make up for it for the most part. Saw A little of a Cathedral game and they got some young guys that are going to make a difference over the next few seasons. All in all, the Miss-Lou has some teams that will make some noise in the play-offs.
Advance Sports is going crazy! There are kids coming from age 6 to 18 right now for both baseball and softball. The turf has helped so much being able to practice fielding and throwing. I invite ya'll to come by and take a look at the place, my son has done a good job with the place and it's steadily growing.
Beau Pre' C.C. is hosting its annual Pilgrimage 4 Ball this weekend and as always, it's one of their biggest events. Grab a partner and call the club to get in the tournament. The two day event always has good food and great prizes.
Speaking of golf, The Masters is just around the corner and I've been hearing people say that Tiger is a favorite....I don't believe that, his game is not complete right now and Augusta National will tear him a new one if it ain't all there!
I only got to see the Bones Jones and Shogun fight last Saturday night, I missed all of the others but, that was OK as none of the others could have been anywhere as good as this one! Jones dismantled Shogun totally, I'm not sure if Shogun really got a lick in! Jones is unorthodox and shots come in from so many different angles that it's hard to defend. I'm hearing talk about a Super Match between Jones and Anderson Silva...anybody hear about that? I'll take John "Bones" Jones if the weight is anything close at weigh in.
Finally, the much anticipated brawl which I aptly named "The Licking on the Lake" did not go as everyone thought. Only a meeting that led to more talk about LSU's dynasty in all sports (Mark P.) and some wisdom's of a wit (Charlie)
That's all for this week, ya'll be careful and maybe I'll see ya'll at the ball field!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2/28/11
Last week was not very much fun to me, I was holed up at the house trying to get rid of a nasty cough and sinus congestion. I finally got out Friday and boy was I stir crazy! I was ready for some baseball, so I drove over to Ferriday to watch the Trinity JV at 4:30pm and the Varsity at 6:30pm. (For those of ya'll that don't know, Trinity is using Huntington's field this year for their home games) When I got there, nobody was in sight and there were some mounds of dirt around the infield, but not enough that it couldn't be raked up right quick to begin play. Well 4:30pm came and still nobody was around so I called my son and he said that they probably aren't playing a JV game. So I drove over to Panola Woods and hung out there til 6:30pm. I drove back over to the old Huntington Field and still nobody was there. I called my son back and he said that they were playing at Amite School Center. Wasted evening! But it was still better than sitting at the house!
My Saturday was spent at Advance Sports installing new turf to the complex, there's a 60' x 70' area that is now laid down for in-fielding practice, speed and agility drills and some good ole wooffle ball games! (for some reason, my automatic spell check doesn't like the word wooffle?) But ya'll know what I mean. A second batting cage is in the works also, just need help getting it put up, not enough tall step ladders. But I did get to see a little baseball Saturday as Natchez High played host to Provine and later that evening the Cathedral JV played each other. I had heard that the Cathedral Varsity played Friday evening against WCCA and took them out in a double-header in 4 innings each game. I hope that wasn't played in Natchez after all the driving I did!
Probably the one thing that saved my life during the sickness was that the WCG Match Play Tournament started on Wednesday and I had something to watch on TV during the day. For those of ya'll that haven't been sick in awhile, let me tell you something, daytime TV is horrible!!!!! For two days I flipped through the channels trying to find ANYTHING to watch! I also want to start a petition that you can only show the same commercial once per day. I have Progressive Insurance and now I'm thinking I'm going to switch because I'm sick of seeing the same commercials over and over again! And while I'm on this subject, what's with all the feminine hygiene commercials during the day? Shouldn't they be using that money for women's magazines? I don't want to even think about that! Ya;ll may think I'm crazy but just wait until you're stuck at home during the week!
Congratulations to MRA boys and Brookhaven girls on their Overall Basketball Titles. I don't care how you do it, as long as you get it done. Hard work and great coaching almost always prevails and ya'll are to be congratulated for the work you put in to accomplish your goal.
BTW, Luke Donald won the WCG Match Play championship and it was his first time at the winner's podium.
Last weekend (the one before I got sick) we had the annual Redneck Adventures Squirrel hunt and there were over 220 in attendance with over 70 participating on Saturday's hunt. They harvested over 190 squirrels, 10 raccoons and one rabbit. Mr. Q.L. Fontenot, Kent Allgood and Red Owens cleaned 95% of them. Ain't no telling what Mr. Q.L. is going to cook up with the majority he took back home to New Iberia, LA but I wish I was there when he finishes cooking! Chef Bingo Starr and Big Red Owens cooked up eleven gallons of Gumbo, two huge trays of rice and by 9pm, it was all gone. Red told me that when the coonies come back for 3rds and 4ths, it must be good! That Friday morning, we took 14 special needs children on a special squirrel hunt, half went to Glen Petersons place out Liberty Road and they harvested around 25 squirrels and the other half went to Second Union Hunting Club with Butch Johnson and they brought back around 40 squirrels. Friday night we had an auction and raffles and one young man from South Louisiana was buying the hats at a chance for a rifle, we only sold 12 hats and I think he bought 9 of them and gave each special needs child the hat. When the drawdown started, another guy that had bought a hat, paid for each child to re-buy back into the drawdown (Once each) One of our favorite special little buddies Chandler Warren ended up winning the rifle and let me tell you he was some kind of happy! The event went off without a hitch and everybody had a great time!
I'll be at a ball park somewhere this week, I really need to scratch this baseball itch and the only way that's going to happen is to see some hardball action LIVE!!!!
Ya'll have a great week and maybe I'll see ya around the ole diamond!!!!!!!!!!

Name the running back from Jasper Alabama who gained 5,380 yards on 525 carries and scored 66 TDs during his three-year career at Walker High. His senior season he averaged 206.3 yards per game. Answer: Linnie Patrick. Winner: Dave Myers.
Who was the first Bradley sophomore to score 1,000 career points. Answer: Mitchell Anderson. Winner: John L. Sullivan.
A clean sweep!!!!!!!!!! Poor Joey, his little feelings (no pun intended) must be really sensitive right now. Ya'll might want to miss a couple this week on purpose.
Since it was my birthday last Friday, I didn't read many post over the weekend and I doubt I'll read them all but, there is one little post that I want to discuss, it was the couple of post on the Central Private and Brookhaven Academy boys basketball game. So I have an opinion (and that's all it is) so here goes........In my years of watching Dale Watts coach basketball (and it's been a bunch of them) he has not always had the best talent, mostly he does but some years he doesn't. What he does have every year though is his ability to coach up a team! I haven't seen BA or CP play this year but, with the reading I've seen about BA, I draw the conclusion that this years team is not one of his powerhouse squads. So what does a great coach do? He coaches them to win. There are no shot clocks, so he takes advantage of that, that's coaching! He won the game and his team advances...PERIOD!!!! Now then, on the other hand, if I was attending a game and a team started the stall offense, I would leave the gym, I hate watching it and if my kid was on the court, I'd go outside and find something better to do, it grates my nerves to watch a game like that, it's no fun but....I do understand what the coach is doing and if that is what it takes to get to the win and advance further into the play-offs, the that's what he has to do. For a coach, it's all about W's & L's and you don't find many coaches that lose their job because they're winning too many games. Dale Watts did what he had to do because he knew he couldn't run the floor with Central Private, heck I haven't even see any of them play and I know that! So he did what he had to do to win and for that, you have to admire the coach.
I have a little inside track into our local high school baseball and the Miss-Lou is going to be fun to watch this year! Lots of talent here and it's going to be fun to watch! For you MAIS folks, Trinity is loaded! 4 quality pitchers in Class A will spell trouble for a lot of teams this year. Don't be surprised to see them knock off some of the bigger schools also! Natchez Cathedral is young but talented and have 3 or 4 good pitchers and some heavy bats, they should make some noise in MHSAA Class A this year. Those are the two teams that I've seen so far and they're working hard to get better.
If you missed the AT&T Pebble Beach Celebrity Golf Tournament this weekend, you missed a good one! D.A. Points won the tournament and also won the Celebrity side also playing along side Bill Murray. Bill was continually talking to D.A. when he had the lead and I told my wife, "He's keeping his mind off what's going on so he won't shatter his nerves" Later on the commentators said the same thing and my wife looked at my like I was a genius (she doesn't ever do that) So D.A. won his first ever tournament and I believe he has Bill Murray to thank for it!
Brett Favre has asked to be traded from the Vikings to another team as he wants one more year to try and win another Super Bowl, OK insert your index finger into the side of your mouth and pull, I'm reeling you in!!!!
Ya'll have a great week and be careful traveling for you people that are still playing basketball, best of luck to your teams and I hope ya'll all win a Gold Ball!!!!!
2/7/11
Who were the pallbearers at Jackie
Robinson's funeral? Answer: Boston Celtic Bill Russell,
Joe Black, Don Newcombe, Jim Gillian, Pee Wee Reece and Ralph Branca. Winner:
Joey Martin.
Wow! Joey sure put it to ya'll this past week, only two trivia questions answered...and with it being Super Bowl week at that! The closest someone got to the main trivia question was someone that guessed Scott Hunter, but as you can see, that wasn't correct. I figured Gill would have known that?
Super Bowl Sunday...At first I was thinking Green Bay had a slam dunk (that was for you basketball people) but the Steelers never gave up and at one point I was thinking they may win this thing! But the turnovers were too much for Pitt in a game of such magnitude and it was too much to overcome. Congrats to the Pack! I thought it was interesting that one of the commentators was talking to Aaron Rodgers and brought up Brett Favre. Poor Aaron just can't get away from him but, he does have an MVP trophy and Brett don't!
I'm not a really big basketball fan and it's pretty obvious since I've only attended one game this year, but I was going to watch the games out at ACCS as I wanted to see for myself what all this talk about CPS boys basketball was about. i even had DJ on high alert to call me several times during the day to remind me. Well ole mother nature changed my plans and everybody else's too. So now there aren't any games at ACCS and I'll miss seeing the CPS team play this year. Maybe somebody could drop me off a game film? Are there any games at Brookhaven Academy this year? They usually host something every year, let me know. I can make that drive.
Baseball practices have started for just about everybody now and baseball games are where you'll find me....I watch games from little league on up and enjoy them all. I petitioned the MAIS to skip basketball season next year and just go straight into baseball. Wouldn't that be fun? Strangely though, I never played baseball growing up and never even watched it until my son started playing and then I got into coaching his teams and once I kinda figured it out, that's when I started loving it! The coaching was the most fun part for me, especially after he got older and you could play off the bases and balking pitchers were called. Yeah, I miss it but I still get my kicks by watching my son coach his Advance Sports teams because as my son, I can tell him stuff without getting thrown out of the game! And I've never made a bad call in my life after the play is over!
I'm in a hurry this morning as I have to get back to the house and catch the final play of the Waste Management Golf Tournament, all the freezing mornings in Phoenix have pushed the play into Monday, so I got to catch the rest of it this morning. Great play and a lot of birdies in this tourney and I'm thinking 20 under may be the number that wins it. On a side not, my son got to play that TPC course when he was playing minor league ball out there and he got to play it for free about 3 or 4 times....and my son ain't no golfer!!! He just doesn't understand how lucky he was to get on that course. Of course he did say that he hit some really nice houses on that course!
That's all I got for now, I'm in a hurry....ya'll be careful and I'll catch ya'll on The Board...ya'll know I'm waiting on those basketball scores!!!!

1,000 assists and 500 rebounds? Answer:
Ed Cota. Winner: Joey Martin.
Who was Florida's first All-American in school history?
Answer: Dale Van Sickel. Winner:
Dave Myers.
I think I get a little madder every year I watch the Pro Bowl, they're yucking it up and playing terrible football. I know these guys get a paid vacation for a doing a good job through the year and are rewarded but, either play the game or play in shorts and play flag football! I don't enjoy it and I end up watching something else because it's so boring. I think they need a fix...something!
Pretty wild week I just went through on The Board.....I hate having to deal with problems, especially when they're so childish. Nobody pays anything to be able to post on The Board, all I ask is a few simple things....Keep the language clean, don't call out kid's names in a bad way and keep the pictures clean. A simple request. Also, I always get people wanting me to remove post on The Board from time to time and I'll say it again here....Removing a post causes more discussion than just leaving it there and letting it roll off. This is from past experience...trust me on this one!
Tiger Woods has won (I believe) the last 4 times he played at Torrey Pines....the streak stopped at 4! Bubba Watson put on a show on Sunday and even capped it off with a birdie on the last hole. But equally impressive was Phil Mickelson on the 18th hole had his caddie hold the flagstick while he was chipping from way off the green. I'm thinking this guy has got to be kidding me! He dang near flew it in the hole! But it didn't go in and I was reminded why I play with the regular folks.
I was reading The Board the other day and I saw a post that I thought was unfair, seems there is a competition between DJ's from Prep and PCS and 4speed decided that the PCS guy was the best....now 4speed is from PCS so I understand his dilemma, after all, he probably has to see this guy more often. So should we as a group start a Poll on The Board and let those that have heard both decide? I think so, I'll get that started today.
Deer season has drawn to a close and now we'll get to see some of those die hard hunters back on the ole golf course again. In a small town such as ours, it's a big difference in numbers and always makes the game more interesting. And for the guys that have played through hunting season, their game is a little sharper than the hunters and it's always great to take advantage of that situation until they get back good again. You gotta get what ya can while ya can!!!!!
That's all for this week, ya'll be safe and remember that although deer season is over, they're still out and about at night time!!!!

Jack Youngblood. Winner: Eddie Brewer.
During the 1980 NBA Finals, what rookie played all five positions in leading the
Lakers to the title? Answer:
Magic Johnson. Winner: Alan Brown.
Well it looked like Joey was going to get swept in last weeks trivia BUT DJ MESSED IT UP!!!!!! and of course Joey chimed in as well so, even Joey didn't get credit for the answer, so I just decided that nobody won! And as for Andrew, he send in 5 answers and expects me to give him credit for the Main question? Yeah right? One answer per week, you send me multiples and I get to choose...hahaha, sorry! Maybe this week?
OK, I have to admit, I posted the MAIS re-classification on The Board this morning and of course I was joking but, it sounds like some people would like that idea. Private schools rely on tuition to keep the doors open, they are not funded by the State. Most if not all could care less where the money comes from as long as it's coming in! I'll say this again, recruiting IS NOT illegal. I can grab almost any athlete and go to almost any school and hand them the money and the kid is in like Flint! It's not illegal!!!! Now I do understand that some people have had junior at school since 1st grade and junior has practiced hard his whole life and he was a star in junior high and he moves up to the varsity level and a transfer comes in and takes juniors spot. Why? because he's better than junior and the coach wants to put the best players on the floor and win. I feel sorry for junior myself but, the coach has to win or he'll be looking for another job....so there lies the dilemma. Can anybody out there give me the name of a school that turned down a legitimate athlete and their tuition?
So we have the Packers and Steelers in the Super Bowl, I don't have a horse in this race but I guess I'll pull for the Pack since they haven't won one in awhile. I was really wanting the Jets to be in there since they have Rex Ryan and you never know what he'll say next, I loved it!!!!
The Board has been buzzing lately about Central Private and they're sudden rise to fame in boys basketball. As everyone knows, the former CP coach is back and he brought luggage, and it ain't the crappy kind either, it's Gucci!!!! This guy has been in the Baton Rouge area awhile and the dude knows his basketball and has been teaching the game to anyone that wanted to learn. Is it a surprise that some of these kids wanted to follow him and keep learning? Heck no! Advantage Central Private. He probably could have gone just about anywhere he wanted to and I'm guessing that most of the CP faithful are glad he's there.
I was in Mobile over the weekend and drove back yesterday evening and listened to the Bears/Pack game on Sirius Satellite radio ( I just got a new truck) for the first time and it was funny! The announcer not only gives the play by play but, he describes what's going on, "Rogers puts his hand to his mouth and blows" stuff like that. Then the second game came on and we were still about 30 minutes from getting home and the announcer had a lisp! I think a couple of times while he was talking I felt spit hit me! Give it a listen some times, you'll enjoy it.
That's all I got for this week, ya'll travel safely and I'll catch ya'll later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joey's on a roll!!!! Knocking'em out and taking names....does he need to make the trivia easier for ya'll? I could tell him to take it a little easier on ya'll if you want?
I just had to make a new page for the Archives 2011, the time sure does slip by in a hurry! For those of ya'll that are new to this site, I started this site back in 2001 after I had previously started a sports web site for the ACCS Baseball team the year before and I was asked if I could do this for all the area teams. So I called it Miss-Lou Sports, after all, that's what we call the Natchez/Vidalia area. Never did I realize that the area site would turn to include all of Mississippi and Louisiana. Of course I was covering Natchez, Vidalia and Ferriday at the time and I still just cover mostly that now on the main page but, somewhere along the line, Miss-Lou Sports became more popular with the then MPSA sports....I don't know why? We still get some occasional reports from the public schools, I wish we had more! But it takes someone to do that on a regular basis. So here it is 10 years later and really not much has changed, schools still ban us, people still argue, I get e-mails and phone calls and the site is still ticking away! For what it's worth, it's a daily soap opera for sports and sometimes it's just a release while you're at work. Will 10 more years see any difference? I doubt it, some fans leave after their kids graduate and others are just discovering the site and putting in their 2 cents...after all, that's what it's about!!!!!!
Ya'll missed a couple of great parties for the National Championship game...more on the game later, first I went to John L's for the pre-game festivities, John L was cooking up chittlins and possum, ummm, ummm. Also he had fun and games as we all got to participate in the greased pig chase! John L's wife (also his cousin) won the event when she cornered the hog up against her 1974 Ford Pinto, she said she dented her car but, we couldn't tell. After I left there I had to fuel up my truck (could have swore I had a full tank?) and I headed over to Joey's for the game. Not as much excitement as John L's but, Joey had plenty of football snacks to munch on during the game...we had short ribs, cocktails wieners in the blankets, midget muffins and all we could drink from those little Dixie cups. Thanks to both of ya'll for including me in your game day festivities.
Now on to the game, (as best as I could see on a 13" TV) It seemed to me that if Auburn played Oregon 10 times, Auburn would win 7 of those by 20 points or more, the other 3 may be like the one we saw. But the way it played out was exciting for the fans and was a lot better than a blowout. Oregon will have some good players returning next year...Auburn will lose Cam Newton and the rest is history!
And so the storybook games are played in the NFL and so far we have two #6 teams playing for their respective division championships, The Packers of Green Bay against the Bears of Chi-Town and the Jets of New York against the Steelers of Pittsburgh. Frankly, I could care less who wins the Super Bowl but, I do like ti hear me some Rex Ryan talk some smack!!! So for this reason and this reason only, I'm pulling for the Jets! And if they lose, I won't lose any sleep. Really though, I'm hoping John L and Joey try a repeat on their festivities and I can get me one more crack at that greased pig and also bring me a bigger drink glass to Joey's!!!!
That's all I got for this week, ya'll be careful out there and keep it between the ditches!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, I know it's been awhile since I last posted but, in my defense, I've been working, this insurance business has had me busy and I only wish I would have started this ten years ago! Anyway, enough business talk, it's time for my wrap up so far, of the college football bowl games!!!!! (crowd roar in the background)
USM vs. Louisville - C'mon USM fans, what did you expect? Fedora, Bowers....really can't tell much of a difference....I mean, REALLY!!!!
Then the real games started coming on...THE SEC!!!!! All in one day we had 3 games on tap and when the dust cleared, we were 0 for freaking 3!!! Georgia lost to Central Florida? Really? I'm preparing a letter to the SEC committee to ban Georgia from playing any post season games for 3 years.
But the next day we have 3 more SEC games and Alabama, Florida and Mississippi State all won and now we sit at 3-3.
Now to the Arkansas game....I honestly believe I could have coached a better offensive scheme that Petrino did! Of course several passes were dropped by the Hog receivers and that didn't help matters much. Oh well, we're back on the losing side at 3 and 4.
Up next is LSU and Texas A&M....Who was the new quarterback for LSU? I haven't seen him play ALL YEAR!!!! The Tiggers were hot on this day and I was really worried bout them Aggies, and after the first couple of their drives, I was thinking I was correct in my thinking! But the mad hatter had a great game plan and stuck to it and won easily. So now we even it back up at 4 and 4.
Kentucky??? Really?, they got a bowl game? I still ain't figured that one out! But guess what? They lost! No surprise here so now we're 4 for 5 with one game left to play but.......
It's the National Championship baby!!!! and we have our own Auburn Tigers ready to butt heads with some Ducks from Oregon. Can a Duck beat a Tiger? or even a War Eagle for that matter? I believe the key here is to let Cam Newton play Cam Newton ball. If they let him loose, it won't even be a good game. If the coach tries some crazy junk that is different from the scheme he's been playing all year, it could be a close game.
The parties at John L's house until halftime, then it moves over to Joey's house (P.S. - Don't forget to duck your head when entering Joey's house)
High School Basketball is now officially fun to watch, the pre-season is over and the football kinks are over. There's some good games being played with great competition and all you have to do is drive to your nearest gym and sit back and enjoy. And as always, I suggest you make a few games to other schools and watch their talent and their fans in the bleachers, you'll get a new perspective for your fans!
Baseball season will be cranking up in less than a month, can you believe it? There ought to be several team right here in the ole Miss-Lou that will be tough as my wife's roast this year and I for one can't wait to get out there and catch some of the action! I never played baseball growing up, got hit in the mouth when I was 8 years old and I still blink repeatedly when a bouncing baseball comes at me. But the strange thing is, a bouncing football never bothered me and it rolls more uneven than a baseball! Must be some of that psychological mumbo jumbo or either I'm a Jack Wagon?
Wow! Joey did a number on ya'll, all that time and he gets 3 of them unanswered...unbelievable but, he really needed that for Christmas!
That's all I got for right now, ya'll be safe traveling those hi-ways and bi-ways and I'll catch ya'll at John L's and Joey's tonight!!!!!!!
