It's all basketball now, well, that and soccer but, I don't know much about that sport except that I know that one team wants to kick it the net and there's one guy that tries to stop it from going in! I know there's more to it than that but, It's too late for me to learn now. On to hoops..... Alot has been said about the recent scoring escapades of Central Private's boys team. I'm not saying that the coach is putting up a "Hundo" on everybody on purpose but, if you have 4 quality athletes' that are more dominating than any other team, what can you do to prevent this? Does he tell his team to miss on purpose? Should they drive the ball down the court and freeze it? If you agree to any of these instances, then what are you teaching your team? There will be a time real soon where they will meet better competition and these guys have to be able to play a whole game!!!! I'm not saying it's fun to get a hundred hung on you but, the team has to play to the best of their abilities. If you can't hang with them, I believe the MAIS has a forfeit policy.
Scam Newton...I mean Cam Newton wins the Heisman and if anybody was shocked, you've been in a cave for the last few months. We all know that he was aware of what his dad was doing, I mean REALLY, do you think he was left out of those conversations with his dad? But just like Reggie Bush, they are and were the best in college football and that is a certain! So whatever happens to Auburn down the road, if the NCAA does find hard evidence and gives them the death penalty.....Cecil and Cam will be watching from Cam's new mansion in front of that big high definition TV and laughing all the way to the bank!
Waiting on the bowl season to kick off is a terrible time of year, nothing on TV but basketball and I don't watch it! Maybe I can get Hoff to write a weekly report for me to post in here?
I know I missed last week but, I told ya'll I was getting into sump'n and I didn't want to spill the beans until I was sure I was going to pass all the test and get a contract.....I'm officially a Benefit's Counselor for Colonial Life Insurance. I know, nobody wants to talk about insurance, until it's too late! But we have Accident, Cancer, Short Term Disability, Critical Care, Medical Bridge and all types of Life Insurance policies...most are written through companies and withheld through payroll deductions. Anyway, it's been interesting and I'm enjoying it.....you can teach an old dog new tricks!!!!
Sorry, not much for this week and as I'm writing this, the NFL games are being played, so nothing there. Ya'll be careful and I'll catch ya on The Board!!!!

Congratulations AGAIN to the Trinity Saints on another State Championship football title. Now I know that the Saints will be moving up to class AA next year and I'm sure that the AA teams were glad it wasn't this year as they would have won that one too but, I've been reading on The Board where some think that the boys south of town could have won it all!!! I'm not saying they couldn't have but, them boys around Jackson got WAY more players and stay fresher longer as they don't have to play both sides of the ball. But for the first half, I believe the Saints could give any of them all they wanted. Coach King and his staff did an excellent job preparing these young men and should be commended for their effort as well. I look to se them play deep into the play-offs next year as well, they have a lot coming back and some good ones coming up!
Two weeks in a row and the Main trivia question goes unanswered, I don't try and look up the answers but, Joey must be reaching deep to stump ya'll for 2 weeks in a row! Will he make it a sweep this week? Or will ya'll finally break his spirit?
It's been a couple weeks for most basketball teams while some will get their starters back since football is over. So I'm guessing (since I haven't watched a game this year) that the play might be getting better. I really hate to watch the basketball until after the Christmas and New Years holidays, it's mostly kinda sloppy until that time is over and then you can watch some pretty good play. I know there are exceptions to the rule but, catch me before that and I was forced into watching a game!
On to college football....after watching Alabama crush Auburn in a rout by 24 points, I was feeling bad as Auburn was pretty much our (SEC) only chance to get an SEC into the BCS championship game. But in the second half, Auburn finally decided to let Cam Newton do his thing and doing his thing is what he did! I just hope they let him do it again this week against South Carolina.
I'm glad that Boise State got beat because I didn't want to see them in the BCS title game but, I really feel bad for their kicker, he has to live with that for the rest of his lfe....ie: Bartman, Buckner to name a few. I hope he overcomes it and goes on to a productive life.
Ole Miss is in their 3rd year and as everybody knows, the third year is where as a coach, you have your program hitting on all cylinders. Except for Ole Miss, you know, the school up north. And second year Miss. State coach showed what a program on the move should be doing in his second year. Watch out for them Bulldogs next year! As for Ole Miss, I have no idea what they can muster out next year! Maybe Mackey will be the answer on offense but as for defense...Nix needs to go!
USM scores a kagillion points and loses! Maybe they can get Tyrone Nix back?
Surely ya'll didn't think I forgot about LSU? Here's the deal-e-o, Les Miles is a good coach, he knows how to get the best players, he knows how to prepare them for the game, he may not be the best at clock management but, he is the worst at keeping dead weight around and the dead weight I'm talking about is Crowton. I've heard that this is the last year of Crowton's contract and I'm hoping that Miles has enough sense to let this anchor head on down the road. LSU needs a smart play caller that knows how to utilize all that talent and be able to rest a lot of starters in the last half of the ballgames. Although Arkansas ripped apart the LSU secondary, we all knew that the Tigers weak spot was the secondary. That's what allowed the Hogs to run as good as they did the second half. Mallet is just that good though and if the NFL doesn't straighten out their mess, he could be back next year.
So the Saints won their Turkey Day game over the Cowboys but, you got to admit, Dallas does look better under the new coaching team. They gave New Orleans all they wanted in this game. Did I mention that I hate the Cowboys?
But the game I was anticipating the most was...The Bolts and the Colts! And my Bolts are finally back to playing high caliber football again and it never feels bad to beat a Manning!
I would like to remind everyone that there are young people that read The Board, so watch your language and your cute way of using letters that still make it a bad word, all of the young readers aren't in kindergarten and we don't need to be setting bad examples for them.
That's all for this week and please, ya'll be careful traveling the roads at night, it's getting colder and the deer are moving...catch ya on The Board!

Name the two quarterbacks Drew Brees called
for advice before the Super Bowl? Answer:
Trent Dilfer and Kurt Warner. Winner: Joey
Martin.
Bonus Questions
Who is credited with starting the seventh inning stretch (and not by Wikepedia)?
Answer:
Brother Jasper of Mary FSC who served as baseball
coach of the Manhatten College baseball team. He was also the Prefect of
Discipline at the school so when he noticed some of the Manhatten students
getting restless in the seventh inning of a game against a semi-pro team called
the Metropolitans, he called time-out and told the students to stand up and
stretch for a few minutes until play resumed. Manhatten played the New York
Giants in the late 1880s at the old Polo grounds and the practice spread from
there. (See cliff notes JohnL) Winner: Edie Brewer.
Name the former NBA first-round pick who set an NBA mark for futility by playing
in 77 games and 770 minutes of action before getting his first career assist in
1997. Answer:
New York Net Yinka Dare or Dinka Yare or Winky
Tink or DinkaDinkaDoo! Trying to cover whatever joey might have. Ha! . Winner:
Dave Myers.
In 2001, who did Kevin Braswell pass as the all-time steals leader at
Georgetown? Answer: Sleepy Floyd. Winner: Farley Kinchen.
What two-time University of Houston All-American finished No. 1 in PGA Tour
earnings in 1992? Answer:
Fred Couples. Winner: Jesse West.
Well, then there was one! Trinity is the sole Miss-Lou team still playing...and it's for the State Championship!!!! Now I know that everybody is saying that Trinity will wipe the floor with Tri-County and that may be true but, don't think that David King won't have this bunch focused and ready to play, they will not over look this ball game.
Congrats to the Greenwave of Cathedral and first year head coach Ron Rushing. I really think this group surprised a lot of people this year not only here in the Miss-Lou but around the state as well. These young men can hold their heads high and the seniors will have memories that will last a lifetime.
Everybody has a take on every game, so I'm entitles to mine....I only got to see the last half of the Ole Miss and LSU game (I was golfing the first half) but one thing that LSU needs to worry about is the left side of their defensive line (generally referred to as the weak side) I would guess to say that Ole Miss got most of their rushing yards on that side alone..but I'm guessing, I don't look up stats, that's for somebody else's enjoyment, not mine! LSU played a better offensive scheme than what I've seen them play (except for the second half of the Bama game) I don't think that LSU will play another team this year that has a QB that controls a game like Ole Miss and Auburn has, so this is good because the Tigers can't control that very well. I still believe that LSU will beat Arkansas and probably play in the Sugar Bowl. Ole Miss will play a bowl game this year...the Egg Bowl.....and I'm thinking State is gonna mop the floor with them!
USM won...yeah!
After last weeks performance by Michael Vick and plus what he's done since he's been a starter, coupled in with last night game.....I'm thinking Philly has a shot at the Super Bowl! He's done beat both the Manning boys and with a red hot Chi-town up next, he could prove my point.
The Saints and Cowboys on Turkey Day!!!! I hate this, the Cowboys are undefeated under Garrett and I really, really hate Dallas! (sorry Andrew)
I haven't said much about my Chargers this year but, they have the number one rated offense and the number two rated defense, they sit at 4-5 on the year because the special teams suck!!!! C'mon Norv, fix it!!!! Oh yeah, they got the Colts next.
Basketball season has heated up already and the big word out is that Central Private has their old coach back...Coach Publinaski ( did I spell that right?) and with him comes the Australians and their height. Get ready MAIS fans, you will be treated to some round ball like you ain't never seen before...unless you attend any MHSAA games. I can't wait, I think they play at Trinity sometime pretty soon...somebody let me know when, I love heckling giants!
That's all for this week, ya'll have fun and be careful....later!!!!!!!!!!!

said of Paul (Bear) Bryant, "Playing for Paul Bryant is like going to war; you

Farley Kinchen.

with the No. 1 overall pick? Answer: Kwame Brown. Winner:
David Boydstun.
Well, Joey almost got swept in the trivia but, he managed to keep one of them unanswered, I know he must feel verklempt. ( it's an old inside Board joke)
Congrats to Natchez High on another great season, Coach Lance reed has done a tremendous job with these young men and they'll have football stories to tell for the rest of their lives.
I was talking to a Cathedral Alumnus and I asked him what he knew about Noxapater, he told me if they come out flat again in the first half like they did the previous week, they'd get their tails handed to them (yeah, I cleaned that up) Well, Cathedral came out just about like they did the previous week but, the heart and soul came out in these young men and they came out victorious again! Of course the Green Wave have a tough task this week as they play Dexter, the only team they lost a district game to this year and the Greenies will be looking to avenge that loss!
Trinity cruised to another big win over University Christian, everybody got to see action and the starters got plenty of rest. The Saints will play Sylva-Bay on Friday and although they have Cody Prewitt, a Dandy Dozen player, he ain't seen as many athletes on the opposing team as he'll see up close and personal this Friday night! I expect to see Trinity swarm Prewitt like bees to honey!
Basketball season has began and everybody is playing now...well, except for the football players. The Board numbers always go up at this time of year and we have several contributors that post scores, give analysis, game breakdowns and predictions. That's what makes The Board fun to read. Thanks to all of ya'll that take the time to give us your thoughts and opinions.
Ole Miss blows another one, It pretty much blows any attempt at getting a Bowl Game.
Miss. State has done a tremendous turn=around and all the credit goes to coach Dan Mullens and staff. Expect bigger things from them next year. They should get a Bowl Game for sure!
USM beat Central Florida and that really surprised me! Maybe these Eagles can win out and get some kind of Bowl to play in?
LSU upended LaMo...anybody surprised? Although the offense was back to its old form again. And they have the Black Bears this weekend, they better get that "O" straighten out and fast!
Buffalo WINS!!!!!!!!!! they played Detroit, who has 2 wins.
Dallas WINS!!!!!!! under new head coach Jason Garrett, I like him as the head coach. Now they need to get areal quarterback.
Big game tonight as the Eagle and the Redskins battle. I hope Vick goes off on them with big numbers.
The Vikings lost and I'm thinking Childress may not make it through the rest of the year.
I went to McComb Saturday and watched the Advance Sports Braves 8-under baseball team play in the Orange Crush Classic. The Braves placed 2nd in the tournament and it brought back a lot of memories from when Christopher played. They play with so much emotion, both up and down...and it changes regularly!!!!
Deer season with bows has been the season so far and I've already heard of a few nice bucks being harvested, I need pictures!!!!!! Gun season will open soon and I urge ya'll to be respectful with your weapons, accidents don't happen on purpose!!
That's a wrap for this week, ya'll be careful and best of luck to our area teams.....later!!!!!!!

against Newberry. Winner: Joey
Martin.
Who was the first Central Florida player to play in a Super Bowl?
Answer: Shawn
Jefferson. Winner: Winston Mullins.
It still amazes me that with all the schools we have in such a small area, that we have so much talent. ACCS lost out in the first round of the play-offs but, they raised expectations this year and seem to be headed in the right direction. Cathedral has probably surprised more people than anyone and they are still chugging along. Natchez High looked to be out of it early with two big losses but, they are still winning into the play-offs. Trinity is still looking for an opponent that will give them some competition as they keep steamrolling. Vidalia did end their season on a high note and should improve next year.
The play-offs are always an exciting time of year as each team is looking to make memories that will last a lifetime. Best of luck to all the area teams, you are making us proud!!!!
I don't know who was doing the play calling for LSU last Saturday but, it didn't seem like Crowton. LSU actually had great play calling and put away Alabama in the end. If LSU can perform like this for the rest of the year, they're gonna be hard to beat. Of course now, Alabama just got a few million more fans as LSU hopes they can run the table.
Ole Miss beat LA LA...way to go, hip hip hooooooray! I'm not nore if Ole Miss can win the next 3 games but, I still wonder what he has up his sleeve when he plays LSU, he's owned them for quite a few years now. But LSU should be able to rest a few players this week as they play LA MO.
Miss. State has a very good opportunity to catch a down trodden Alabama team and pull an upset, there's not a better time!
The USM Golden Eagles!!!!! travel to play Central Florida.....at least they get to go to the state of Florida!!!!
How bout dem Saints?, maybe they are turning it around after all. They have looked better the last two weeks and we all know it better to get hot late than early.
How bout them Cowboys? Where's there One Egg Puddin Award?
I've updated Joey's News from last week, I was out of town from Tuesday til Friday evening.
I'm trying a new venture and it involved TESTING, I ain't studied in over 30 years for a test. Of course the instructor (40 hrs. of instruction) told me to just study what he tells me to and I'll do fine. Well I did and he was wrong! I actually remembered what I studied and we had questions that I never read anything about so, I missed it by 6 answers. So I'll be back in Jackson Friday morning to take the darn blasted thing again! Studying wasn't as bad as I thought and at least by taking the test, I can go back and learn some of the stuff the instructor left off!!! I'll tell ya'll more about it later....if I can pass this stupid test!
That's all I got this week, I'll be in town most of the week, so I'll catch ya'll on The Board!

Bonus Trivia No. 2: Name the board person who has the best mullet haircut.
(Keith made me do that one D.J. oops, did I give it away)
OK, I was MIA last week as I was helping a friend plant food plots, well you're thinking to yourself, "How long could that take?" Well they have around 16,000 acres of land and plant close to 1,000 acres, so that will clarify your question. Then after that, there was the Beau Pre' C.C.'s last big tournament of the year, the annual 4-Ball. So I had to practice up for that to. Of course it didn't help any as me and my partner were donators for the prize pool. Somebody's got to lose to make it work, right? Well I'm back in the office now and it's time to hear my personal attacks...I mean my opinions of sports.
ACCS ran into the buzz saw that is named Centreville Academy, is it just me or have we seen Centreville do this before? They play bad early, then get T'd off and run the table. Watch out AA, it's getting close to play-off time.
Cathedral not only man-handled Bogue Chitto, they exterminated them! And in the process, they have to be setting records.
Natchez High beats Terry but not without another comeback, two more wins and the Dogs are in the play-offs for sure!
The Saints of Trinity win all of their conference games this year!!!! Oh yeah, there was only one, Tallulah...is this school near Delta Village?
Vidalia got rolled by Bunkie but this is another week and they have a chance in this one.
Friday Night Games
ACCS travels to Manchester and the Rebels will put this one away and get ready for the play-offs.
Cathedral heads to Dexter and the W's are still rolling.
Natchez High goes up north to take on Wingfield, the Dogs are hungry and take this one easily.
Trinity plays Glenbrook and notches out another win.
Vidalia will host Marksville and the Vikings will put another win under their belts.
Now on to other but much more opinionated news........
The LSU Tigers lost to the Cam Newton Tigers, Newton looked like a man amongst boys on the field. How in the world do you let ONE man beat you like that? We're talking about one of the best defenses in the entire college football nation!!! I'm bewildered, I guess but LSU has done some crazy things before that I've never figured out. On a side note though, I heard they were talking to Curly Hallman about coming back!!!!! That ought to make LSU fans happy! Rest up Tiger Fans, you'll need the week off with the Elephants coming to town.
Ole Miss got it handed to them but, if they would have had about two more rain delays, Ole Miss might have won that game! But at least they got an easy game this week with Auburn.
You just can't say enough about Miss. State this year, sure they barely got by UAB but it was a week after bashing skulls with Florida! Kentucky will be a real tester for them, them Cats is sneaky.
USM didn't lose this week!!!! Off week for them and then they get UAB this week.
The World Champion New Orleans Saints lose to CLEVELAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, CLEVELAND!!!!!! What in Sam Hill is going on in New Orleans? They don't look anything like the team we saw last year and Drew Brees is playing worse than Tony Romo!!! (sorry Andrew) If they don't get the fire re-kindled and soon, we may be looking at one of the worst turn a rounds in football history!
I don't even want to discuss the San Diego Chargers but, I'm making signs!!!!
Speaking of making signs, I make signs now! We had so many signs to make for Advance Sports that it was cheaper for me to but a printer/cutter and do it myself. So if you need any signs, vinyl letters for your car windows, magnetic door signs, yard signs or anything of the sorts, just e-mail me what you want or call me and I'll make you a great deal. It's really kind of fun too!
Well, that's all I have for this week, ya'll be safe and I'll catch ya later!!!!!

Bonus question #2
How long will it take DJ to complain about the trivia questions? Answer: 3 seconds. Winner: Joey Martin.
Well, another Friday night and a lot of wins here in the Miss-Lou, ACCS lost to Central Private for the only loss. Cathedral did up homecoming in fashion, Natchez High won in a thriller over Brandon, Trinity shocks the BA Nation and Vidalia pulls off their first win of the season. As for my personal highlights of these games I go to Natchez High first, to make the play-offs, they pretty much have to run the table to make them and the next opponent is Brandon, always a tough team to play anywhere! But our Bulldogs came out on top. Next up is Trinity, they've been the underdog for the last two weeks playing much bigger teams (classification) but these Saints from the South side of town don't play like the ordinary Class A teams as they seem to enjoy being the underdog and pulling upsets. Last but not least, the Vidalia Vikings get their first win over Pearl River and hopefully this will kick start the rest of the season for them.
Up Next!
ACCS host Silliman and the Rebels have a good shot here to get back on the winning side of things.
Cathedral travels to St. AL, throw out the record books, it means much more than that! But I'll take the Greenies.
Natchez High has Jim Hill coming in and the Dogs are hungry!
Trinity host Baton Rouge Prep, a good week for the starters to get some rest after facing 2 AA schools in a row.
Vidalia at Bolton, the Vikings are ready to show everybody what they got!
I was at the Bridge City Gumbo Festival this past weekend and all I had was my cell phone to keep up with the games on Saturday UNTIL....I found a guy with a Sprint phone that had the LSU game on LIVE! and it was just like watching a very, very small TV. So I got to see the final minutes of the game. All I can say is, LSU is one lucky team, the fake field goal toss back over the holders head was a very bad throw, a football hitting the ground can go anywhere! but not for the lucky Tigers, it goes right into Jaspers hands like a magnet! But you know, I'd rather be lucky than good ANY day! There has been a lot of Miles bashing over the weeks as well as Crowton, heck I even considered that Miles was wanting to lose some games so he could head back to Michigan, but they just keep finding ways to win! You may have a heart attack but, the Tigers find a way to win and at this point, they are undefeated! Of course they have a very tough test this week as they play McNeese State.
Ole Miss didn't lose this week!!!! Of yeah, off week and they may need it as they get to play a T'd off Alabama.
Miss. State beat Houston but, Houston had no weapons of mass destruction. Don't be surprised to see Miss. State play Florida a good game.....for awhile.
USM has a 20 point lead for their homecoming!!!!!! and blows it! Next up is Memphica.
What's up in New Orleans? It just doesn't look like the same play calling as last year. It's like their playing defense on both sides of the ball....Open it up Baby!!!! It doesn't really matter, the Saints tickets will sell out for the next 5 years just because of last year!
There's a lot of post I have to read on The Board to get caught up, I'm sure nobody is slamming Alabama..hahaha, sorry Gill.
That's all I got for this week, hope ya'll have a great and safe week....Later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

David Boydstun.
Sorry it's been awhile since I've updated here but, after being gone for 2 weeks and then playing in the Beau Pre' Cup the next week, I just didn't get to keep up with much area sports.
ACCS only has one loss on the season and this should help them start to bringing in more players to the program and hopefully turn things around there in the future.
Cathedral has one loss but then they turn around and knock off Mt. Olive!! That's a HUGE win for the Greenies! Anytime you play them and come way with a win, it's big! Does anybody have any idea how many Ducksworth's and McNair's have played for Mt. Olive? I'd be curious to know.
How about them Natchez High Bulldogs? So they've lost two games....but look who they lost them to! Meridian and Oak Grove, two very impressive teams with winning traditions. This program has come a long way over the past few years with Lance Reed at the helm. It's about time too, there is so much talent at this school and hopefully they'll get some of those big ole boys walking the halls to join the team.
Trinity just keeps on keeping on and did so last week as they dirt rolled Class AA River Oaks. Things will be a little tougher this week as they try to stranglehold a very explosive Class AA Brookhaven Academy team. Trinity has a ton of weapons and they'll all need to chip in to pull this one out.
Vidalia hasn't performed very well so far this year but, in defense of this, they have a new coach and new system that they are trying to get these kids to understand. Don't throw in the towel with them just yet, coach Parnham will do what it takes to right this ship.
I don't understand what's going on at Ole Miss, but it sure is frustrating for their fans as they watch them struggle through this season. I did hear that they did come up with a new mascot...the armadillo... because they play dead at home and get killed on the road!
Miss. State in my opinion will be the team to watch in the very near future here in Mississippi, Dan Mullens has this team believing they can win ball games and when they get some offense to go with their "D", there will be some upsets in the making.
USM football has been mediocre at best, and maybe that's all they will need in CUSA to look good.
Ya'll didn't think I would stop without bringing up LSU did you? After watching the debacle yesterday, I have to sit back and think to myself, "Lester can't give the SPIKE signal?" Another poor clock management by the Tigers. Jarrett Lee looked very impressive to me on the last drive and I think he's all they got at QB, so go with it! I would also suggest that they fire Crowton now and make the QB coach the offensive coordinator....get it over with now! With the talent on the offense, I wonder what Jimbo Fisher could have done with them?
The New Orleans Saints have not showed ANY offensive fire power this year. I don't know what Sean Payton is doing or thinking this year, so conservative in his play calling. Maybe a few losses would help him open things back up.
I want to thank everybody for chipping in with texting me scores last Friday night, it's always fun to get the scores and pass them along.
Ya'll have a great week and be careful out on those roads traveling to see your favorite team...the cooler weather will be making the deer move, so watch out!!!!

What was unique about Jim Taylor's Green Bay
football playing card in 1959 and 1960? Answer:
It was photo of Jim Taylor of the St.
Louis Cardinals. Winner: Eddie
Brewer.
Bonus Questions
This college football power is 1-4 on Labor Day. Name the team.
Answer:
Southern Cal, with the win coming in 2002 against
Auburn. Winner: Joey Martin.
In 1988, this pitcher committed three errors on one play. Name him.
Answer: Tommy John.
With Jim Gantner on first, Jeffrey Leonard hit a
roller toward first. John pounced on it, fumbled it for one error, then threw
wild past first for another. But that's not all. As Gantner sped for home, John
cut off the throw by Winfield and threw the ball into the Milwaukee dugout.
Winner: Dave Myers.
What semi pro football team did Johnny Unitas play for?
Answer: Bloomfield Rams.
Winner: Joey Martin.
In what newspaper did "Casey at the Bat" first appear?
Answer: San
Francisco Examiner. Winner: Joey Martin.
Wow! Joey takes 3 of 5 on the trivia but, the main question did get answered and answered a lot but, I have to go by the date and time that I receive the answer into my e-mail box...I even got chewed out about that at church today by "M" of all people!!! If Joey's questions are too hard, let me know and I'll tell him to make them easier for ya'll.
ACCS picks up another win this past week and the Rebels seem to be playing better "D" also but, beating ASC ain't much to brag about but, they're 2-0 on the season so far and I'll make my predictions for next week on them later on in this post.
Natchez High played a scrappy bunch from across the river in Ferriday. The Bulldogs came away with the "W" but it tells me a lot about Ferriday and the noise they may be making this year in Louisiana.
Trinity gets by Centreville and I'm sure David King will take that win any way he can. Don't count Centreville out just yet, they've played bad early before and came back.
Vidalia lost to Block, I'm sure the Vikings coaches learned a lot about their team in this contest and will use this week to sharpen up and get some positions straightened out.
Friday Night Match-Ups
ACCS travels to WCCA, a place that Coach Paul Hayles use to call home. The Rebels are getting better and I think they'll take this one as well.
Cathedral got some rest last week and they'll host Enterprise this week. In my opinion, this will be their first real test. I still like the Greenies in this one.
Natchez High travels to Warren Central and if the Bulldogs get the win here, it will have to be error free football for them.
Trinity heads to Alpha Christian and the first team may not see much action in this snoozefest.
Vidalia host Quachita-Christian and if the Vikings were worried about Block, I have no idea what they may thinking this week, a tough game for the Vikes!
On to a little college football and my personal take on some games involving teams around us.
First off, Southern Mississippi takes on South Carolina....Welcome to SEC football Golden Eagles!!!! What can I say about this game that looked good for USM? Uh, the cheerleaders were cute! Of course I believe this is Spurrier's year, if he can't make some noise this year, he may be gone!
Ole Miss vs. Jacksonville State...looked like an easy win for the Rebels, they jumped out big and then when they put it on cruise control, they fell asleep at the wheel...and what a wreck it was when they woke up! Embarrassing, pathetic and no excuses!
LSU vs. N. Carolina, almost the same thing but they woke up while the car was just hitting the gravel shoulder! LSU defensive line was impressive to me, everything else wasn't even up to par for Tiger standards. NC was without several star players, so it was like LSU was playing their second string team. Say what or believe what you want to but, if the Tigers don't do something drastic, it may be the end of the Les Miles era.
Miss. State vs. Memphis... I told ya'll earlier that State has a coach and they looked impressive, I know it's only Memphis but, both QB's for State looked good and they look hungry! It's a tough schedule but, a few upsets and they could be a surprise team this year, I'm even predicting a Bowl game!
The NFL game that everybody is anxious for is coming this Thursday night as the Saints and the Vikings will butt heads. I think all the TV stations should just show this game and cancel their regular programming. Is there anybody that won't be watching this game? Well, I'm sure there are but, do we like those kind of people anyway?
Thanks to everybody that sent me scores last Friday night, I'll be doing it again this Friday night also, so send me your scores, I don't care who your team is, there are people out there that have a want to see those scores. (sorry Les)
I won't have any post in here after next Friday night, me and my sweetie pie will be headed to Destin from Sunday the 12th thru Sunday the 19th to celebrate her birthday (which is tomorrow) I ain't telling ya'll her age but, we sure are getting a lot of mail from AARP!!!!
Ya'll have a great week and always remember to be safe while traveling to them ball games!!!!!!!

This player missed the 1994-95 season-opener
of the NBA season after he rubbed his eyes from the bright lights at an Eric
Clapton concert, causing him to burn the first layer of his corneas because of a
chemical reaction from hand lotion he'd been using. Name him.
Answer: Charles Barkley. Winner: Dave Myers.
Bonus Questions
Which sport is played on the largest field (in terms of total area)? Answer:
Polo. Winner: Priss Bryant.
Name the two colleges who can
boast that two of its running backs who started together in the
same backfield are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Answer:
Syracuse with Floyd Little and Larry Csonka and Oklahoma State with Barry
Sanders and Thurman Thomas. Winner:
Eddie Brewer.
Name the Northwestern Louisiana quarterback who was picked in the fourth round
of the USFL Draft by the Michigan Panthers in 1983.
Answer: Bobby Hebert. Winner: Jet Reaves.
Who hit the first home run in Redland Field (later named Crosley Field)?
Answer: Cincinnati's Pat Duncan. Winner: Marty Stamper.
Joey got skunked!!! All of the trivia questions were answered last week so I'm sure Joey thinks he can stump ya'll this week...can he????? Of course, it wasn't without controversy as the largest playing field was answered as "Golf Course" which we all know is correct BUT, Joey has a disclaimer, the answer has to be what Joey thinks is the correct answer, so you see, sometimes you have to think like Joey, Scary thought huh????? Oh and Joey, a girl got the correct answer on that question!
All of the Miss-Lou teams that are playing regular season games won again this week, so everybody is 2-0, a great start for the Miss-Lou! Vidalia dropped a Jamboree game to Ferriday but that's just what it is, a practice game, don't count out the Vikings just yet! They'll use that game to fix problems and fine tune what they already have.
Japan wins the Little League World Series over Hawaii 4-1. These games are so much fun to watch every year and ESPN does a great job covering the series.
Tiger is showing signs that his game may be coming back, it's getting better since his divorce is finally over this past week. I'm not counting him out as some have done. He's making changes and he's done it before and came back even stronger. It may take longer for the public to embrace him again but, I think he will be back in championship form next year. Matt Kuchar won at the Barclays.
The UFC card last Saturday night was better than I thought it would be except for the Randy Couture and James Toney fight, it was exactly what I thought it would be, a takedown and beat down and submission. I really thought B.J. Penn would beat Frankie Edgar easily but, Frankie showed up better than before and won every round. B.J. just didn't seem like his old self in this contest either.
Pre-season game in the NFL are not much fun to watch, about the only thing that is are the QB's, Drew Brees looked like he hasn't missed a game since last season, he had pinpoint accuracy and Phillip Rivers looked good also for the Bolts. Tony Romo still looks bad to me and I still can't figure out why the Cowboys haven't gotten a better QB. (sorry Andrew) But this guy is not any good, sure he has his moments but this is the NFL (Not For Long) and when he has terrible games (often) one would think Jerry Jones (who has the money) would find him a QB!!!
Friday Nights Match-Ups
ACCS heads to Amite School Center and the Rebels swill be 3-0 after Friday night.
Cathedral has an easy win this week, they play Open and nobody has ever lost to Open.
Natchez High will play host to Ferriday, this will be Ferriday's first game of the season and I just don't think they can hang with the Bulldogs of Natchez.
Trinity host Centreville and the Tigers are 0-2 so far this season but, never ever count them out! I still like the Saints in this one!
Vidalia will travel to Block for their regular season opener and the Vikings will right the ship in this one.
That's all for this week, hope ya'll have a great week and as always, be careful traveling to watch your team play!!!!!

Name the player credited with the first home

Name him. Answer: Jim Abbott. Winner: David Boydstun.
In 1972, it was the first longest play in NFL history that did not result in an
NFL touchdown. Who were the players? Answer:
St. Louis quarterback Jim Hart had a 98-yard pass
completion against the LA Rams to Bobby Moore. Winner: Joey Martin.

Duquesne University's Chuck Cooper who was selected in the second round of the
1950 draft by Boston. Winner: Dave Myers.
Who was the last catcher not to wear a chest protector?
Answer: Cubs Clyde McCullough.
Winner: Joey Martin.
Wow! Does it seem like 10 years to ya'll? I can't believe I've been doing this that long, but my son did just turn 27 last week! I ha dno idea my wife was getting that old! For some of ya'll that are new to this site, I started this back when my son was in school playing sports. It started out as just a local website that covered area sports (and this part of it still does) but the Bulletin Board grew way beyond my expectations. I don't know why the private school sector got so much bigger than the public school side, I wish we had more public school participation but, it is what it is! I want to thank everybody for everything that you do on here, it takes people like ya'll to make this work, sending in scores, analyzing games, reporting, predicting and so much more. Again, thanks for everything!
What a Friday night for our Miss-Lou athletes, all of our teams won and some by huge numbers! ACCS is averaging 53 points a game!!!!! but they're giving up 50? I'm sure coahc Hayles and his staff will be working hard on "D" this week! Cathedral went down to Central Private and won a contest that some thought wouldn't happen after CP had a great Jamboree last week. Congrats to Coach Rushing on his first win as a Greenie! Natchez high didn't do anything spectacular but they got a win and racked up some points in the effort. And last but not least, Trinity dismantled Prairie View and not many were surprised, Coach King has another talented squad ready to make some noise again this year.
The New Orleans Saints looked a lot better Saturday night than they did last week. The offense clicked even after Drew Brees left the game. Should be another exciting year for the Saints fans and no matter if you ever have to wear those bags again, at least you won a Super Bowl and nobody can take that away!
Advance Sports in Natchez, MS is signing kids up from the Miss-Lou area ages 7 and up for Fall Baseball. If you live out of town and already have a team or would like to form a team from your hometown and are looking to play some games, please contact Chris Rayborn at 601-807-5153. Games will start in September and go into November with play on Saturdays and Sundays. We know that some kids will be playing football on Saturdays but, if your child is not tired or wants to play on Sundays, just give us a call and we'll work it out. It's all about repetition and game situations, that's what gets you better. We have plenty of room on our teams if you are interested in playing, no matter where you live.
I appreciate everybody that sent me scores last week and I hope that the way I'm doing it now is helpful for everyone. Web browsers on cell phones have gotten cheap enough now that most everybody can access the web. My e-mail list to send scores had just gotten too large and I couldn't keep up. Again, thanks and let's do it again this Friday night.
First week back and Joey has two trivia questions unanswered, I can't believe it! He's probably dancing and singing around a small fire like Rumplestilskin right now!!
Friday Nights Match-Ups
ACCS will host Hillcrest and another win should be under the Rebels belt. Hillcrest is coming off a loss to Central Hinds last week. If the Rebels can play a little defense, they should win this contest.
Cathedral will travel to Lloyd Star and if the Greenwave plays like they did last week, they should have no problems coming out on top.
Natchez High host Wilkinson County and the Bulldogs will have more bite this week and should knock off this traveling bunch easily, I look for Javon Washington to have a big game.
Trinity - Coming off a lopsided victory, the Saints will have a tough contest this week as they travel to East Rankin and a good football team. The Saints will have to play a flawless game to come out of Pelahatchie with the "W"
Vidalia - The Vikings will open up their regular season on 9/3 at Block. I believe they will host a Jamboree this weekend. They generally do!
I need pictures!!! Game pictures, outdoor pictures, it don't matter, just e-mail them to me so I can get these kids some recognition.
Ya'll be careful traveling and have a great week and until then, I'll catch ya on The Board!!!!!!
8/15/10
Can you believe it's time for football? Finally? Schools back in for everybody now, at least in our area around here and Jamboree's have already been played by most with the regular season approaching as of this coming Friday night. I don't really care for Jamboree's, as a spectator anyways, most coaches are just testing the waters to see who can play where and if some can just play at all! You don't see many trick plays or anything that could tip your hand when the season starts...and for good reason! I'm waiting for Friday night when each game means something.
OK, my take on the upcoming season for our Miss-Lou teams......
ACCS - much improved from previous years, they did much better last year and I expect to see more of the same and maybe even a win or two more.
Cathedral - New head coach Ron Rushing has his Greenies fired up and the off season work is gonna pay off for them. Much better year this year and intensity will be a factor.
Natchez High - They've got the fire power especially with Javon Washington returning at QB, plenty of targets for him and he'll use them all. Another good year foe the Dogs.
Trinity - You lose a few players, you pick a few up, the pick ups will make the difference this year to go along with the studs that are returning. Watch out Class A.
Vidalia - Gary Paul Parnham will have his boys ready to return the rich tradition of winning back to Vidalia.
College football is just around the corner and the rags have Alabama on top again this year. Of course the fighting elephants have a core defense gone from last year and everybody knows that offense draws the crowd but defense wins the game! We'll just have to wait and see if the young "D" can fill the voids! Ole Miss signs Masoli and he doesn't have any chits he can use while in Oxford, one mess up and he's gone! For the Rebels sake, if he does mess up, they better hope it's in late January! Mississippi State in my opinion should be much improve this year, the players should have bought in to coach Mullins philosophy by now, if they haven't....we may see some heads roll. LSU......All the 5 star recruiting better pay off for ole Les or the Tiger faithful will run him out of Death Valley! This is his year to prove if he can coach and if he can surround himself with good coaches at least, to get the job done! USM is predicted to win their side of the CUSA conference and the rest is up to Fedora and his staff to go the extra mile.
Pro Football has started their exhibition games...I hate these too!!!! My Chargers play the Saints this Friday night and I could care less! Bring on the REAL games!!!!
Last year I was texting scores to people that were on my update list....there's too many people now to keep doing that but, with just about everybody having the internet on their phones now, you can pull up MissLouSports.com on your phone and I'll be updating scores as I receive them. Of course, you need to send me your scores, don't rely on thinking that somebody else is doing it, send them to me, it's just an easy text or phone call to me at 601-597-3624. I'll be on a football field somewhere, so keep sending me them scores!!!!!! Thanks!
AAFANDAMAN always has the best coverage of Academy sports and he always has great insights and predictions. Don't go ragging on him when he picks against your team, he really is using factual information and is just keeping it interesting for all of us. I look forward to his predictions and interviews as the season rolls on. Good Luck aafandaman!!!!!
I would really like to have more public school involvement on MissLouSports but, it takes people to call in their scores...be THAT person!
I know, I know.....I've listed trivia questions above and I haven't even sent out all the shirts to winners from last year but, I'm gonna send them out this week...I promise!!!!!
I know this may be hard for some people and may not apply to most but, when you attend games this year, put yourself in the person's shoes that you may be yelling at, they are doing their job the best that they can. Opinions always vary and believe me, I've never made a bad call from the other side of the fence, I'm 100% correct after the fact. If everybody thought for 30 seconds before they said something, they wouldn't regret it later!!!!
Everybody will be traveling somewhere this season, we leave games late at night, maybe stop and get something to eat on the way home....be careful, there's animals and crazy drivers out there, don't be a statistic!
That's all for this week, I hope ya'll have a great season and if you see me out there, be sure and pull me over and introduce yourself, it's always good to put a face with a name!

Summer baseball has cranked up for most of all the boys here in the Miss-Lou, except for one set of boys...the Cathedral team is still kicking and making a run at a State Championship. Last week they dismantled Weir in 2 easy contest. Best of luck to the Greenwave as they continue to make us all proud!

Tiger Woods left the Tour Players Championship with a bulging disc in his neck....it seems that this has been a bad year for Tiger (could you feel the sarcasm in that statement?) What goes around, comes around. I'm not judging him but, with all of his problems, one wonders if he'll ever make it back to the playing form he once had? I use to enjoy watching him play and now I could care less, but I'm trying!
My son has gotten me into this crazy sport called Mixed Martial Arts. We've rented every Pay Per View that a group called the UFC has put out since he's been home. I've seen lots of upsets in this sport and it is pretty brutal at times but not like some of the old UFC fights in the beginning (on videos we rented) there are many more rules now and that has made it safer for those involved. Some people still call it barbaric but most of those people are tying to take up for boxing. It has become the most pay per viewed event ever! over boxing and rasslin. So before you judge the sport, read some articles and learn about the sport and you may find yourself a fan also!
Advance Sports has been in operation a full week and with great success! There are boys and girls coming to the facility for both baseball and softball. We are still adding equipment and working to get all sports covered. Drop by for a visit, the first one is free! We still need some exercise equipment, if you have some that you are not using, give us a call.
This will be the last report for the season, we'll start back up when school starts back up, just like I do every year. Trivia will start back then as well, I think Joey needs the break to dig up some harder questions. Joey's News will still be added and The Board will continue, but the pace will be slower, it always is!
Ya'll have a wonderful summer and I'll probably see ya'll at a game somewhere!!!!!

Chicago Tribune sports editor Arch
Ward and it was part of the 1933 Worlds Fair. Winner: David Boydstun.

It's play-off time for baseball and by far the best time for watching high school ball! Almost all of our local teams are in the post season and while most will be playing the best 2 of 3, Louisiana still has the single elimination format. Of course Hoffpauir loves this format and has a been a huge fan of it for years!!! (sarcasm) I guess Louisiana's thinking behind this has to mean that more teams get to play and the LHSAA will profit more...I guess? Anyway, best of luck to all those that are participating in the post season!!!!

Still not sure if the turf will be installed by the but, we'll have the batting cages and pitchers mounds and other baseball and softball related items ready to go! We invite everyone that's interested to come by on Saturday and take a look around, we'll open the doors at 9am. Memberships will be available as well as private lessons for non members. We have some current college players committed to come in this summer and help plus we have some colleges committed to come later in the summer for football clinics. Chris will probably do a baseball clinic this Saturday, I'll post his plans and times for this on The Board later in the week. Hope to see ya'll there!!!!
I watched the NFL Draft's first round pretty intently as the players were selected. Some were predictable and some had me thinking, "Huh?" But they're the experts! I believe the best pick and fit was Jimmy Clausen to Carolina, with the offensive skill players on that team, he should steady their offensive scheme and make a difference quickly! It will be an interesting season and will be fun to watch who exceeds and who flops!
That's all for this week, ya'll be safe traveling to games and I'll catch ya later!!!!

It's looking like most of the Miss-Lou baseball teams will be playing in the upcoming play-offs except for Adams Christian (I'm pretty sure) their 2 losses to Central Private may have been enough to keep them from making them. Out of the teams that are playing, I'm picking Trinity to go the farther. They have some good players to go along with good pitching in Class A and I think they can really make some noise.
Vidalia has had to overcome a lot of obstacles this year, the starting pitcher out with an injury was the biggest blow but, somehow Johnny Lee Hoffpauir finds a way to keep his squad motivated and to keep winning games....I guess that's why he's been the head baseball coach for over 50 years! Well, that and Maalox. And sorry Hoff for busting out your age on here.
I'm still reading about this Riverfield team that's only lost one game this season, if they're "For Real", we'll find out soon enough when play-offs start!

As most of you know, Phil Mickelson won The Masters but, there's more to this story, his wife and mother have both been battling cancer, his wife was at Augusta but was watching from bed all week, it was good to see her watching from the 18th green as her husband won his third green jacket. His golf has been limited just like Tiger's except for the reasons. After Tiger's swearing in God's name in front of fans and the camera's, I don't think I can ever pull for him again. Congrats to Phil, a class act and a true family man!
Advance Sports Academy will be opening soon!!!!! We will be cleaning out the building this week and preparing to get open as soon as possible. In a game in 1967, this former Kentucky
Wildcat decked one of his teammates, a 225-pound offensive tackle, for missing a
block. In a sprint drill he caught sight of a teammate passing him, whereupon he
grabbed the no-good overachiever, flung him out of the race and went on to beat
the field. The following year, he raced into the Georgia end zone and trapped a
pass on one bounce. Convinced that had he dived for the ball he would have
caught it—that he had messed up—he raged at himself. When the referee returned
the ball to the line of scrimmage, He booted it into, roughly, the 20th row.
Again in practice, Raynard Makin, a burly sophomore fullback, took his time
assuming a ready stance. Suddenly he pitched forward on his face, This person
having stepped up and planted a knee in his rump. "It's just kind of silly when
you got 10 guys doin' the right thing and only one guy who is messin' up," He
explains. Answer: Dicky Lyons. Winner: Jesse Ward.

I had been reading where Riverfield baseball just keeps on winning and winning but, I figured they haven't just played anybody yet....but they have played a few teams that aren't terrible and they're dismantling them also! So what is going on over there that has this team playing so well? Whatever it is, could they pass it around?
I really thought Hillcrest would clean the slate this year but, I've seen where they've dropped a few to some teams that you would have thought they would have beaten....Oh well, I guess that's why they play the games.
Natchez Cathedral has a great nucleus team and we are going to hear some noise from this bunch during post season play.
Trinity has been making some noise as well, I watched them play last week and they've got some great talent. Expect to hear more about them later.
Other News
Our local newspaper (The Natchez Democrat) printed a good story on the Grad U One Outfitters and some things they've done with Redneck Adventures in Sundays paper, you can probably find the article on their website. We'll be having a team snake grabbing tournament on Lake Washington June 19th. The headquarters will be at Roy's Store in Chatham, MS where after the event, we will have a crawfish boil and live music. If you are interested in attending, drop me an email and I'll give you the information. Lodging is available at Roy's Cabins plus there are several RV sites.
I attended the Beau Pre' Pilgrimage Four Ball over the weekend, I say attended because I didn't play very well!!!! But it was cold and windy out there and there was even a dramatic ending as local Richard Edgin and Justin Elliot looked like it was theirs to win until Cade Hebert sank a 20 footer for eagle to send he and his partner Marc Noel into a sudden death play-off. They started on the par 4 15th and both teams made par. They went to the par 3 16th with water guarding the front and right and Hebert hooked one over the water back to within 10 feet short of the hole. Nobody else was even within 30 feet. Hebert made the putt and his team won the event with many members and participants watching. A great tournament all in all and great participation from our out of town guest.
The building is secured for the Sports Academy that my son is starting, the people that own the building have some work to do to get it ready but, I'm hoping that within late April, it will be open for business. We've talked to a lot of people and it seems to be something that a lot of people think we need around here. He's looking to have a monthly family membership of $50 which will include instruction while the members are at the facility if needed. He plans on having some MLB players come in on select Saturdays for mini camps also, we already have David Dellucci signed to step in and help. We will also be contacting Will Clark, Ben McDonald, Matthew Tolbert, Jarrett Hoffpauir and Van Pope. Hopefully we can get a few more as well. Please pass the word around and if you want to help in any way, please contact my son Christopher at 601-807-5153.
I need pictures!!!!! John L. is tired of having his same picture on here every week...send them to me!!!!!!
That's it for this week, ya'll be safe and I'll catch ya later!!!!!!!!!!!!

I finally got to watch some High School baseball last week as I traveled over to see ACCS host Silliman. I wasn't pretty! Silliman was hitting everything thrown towards the plate! AC lost the varsity doubleheader that evening but I didn't stay long enough to see it all go down. I had almost forgotten how small their field really is, I measured it when my son played there and was amazed at the length, general pop ups are homers there and there's not anything they can do about it without major truck loads of dirt brought in to lengthen the field...it would cost way too much to do this.
ACCS plays Copiah Academy today and since I've heard so much about a couple of their players, I may have to ease out there and see what all the noise is about.

Someone told me that for someone to pick the NCAA Men's Basketball 64 team bracket correctly all the way through to the champion, the odds are better to win the Lottery and get struck by lightening in the same day! I'm not much into watching a lot of games but, if it's less than a couple minutes left, I'll watch. What a year for some of these teams to upset and build their programs even more. I'm still waiting on the Final Four before I sit and watch a full game though!
The biggest news in the Golf world is that Tiger is coming back and his first tournament back will be The Masters....The Masters security is the tightest in the industry, a very good reason he chose this one to make his comeback. I still think somebody will say something in the crowd!
My son is looking to start a Sports Academy here in Natchez, this would be a place where kids could go indoors for batting, pitching and fielding lessons or just to practice on their own. It will probably be open after school hours and on Saturdays to begin with and summer hours to be finalized later. Hopefully, he plans on help from other athletes around town to bring in football, basketball, soccer, softball and other sports to the Academy. He has a building picked out and everything looks pretty good but, it's going to cost some money to fix the place up and get all the necessary equipment to make it work. But if enough people get involved, this could be a great place for kids to learn more about their game and have a place to go to get the extra instruction they need to excel in their sport.
If anybody is interested in the Sports Academy and wants to get involved, please call Chris at 601-807-5153.
That's all for this week, ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya later!!!!!

Congratulations to the Vidalia boys basketball team on winning the LHSAA Class 3A Championship!!!! after last year, we all knew that this was coming and they are deserving!!! We'll be hearing more noise from some of these players as they play at the next level next year.
I still haven't made a baseball game yet, between the rain and traveling, I just haven't worked one in yet but, at least by now there will be better play as the kinks are working their way out and some good play will be more enjoyable. One thing I really have enjoyed seeing more of is the cross over play play between the public and private schools, this should have been happening years ago, the kids love it and when it involves local teams...the gate loves it!!!! Now these kids that grew up playing with each other get to play again, I think that is fantastic.

The MAIS basketball season is over, well maybe except the All-Star game and one of the things that I liked seeing was the rise of a school from Southeast Mississippi named Presbyterian Christian School, with a beginning that you can count using both hands, 7years? And already a force to deal with! The boys lost to a very good and well coached MRA team, but it won't be long before this Hattiesburg team brings home a Gold Ball and it could be in either the boys or girls team because both played extremely well this year.
On the girls side, East Rankin Academy won over Pillow and ERA has already proved that they are a dominant team in the MAIS going back several years in both boys and girls. Head Coach Michael McAnally (aka, the GQ Man) coached several years back at Huntington and that's where I first met him when he was still wet behind the ears. He's proved that he's a winner and I'm sure we'll see some more Gold Balls coming through Pelahatchie in the future.
It's full throttle baseball season boys and girls and I was looking forward to catching my first games this evening between ACCS and Cathedral but, it looks like we may be in for a storm here in the Miss-Lou...I haven't checked but, I'm betting that Vidalia has a game today!!!!

I just got back from Mellville, LA yesterday and I got to enjoy some good rabbit hunting in the Louisiana swamp land, we got 13 bunnies Saturday morning and 12 on Sunday morning, but better than that was the food these Cajuns were cooking! We got there Friday night and they cooked up some catfish, white perch and speckled trout filets, fried oysters, corn nuggets and onion rings. The next night they cooked some rabbits down in a Rotel stew with sausage and onions and some other spices, a potato dish, black eyes peas and cracklin cornbread. We also had homemade cracklins before the meal was ready. Ok, so now that you've read this, guess which part I enjoyed the most?
The big rumor going around the outdoors in Mississippi and Louisiana is that Deer season next year may go 2 weeks into February, although Southeast MS already gets this extension, the rest of the State may get this as well. Louisiana is talking about doing this also and I heard that Rabbit season will not be extended there. I don't know if MS will extend ours or not yet but, it only seems fair to extend the Rabbit season as well, but that's just my opinion.

Congrats to all of our local teams that got to post season in basketball, you represented the Miss-Lou well! Also, for those still playing, we're all behind you and hope you have an experience to remember at Overall's.
The Trinity girls team (If I'm not mistaken) do not have a senior on the team and are State A runner-ups....that is a feat that will have their gym packed next year! Congrats to them and Coach Spears aka Wolfman! lol I can't remember who pegged him that name on The Board, but I think he even finds that funny.
After this weeks Overalls are over, we will be in full swing baseball and softball mode. Some preseason games have been played already and a tournament or two but, some of the smaller schools will get their basketball slash baseball players on the diamond and play will be more competitive. Early baseball and softball are always a little sloppy early on but, time will develop better play and I'm looking forward to some good ball pretty soon.

Joey is getting swept pretty regular now with his trivia, did you see the main question for this week? Where do you find that kid of question? He's digging deep now, ya'll are breaking his spirit....and I love it! I'm just waiting to see how fast this weeks questions get answered.
Our Redneck Adventures annual squirrel hunt took place this past weekend and it went over great. We had 66 hunters for the event spread around Adams, Franklin, Jefferson and Wilkinson counties. We are so fortunate to have land owners that donate their land for the event and guys that bring their dogs in to hunt with these guys. This is our second year to have Outdoors Without Limits as our featured guest. We raised close to $1,000 for them through the live auction on Friday night and we're hoping to do better for next year. We had a young man from Troy, Alabama come and play his guitar on Friday evening and he was fantastic, he even had a few comical songs that he wrote and sang for us. Michael is blind but he doesn't use it as a crutch, he is full of life and is a true inspiration. On Saturday evening, we had our own Natchez band, In Red Letters who just signed with Fidelity Entertainment, they are the same group that elevated "The Fray" We may be seeing big things from them on the horizon. Bob "Red" Owens is our annual chef and he made a Cajun Gumbo Friday night that saw people coming back for 3rds and 4ths. Dusty Lemoine was our Huntmaster and I don't know if we could do it without him, he also ran a camera for us the whole weekend. We had several volunteers that stepped up and made this a great event.
I think I'm headed to South Louisiana this weekend for some cajun rabbit hunting, I don't know how this will be any different from redneck rabbit hunting but, I'm sure I'll be able to tell you the difference when I get back.

I was out of town last week and didn't get the chance to make my weekly post, so I'll make up for it this week.
I got to see the Natchez High Bulldogs play some basketball against Vicksburg, Vicksburg was much taller and even seemed more athletic but, this is where great coaching takes over a game! Natchez used a game plan and executed it well, Vicksburg looked like they were playing backyard basketball. Although Natchez won by just a few points, it was still a win over a a quality opponent.
High school basketball in the MPSA is winding down to only the elite teams left on the ole hard court. We have 3 teams still playing ins the ACCS girls, the Trinity boys and girls. South State starts this week and it should be another great series of games for our teams.
Poor Joey is upset, I talked with him on the phone last week and he's probing through his oldest archives to find things that ya'll can't answer by searching the world wide web. He's desperate! He hates when he gets swept!
I had the craziest dream last night, the Saints won the Super Bowl!!! What? It wasn't a dream? OK, ya'll may not believe me but, you can ask my wife, this works almost every time....I pretend that the Saints are going to lose by making statements about how they're going to blow it and it backfires on me and it's OK because the Saints win. So earlier when I predicted the Colts to win on The Board, it was my intention to make them win by my statement. Did ya'll understand that? Anyway, what a game!!!! Peyton Manning did what his father never got to do last night....he threw a touchdown pass for the Saints in the Super Bowl!!!!!! I think Archie made him throw that pass, remember that Peyton has a been a Saints fan alot longer than he's been a Colts fan. You couldn't pay me to be in New Orleans on Tuesday for the parade, there's going to be mayhem in Bourbon Street and that's too much for me. But it was destiny for the Saints and the City of New Orleans and if you're looking to buy season tickets for next year......GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!
Being I didn't post last week I need to bring up a subject that really irritated me tremendously, The Pro Bowl.....did ya'll find this game to suck as bad as I did? They need to do something to make this game more interesting, nobody is trying, they don't won't anybody to get hurt I guess. But it's the Pro Bowl and I want to see the All-Stars PLAY!!!!!! either that or just give them a trophy and send them home!!!!
Mark your calendars' for this Thursday, the biggest event in history will take place and I will be there!!!!!!
That's all I got for this week, ya'll be careful traveling and I'll catch ya'll later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brookhaven Academy boys defeat Bowling Green last week and can you believe it, the refs were the difference in the ballgame? I hear this EVERY year. I've even heard people say that the Fuqua men graduated from BA! I know all of them personally and I went to school with them at Montebello in Natchez. I went on to high school at ACCS and they went to South Natchez. Ricky Barlow went to school at Montebello and then South Natchez and Jimmy Allgood went to ACCS his whole life and he's my partner in Redneck Adventures. I've had numerous conversations over the years with them just about games they've called at BA and NEVER did any of them tell me they were involved in home cooking. Why would they? What it is to gain for them? They are assigned games, BA doesn't get to pick who gets to call the games. I've watched these guys call games for years and in my opinion, they do a very good job. I'm not just saying that because I know them but because I've watched so many games as an unbiased witness for this website. Now I've seen some refs that love to blow a whistle in my day but not with any of the guys I mentioned above. Home game advantage is mostly due to crowd noise. I challenge you to go to a game that has no meaning to you and watch the refs unbiased and you'll probably understand what I'm blabbering about here!..........and while I'm on it, Brookhaven does get a lot of post season hosting and you know why? They are mostly centrally located, they have plenty of hotel rooms and many places to eat and shop and mostly, they do a great job as a host. There ain't nobody that has a better concession stand! I mean, they have hot fudge sundaes for crying out loud!
I've got to catch a Vidalia boys game, these guys are tearing up the hardwood again this year, I'm pretty sure that the only games they lost were early in the year against some much larger schools out of state. This core group of players made it to final game last year and lost but I'm betting they take it all this year!
Pro
The Colts and Jets game was good for a while but Peyton just picked apart the leagues number one defense. Sanchez has proved this year that he will be a force in the National Football League! We ain't seen the last of these Jets, well, maybe for this season but they'll be back next year with more experience under their belts.
The game of the year! I don't think the Super Bowl will be as exciting as this one was! The Saints and Vikes game will go as one for the ages (and that was not a pun on Brett) Back and forth scoring as each team scored to keep the game even as time drew down to the end of regulation play. But I think that Brett was not to blame in this loss, earlier fumbles by his teammates was more reason for the loss than his picks. Minnesota had a few opportunities to end this game before penalties and fumbles cost them. I was pulling for both teams. But I'm 100% behind the Saints in the Super Bowl.

A little picking and grinning went on last weekend as I traveled out to Johnny Lee Hoffpauir's hunting camp, even ole Gill Morris showed up and out (He can play a lot better than all of us) Ricky Bruce played with us and for a bunch of old guys we had a good time....Even wore out and decrepit Ed Bruce was there to cook up some of his famous Mexican cornbread which is always a treat! But the funniest thing was, as I pulled up to their camp, there were NO trees!!!! You could see stands all across the barren land and as I laughed at the site, the look on Hoff's face was priceless and he said, "I've seen 13 deer this year" He must have seen those driving in! I mean CLEAR CUT!!!! almost looks like a dirt desert! I had to laugh, they cut over 2/3 of their lease to the ground! Oh well, it ought to be pretty good next year....maybe! Also, check out the buck got to hold on the Picture of the Week, at least he got to see what one looked like this year!!
As I mentioned before, my son Christopher is home and is available for pitching lessons, you can contact him at 601-807-5153.

I would have loved to been at that PCS and ERA girls game last week and I'm hoping that I can make one of these showdowns before the season ends! I have a daughter that lives in Hattiesburg and I may just have to go and visit here when they meet over there again....somebody please let me know when they match up again in Hatty so I can make plans.
Also would like to catch a Brookhaven and Hillcrest game this year as well. I'm not sure if there is one but, somewhere down the line, these two will meet.
Do Brookhaven and Bowling Green play this week? This ought to be a barn burner as well!
So much is starting to be on the line as teams are playing conference games and seeding is very important as the season winds down. If you haven't watched any games this year, NOW is the time folks!
Pro
Brett Favre is too old, he doesn't have it anymore, he can't win in the play-offs....well, all I can say is hahahahaha!!!!! Everybody keeps forgetting that he ain't playing this game for the money! He loves the competition and the thrill!!! The later may be more important. I don't care if you like him or not for the way he left the Pack but, you have to admire his desire and his abilities on the field. And while everybody around here are Saints fans, it will be hard to pull against ole #4!!!!
The Colts got by the the Ravens but, the Ravens defense is awesome, if they only had a stronger offense, they may have knocked the mighty Colts off. I know, If's and But's.
The Saints defense looked better than they have all year and it helped that several key players were either back or healthier. If they can play two more games like the last one, they will be the Super Bowl Champs!
I saved the best for last as ya'll know I'm a very frustrated San Diego Chargers fan. I had thought that Norv Turner was changing, his play calling was fantastic this year, but I was still worried how'd he handle a game with meaning and closeness.....Well, the ole Norv came back, worse play calling of his life!! He can't get it done in the play-offs yet AGAIN!!!! So we need to get a new coach again and a new kicker! How can one of the most accurate kickers just lose it when everything is on the line? But we still had a chance and Norv decides to kick an on side kick???? There was still time to hold them and try a field goal (hopefully by another kicker) or even just score a TD....but NOOO, ole Norv showed his true coaching ability yet again!
I'll be a Saints fan now but, it will be hard to pull against the Vikings with Brett at the helm. Of course it would be nice to see the Saints and Colts in the finale and watch Archie's expression as the Saints win the Super Bowl...something he never even came close to doing!

This past weekend the Redneck Adventures crew headed over to Troy, Alabama for the annual "Outdoors Without Limits" Deer Hunt. There were over 130 participants for the event and although the weather Saturday was less than desired, several nice deer were harvested and many first timers. Outdoors Without Limits is open to anyone that cannot enjoy hunting without assistance. Several guides, landowners, camera crews and businesses donated their time, products, money and abilities to help make this the biggest event to date. Hats off to everyone that participated!!!!
That's all I have for this week, ya'll have a good'un and I'll catch ya'll later!!!!!!!!

High School
I watched the Trinity games against Prairie View last week. In the girls game, the Oliphant (sp?) girl didn't have quite a normal night as she scored 18 pts. but looked like she was trying to impress the scout from Loyola that was sitting by me and she forced some shots that were way off the mark. It was looking like a PVA blow out until "The Wolf Man" got their attention and the Lady Saints came back and put it away late in the game. I was very impressed by the 8th grader Brandis Hughes? (I think that's her name) she's Brandon Daggs sister and this girl can play the game! I can't wait to see her progress as the years roll by!
The Trinity boys game was sluggish from the start from both sides, a lot of easy missed shots spread all around. I understand that there's still some football in these boys and time will cure that. The Saints won the game in the end.
As I've said earlier, this is the time to get out and watch basketball, the games now have meaning and anything can happen on a given night and the players are fine tuning their games for post season play, gone is a lot of the sloppiness and inability to make the best team win.
College
Bowl season is over and the SEC did an average job in representing! We still ended up with 4 teams in the Top 10 but, we should have had more...in my opinion!
Things that I think are important for next years football teams.....
Ole Miss...be glad that Snead is gone, too inconsistent for my liking, get some new blood back there!
LSU...Re-group Les, get rid of your no good coaches and find better ones or your days will be numbered!
Miss. State...Dan Mullens has a good group of talented freshman that he should have ready for their sophomore or redshirted year. Give them a chance!!!! What could it hurt?
USM...Fedora is the best thing that has happened to USM in a long time, just keep on doing what you're doing and maybe, just maybe some real talent will play there.
Pro
I don't like Romo, never did, probably never will but, he's playing so far over his head right now that when the real Tony comes back to earth, he better hope the Super Bowl is over! Did I mention that I don't like Dallas either?
The Jets are very impressive right now, as hot as Dallas! Defense is the key and they got it!
As I'm writing this, Baltimore and New England are playing and it ain't looking good for the Patriots...Baltimore is playing pretty hot right now also.
Packers and Cardinals play later and I could care less who wins!!
Other News
I really enjoyed the Eagle Baseball Camp over the holidays, a pretty good turn out and a good time was had by those in attendance. There were a several players from Natchez High and if they progress right, they have a good chance to make some noise in 6A!
I getting a lot of pictures, mostly Deer pics as you can see below and while these are good, I would like some sports pics as well...send them in!!!!
Baseball season is just around the corner, and I love me some high school baseball! As some of ya'll know, my son is back home and looking for employment in baseball. If ya'll know of any openings, give me a hollar. He has his degree and will take the Praxis later this month.
Well, I'm fixing to sit back and watch me some football, my daughter's coming home for the day and the wife's got pork chops in the crock pot, rice and gravy, macaroni and cheese, green beans and crescent rolls in the fixing stage! Can you say Cripple Coon?????
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
