High School

I'm looking forward to Tuesday night as the Natchez High Bulldogs travel across the mighty Mississippi River to take on Vidalia High. They haven't met up in quite some time but, they got their schedules lined up and will battle it out. Vidalia is brining back most everybody from last years State runner-up team and this should be one to go down for the ages.

I generally don't watch much basketball until after the Christmas break but, I just got to see this game in Vidalia, I just hope I can get in!

I saw where ACCS beat Central Private in overtime at Bob Ulmer Gym last week, but I didn't know until later that the ACCS junior high also won by a single digit also.

College

OK, so I had to keep up with a couple games on my Iphone Saturday evening, I don't know what's going on at Rutgers but, a coach that's doing what he's doing ain't gonna be in Rutgers long! I know a few SEC teams that ought to nab him up right now!

I'll be watching USM and Tenn. State tonight in the R&L Carriers Bowl....I'm sure I'll be recalling the last channel on my remote as Favre & Co. will be playing tonight also.

Pro

I predicted the New Orleans loss, my family hated it because I gave them so many reasons...ie: Haven't won on Saturday since 1995, 14-0 pressure, defense being suspect, etc. While the defense is not that good, they do however create a lot of turnovers and mostly rely on that in a lot of games. Dallas did play their best game in uhhh, 10 years!!! But now the monkeys off their backs and maybe they can move forward and win at least a couple games in the play-offs.

I've heard a rumor that Dallas may want Norv Turner as their coach next year...please, please Santa, that's all I want for Christmas!!!!!!

The Tennessee and Miami game in overtime was a good one to watch and with the Titans winning, their chances are looking better for the play-offs.

Other News

If you have kids that play baseball, be sure and click on the Eagle Baseball Camp link on this page. If your kid is playing basketball during this time, don't worry, it will mostly be fundamentals and skills. They won't be too tired to play basketball.

I've received some good pictures from hunting season and I thank ya'll for sending them. I need more, especially some sports pics.

That's all for now, ya'll have a safe Christmas and a Happy New Year and I'll get cranked back up after the holidays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

High School

The MHSAA football championships were on Mississippi Public Broadcasting last week and they do a good job covering the games, very good camera work (I think they had 7 cameras) and the commentators were good as well. Too bad the MAIS can't get something like this. I really enjoyed watching Dylan Favre throw the football for St. Stanislaw (sp?) I couldn't believe that after all the records he holds (I think around 10), that he hasn't received any offers yet!

As I've said in years past, basketball ain't no fun for me until January, that's when the games really start to mean something every time they hit the floor. I plan on making as many games as I can then and get to see the talent that is spread around the Miss-Lou.

College

The SEC Championship game saw Alabama dismantle the #1 Florida Gators. This wasn't even much of a game, total domination by the Crimson Tide on both sides of the ball.

The better game of the night was the Texas/Nebraska game, although it was a snoozer, I was really pulling for the Cornhuskers to upset and shake up the pitiful BCS system.

So we have Alabama and Texas in the Title game and if Texas doesn't play any better than they did against Nebraska, this will be a long game for the Longhorns!!!

I've heard a lot of talk about why they won't implement a play-off system in Div. 1 football and finally somebody said something that made the most sense....in a play-off scenario, how many teams fans would "travel" for 2 or 3 weeks to get to a championship title game? Therefore, ticket sales would not be as expected and the bowls might lose money. This may be the best reason why they haven't put a play-off series into place.

Pro

How in the world did the Saints win that game?  a missed chip shot by the Skins, an interception in overtime, I couldn't believe it! In the 4th qtr. I was already cutting the eye holes out of a new paper bag in preparation for a new "Aint's" mask. But you have to give it to the Skins, they played their best game of the year and had the Saints number all day but, fate played the biggest part in this game!

Did any of ya'll watch the Vikings and the Cardinals? Peterson was stifled all night! The Vikes I saw last night looked like they couldn't beat their way out of a wet paper bag! I'm not so sure they are championship material are not, the Vikings showed their weaknesses in this game and I'm sure all of the Vikings coming opponents will be studying this game film very closely.

Other News

I've seen some great pictures of massive bucks already this year, we may see some records broke with what has already been harvested so far and the rut ain't even got here yet! The river stage at this time of year is much higher than normal and when the normal flood waters hit, well it ain't gonna be pretty! Glad I live on the high side of the ole Mississippi!

Nobody answered the main trivia question this week and one other went unanswered. Now Joey will walk around all week with his chest poking out...OK, what he has for a chest anyway!!!

Please send in pictures for "Picture of the Week"

Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll later!!!!!

Name the Alabama quarterback who finished ninth in the Heisman voting in 1983. Answer: Walter Lewis. Winner: Dave Myers.

High School

Trinity wins State! and they made it look pretty easy in the process by blasting Desoto 37-7. Congratulation to Coach King , his staff and the players for a milestone accomplishment.

I really thought the Brookhaven/Lamar game would be one for the ages but, I was wrong. BA put a good ole country boy whooping on them boys from Meridian.

So all we have left is an All-Star football game and it's full steam ahead for basketball.

College

You just have to feel for all the Ole Miss fans, after putting away LSU last week, all they had to do was beat State and they would be playing in a big bowl game.....but hey, it's Ole Miss, they have the reputation of losing after a big win and they did it again. Oh well, I'm not even sure if the Independence Bowl will want them now!

LSU got lucky....again! an overtime missed chip shot by Arkansas sealed their fate. But LSU should get the Capitol One Bowl pretty easy now.

USM just couldn't get past ECU, they had their chances but just couldn't geturdone.

Other News

I had my reunion last night, we actually had it for two years worth of classes, 1978 & 1979. Not the biggest crowd we were expecting but still a pretty good turnout for two small ACCS classes. What I couldn't believe was how old everybody looked and I still look the same as I did in high school!  Some of us just age better than others, I feel sorry for them though.

Basketball season means MORE time on the road traveling to games, and this is the time of year that you always hear about somebody hitting a deer on the highways and byways. Ya'll be extra careful out there traveling! I remember when we had a daughter playing the first game of junior high and my son playing the last game of high school boys, after those 4 to 5 hours in a gym in PoDunk, MS sometimes, it was hard driving home. much less paying attention and I almost took out a black cow one night, thank goodness it turned it head so I could see its eye shine!

That's all for now, so ya'll be safe and I'll catch ya on The Board!!!!!!

High School

Cathedral lost their play-off game but, what a comeback season they had, the offense came to life the last part of the season and they whipped out some big wins to earn their play-off spot. Congrats on a fine season!

Natchez High comes from behind late to overtake Petal in the first round play-offs. They'll play Ocean Springs this week. These Dogs are for real.

Trinity dominates Sylva Bay and is looking at Riverfield this week for the South State Championship Title.

College

LSU edges out over La. Tech last night and for all Tiger fans, they must feel pretty bad after the performance their team displayed last night. Jefferson better be ready to play next week, Lee just doesn't have it! It was good to see Steven Ridley play some last night although senior Keiland Williams got most of the carries. The Tigers travel to Ole Miss next week for thr game of the year for Miss-Lou fans.

Ole Miss hit on all cylinders this week as they made Tennessee look like a pushover! They better keep the motor running as LSU is a coming.

Miss. State lost to Alabama, just not enough offense....yet!

USM beats Marshall and becomes bowl eligible, pretty good considering some of the losses they had this year but, Fedora is turning them around.

We've got a bunch of disabled kids in town this weekend for the annual "Outdoors Without Limits" youth deer hunt, they're spread all over Adams, Franklin and Jefferson counties for the event with landowners and guides that have graciously donated their land and their time. We have several cameras in the woods with these kids and it will make a great show in an upcoming episode.

Basketball season has already started for several teams and it's already starting to heat up! Mostly the girls have been playing but, as football play-off teams are eliminated, the boys basketball teams are starting to play more.

Thanks to ya'll that have been sending in pictures, I can always use more!

Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll later!!!!!!

High School

Cathedral makes the play-offs! after a struggling offense earlier in the season, the Greenwave have turned it around and is playing as strong as their defense, should make for a great play-off run starting with Weir next Friday night.

Natchez High had to win and they did so in beating up on Hattiesburg, they play Ocean Springs next Friday night.

Trinity upended Riverdale 48-13 in their quest for another State Title, it's been 3 years since they last held the trophy up and I'm betting on another!

College

Ole Miss takes an easy one from Northern Arizona 38-14.

Alabama topples LSU 24-15 but, the big highlight for Miss-Lou fans was Stephen Ridley entering the game after Charles Scott leaves with a broken collarbone and scores on his first touch of the ball. He hit the hole and nothing was there, so just like in high school, he bounces off and turns it outside and goes in for the score with a nice little stiff arm to hold off the defender. Did ya'll hear me yell?

Other News

The Natchez Children's Home Celebrity Golf Tournament was held this weekend at Beau Pre' C.C. and the weather was beautiful for the event, plenty of celebrities were on hand and the tournament was a great success. I played with MLB umpire Joe West, who was just calling from behind the plate during game 6 of the World Series. Joe has a hundred stories and I think we heard most of them, he was a lot of fun to play with and he's a pretty goof golfer as well. I'll share one here.....He said he had just flown back home and was in his car driving home and wasn't paying attention and hit a car in front of him, so he was sitting there and the guy in the car in front of him that he hit got out and came back to his car, well the guy was a midget, the guy looked at Joe and said, "I'm not happy" and Joe responded, "Well which one are you then?"

Our annual "Outdoors Without Limits" deer hunt is this coming weekend and we have several kids coming in that are already lined up with landowners for the event. We have several guides that will be filming and we're hoping to get these kids a dream come true for them.

Play-offs are under way and I urge everyone to watch the roads as they travel, deer are out and they are nocturnal creatures, so please be on the lookout!

The Picture of the Week is suppose to be around 320 inches...insane!

That's all for this week, see ya'll somewhere along the way!!!!!

High School

Adams Christian ran into a revived Centreville team last week and paid the cost, Centreville is undefeated in district play and faces Central Private this Friday.

Cathedral put Bogue Chitto away last Friday and a chance for the play-offs is still alive.

Natchez High is also eyeing the playoffs after toppling Terry.

Trinity went back and forth with Tallulah before getting ahead and staying there for the win.

Vidalia lost a heartbreaker to Bunkie as time was winding down, a long pass and it was over.

College

Ole Miss secured a win over Arkansas, maybe they'll start playing like last year from here on out.

Miss. State played one heck of a game against #1 Florida but, going for the fake punt deep in their own field proved to be the turning point for the Gators as they started tacking points on from there.

LSU's offense looked better this week, even Jefferson threw some passes that he normally wouldn't dare attempt, I guess he's putting more trust in his highly touted receivers.

Alabama may be number 2 but, if their offense doesn't get any better, that defense will get tired faster and they won't be able to hang with a "Sho nuff" team!

Pro

Yesterday while watching the Saints play, I had my bag out and even had it on my head, not pulled down all the way but, it was there! What a comeback by the Black and Gold, unreal, not like the Saints of old. One thing scares me though, remember when the Colts had all those wins? and lost in the play-offs?

Yeah my Chargers won, I think Norv was sick and had to stay home and of course it was KC they smashed.

The Cards beat the Giants...hahahaha...go Eli!!!!

The Vikings lost because their offensive coordinator is as stupid as Miss. State's, 1 yd. line and 2 passes!!!!!

Other News

I was out of town last week, so that's the reason I didn't have anything on here. I'll be leaving again this week but not until Tuesday or Wednesday.

We filmed a Kayak fishing show down in Grand Isle for an upcoming episode and all I can tell you is this, this will be the only Kayak show with me paddling, going with the wind behind me and stopping every 100 yards ore so to anchor down and fish was pretty fun. Rowing back 2 miles into the wind and not stopping was pure torture!!!!

Joey would have had two unanswered trivia questions but, the extra week got them all answered, also his weekly news is updated today from last week and has a great story about Natchez's very own Allen Brown.

I need pictures!!!! from your favorite football team and hunting pictures.

That's all for this week, see ya'll down the road!!!!!!

Name the former First Lady who is an honorary member of the LPGA Hall of Fame. Answer:

High School

Central Private was just too much for ACCS to handle, or should I say Bobby Muse was too much as he accounted for all of CP's touch downs. The Rebels scored three times but it was just not enough as Muse scored 5 times.

Cathedral gets their first win of the season over West Lincoln. The Green Wave offense put up some numbers thanks to a strong running game behind some great blocking.

Natchez High couldn't get it going against Brandon and it didn't help that star QB Jevon Washington was injured in the game. After knocking off Oak Grove last week, it's always tough to play up the next week in a game the Dogs should have won...in my opinion.

Trinity loses it second game of the year and in two weeks in a row. But the Saints played a highly ranked Brookhaven Academy team that so far is undefeated this year. The battle was tough as lead changes went back and forth all night. The Saints had a chance to take this one late but just couldn't convert.

Vidalia traveled to Slidell, LA to take on Pearl River, PR has one of the better backs in the State and the Vikings got to see him first hand. The Viking fell in the contest and are looking for another win this week.

College

Jevan Sneed needs to ride the pine for the Rebels as his production this year is just dang pitiful. The defense played good against Alabama even though they were on the field for most of the game. I know Houston Nutt has SOMEBODY that can give it a whirl!!!

And speaking of QB's, LSU needs to try their hand at the same position, Jefferson just ain't cutting it, he only wants to throw to one receiver (on designated plays) and if he ain't open, he ain't throwing! and it don't matter if another receiver is wide open because he can't read the field! I say put Shepard in and let him do his thing. Would someone tell me who's calling the offensive plays? Miles is holding a big piece of paper when they're on offense, surely a college lineman ( Les Miles) isn't doing this, is he? If it's the new OC, fire him now!

Miss. State hung with the high powered offense and Houston last week, well for a while anyway.

USM had the game in the bag and blew it last week against Louisville.

Pro

Peyton Manning lit it up again last night on Sunday Night Football, he completely dismantled the Titans.

Little brother Eli had a pretty good game also as they upended Oakland.

The Denver Broncos were wearing the ugliest uniforms ever made yesterday but it didn't make a difference as they beat the Patriots in overtime with a field goal to stay undefeated.

The Vikings smashed the Rams and Favre put up great numbers again, 18-24 for 232 yds. and a score.

Other News

The U.S. Team won the Presidents Cup again! These outsiders are going to quit coming as they've never won yet!

K.G. Watkins won the Senior Golf Championship held at Duncan Park G.C. this weekend with a one shot victory over Greg Brooking. Fran Farmer won the ladies division while George Hude won the Super Seniors.

I went over to Hattiesburg to watch a Fall baseball game between Meridian C.C. and Pearl River C.C. last Friday evening, MCC gave up three runs in the first innings and a solo blast in the third and were coming back with the score at 4-3, but mother nature struck and struck hard! The wind was blowing empty trash cans around like paper cups and with sideways rain, the game was called. Pearl River has a very good team and should win it all this coming year in Div. II.

What's the deal? Joey keeps stumping ya'll with his trivia and ya'll know how much he enjoys that! I'm telling ya'll, he brags about it...he even writes columns about it! Don't let him get away with this!!!!

That's all I got for this week, enjoy the rain this week and be careful traveling....Later!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is the oldest nickname for a professional sports franchise in America?
Answer: Phillies. Winner: Joey Martin.

High School

I went to the ACCS/Riverdale game last Friday night and the Rebels had their way, it was homecoming and I'm sure the dance was just as fun as the game was for them.

Cathedral doesn't get blown out as their defense is pretty dang good. Mt. Olive only has one Ducksworth and no McNairs!

Natchez High gets by #4 Oak Grove for their first district win of the season.

Trinity got upended by River Oaks, a little more physical than the Saints thought.

Vidalia gets their first win of the year over Buckeye.

College

Ole Miss looked a little better, but not much better over Vandy. Alabama rolls in next and the Rebs better bring it up a notch or two.

LSU looked horrible and have looked that way all year but, they find a way to keep putting up "W's" and that's what counts....Florida is next, they may have a chance if Tebow is out.

Miss. State got whipped by Ga. Tech, a tough loss last week may have hurt them.

USM lost last Thursday night, hopefully they'll be back on track.

Pro

The Saints are still undefeated and the Jets are not! That's all I'm going to say, I'm still waiting on the Saints of old.

Everybody's waiting on the much anticipated Monday night game as the Vikings host the Packers....I'll be tuned in!

Gale Sayers led the nation in rushing in 1962. Who was second? Answer:
Willie Brown of Southern Cal. Winner: Joey Martin.

High School

ACCS finally ran into the ole buzz saw last Friday night in a tough AAA Parklane team. But don't count the Rebels out just yet, they have a few more wins on the horizon.

Cathedral's defense is their strength but Sebastopol had to much offense. Game experience is helping and hopefully they will improve more.

Natchez High got blistered by defending State Champs Meridian, I still can't believe they got shup out though.

Trinity gets by Central Private in a score that was much closer for most of the game but, a win is a win.

Vidalia has struggled and last week was a good chance for a "W" but the Avoyelles edged them out in a squeaker.

College

Anybody that was born in the State of Mississippi was embarrassed last Thursday night as the #4 Rebels went down to S. Carolina, the offense looked bad and the QB was worse. I'm an SEC fan and I've said this before, I'm pulling for my in state teams first and I was ashamed last Thursday night.

LSU barely got by Miss. State but the Dogs played really well, I have a legitimate argument when State had the ball at the one yard line though but, hindsight is always 20-20. Remember that State has the Meridian QB that lit up last year, he's redshirted I'm sure and they picked up some good receivers. Give Mullen some time and we could see air attacks like he's done at Florida.

USM lost to Kansas but, it was #20 Kansas....Fedora is a great coach and he has inspired the Eagles to be and play better.

Pro

The Saints are really scaring me now, they look too good, oh how I'm trying not to get caught up in this because I know what will happen....and yes, the bag is close by!

My Chargers won, thank goodness it wasn't close enough for Norv to screw it up!

I don't care what anybody has to say about Brett Farve, the dude can still play, that last pass may have had to some luck behind it but, it was dead on the money! I can't wait til next Monday night for the match-up with Green Bay.

Other News

Two trivia questions went unanswered, please don't give Joey the satisfaction.

I played in the annual Beau Pre' Cup Matches this past weekend. I was on Team St. Andrews. After Saturdays play which was 18 holes of Best Ball and then 18 holes of Alternate Shot, We had a one point lead over Team Carnoustie. But on Sunday in the singles matches, Team Carnoustie rallied to win the event. For the record though, I went undefeated in all of my matches.

Archery season begins this Thursday and I urge all hunters to remember safety first! and this counts for looking for safety on the ground as snakes are still out. But I wish everyone a successful season.

Please send in some of your sports pictures for the Picture of the Week down below. I also need pictures for the Outdoors section.

The Friday night updates is working great and I thank ya'll for the updates, if anyone wants to join in and keep up every Friday night, just e-mail me your name and cell number.

Being out of town for last Friday nights games wasn't too bad as I had several people giving me updates and in turn, I passed them back via text messaging. This has been working great, just send me you name or any name you want with your cell number and you will be added into the MissLouSports.Com Friday night mix.

Nobody from ACCS, Cathedral, Natchez High or Vidalia give me updates, this was hard last Friday night, all I had was Trinity. C'mon people, work with me here!

ACCS sitting at 3-1 on the season and could easily be 4-0, best start for the Rebels in a long time, but the ole schedule ain't fixing to get any easier for the Rebs as the season progresses.

Cathedral seems to be pretty good on defense as they've held some pretty good teams to lower than normal scores, the offense needs to start clicking for the Greenwave to succeed.

Natchez High has taken some bumps but it's for the better of the team, the are competitive in every ball game so far and will only get better.

Trinity is still mopping the floor in Class A this year, nobody figured any different but, as long as they stay focused and maintain the goal for the "Ship", they'll be OK.

Vidalia has suffered this year, they played Ferriday pretty dang good with all things considered, the asst. coaches had alot to fall on them with Coach Faircloth not on the sidelines.

So I had the LSU game on the TV and noticed at the bottom of the screen that there other games upcoming and it listed where to watch them....I never heard of ESPN 360, well I'd heard of it but didn't pay much attention until I found out that Ole Miss was playing on there, so I looked it up on the internet and found out it's a internet TV version, I downloaded the software from their site and got the game, and it ain't to bad of quality either so.....I had both those games going plus I could switch over during LSU commercials and see what Miss. State was doing, I was a busy little boy!

Miss. State is better, just give Mullen a little time and I think we'll see a much different team.

LSU in my opinion isn't much better than last year, they've got some kinks to work out and hopefully before the real teams come along.

Ole Miss seems to be getting better, the inexperienced lineman that had to step up are gaining confidence but, Sneed better watch those high flying passes, against better teams, those will be picks!

How about ole USM? I was listening to them on the radio coming home Saturday and they were trying their best to give this game away in the first half. Fedora has these boys jumping through hoops for him and don't be surprised to see them go a long way this year.

Pro

The Philly game for the Saints was one that many were worried about, but with McNabb out, it made things easier. Drew Brees is a freak of nature! I agree with alot of ya'll, trade Bush off and get some defensive players.

My Bolts played their hearts out and even Rivers had a fantastic game throwing well over 400 yds. But Norv screwed it up as he called a dive play on a 4th and two. Thanks Norv, you're my hero!

Other News

The time away was alot of fun but, I'm glad to be home. I don't think I'll need any seafood for at least a couple of weeks. I played some nice golf courses down there in between the rainfalls and i even went to the beach once! Of course Lisa went every day all day long but, I ain't a beach person....but the time I went, I waded out about 50 yards and the waves kept crashing down on me every 3 to 5 seconds and it was like a workout! and since some of ya'll know how much I like working out.....I was gone in about 2 minutes, grabbed my towel and headed to the room!

I'm not getting alot of response for the pictures I've been asking for to post down below, please send me some pictures!!!!

For those of ya'll that haven't gotten your shirts from winning the trivia, hang on, I'm getting a whole new batch in soon.

Anybody interested in making some extra cash? Give me a call or drop me an email, this is fantastic and fun!!!!!

That's all for this week, ya'll have a good'un!!!!!

High School

I watched the Adams Christian/Amite School Center game last Friday night and it was good to see the Rebels offense clicking again. I was very impressed with the hands of receiver Lee Swinny, he caught some passes that in my opinion, if had missed them, it would have been understandable but he hauled them in anyway. Too bad he doesn't weight 180 or 190 lbs or he'd be looked at seriously. Coach Paul Hayles told me later that Lee participated at the Manning Camp and was pulled aside to run patterns for the College guys because he ran patterns the way they were suppose to be run. Also, quarterback Kent Yates has a very good arm. The Rebels win win some games this year and they look to be re-building a football program once again on the north side of Natchez.

I finally found a good way to get scores out, if you email me your name and cell phone number anytime this week, I'll enter you in my phone and I'll send you updates as I receive them. I had several people sending me scores and updates and it was easy for me to forward them back to everybody. Of course you'll get your own update back but, that's the way it works best for me anyway. So ya'll email me this week and I'll get ya'll loaded on my phone, I don't care if you send me your "Bulletin Board" name or whatever because I'll be listing everyone under MissLouSports.....thanks!

College

Here are my takes on some college football games that I watched this weekend.............

The Miss. State and Jackson State game was just what the Bulldogs needed, a team they could push around and look good against and help build their confidence. Only problem is that they can't play them every week!

The Alabama and Va. Tech game was fun to watch for awhile although the Alabama offense was sluggish at best. Alabama finally got it going late and put them away easily and I think they'll get better offensively as the year progresses.

LSU played Washington, who was a big "O" fer last year, although Washington didn't look like an "O" fer team or LSU is that bad because I was not impressed with the Tigers offensively or defensively in this ballgame. I know it's early in the season but I really thought this was going to be one sided the entire game. LSU better find some ways to make their defense work or it's going to be a very long season in Tiger Town.

Ole Miss played very poorly against Memphis, Jevon Snead looked even worse, he sailed passes over receivers and it seemed he must have had his break out year last year! The Rebels defensive line is very far from the #4 ranked line of last year, Memphis blew through their line way too easily early in the game. The Rebels settled down in the second half and made some adjustments and even Snead looked better. Maybe we'll just call it first game jitters in this contest.

Joey had one question that wasn't answered last week, so he didn't get skunked for the first time this season. Don't let him get way with this!!!!!

I need ya'lls pictures for Picture of the Week, did ya'll see what I had to use this week?

Dove season opened up last Saturday and I only talked to one person that shared his hunt with me, Adrian Sandel said they had a few birds fly over on his place south of Natchez and they almost got their limits. I'm hoping to get over to Glasscock Island this week and see if I can snag me a limit.

I forgot to tell ya'll about my Redneck Adventure last week, we went to Lake Washington just south of Greenville, MS with the GrabUOne outfitters. They catch water snakes by hand, yeah you read that right...by hand! there were five guys that waded around the cypress trees looking for snakes hanging on tree limbs or on cypress knees sticking out of the water, then they sneak up on them and snag them up, of couse when they catch them, they use the "patented swing" to keep them from biting them....the patent ain't too good as every one of them got bitten at 3 or 4 times apiece. They have a couple of videos they sell and you can se some of their stuff at www.grabuone.com .....and they call ME crazy!

I hope everyone has a great Labor Day, ya'll be careful and I'll catch ya'll later!

ACCS was figured to win against Hillcrest, at least that was a majority thought but, turnovers will make the best of teams lose. Hopefully the Rebels will rebound this week.

Cathedral lost to Loyd Star but, that was expected by some but, they held them the first half to just 14 pts., not bad for a first game. I'm thinking the Greenwave will surprise some folks this year.

Natchez High rolls by Wilkinson County and that was pretty much expected also. The Bulldog passing game hasn't showed up to the expectations that are sure to come, when it does.....watch out!

Trinity looked like they were going to blow ERA out of the water but, after two quick scores, the Saints had them a cat backed into a corner! The cat lowered its back and the Saints came out on top of this contest.

I missed the Vidalia Jamboree as I'm leaving in the morning to film so I figured I'd better stay at home tonight.

College

So much hype heading into this season, one thing that has changed this year....ESPN has a contract with the SEC and NOW they're talking good about the SEC, funny how money does that to people! The SEC is so strong this year that it sets up for a weak scheduled team to possibly play in the National Title game. The SEC is going to be rough enough just playing each other. I'm not taking anything away from the Big 12 but, while their offenses are fun to watch, their defenses are horrible. That's a proven fact! (see last years matchups)

Bragging rights are fun and if you're on the other side of that fun, in my opinion....sorry!!! I don't care what your team did 2, 3,4 or 20 years ago, the advantage and the rights go to the team that won last and those bragging rights last exactly one year......unless your team loses again, then we restart the whole process. I love SEC football, while I'll pull for Mississippi teams (I'm a native of MS) I will pull for LSU next since they are so close to us here in Natchez but, Ole Miss has those bragging rights now so, everybody that lost, take it tlike a man until the tides turn.

Pro

The Saints looked explosive on TV today, really kind of scary! But I'm not going out onto any limbs here!

My Bolts are playing as I type this page, they scored on their first possession and looked good doing so but, their coach is a complete idiot and had NEVER won! I can't figure it out. Vincent Jackson is a weapon that many will have problems with this year, that is if the coach calls plays to him...you never know?

Other News

I writing this page early this week as I'm heading out of town in the morning for Lake Washington, I don't know if ya'll have seen those guys that hand grab water snakes or not but, we're headed that way in the morning to film a show with them. We'll be back sometimes Monday evening as we may be filming for 2 days to make sure we get enough footage.

If you've never played Beau Pre' C.C., now is the time, the course is in the best shape it's ever been in and there's always specials rates or opportunities to join at discounted rates. Come out and play as my guest, whether I'm there or not. But if you do, give me a call and we'll get a round in.

That's all for this week, ya'll be careful driving to your games and I'll catch ya later!!!!!

ACCS wins and is 1-0, does anybody remember the last time they started out 1-0? I hope things are turning the corner for the Rebels and it looks like they could win the next few as well. The big thing that makes me feel good about this years team is that they were down at halftime against Cenla and didn't get down, they over came the situation and bounced back for the win. Congrats Rebels.

Natchez High put on a show Friday night and with a tribute to fallen player #59 Larry Brown, the Bulldogs put up 59 pts. in his memory. With a second or two left in the game, coach Lance Reed calls a timeout and puts the first team back in and scores a TD and then makes the two pt. conversion for a total of 59. Devon Washington (Jr.)  scores 5 TD's on the night!

Trinity runs all over Prairie View, as was expected....R.J Fleming showed the Saint faithful that he is one of the best players to ever come out of Trinity. He scored from positions last Friday night.

This Weeks Games

ACCS host Hillcrest

Cathedral host Loyd Star

Natchez High at Wilkinson County

Trinity host East Rankin

Vidalia hosting their annual Jamboree

The Saints win another, this is really scaring me, I've seen this before and I know that most of these games are really just guys playing that are trying to make the roster. My bag is close by and I'm not putting it away just yet!

Other News

I played in the annual Member-Guest golf tournament out at Beau Pre' C.C. this weekend, it's still called the Member-Guest but it doesn't have to be, anybody can play as was the case with this years winning team of Dr. Jeff Anderson and Tom Mathews. They blistered the course and won easily with a two day total of 12 under par. Yours truly didn't place in the first flight with a two day total of one over. Beau Pre' C.C. is is great shape, get out there and play a round.

I guess I'll be running the roads next Friday night as we have 3 games Friday night at home. After last weeks win at #2 Franklin County, I'm anxious to see how Cathedral fairs with them. Cathedral lost a lot of seniors last year that saw most of the action but, there are several players that got some time last year and hopefully that experience will pay off this year.

Ya'll just killed Joey last week, that was a pretty bad upset as the answers were answered faster than I got them posted!

I haven't received any pictures for "Picture of the Week" there are prizes awaded!

That's all for this week, ya'll have a great week!!!!!

High School

Well it's that time of year again and football has already started in the form of Jamborees around the Miss-Lou. I was out of town this past weekend and missed every one of them! But I read about several teams and this year looks to be promising in high school football. There are several changes in the new MAIS with schools changing districts and or moving up or down in classes. It will open a few doors for some and cause havoc for others but, that's high school football! On the public side of high schools, I haven't heard about many changes other than some having new opponents to play on their schedules. As for the direct Miss-Lou around here, there are a couple players that will be making some noise this year. Natchez High's QB Jevon Washington (Jr.) will be lighting the fields up this year through the air as his past experiences will help him put up some big numbers this year. Trinity's R.J. Fleming (Sr.) is a threat at every position, this kid has the talent to lead the Saints to another State Title. There are several outstanding athletes around the Miss-Lou and as I get out and see them in action, I'll report them right here. Best of luck to everybody and I'll catch ya'll at a game somewhere.

College

The SEC is going to be fun to watch this year as there are several teams that are loaded for bear (and that was not a pun directed at Bama) Ole Miss is returning a nucleus of outstanding players but, can they handle the pressure? LSU with the its top ranked recruiting the last few years should be a force to deal with but, can ole Less make the right decisions under pressure? Miss. State has a new leader but, can he revitalize a team that hasn't performed well in the past? USM has some weapons returning that will cause a kink in C-USA but, can Fedora keep them on track? These are all things that will unfold as the season progresses.

Pro

The Saints looked pretty good the other night but, I think we've all seen them look good early before so, I hope I don't have to pull my bag out this year!

Michael Vick says he's sorry for abusing them dogs and he's even a spokesman for the Humane Society now, will he be the key in Philly's offense?

The Colts have a new coach, I wonder if Peyton is teaching him the offense?

Last but not least...My Bolts, they still produce each year and even without a coach! A pretty weak division as usual, maybe they can advance a little better this year.

My News

Can ya'll believe that this is the 10th year for MissLouSports.Com? What started out as a web page for Natchez and Vidalia turned out to cover the entire states of Mississippi and Louisiana! I hope we can reach another 10 years, it's been fun and it's been crazy. Ya'll wouldn't believe some of the phone calls and e-mails I've received over the years, I've taken a lot of heat and I've had many more praises that have kept me doing this year after year. The good outweighs the bad!

I sat in my recliner all evening yesterday and watched history being made, Tiger Woods, who never lost a 54 hole lead in a major golf tournament, folded like a cheap lawn chair yesterday at the PGA. Y.E. Yang????? who? what? huh? Well he impressed me, it looked like Tiger didn't take some chances that he could have taken, hoping that Yang would probably choke under the major event pressure but, Yang never wobbled except for the 3 putt on 17 but, that didn't matter after Tiger had already bogeyed. We may be seeing more from Yang as he played a solid round under great pressure.

I need ya'lls help with the "Where Are They Now" section, look over the list and if some bodies not there, let me know. Also, if some bodies not playing anymore, I need to remove them.

I've wiped the Outdoors Section clean and started over for this year, send me those pictures and info so we can post them.

I've been out some last week passing out rate cards for advertising on MissLouSports.Com, I'm planning on doing several things that will award prizes including starting up a Scholarship program for  deserving athletes. You'll notice these as I add them this year. I need your help, promote your business right here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There's link to view the advertising rates above.

Manic Monday Trivia has started back and is open for everyone since we have a new school year. You can only win the main question once but, you can answer the others every week. Don't let Joey stump ya'll, get them all, it drives him crazy! or maybe I should say crazier!!!!

I've always had a weekly sports quote, this year I will allow ya'll to send in your favorite sports quote and I'll give you the recognition under the quote.

We have several people that contribute to the MissLouSports.Com Bulletin Board and without ya'll, it wouldn't be any fun, so thanks for everything ya'll do every week. I've read where some of ya'll don't like the new format of registering but, let me say this.....I'm the only person that has the information and I'm not ratting anybody out, it's just so I can remove posters that just post dribble that has nothing to do with sports. I love the rivalry, the arguments, the debates and the smack talk. As long as it's kept clean! We have close to 500 people that are registered with new ones coming in every day. I know that as football season rolls on, we will have more post with great information being reported. We had close to 600 visits Sunday!

I look forward to another great year and I intend to make this the place to visit to get all the scores and information each week.

Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll on the gridiron!!!!!!!!!!

I've been out a couple of weeks so, here's my update.........

Congrats to Vidalia on a season that most thought would be a re-building year, they played a couple of post season games and proved that next year, they will be a force to reckon with! Only losing one senior and with some quality players moving up, it will be fun to watch them next year.

I don't know a lot about North MPSA baseball but, I was sure that Central Private would be creaming somebody! But Copiah spoiled that and I was sure that anybody that could beat CP in a three games series would SURELY win the State Title...wrong again! Lee Academy proved to be the best team in Class AA baseball. No excuses, especially in a three games series this late in the year. Congrats to Lee.

I was also surprised to see Hillcrest lose to Mag. Hts., All the talk earlier in the year about Hillcrest was just that! Now I know that Hillcrest has a great reputation in baseball but sometimes the underdog will play the role of spoiler!

Joey's News is updated from last week, be sure to check out his link above.

Meridian C.C. lost out in Super Regional's in Missouri last weekend. Meridians only hope would have been a Corey Dickerson 2 run shot that would have extended MCC's play but, it was robbed by the outfielder as it was clearing the fence.

I went to Texas last week to hunt Turkeys, the last morning I shot one with my bow, it had a 9-1/2" beard and 1" spurs. While I was there, I tag teamed a wild hog with Bubba Kaiser, me with my bow and Bubba with a cross bow. I shot a hog with a rifle, another with my bow. I got a raccoon with a cross bow and a rattle snake with my shotgun. We also caught a bunch of Bass in a pond that I figured didn't even have a fish in it! Around 7 or 8 that went 5 lbs. or better. A great trip and a lot of fun!

This will be the last update until school starts back. But "The Board" will still be open for any updates for ya'll to give or any I may have.

Ya'll have a great summer and I'll get this page cranked back up when school starts back!!!!!!!!!!!

I forgot to tell ya'll about my big feat the weekend I left for Missouri....I played in the Feaux Pre' Cup out at Beau Pre' C.C. and I made a hole in one on hole #7, I used a gap wedge and it tokk one bounce and fell in the hole. Believe me when I tell you, don't make a hole in one on a day of a tournament...it's expensive!!!

The Meridian C.C. baseball team is competing in the Regional Tournament in Baton Rouge, they beat BRCC on Saturday and later that evening, they beat Delgado, Delgado beat BRCC and MCC was scheduled to play Delgado today but.......RAIN!!!!!!!!!! So they'll play Monday at noon and if MCC loses, the second game will follow. I'll be there to cheer MCC forward! If MCC wins, they travel to Missouri on May 15th, 16th and 17th for a 3 team tournament and the winner of that series will play in the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, CO.

LSU has the edge on Ole Miss in the baseball world but, with each having teo sets of series left...anything can happen. Both teams are making the SEC look good and in my book, that's what counts!

I've been gone this past week so I'm not up on all the latest sporting news, other than what I've read on The Board.

Baseball - ACCS, Cathedral and Natchez High are finished, all had great seasons and should be proud of their accomplishments this year.

Trinity is still in the hunt and they play Monday, Tuesday and Thursday against Copiah Academy....The Saints will have to click on all cylinders to get through the Colonels!

Vidalia is in the play-offs, who, where and when is the big question! Gotta love those Louisiana politics!!!!

Other Stuff

I just got back from Powersville, Missouri and although I didn't get a bird, 3 others with us did. The best was a 26 lb'er with a 10-3/4" beard and 1-3/8" spurs. All of the birds harvested were over 20 lbs. They look like ostriches! The closest I had a bird was probably around 50 yards but he was behind some brush and beneath a hill. For some reason, he just wouldn't come out. Our first morning I had 10 birds in a tree roosted above me about 75 yards away, they all landed in front of me and two more walked in from behind me, all were Jakes or hens, that was my best morning!

Remember how I told ya'll about my truck hitting a tree a few weeks back? Well, on my way to Missouri, I picked up a friend in Grenada and almost made it to Hernando, it was raining and all of a sudden my truck started hydroplaning, I went left, I went right and then I went more right and took out Mile Marker 286 on my passenger door, it knocked out that glass, the mirror on that side came through the truck and knock out the glass on MY side and the top of the sign whipped down and knocked out the glass on my moon roof. We sustained small glass cuts but we couldn't continue in my truck. So my buddy called his wife and she brought his truck and took mine back to Grenada. What else could we do but go hunting?

That's all I have for this week, ya'll have a great week and be careful traveling to the ball games...especially if it's raining!!!!!!

A big series happened last week, the ACCS baseball team took 2 of 3 from Trinity and now have the task of taking 2 of 3 in their next conference games to claim the district title. I'm pretty sure that either way, we'll see both Natchez schools in the play-offs for sure now.

Cathedral just keeps them rolling and they're a lock to propel in the play-offs.

Natchez High has play-offs in their future, they've already won enough to advance.

Vidalia, I'm pretty sure, is in first place in their district. They've been pitching by committee as of lately and if they can find the right rotation, things could look good for the Vikes.

Other Stuff

Does anybody think that Kenny Perry has slept yet? He blew a 2 shot lead with 2 holes to play in THE MASTERS!!!!!!!!!!! He did make it to a play-off with Chad Campbell and eventual winner Angel Cabrera, but he may go down as one of the biggest choke artist, but not as bad as Greg Norman. I'm betting he threw up, I almost did! I really wanted to see him win, he's such a nice guy on TV and his chances are all but gone now, I don't think he could take another Major blow like this again. But I hope I'm wrong....... Oh yeah, Tiger finished tied for 6th.

Former Terry H.S., Meridian C.C. and Mississippi Braves 3rd baseman Van Pope is now playing with the Atlanta Braves AAA team located just outside Atlanta. This may be his last chance to prove himself and although he is already one the organizations best glove and arm, he needs his bat to start doing some speaking for him.

Sorry I didn't update last week but I had to go to Troy, Alabama for a meeting with The Pursuit Channel, but since I was going, I took my shot gun and turkey stuff to try and get me a bird at a friends place there. Well as you remember, it was cold and blistering winds kept me inside for the most part. We did manage to get some fishing in though and caught some pretty nice Bass. We tried to catch a few perch but, they just wouldn't cooperate!

Ya'll went and jumped on ole Joey's Trivia questions quick last week and when I got his newest batch for this week, there was a caption in the subject line that read," I hope they hurt their heads looking these up" I thought that was just a little cocky, I wouldn't let him get away with that if I was ya'll. I mean, who does he think he is? some kind of sports guy or something?

I know it's not much but, that's all I have for this week. Ya'll have a good'un!!!!

Baseball games are starting to mean something, it's that time of the season that play-off hopes are made or lost. I've been seeing some scores that have puzzled me since the teams in question haven't played up to the potential that all the talk led up to. But that's why they play the games, right? Bout if you can make it to the play-offs, the MPSA and MHSAA do have a 3 game system which will at least make the series more interesting. I'm not sure what the LHSAA is even doing anymore, I think they still have the "Lose One" go home series but I thought they were going to change that this year. Maybe Hoffpauir will explain it better in The Board.

Cathedral and Natchez High look to make the play-offs easily while the rest of the schools in the Miss-Lou will have to play a little harder to make it happen. Gelling at the right time is crucial in baseball with so many games and traveling back and forth. It's a lot to bear for a lot of the teams.

Other Stuff

Joey's Trivia had three unanswered questions! Of course there were several answers to the main question, and it seems that there were several players that wore number 99 but, you have to remember that part of guessing the trivia question involves reading Joey's mind! That's a horrible thought in itself huh?

Unless you were in a hole yesterday, we got to see that Tiger Woods is back. Tied with the lead, I watched his glare on his approach shot into number 18 and you could tell that he was fixing to do something spectacular, he hit it on the green somewhere around 20 something feet and I believe that everybody that was watching knew that he was going to make the putt, even O'Hair that he was tied with! Sure enough it went in and the crowd went ballistic. With The Masters coming up, I'm thinking yesterdays win just changed the odds in Vegas!

Sorry I didn't have an update for ya'll last week, I had a nice young man with Darton Archery in town to do some Turkey hunting with his bow, we went over to Glasscock Island and spent a few days trying to get him a bird in range for his bow shot. The second morning a bird came within 25 yards, which was a perfect distance but, the bird stayed behind just enough bushes and limbs that kept him from making the shot. It was a nice one to, probably a 3 to 4 yr old bird that would have been a nice trophy for him to take home.

We attended the Kid's Hunting For A Cure Turkey hunt close to Nashville, TN a couple weekends ago. It was a local chapter hunt that had around 36 kids involved, 12 birds were harvested with the winner being a 25 lb'er with a 10-1/2" beard and 1-1/2" spurs. It was this kids first time to ever hunt anything!!! We had a great time and helped raise a lot of money through an auction for St. Jude's.

I played in the Pilgrimage 4 Ball this past weekend out at Beau Pre' C.C., there were around 70 something teams competing in the event that took place over Saturday and Sunday. Saturday play was horrific, I played with Tom Mathews in the morning the first day and the ground was saturated, the wind was blowing 20 to 30 mph and it was cold! We had 4 bogeys and one birdie on the day for a score of 75, that put us in the 3rd flight. The next morning, I'm reading the paper and relaxing (because I had a 1pm tee time that day) when I read that I was teeing off at 9:30am (I was reading this at 8:30am) I called the clubhouse to confirm my time and was told that I teed off in an hour. Luckily my wife Lisa has seen me in a hurry before, she just sat on the bed and watched (in awe of course, because she could NEVER get ready that fast) I flew to the course and even made it in time to hit a few practice balls. We shot 2 under on Sunday and figured we'd finish 3rd or 4th but, we won! There was still enough wind that morning that I guess everybody else had trouble also. Anyway, I have a nice fat gift certificate that will last me awhile.

This coming weekend, I'll be headed to Eagle Lake, just north of Vicksburg for the annual Catfish Jugging competition. I've filmed this event the last few years and it's always an experience to remember.

I'm on call for Federal Jury Duty the ENTIRE month of April...any suggestions?

That's all for this week, ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My guarantee was solid, the Vidalia Catfish Classic was rained out, now here's my next prediction...when Hoff retires, there'll be no rain in their next tournament.

I got to watch the Cathedral vs. Vidalia game last week out at Chester Willis Field and it was a good'un for the first few innings, the Greenwave won the contest but I'm here to tell you that, Vidalia is young, only one senior on the team so, watch out, they'll be back with experienced players and they'll make another run for a title soon!

MRA took 2 of three from Hillcrest? Did I read that right? I had heard so many people talking about Hillcrest this year that I thought they were suppose to cake walk all the way to the championship games. Oh well, I guess that's why they play the games!

I read on The Board where people were discussing the best ever teams from different sports, what I didn't see were the Central Private baseball teams from somewhere around 1996 through 2000, the 2000 team had Lane Mestepey as their ace pitcher. I may be wrong on the years but, I'm pretty sure they won like 4 or 5 years straight....that's impressive!!!!

Joey's News is updated from last week, check out his link above.

Turkey season opened in Mississippi this past weekend and I urge ya'll to send me some pictures of you or your kids with their prize turkey. I haven't been yet but, I plan on going in the morning!

I spent this past weekend at the Sportsman's Show in Gonzales, LA. the weather was perfect for an outdoor show as there wasn't a lot else to do with all the rain. There was a good crowd on hand and plenty of entertainment and fantastic food. (yes, I ate my share of Drago's Crab Cakes) This is supposedly the last year the event will be held at the Lamar-Dixon Center as they are closing it down. They tried to get Ascension Parish to buy the complex for 30 million but, they turned it down. It's app. worth around 110 million.

We'll be heading out this Thursday for Smyrna, TN for the Outdoors Without Limits Turkey Hunt. There'll be app. 50 handicapped hunters at the event with hopes of bagging them a big ole bird. There'll also be an auction, entertainment, food and plenty of fellowship. To start a chapter in your area, visit www.outdoorswithoutlimits.net

That's all for this week, see ya'll somewhere down the road!!!!!!

All of the trivia was answered last week, can it happen again? Joey's betting against that!!!!!

The Vidalia Vikings boys basketball team are still rolling along and they'll play Patterson, LA in the quarter finals this Wednesday at the Cajun Dome down in Lafayette, LA. If they win this game, they'll play the winner of the Plaquemine vs. Richwood for the State Championship. Good Luck Vikes!!!!

Last week I went and watched Cathedral play Salem, it wasn't looking very good for Salem and I left after the 3rd inning with the Greenwave up by plenty....then I found out that Salem cazme back and made a game of it...oh well, I must be a good luck charm for them. Cathedral plays Vidalia today and I plan on being there. Sorry Hoff.

Vidalia baseball's Catfish Classic is this weekend and YES, there's rain in the forecast but, I'll guarantee more than a forecast, it's going to flood! My guarantee though comes from years of watching Hoff's luck run out at his own tournaments....but the catfish is always good and watching Jo Jo eat french fries is worth the price of admission by itself!

By seeing some scores of baseball games so far this year, it seems that the MPSA AAA division will be one to watch, most of the scores have been lop-sided and with everybody talking about how good Hillcrest is this year, I'm not so sure you can just give them the title yet. There should be some great matches and I hope I can make a few of them.

Other Stuff

We had a ball catching armadillo's this past weekend and a lot of money was raised for the Shriners' Childrens' Hospital. A group from Rolling Fork won the event with 10 dillers. The races were fun as always and no dillers were harmed in this event. I got up Sunday morning to head home and a fluorescent green diller ran in front of my truck, I stopped and let him go on way. He looked tired!

Joey's News is updated on his link above, I cut out early and didn't have the time to post it last week when he sent it so, check it out before Wednesday because he'll have another coming up.

That's all I have for now, ya'll have a good'un and I'll catch ya'll later!!!!!!!

MRA boys and Leake girls win the MPSA Overall Basketball Championship. Congratulations to both teams and for the hard work ya'll put in to obtain your goal.

The Natchez High Lady Bulldogs fell to Murrah 60-53 and the loss ends their season. But congrats to them on a season well played.

Vidalia boys beat Jena 67-50. They will host Crowley Tuesday night.

I watched a couple of high school games last week, my first game of the season was Cathedral as they hosted Loyd Star. What looked like a runaway soon turned back into a game again. Cathedral ace Preston Edwards threw well for his first game of the season, I hope to see him throw again when the weather's a little warmer. Kole Junkin impressed me with the bat in his hands, his first shot went to left center and somehow dropped just short but, there wasn't a doubt with his next at bat as he clobbered this one over the left field fence. Did I mention it was cold? After more games during the week and weekend, Cathedral is now 6-0 on the year.

My next game was ACCS and they hosted Copiah, not quite as cold this night. AC fell to the Colonels but a good effort which saw both teams competing without their aces on the mound. AC lost a squeker to WCCA and then took down Monterey (LHSAA) The Rebels travel to Huntington on Monday at 7pm.

Trinity played Central Private a lot better than most would have thought by a score of 8-3. Trinity blasted Silliman 17-2, Wells Middleton had a granny! TE host Centreville on Monday and will host Central Private on Tuesday for a re-match I want to see.

Vidalia baseball lost a tough one to Block 9-1. The Vikings will travel to Jena Tuesday.

I haven't seen or heard anything about Natchez High yet but, they travel to Wingfield Tuesday.

Joey's Trivia has been really fun, covering more than just the latest sport being played, there's something for every sports fan. Go ahead, give it a try and see if you can win a MissLouSports.Com T-shirt.

Meridian C.C. played in a tournament in Shreveport, LA over the weekend, they won 2 games and knocked off the #3 team in the nation in one of the wins. Their two losses came by one run, both in the last inning and leading 7 to 1 in one of those games. I talked to Christopher and he wasn't a happy camper!!!!

I went squirrel hunting last Thursday down at Glasscock Island and the guys that were there had some really good dogs. But the main reason I'm bringing this up is.....we killed a cotton mouth! So you guys getting ready for the upcoming Youth Turkey weekend, be careful, they are awake and moving faster than you would think.

I attended the Coastal Conservation Association State Convention in New Orleans, LA this weekend. They've been around for 25 years now and what a turnout they had. Great speakers, entertainment and plenty of food.

I'll be attending the Annual Armadillo Round-Up for Shriner's Children's Hospital this weekend. All dillers have to be caught alive! Then we have races. If you haven't caught this episode on Redneck Adventures, you're missing a treat. Always plenty of food and entertainment.

That's all I have for now, ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll later!!!!

I didn't get to make a game for any State Championship but, I thank ya'll for posting scores. I did get to check in for updates on games, I'll explain later.

Congratulations to MRA boys and East Rankin girls, Brookhaven Academy boys and Leake girls, CM&I boys and Riverdale girls on winning your Class titles.

Looking at the scores from most of these games, it seems there were a few barn burners! I hope to be able to get up to Jackson for the overalls and catch some of these teams play, it should be a great overall experience and I hope to meet more of ya'll.

The Natchez High Lady Bulldogs will play in the State 5A Tournament and probably play either Murrah or Horn Lake on Thursday.

Vidalia boys basketball went 28-1 on the season and won all 10 of their district games, they'll host a play-off game this Friday.

Cathedral baseball will have their season opener tonight in Natchez as they host Loyd Star.

MPSA baseball will be cranking up now as a few tournament will be played.

Other Stuff

We hosted the Annual Redneck Adventures Squirrel Hunt this past weekend and it was a blast!!! No pun intended. Entertaining Friday night were David St. Romain, he placed third on Nashville Star, he played about 30 minutes and we heard some songs that nobody else has heard yet as he's releasing his new CD. Also, we had Elvis!!!!!!!!!  his real name is Shea Arender and he's from Clinton, MS. He's won Elvis impersonator contest and let me tell ya'll, he put on a show! We had the Backroads Band from Ferriday playing the rest of the night and everyone seemed to be having  a great time. Saturday after the hunt, we had chicken quarters and fixings and Karaoke was the entertainment for the rest of the evening into the night. Outdoors Without Limits was our special guest and a silent auction was held for their benefit, the people were gracious and much money was donated for this great cause. I believe the Miss-Lou Chapter of this organization will have a banquet in April at the Vidalia Convention Center. I'll let ya'll know more when it gets closer.

The big news in golf is, Tiger's Back!!!!!!!!!!! He'll compete in his first tournament since his knee surgery as he will try to defend his title at the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championships. He's been practicing a full strength for awhile now but, Tiger wants to come back when he thinks he can dominate like he's used to. I think the Match play format will be to his advantage since he hasn't grinded it out in a while now. His competitive drive is like no ther so, don't count him out!

I hope to make it out to Chester Willis Field this evening and catch my first high school baseball game this year. Maybe I'll see some of ya'll out there.

Ya'll have a great week and be careful driving to your events!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

High School

I traveled to Copiah Academy last week for the AA South State Basketball play-offs...and I'm glad I did! The 4 games I saw were very exciting and the atmosphere was even better. I thought the referee's did a good job except in the last game of the night, BA vs Trinity, well over 30 fouls called in the game and mostly trivial fouls were what caused most of them. It was pretty much all by one particular ref who didn't call them on just one team, he spread them out pretty evenly. So I don't think anybody was favored by this one ref but, it did take away some key players from both teams that I wished I could have seen play the whole game. If I had to pick a particular player that impressed me the most, it would be Bowling Green junior Jaron Edwards, this kid can flat out play! We will see him at the next level. He's 6'3 and can play point when his time comes.

Copiah has a really nice gym, great floor, I didn't see anybody sliding! the lighting in one of the best I've ever seen. Great atmosphere for basketball.

I didn't get to watch the games on Saturday but, congrats to Bowling Green on winning the South State Title for the boys and Oak Forest for the girls.

This weeks AA State Title games will be held at Brookhaven Academy starting Tuesday. Brookhaven always has a great atmosphere and better food! Ya'll be careful traveling.

Other Stuff

I got to put many faces to screen names from The Board while at Copiah, it was good to meet all of ya'll.

I went over to Meridian C.C. for their annual Rush Hospital Classic. MCC has a ton of talent, when they realize that, they'll be tough to beat. They lost two games in the tourney but were in the thick of both losing by one run. I'm sure they gel before long, it's still early!

Redneck Adventures is hosting the annual Squirrel Hunt this weekend with plenty of entertainment including Nashville Star 2nd runner up David St. Romain, also Jerry Audley will be performing Friday night as well. Many other singers and Karaoke on Saturday evening. We'll have the show airing as soon as possible for ya'll to see.

That's all I have for this week, ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll on The Board!!!!

I can't cover high school basketball any better that the guys and gals on The Board, they have brackets, schedules, best places to eat and more! MPSA basketball North and South Tournament are fixing to get cranked up and basketball fever is spreading to the point of epidemic proportions!

I know that a lot of ya'll will be traveling at night, just because deer season is over doesn't mean they aren't still roaming around and it seems they love highways at night, so ya'll be watchful and drive safely.

Baseball season is right around the corner and teams are preparing their fields and players for the competition ahead. Mostly pre-season tournament in late February with regular games starting in March. And as always, have your blankets and heavy winter clothes ready for the season. The coldest I believe I've ever been was at a baseball game at Central Hinds when my son played. Luckily I had plenty of blankets in the truck for other people too.

Other Stuff

I went and watched Meridian C.C. play at Jones C.C. for both teams season openers. JCC only won around 6 games last year and they are the only in-state school that will play MCC this year. JCC won the first game in the 8th inning and won the second game by 1 run as well. Defensive play and errors were the downfall for MCC, I thought I was watching the Bad News Bears!!!! MCC traveled to Destin, FL this weekend and took 2 of 3 in a round robin tourney there. They'll host the Rush Hospital Classic this coming weekend and I'll be there to check out the action and see if they've re-bounded from the first games I saw. For my son's part, he coaches the pitchers and they did do well.

I talk to many people that don't read The Board but, they do come in here every week, I hope that now you will change your mind and visit The Board and see for yourself the difference that has been made. One week of registration and it came off without much of a hitch. If somebody does get by me through the process, it's easy to take them off. I love the kid's enthusiasm and the friendly banter they create but, I just don't have much tolerance for slanderous gossip or space used up by non coherent ranting. I thank ya'll for being patient with me through all of this and I hope everybody is now enjoying The Board a lot better now.

I do want to mention that Beau Pre' C.C. is offering memberships for FREE!!!! All you do is pay the monthly $210 dues plus your cart fees each time you play. Also, if you live out of town, you can pay $1,000 for the whole year. No stock to pay or initiation fees. For more info, call Theresa Burnette or Tom Bryant at 601-442-8181. The course is in great shape and there's a game you can play in every day, the more the merrier!!!!

That's all I got for this week, ya'll have a good'un!!!!

Tournament time is here, anything can and will happen. You have to play to your best abilities to keep on advancing. For some districts, this tournament means everything, what happened during the regular season is washed away. Seasons can be made or ended, It's gut check time and the best team has to be the best team during the play-offs.

Super Bowl

Great game, it looked like it going to be the Steelers going away but, The Cards fought back hard and had the lead with just a little over a couple minutes to go. Gentle Ben worked the ball down the field and he made a spectacular throw to win the game. He gets the MVP and it was well deserved. The Cards just gave up too many penalties and big plays.

Other Stuff

I installed Password Protection on The Board, I believe its going to make visiting the site more informative and cut down on the childish behavior exhibited by some of the imposters. I'll be home for a few days so I hope ya'll don't have any delays getting registered. If I get out of pocket, I'll catch up when I get back to my computer. You can still read until registration goes through for you to post.

I done told ya'll it was heating up! Basketball fever is epidemic right now, teams are gelling and basketball in now fun to watch. In boys AA down here, Trinity was holding the edge til they traveled back to Brookhaven and lost a close one for the second lost to the host team. But really, Trinity won because Brookhaven's Sidney Chaffin scored the game winner and we all know he is really a Trinity guy.

The game between Cathedral and Trinity might have been lopsided but, it was good for the community and good for the game. I hope we get to see more of these match-ups. Cathedral is young this year and they'll compete better next time. Peter Arnold does a great job with his teams, this would have been a better game last year.

Natchez High girls are looking good this year and they are preparing for the play-offs. These girls never stay down too long!

The main trivia question was not answered last week, I can't believe that, I don't have to send out a free t-shirt! Well we got a brand new bunch for this week, good luck.

In case you haven't heard, my truck is in the shop for cosmetic details, this coming after it tried to knock a tree over. I wasn't even driving, I was a passenger in the back seat over on Glasscock Island. We went out riding around last Thursday evening and we were almost back to the camp when the guy driving (an out of towner) let a curve come up on him too quick, and a freshly graded road and river silt are not the best combination for stopping. The crazy thing is, we weren't even going that fast! But it was done right, we didn't side-swipe, glance or do any kind of dodging, we hit it dead square! Now I'm not a guy that knows his different tree varieties, I mean, I know what a pine tree is and a magnolia but, the rest are just trees. Well this one was a gumball tree and I know this because every gumball that was on that tree was now on my truck! So if you don't see me driving around town for the next couple of weeks, it's because I'm incognito in a rental car.

The Super Bowl is coming this Sunday and I'm ready! I really want the Cardinals to win, I like the underdog role.

That's all for this week, ya'll have fun and be safe driving to all the ballgames!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was happy to see the big match-ups lined up for MHSAA and MPSA basketball games titled "Rumble In The South - MLK Holiday HOOPFEST" at A.E.Wood Coliseum in Clinton, MS on the campus of Mississippi College, this is the 2nd annual event which will also have a school from Texas and one from Tennessee involved.  Check out the website at: www.rumbleinthesouth.com for all of the tournament info and schedules.

Other good local games will see MPSA Trinity take on MHSAA Cathedral. I hope we see more of these locally as most of these kids grew up playing together or against each other as younger kids and the match-ups have long been needed.

Pros

What a shocker, the Cardinals win the National League Championship over the Eagles 32-25! In the American League Championship, the Steelers upend the Ravens 23-14. This will be the first ever Super Bowl appearance for the Cardinals ever!!!! So you Saints fans may have a chance one year. Anything can happen?

I think I'll have to pull for the Cardinals in this contest, the Steelers do have an awesome defense and I think think the Cards will be the underdog but, they'll be getting my support.

I've been gone since last Wednesday, we attended the "Outdoors Without Limits" Deer Hunt in Troy, Alabama. There were 104 handicapped participants in the event and many of the local landowners donated their land and their time for this to happen. We had over 10 camera's in the woods to catch these special moments on film. We also had others that shared their footage with us. Many Deer were harvested for some of these people for the first time, and without the support from all the volunteers that helped, it wouldn't have ever been possible for most of them. If you would like to get involved in this great organization, visit their website at: www.outdoorswithoutlimits.org they are looking for people to set up chapters in their own hometowns, it's fun, they make it easy and it's personally rewarding as well for you as it is for those participating.

Joey's News from last week is updated.

That's all I have for now, ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll on The Board !!!!!!!!!

I made my first basketball of the year as I watched Trinity host Brookhaven over the Holidays. The girls game had plenty of action but Trinity was without their point guard, I know this makes a difference but Brookhaven came ready to play in this contest. Brookhaven has a tall girl that in my opinion should get the ball every play. Yeah, she's that tall!

In the boys game, Brookhaven and Trinity hung close but as the game moved on, Brookhaven kept inching ahead, enough so that I figured after 3 quarters and a Brookhaven lead of 8 or so pts., the ole stall ball might could happen and I decided it was a good time to depart the gym.

Basketball in humble opinion, is just now getting to start. Now games are starting to mean something and key match-ups are in order. I'll get out and see more action now.

Bowl Wrap-Up

USM played the second half of the regular season like a team on a mission and it paid off as they got a Bowl game and faced a tough Troy team that gave LSU everything they wanted and then some during the regular season. Although I thought Troy had the better team as I watched the game, the Eagles just kept on churning out points and came away with the victory. They should be fun to watch next year.

Ole Miss made the Big 12 look like a Pee Wee football team, they showed them what defense and a solid offense can do to a hyped up offense and team. The Rebels finished just outside of the Top Ten but gained a lot of respective around the country.

LSU was prepared for Georgia Tech, a game that most thought would be a victory for Tech with their explosive triple option offense. But the Tigers shut it down and and they look forward to being back among the best next season.

Alabama disappointed many SEC fans as Utah strolled in and dismantled the thundering elephants and kept their undefeated season intact. As much of an SEC fan I am, Utah has a valid argument about their final season ranking.

The BCS Championship game was everything it was billed up to be, Oklahoma played better defense than I thought they would and kept Florida's' offense  in check for quite awhile, but Florida held Oklahoma's high powered offense as well and I believe the biggest difference or the game changer for Florida was when Tim Tebow took the game into his own hands for the most part. Big third down runs by Tebow made the difference in this contest and it earned them the BCS crown.

Pro Play-Offs

Awwhhh weee, Little Eli Manning couldn't get lucky this year, I really hate that! I don't know if I'll sleep good for a week!!!! (please note a lot of sarcasm)

At least Peyton will get to play another week...oh wait, his team lost last week! oh dang it....hahahaha

The Cardinals will play another week, I didn't expect that! The Ravens advance also, they could be the team to beat!

I'm hoping that the only good thing that will come out for the Chargers after their loss to Pittsburgh, is that they'll fire Norv Turner! The Steelers just manhandled the Bolts offensive line, I never saw a decent adjustment. The Bolts need linemen, on both sides of the ball. Couple this with a new coach and we could have a chance next year.

Conference Championship games for next week will see the "battle of the birds" as the Cardinals host the Eagles at 3pm on Fox for the AFC Crown and then the Steelers host the Ravens at 6:30pm on CBS for the NFC Crown.

Super Bowl Sunday is Feb. 1st in Tampa, FL at Raymond James Stadium on NBC and kick-off is 6pm.

I hope everybody had a great holiday season, and if you're not Jewish, I hope Santa brought you what you needed!

Hunting season for Deer is winding down, at least with guns, and this year I didn't hear any horror stories about tragic accidents. I'm sure there are some but at least I didn't hear any. I've heard about and even seen some nice bucks that were harvested this year. More clubs are getting into the raising big bucks now and it's paying off. Learning how to age deer before you shoot is the key element in this process and by letting these young bucks walk for at least another year will reap huge benefits in the seasons to come. Genetics mean everything!

I've also taken on another product that I'm really excited about, a ex-major league umpire friend of mine and his partner have developed and just patented a new ball field drying agent called "Rain Out" and I'll be a distributor for them. The product absorbs over 250 times it weight in water and in environmentally friendly. It also works well on grass surface "Hot Spots" and retains the moisture. You can check out my website for and see a product demonstration at www.rayborninc.com/rainout   If you have any question, just give me a call.

That's all I have for now, ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya on the flip side!!!!!!
