Congrats to the trivia winners, ya'll answered quickly this past week and great news, I got the call from Darrell and the t-shirts are ready! I'll be mailing them out Monday morning.

High School

I had a buddy scouting a game for me last week, it was the Parklane/Hillcrest game which Hillcrest came out on top. But my scout told me that Parklane is the real deal, they've got all the components to win it all, including a pretty good coach to guide them along the way. He said that when they come together, and he said it won't be long, they are going to be some upsets in the making! My scout didn't have a dog in this hunt so I know he's being sincere.

Now I don't care what anybody says, because when the MPSA didn't play MHSAA schools, there was always the brilliant statement saying that this public school would beat that private school knowing it wouldn't happen.....until here lately, the MPSA has held there own with the MHSAA schools and the latest victory was MRA over 5A Harrison Central. Now I enjoy both associations programs but I do hate to hear about the comparisons saying one is better than the other. I just hope both associations will continue this friendly exchange.

There's not much I can say about basketball that isn't already reported on The Board and those of ya'll that are doing this are scary good at times.

College

It's officially Bowl Time and I got my first fix during the Wake Forest/Navy game this weekend. Great game with lead changes and if the Bowl people think that a play-off system would affect the other bowl games, they are crazy! Fans of schools are going to attend their favorite team no matter where they stand in the BCS system.

Pro

The Saints won big!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did I mention they played the Lions? The Lions are now 0-15, the only team to ever be 0-15 during the regular season.

My Bolts stomp the Bucs and keep their play-off hopes alive....even with a coach that is about as smart as a football bat!

Jags and Giants on SNF...should be a good'un!!

Green Bay and Chicago on MNF with the Bears favored by 5.5 pts.

Other Stuff

I want to express my sincere best wishes to everyone that follows MLS every week. Remember what the Christmas Holidays really mean, it's not about presents and scarfing down way too much food, it's about the birth of our Lord and Savior...Jesus Christ!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Holidays and I'll catch ya'll next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Clean sweep on the trivia last week, poor Joey's crying and it's ya'lls fault! hahaha

High School

Basketball around the two States is heating up! Most were waiting on the Hillcrest/MRA boys game and while many thought that Hillcrest was the better team, the Patriots proved different.

Former Miss-Lou coach Michael McAnally has his Pelahatchie (ERA) teams competing and doing well. They have plenty of play-off experience and the girls should fair well down the road.

Trinity boys are starting to come together and several players are contributing in their latest wins. Trinity seems to do this almost every year, they get stronger as the season goes on.

I don't know much about this Alpha school, don't even know where it's located around Jackson but, I'd like to see them play. They've put up some impressive numbers this year against tough opponents.

College

Bradford wins the Heisman but Tebow had the most 1st place votes. This alone might fire Tebow up even more as the countdown is ticking til National Championship game time.

A lot of good quarterbacks this year, McCoy, Harrell, Bradford, Tebow, Stafford and I'm sure a couple more. Should be interesting come NFL Draft Day. Plus, I'm betting Tebow plays another year at Florida. And don't forget about Texas Tech's Crabtree, he's going to be a rich man, he won't play out his senior year, the money's to lucrative for him to risk injury.

Pro

How bout dem Aint's? They've all but assured themselves out of the play-offs. Of course if a few teams starting players are get injures and lose out, they may have an outside chance.....and monkeys will fly out of my bum!!!!

It's a good thing that Green Bay got rid of Brett Favre, the Pack is 5-9. A losing season...I bet Brett is having a good laugh about that one!

Oh yeah, the Jets are 9-5 and won against the Bills 31-27.

San Diego beats KC 22-21....The Chiefs???? They're 2-12, geez, c'mon front office, fire the bum!!! I think Norv would make a great coach somewhere else,( a lot of sarcasm) I don't care where else either, just go somewhere!!!

Detroit lost to Indy 31-21.....the Lions are having a perfect season, they're 0-14. At least Tampa Bay is happy about it!

Cleveland and Philly on Monday Night Football...Philly favored by 9 pts.   duh!!!

Other Stuff

My bow-fishing trip was messed up by high winds and high water, we only got around 6 to 8 fish in the boat, the worst trip I've ever been on with these guys but, it was Mother Natures fault, not theirs!

A little reminder for you basketball fans, put yourself in the shoes of the people you judge at the games, whether it's the coaches, players or refs, everybody out there are trying to do their jobs to the best of their abilities. I promise you that any yelling you do will not make the difference in the outcome of any contest. If you just like to yell, yell encouragement and praises, it'll go a lot further!

Gun season will resume next week and I encourage everyone that hunts to think SAFETY FIRST, and take a kid hunting, it's a lot more fun to see their expressions. Plus, send me more pictures, I have people all the time talking to me about the deer on this site.

That's all I got for now, ya'll be safe traveling and I'll catch ya'll down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What was the name of the minor league hockey team Paul Newman skated for in the movie Slap Shot? Answer: Charleston Chiefs. Winner: Eddie Brewer.

ESPN's Ron Semiao is known for what? Answer:
Creating the X-Games. Winner: Dave Myers.

Why did Bowie Kuhn suspend Yankee owner George Steinbrenner for two years in 1974? Answer:
Illegally contributing to Richard Nixon's presidential campaign. Winner: Gill Morris.

Well, I  guess ya'll don't like Joey walking around with his chest poked out because ya'll got'em all last week. Joey's got some great trivia this week and I'm curious if ya'll can get these...good luck!

High School

You really have to give Mississippi Public Broadcasting credit, they do  a great job every year covering the MHSAA Football State Title games, the camera work is good, the broadcasters call a good game and this years games were all fun to watch and very competitive. The University of South Panola may have lost but, don't feel to sorry for them because they are re-loading and the next 4 years they could be right back around 50 and 0!

Basketball is heating up and I think that the cross organization games are fun for the fans and the players. I hope they continue this for all sports next year as well.

I don't know anything about soccer, if someone wants to send me some reports about soccer, I'd be happy to post them here every week.

Again I have to say, we have some great prognosticators on "The Board" and I enjoy ya'lls reports. Keep up the great work!!!!

College

Alabama put up a valiant effort against Florida but, maybe if Florida hadn't lost one of its big playmakers in Harvin, what could the outcome have been? We'll never know but, he'll be ready for Oklahoma and in my opinion, this is the game that needs to take place. I don't think Texas would want to play Oklahoma right now, well they might want to but when it's over they'll wish they hadn't! Alabama has a great defense but, not enough firepower on offense to stay with the high scoring teams that are out there right now in the top 5. I think Alabama is still going to murder Utah in the Sugar!!!

Ole Miss vs. Texas Tech is the Cotton Bowl, although Ole Miss has exceeded expectations so early with first year head coach Houston Nutt, the Rebel defense better be ready to see footballs flying in all direction when Graham Harrell walks on the field for the Red Raiders.

LSU has a tough opponent in Georgia Tech in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl, if you watched them against Goergia, you know what I mean....explosive offense!

USM plays Troy in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, good match-up here as the Golden Eagles played a lot stronger towards the end of regular season play.

And finally, Mississippi State will be playing in the "Will Anybody Worth A Darn Coach Us Next Year" Bowl...... The Dogs are not favored!

Pro

The Saints play-off hopes are still in the air after beating rival Atlanta...are you getting excited?  I've been here before, they "ain't" fooling me again!

My Bolts beat the Raiders last Thursday but, it was the Raiders, even Norv couldn't mess that one up!

Tampa Bay and Carolina on Monday Night Football...both teams sit at 9-3 on the year and Carolina is favored by 1.5 pts. This should be a good game to watch!

Other Stuff

I need more pictures for the Outdoors Section and thanks to ya'll that have sent me stuff already. I want to make this section somewhere to go everyday.

Ya'll check out the "Where Are They Now" section and let me know if there are players or coaches not on here or are not playing anymore or have moved to other schools...thanks!

I'll be headed to Leeville, LA Tuesday evening for some bow-fishing and trout fishing, I hope to bring back plenty of fish for the freezer!

Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll when I get back!!!!!!!!

Who holds the U.S. record for playing in the most Olympics? Answer:
Teresa Edwards. Winner: Joey Martin.

Who played the last tie in an SEC football game? Answer:
LSU and South Carolina play to a 20-20 tie on Sept. 30, 1995 in Columbia before a JP-TV audience. It would be the last tied football game in the SEC, with the overtime format being implemented for the '96 season. Winner: Joey Martin.

In 2000, who ended Colin Montgomerie's seven-year run as leading money earner on the European Tour? Answer: Lee Westwood. Winner: Gill Morris.

In 1976, who did the Pittsburgh Pirates trade catcher Manny Sanguillen for? Answer:

Wow!!!! Joey is doing back flips after stumping ya'll on 3 trivia questions including the MAIN question. It's really bad, he walks around with his chest poked out all week!

High School

Centreville Academy wins the MPSA Class AA State Championship.....again. Congratulations to Coach Bill Hurst and the Tigers on another great season. Many thought after the losses to Parklane and Central Private that this was a year that Centreville would be re-building or just didn't have the talent, boy were they wrong!

Block High ends their season with a loss to South Plaquemine and I believe that Blocks coach learned a little about how comments in a paper can lead to motivation for an opposing team. Block had a great season and can hold their heads high and look forward to another great season next year.

Franklin County also ended their bid for a State Championship against Tylertown, but they had a fine season and I'm sure all their fans are proud that they made it as far as they did.

With football season over in the MPSA, I want to thank all of ya'll that gave us great post during the season, they are appreciated more than you even know. I continually talk to people that never post on The Board but, always log on to catch scores and read prognostications.

It's officially basketball season and "The Board" gets more traffic at this time of year than any other. We have some great posters that give great insights and predictions during this time of year and I hope they continue. Although the predictors take a lot of ribbing, they all do a good job and are always pretty close or sometimes even better than the States Newspapers.

Smurfdaddy does the MPSA Top 5 Poll and it includes numerous people from all over the State. He still gets ribbed!! Thanks for doing it anyway, I hope you'll continue the polls.

College

Most are thinking that Ole Miss will get an invitation to the Cotton Bowl but, there are circumstances that lead to an even better bowl, so I've heard, I don't remember how the person that told me how it worked out but, it sounded pretty good to me.

The Alabama/Florida SEC Championship may be a better game than the National Championship game. The Polls have Oklahoma over Texas now, I don't know why or how but, it's looking like Oklahoma may be playing for the NC against either Alabama or Florida but, if Florida wins, who knows what the BCS will do. Did I mention that I hate the BCS?

Speaking of Oklahoma, what a game last night against OK State. Back and forth but OK State just couldn't hold them.

I can't finish this part of my column without mentioning LSU, the loss to Arkansas, excuse me Les, R Kansas, could and should be a big red flag for the LSU Athletic Director, I told ya'll a few years ago that I didn't think he was capable of leading this team and I stand by my statements made then. He's probably a great guy and motivator but, it takes more than that to take a team that has a top rated recruiting class year in and year out and lose. I want the SEC to be the strongest conference in the nation and LSU has the ability to be one of our strongest teams under the right leadership.

Pro

The Saints lost to the Bucs and Brees didn't have a good day, 3 picks mostly caused by a line that couldn't hold off the Bucs defenders.

Monday Night Football will see two lethargic teams that sit at 4-7 apiece in Houston and Jacksonville, Houston is favored by 1 pt., I think I'll watch a basketball game!!! (sarcasm)

I can't finish talking about the Pros without saying.....Fire Norv!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think he would make a great coach at Mississippi State.

Other Stuff

Did ya'll see the Weekly Quote? Mark Fidrych also known as "The Bird", well when I was a sophomore and my first year at ACCS, the late coach Bob Ulmer nick-named me "Bird" because he thought I looked like Fidrych, so the name stuck for a few weeks until one day when I was coming back from the gym to the main school building, I saw a bunch of the senior football players standing by the door, I had to pass by them and being a sophomore, I had to take the punches and ribbing they gave me as I finally got past them. I had my hand on the door handle when one of the seniors said, "With a nose like that we shouldn't call him Bird because he looks like a dad gum Stork" So now you know why I've kept this nick-name for over 30 years!!!!!

I received this on our RedneckAdventures.com Guest Book and I was so proud that I had to share it with ya'll....here goes.........I am living in Enterprise, MS, just south of Meridian. My 8 yr old son attends the baseball camps at MCC, and he loves Coach Rayborn. I haven't seen the show yet, but Chris was telling me about it this week at the MCC Thanksgiving Baseball Camp. Stork, you've done well in raising Chris, as he is obviously a heck of an athlete and coach, but more importantly he is very respectful, and enjoys spending time with even the most least athletic of the kids that come to his camp. Just stopping by to give praise!!!!

If you have any photos of Deer harvest, please send them to me for the Outdoors section, we don't have many and we need to brag on ourselves or our kids, don't we?

That's all I have for this week, ya'll be careful and I'll catch ya'll later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

11/23/08

Name the three former Southern Miss Golden Eagles who have played in World Series. Answer: Jim Davenport, John Melvin Phillips, Chad Bradford. Winner: Lynn Chambley.

Bonus Questions

Who is the first member of the Baseball Hall of Fame to play more than half his games as a designated hitter? Answer: Paul Molitor. Winner: Don Sandifer.

In 1993, Pete Sampras succeeded what American as the No.1-ranked male tennis player in the world? Answer: Jim Courier. Winner: Gill Morris.

Who was the first European to win the NBA's Rookie of the Year award? Answer: Paul Gasol. Winner: Dave Myers.

Who won the most money on the NASCAR stock car racing circuit with winnings of $98,810 in 1964? Answer: Richard Petty. Winner: Eddie Brewer.

The Trivia was killed this week, poor Joey is sick to his stomach, he likes it when he stumps ya'll. Let's try to make him sick again this week.

High School

Natchez High was the last team left standing after last week and now their time is over but, what a season they had and I predict it's only going to get better! Coach Reed has made believers out of his young bunch and they'll be more experienced and play-off ready next year.

On the larger Miss-Lou scale, we still have Franklin County, Centreville Academy and Block High moving closer to the title. Centreville can wrap it up next week while the other two have a couple games left. Best of luck to you all.

College

While I love SEC Football, I don't really have a favorite team, I grew up an Ole Miss fan mostly because of Archie, my parents went to many games and me and my brother got to go to a few with them. But when Archie left, we didn't follow them much. But I was pulling for Ole Miss this weekend but mostly because I was born in Mississippi. I pull for LSU when they play anybody outside of Mississippi. So when I tell you this (again) I'm really sincere......LSU, get rid of Les Miles, he ain't a coach and he can't hire good people to help him to even make him look good! He won last year on pure talent, a good coach last year would have run the table!

The Ole Miss Rebels are young, I pulled up their roster on the net and they've got just about everybody coming back. Nutt is a coach! If you don't believe me, ask Les Miles. The Rebels may have a high pre-season ranking next year.

I was excited about the Saturday night game that pitted #2 Texas Tech against #5 Oklahoma, I've only watched TT play twice (Texas and OK State) and I thought they were the real deal....WRONG!!!! Oklahoma stumped the Red Raiders and made them look like Hawaii playing Georgia last year. Pitiful, just pitiful. Now I'm thinking we'll see Florida vs. Oklahoma. Yeah, I think Florida will probably do to Alabama what Oklahoma just did to TT.

Pro

Jet Favre, I mean Brett Favre, just tore the Tennessee Titans a new one! So I don't need to hear any junk about him being old, out of shape, wore out or anything that would portray him not being able to take the Jets to the big dance because he is able!!

New Orleans and Green Bay play on Monday Night Football and both are 5-5 on the year, the Packers are favored by 1 pt. in the contest.

What I said last week about Cleveland winning was a gut feeling, notice I didn't say anything this week, they got beat by the Texans!!!

Other Stuff

For those of ya'll that didn't know, MissLouSports.Com was started as a local website that covered Natchez and Vidalia sports, it has since grown to cover all of Mississippi and Louisiana and I don't have any problem with that, as a matter of fact I have enjoyed it a lot. So most of what I report on locally is because I don't have the means to cover everything these states put out there. I would love to have some reporters from all over these 2 states to give me a column anytime they wish. I'll be glad to post them here on the main page. Whether it's sports reports or prognostications, it doesn't matter, you can even be anonymous if you like.

I didn't even go in the woods this past weekend, three straight weeks of taking kids and handicapped kids hunting was enough for me to stay home this weekend....Ok I played golf Saturday. But we'll be back in the woods soon with some more kids trying to get their first elusive deer.

I'm hearing that the Speckled Trout are tearing it up in south Louisiana, if this is true, I may be headed south! I'm out of fish and I need enough to get me through the winter.

That's all I got for now, best of luck to all the high school football teams this Friday night....ya'll have a good'un!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

11/17/08

Prior to the 1970 Rose Bowl game Bo Schembechler suffered a heart attack which kept him in the hospital for the game. Who was the Defensive Coordinator who handled the Head Coaching duties in his place? Answer: Jim Young. Winner: Marty Stamper.

Bonus Questions

Unfortunately, Michigan came out on the short end of the stick that day, losing to USC 10-3. Bo would recover to lead U of M back to the Rose Bowl 9 more times. Who played in the first Sugar Bowl when the New Orleans bowl began its long-standing agreement with the SEC? Answer: Georgia faced Pittsburgh in 1977. Winner: Eddie Brewer.

Who was the first Black pitcher in the major leagues? Answer: Don Bankhead. Winner: Charlie Mascagni.

What pitcher had his fastball clocked a 100.8 miles per hour in a 1974 game? Answer: Nolan Ryan. Winner: Dave Myers.

What pitcher pitched no-hitters for the Cardinals in 1978 and 1983? Answer: Bob Forsch. Winner: David Boydstun.

Which player holds the record for most yards rushing in a single college football game? Answer:
LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for 406 yards in a single game while playing for TCU in 1999. Winner: Joey Martin.

I received a lot of answers to the last trivia question and everybody pretty much guessed the same thing but, it wasn't according to Joey and that's what counts!

I talked to Darrel and he should have the new designs ready this week. As soon as I receive them, I'll start mailing out the shirts to the winners from previous contest.

High School

How bout them Natchez High Bulldogs? Upsetting the number 1 seed and 8th ranked Petal squad. Petal coach Steve Buckley played at old South Natchez but at the same school grounds. I bet he had that on his mind as well. Natchez will host Oak Grove this week and it should be a barn burner! How long has it been since Natchez High was the last team still competing for a football title in the Miss-Lou? With winning comes more players, everybody wants to be a part of a winner and I expect coach Lance Reed will probably have to cut players next year, a problem he'll enjoy having.

Congratulations to coach David King and the Trinity Saints, they put up a valiant effort but, late season injuries plagued the team as several players were hobbling just to try and keep competitive.

College

Who didn't think LSU was fixing to get knocked off by Troy? If you say "Me" you might not be honest with yourself. It was almost comical for awhile but, the Tigers scratched their way back into lead. That could have been the death penalty for Les Miles.

I watched the Alabama/Miss. State game and it was great.....for about 3 minutes. Although they loved showing the old footage of Miss. State upsetting the Tide.

The game I'm looking forward to this week is Texas Tech and Oklahoma. I've heard several people say that Texas Tech is just another last years Hawaii, I don't think so, I mean they whooped Texas and Oklahoma State and that ain't to shabby.

In my opinion, the only team I see that can score with Texas Tech is Florida and if things keep in the direction they're headed, we might just get to see that game.

Pro

The Saints win...yippie! (said with much sarcasm)

The Chargers lose to the Steelers 11-10, first time is NFL history that a game ends with the score 11-10. So much talent on San Diego's team and no coach that knows how to use it the right way. Hey, I heard that the University of Tennessee was looking to the NFL for a possible replacement for Fulmer and I think Norv Turner is their man! PLEASE PICK HIM!!!!!

Cleveland at Buffalo tonight on MNF and I'm telling ya, Brady Quinn is fixing to make an upset happen!

Other Stuff

We had a great number of kids for the Outdoors Without Limits Youth Deer Hunt and it went off without a hitch. Several shots were fired and a couple went down. Other stands wouldn't have had a deer come within miles of their stand (noise by the young'uns) but, they still had a good time in the stand. After the hunt everybody went out to Brian Breaux's camp out Liberty Road where he was hosting the St. Jude's Horseback Trail Ride. Lots of money was raised for St. Jude's and we had an auction for Outdoors Without Limits that was great also. Thanks to everybody that contributed to both of these events.

Gun season opens this coming weekend and I urge everybody to think SAFETY FIRST. It's real easy to get complacent and that's when accidents happen! And also if you can, take a kid hunting. There are several single parents that don't have the time or place to take their kid hunting and you could help a child experience the great outdoors.

That's all I got for now, ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

11/10/08

Who holds the Conference USA record for most net yards gained in a game? Answer: Tulane's Matt Forte with 342 Against SMU. Winner: Joey Martin.

Bonus Questions

Name the skier who was shown at the start of each "Wide World of Sports Show" wiping out. Answer: Vinko Bogataj. Winner: Eddie Brewer.

Who was the first NBA coach to reach 1,000 victories? Answer: Lenny Wilkens. Winner: Joey Martin.

What AFC team had the only pair of receivers to catch 100 or more passes during the 2000 season? Answer: Broncos. Winner: Joey Martin.

What NFL QB was the object of the affections of 25 women in the 2004 edition of The Bachelor? Hint, it is not Hoff ! Answer: Jesse Palmer. Winner: Walt Brown.

Unreal, Joey's questions are just too tough? Only two questions were answered! Although I did enjoy Walt telling me how much he enjoyed "The Bachelor" when Jesse was on there. C'mon ya'll, don't give Joey the opportunity to stump ya'll because he likes it when he wins!!!!

High School

High School football is winding down fast, and even sooner for others. But we still have Natchez High and Trinity making a run for a title. Best of luck to ya'll and congrats on a great season by all the other teams that have finished the season.

Basketball is getting in full swing with most girls teams already have been playing several games. Most of the boys games still look like football games and will continue that way until they get their gym floor legs adjusted.

My partner Jim Bob is helping coach the first ever soccer team out at ACCS and he was telling me that they two of three games this weekend in McComb and against public schools, I think they beat North Pike and Loyd Star. Not too shabby for a brand new team. I don't know anything about soccer except that there's a person in front of a net that don't want you to kick it in there.

College

Ole Miss opens back up with a tough game against UL-Monroe, it's Ole Miss's homecoming.

LSU hopes to get back on the winning side again and it'll be tough this week as they host Troy.

State has Alabama...enough said!

USM host East Carolina.

I'll tell you what, Texas Tech is unreal, Harrell is gonna make millions in the NFL and if Crabtree comes out early (he's a sophomore) he'll make millions also. I think the only team that can play with them is Florida because, you HAVE to be able to put up points with them and I ain't seen a team yet this year that score like Texas Tech! All the sports professionals think Oklahoma still has a chance for the National Championship, I can't wait to hear what they say after they play Texas Tech in a couple of weeks.

Alabama struggled against LSU, although both teams do have a good defense, I don't think Alabama can stop Florida is the SEC Championship. Unless the BCS screws up (again) we should see Texas Tech and Florida at the big dance.

Pro

San Diego beats Kansas City by ONE POINT!!!!!!!!!! C'mon front office, fire Norv Turner!! Kansas City has only won ONE GAME!! Talent is being abused at San Diego, can a person be legally responsible and be forced to serve jail time? I'll sit on the jury.

The Saints lose, wanna know why? It was a conference game! Geez, where's my bag?

Jet Favre didn't put up any big numbers, heck he only attempted 19 passes and completed 14 of those! They won 47 to 3 but, they were playing the Rams.

San Fran and Arizona tonight....anybody know anything else to do tonight?

Other Stuff

I'm playing in the Natchez Children's Home Celebrity Golf Classic today out at Beau Pre' C.C., My celebrity will be Pro Baseball umpire Joe West, he's got a millions stories and the guy keeps you laughing. Yesterday I played a practice round with former MLB umpire Greg Bonine and Southern Miss and Oakland Raider 3 times Super Bowl winner Ray Guy. Ray is one heck of a guy, what you see is what you get and he's just a good ole country boy from Georgia. Ray is back at USM and he's getting them ready for the USM Centennial coming soon.

Redneck Adventures is teaming up with "Outdoors Without Limits" this coming weekend and we've got some great folks that have donated their land for these handicapped kids to hunt on. It should be a great experience for all involved and if you want to help in any way, contact me or Jim Bob and we'll find something you can do.

That's all I got for this week, I'll catch ya'll later!!!!!!

I know, I know....it's been awhile but, I do have valid excuses. First my server messed up and I was doing good just to be able to log on! Then I went out of town two different times and when I'd get back, it'd be the end of the week. Anyway we all know what excuses are like!

ACCS loses their final game...or do they? I guess you could say both, huh? If ya'll figure it out, let me know. Anyway their season is over.

Cathedral had an open date.

Natchez High thumps Wingfield and earns a play-off berth.

Trinity gets to witness, first hand...Bill Hurst 300th victory. Meaningless game except for Coach Hurst.

Vidalia upends Avoyelles pretty soundly.

High School

Cathedral at West Lincoln - I'm not sure if the Greenwave still has a chance to make the play-offs but, with so many teams, I guess anything is possible.

Natchez High will host Hattiesburg - A dog and cat fight and the dog always wins!!!

Trinity hosting Simpson Academy in the first round of the Class AA play-offs. I'm thinking the Saints have waken!

Vidalia host Bolten for the final game of the season.

Trinity played Centreville without 4 key players that were nursing injuries, it won't be like Centreville, this I can promise!

Natchez High's Coach Lance Reed has made believers out of his players and now it's showing on the field. Congrats!

College

Ole Miss slips by Auburn and now has to hold off a mean UL-Monroe team. (that was a joke)

LSU snoozes by Tulane. Best game is next week as they host Saban and the Elephants. Former Trinity star Steven Ridley had 5 carries for 51 yds. and a TD. (remember, he can't play running back in the SEC or for LSU)

Miss. State is going the wrong direction and hands Kentucky a win. State is idle next week.

USM blast UAB and is idle also next week.

I really thought the Florida and Georgia game was gonna be a great one and it was pretty good going into the 3rd qtr., then Florida woke up and Georgia went to bed.

What a great first half by Texas Tech up 22-3 over #1 Texas. The 2nd half was better than the first when Texas decides to wake up and play. There are tons of talent on this team and Tech may have the recruiting advantage in Texas, ain't that strange? This was my first time to watch them and I'll be tuning in more often as their offense is a blast to watch!

Pros

I don't care what San Diego does the rest of the year, if they come back and win the rest of their games and make the play-offs and win the Super Bowl...I still say they need to get rid of Norv Turner!! He is just horrible and he needs to be put out to pasture!!!! Geez, we lost to the Saints!

I can't wait for Monday Night Football so I can watch the half-time show!!!!! (I'm being VERY sarcastic)

Other Stuff

I've been talking with Darrell's Screen Printing here in Natchez and he's been so busy lately, but he said he'd have to designs for me to look at the first of this month. I'm wanting them to look good and be something ya'll would be proud to wear. So bear with me until I get them out.

Joey's Trivia continues to be a success and I thank ya'll for playing, I'll have t-shirts for the winners as soon as I can get them in my hands.

Great job by all of ya'll that post, predict, report and continue to make MissLouSports.Com the place to visit for athletic events.

Basketball season has started and MissLouSports gets pounded during round ball time! Should be an interesting season and I'm looking forward to the predictions and prognostications.

I'm adding new pictures to the MissLouSports Outdoors link below, check'em out!

We had a great time in Fayetteville, TN as we were part of the "Kid's Hunting For A Cure" Youth Deer Hunt. 8 yr. old Aaron got a nice 6 pt. buck again this year, I really didn't think he'd be with us this year. A generator was brought to the stand so he could take breathing treatments (15 times) the deer kept coming back every time the generator fired off until the buck came out. He wasn't missing this hunt for anything and the smile on his face was worth every minute of it!

We'll be starting season #12 of Redneck Adventures in the next few weeks, check your local listings to find us on your cable system or satellite.

That's all I got for this week, I'm headed out for a dove hunt Monday morning......catch ya'll later!!!!!

There's not much about high school games that I can say anymore, all the games are covered by so many people on The Board now that, I'm just wasting space on here! I ain't complaining, it's really gotten good as more and more people have taken the time to report and predict every week. Great job by all of ya'll that are involved. I hope to see even more in the future.

As far a our local sports are concerned (and  that's what started this website) the Miss-Lou is battling in both public and private schools. Trinity is the favorite in the private schools around here and Natchez High is making a name for themselves as well. Play-off scenarios are still developing for others and we'll have our share representing when that time comes.

High School

ACCS at Prairie View - anything can happen is high school football, the Rebels have a chance here but, they need to be hitting on all cylinders.

Cathedral host Puckett - Puckett has had some strong teams in the past and the Green Wave needs to right the ship this week.

Natchez High host Jim Hill - A bid win for the Bulldogs last week over Brandon, I expect another win for them this week.

Trinity host River Oaks - The Saints need to stay focused and they'll win this one easily.

Vidalia travels to Marksville - The Vikings need a win this week as they hope to "Cash In" in Marksville.

College

Ole Miss at Alabama - Bama's not happy they didn't get the #1 billing in the polls, this could be bad for the Rebels.

LSU at South Carolina - The Gamecocks are so wishy washy that you never know what team will show up. Will LSU be ready or are they still shell shocked?

Mississippi State at Tennessee - The Dogs knocked off Vandy last week, it ain't going to be that easy this week.

USM at Rice - Hopefully the Eagles can get back on the right track this week. Boise State was just a little to much but, they hung in alright.

Co-Lin at East Central - The Wolves are making some noise this year, here's hoping they keep it going.

Pros

Could you feel the electricity in the air last night? If you did, that was my Bolts!!! I love those powder blue jerseys. I need one with Fouts name on the back, do they still make his? If Rivers keep throwing up big numbers, I may have to get me one of his though. A solid performance over the Patriots last night. I still don't like Norv, so don't get any ideas.

New Orleans thumps the Raiders and it couldn't happen to a nicer man than Al Davis.

Eli Manning (I think he still sucks his thumb) and Company will play tonight against the Browns on Monday Night Football.....Go Browns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was out of town at the end of the week so I've updated Joey's News from last Wednesday.

That's all I got right now, if I think of something else, I'll sling it at ya'll on The Board!!!!!

I know I've been lazy getting Trivia prizes out but I've just worked a deal with Darrell Hash of Darrell's Screen Printing and we'll be making up some new T-Shirts for the main question winner each week. Darrell has been doing my shirts for years and he can print anything on a T-Shirt. We'll be making some different designs that will be fun to wear.

I played in the Beau Pre' C.C. Coca Cola 4-Ball this past weekend and the tournament was great. My team placed third in our flight with a score of 73-71 for a two day total of 144 (even par) We had 8 birdies but we also had 8 bogies. The team of Bill Byrne and Greg Brooking won the event on the last hole when Bill chipped in for eagle which gave them a one stroke lead and the victory. Beau Pre' is in the best condition it's has been in all year. If you have the chance, get out there and play, tell them your my guest for extra discounts!

High School

ACCS has yet to win a game but, this may be the week it turns around as they travel to Claiborne.

Cathedral played Mt. Olive tough last week and they'll turn it around this week at Stringer.

Natchez High ran into a buzzsaw against Oak Grove and they'll have their hands full when Brandon comes to town.

Trinity cruised by Tallulah and they'll keep the cruise control on this week when they go through Silliman.

Vidalia is glad the Jena game is over and they're looking to knock Bunkie out for the count with home field advantage.

College

Ole Miss was riding to high after upsetting Florida, I figured S. Carolina would knock the off and they did. They'll get a week to heal their bruises.

LSU travels to Florida for what could be a real test for the Tigers. Yeah I know, Ole Miss beat them but, don't underestimate Florida.

Miss. State has had a week of rest and they'll need it as they face Powerhouse Vanderbilt? That just sounds funny don't it? But Vandy has been putting everybody in front of them down for the count.

USM will host Boise-State, what can I say about this game? Good Luck Eagles!

Co-Lin upset nationally ranked Gulf Coast..and on Co-Lin's Homecoming!!! They travel to Pearl River this week to keep the momentum going.

Pro

The Chargers lose to Miami...Miami!!!!!!!!!! I've never done this before so I may need some help, How do you get a coach fired? I need all the legal work to get this done. Norv Turner can't win. They've got way to much talent on this team to lose to MIAMI!!!!!

The Giants beat Seattle and there's no story to this game, the Seahawks just suck this year but, I wanted to remind everybody that I still don't like Eli Manning...the traitor!!!

Our beloved Saints play tonight on Monday Night Football against the Vikings. Yawn....Maybe I'll catch some of the spectacle.

I'm headed to Smith-Wills stadium today in Jackson as Meridian C.C. plays a couple of Fall baseball games.

The trivia answers aren't coming in like usually, are they too hard? Is Joey just too smart? I mean, do you really like seeing Joey's name next to the questions that aren't answered?

Oh well, that's all I got for this week...I'll see ya'll around somewhere, ya'll have a good'un!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As most of ya'll know or have read about this on The Board....Jake Marks passed away early Saturday morning when his truck ran off the road striking a tree. He just turned 24 yrs. old. Jake's brother Russ  and my son have been best friends since before they were born (it seems) they were on the same team for many years and we always got Jake on the team every other year as there was less than a year in their ages. I'll never forget one game when Jake was 9, he wanted to pitch so Matt Mason let him give it a try, he threw 12 straight balls and loaded the bases. Russ was catching and when Matt came out to pull Jake, Russ met him at the mound with Jake. Matt said "that's enough, I'm bringing somebody else in" Jake said, "give me one more chance, I'll strike the next one out!" Russ chimes in " How? You ain't throw'd a strike yet!" Matt let him throw to the next batter, he walked him and when Matt came out, Jake just tossed him the ball and never stopped walking back to the dugout. I spent almost as much time with these Marks boys as I did my own son, they spent countless hours at my house. They are very close to me and I will miss Jake as much as anybody. The family ask that in lieu of flowers that you send a donation in Jake's name to your favorite children's organization.

What is going on in college football? USC was suppose to cruise into the National Championship....Wrong! Ole Miss beats Florida....What? Alabama knocks off Georgia...Believable, but the rankings are going crazy at the top and who knows what can happen next. The SEC is so strong this year that it's going to be hard for any SEC team to go unblemished. Well, at least they're saying that Oklahoma will cruise through the rest of this season, I bet Oklahoma hates hearing that!

High School

ACCS host Parklane - The first win may not happen this week.

Cathedral at Mount Olive - More speed for the Greenies to contain.

Natchez High at Oak Grove - Another tough hill to climb.

Trinity host Tallulah - Name for favorite score in favor of the Saints.

Vidalia at Jena - The Vikings right the ship this week.

College

Ole Miss host S. Carolina

State is idle

USM host Texas El-Paso

LSU is idle

Co-Lin homecoming with MS Gulf Coast

Pro

It looks like my Chargers are finally hitting on all cylinders...I still don't like Norv Turner!!!

The Saints are back to winning..but for how long?

Brett the Jet took off throwing 6 TD passes...that's right 6!!!!!!

That's all I got for this week, ya'll have a good'un and I'll catch ya'll on The Board!!!!!

9/14/08

Name the former NL pitcher who umpired back-to-back no-hitters in 1968 and name the pitchers. Answer: Ken Burkhart was the umpire, Gaylord Perry and Ray Washburn were the
pitchers.

Bonus Questions

In 1958, this relief pitcher started a game and ended up tossing a no-hitter. Name him. Answer: Hoyt Wilhelm. Winner: Eddie Brewer.

Name the school which became the first to compile a perfect regular season and tournament mark in basketball en route to the NCAA title. Answer: University of San Francisco. Winner: Joey Martin.

Name the last major league pitcher to lose 20 games in a season. Answer: Mike Maroth. Winner: Adam Daigle.

Name the only two-time Triple Crown winners in baseball. Answer: Ted Williams and Rogers Hornsby. Winner: Jennifer Boydstun Herring.

I was out of town last week so I didn't get to give my weekly ramblings. So I'll ramble on this week. First of all there are always complainers on The Board, mostly about coaches and their abilities to win games....It's somewhat expected because the majority of us are just plain competitive and we like to win, I mean, Who doesn't? But before you go spouting your mouth off under an assumed name, you ought to at least think about the other person's feelings and the career that they have chosen. Most coaches don't get high paid salaries, most have to teach classes during the day and are expected to be role models for your children. They spend countless hours after school teaching your kids athletics and some even teach life lessons that will stay with them the rest of their lives...even if they don't win every ballgame. So please think about this the next time before you go and blast somebody and snicker and hide behind that made up name.

I went out to Natchez High last Friday night as they hosted Wilkinson County and picked up another win. I was very impressed with the Wilkinson County offense, they ran the double wing and executed it very well, it had the Bulldog defense scrambling for awhile but, the Wildcats always seemed to find a way to screw up a good drive by either throwing interceptions or turning the ball over. Jeremy Davis and Willie Newman both had picks in the first half with Newman's being a 71 yd TD for the Dogs. On the other side of the ball, NHS's linebacker Zach Evans name was called out almost every play, he's a beast on "D". This was the first high school game that I've ever attended that the head referee had on a microphone. It sure made the game more professional and informative for all in attendance.

ACCS lost to River Oaks but the offense scored some points which is a good sign and some added confidence for the Rebels.

Cathedral Didn't smoke Salem but, they came away with a "W" and that's what counts!

Trinity crushed Tri-County and played a better style of fundamental football.

Vidalia opened up their first game with a big loss to Ouachita Christian, a tough start for the Vikings.

Games this Week

ACCS will host Silliman - If the Rebels play hard and cut down on mistakes, this is a game they can win.

Cathedral plays at Pelahatchie - I look for Cathedral to stay undefeated after this one.

Natchez High host Franklin County - Game of the Week for the Miss-Lou, which Dog is the meanest?

Trinity will host Prairie View - PV was suppose to be really competitive and the Saints better not look this one over to easily.

Vidalia will play at Ferriday - The Vikings will get back on track this week.

College Games this Week

LSU has their first real game this year as they travel to play a stingy defense in Auburn. This will be another low scoring game with turnovers being the factor in the outcome.

Ole Miss host Vanderbilt and this Vanderbilt team ain't no pushover!

Mississippi State travels to Georgia Tech and if Sly makes some more bone headed plays, don't expect anything different.

USM will host Marshall but the chant will be "We Are, USM" instead.

Co-Lin will travel to Southwest and this is the biggest rival game in Junior College football...I hope they quit painting the Bear blue. Do they even have a live Bear anymore?

I know there's a lot of worthless junk on The Board at times but, we have some great people posting scores and predictions and general information about sports and my hat is off to ya'll.

I surely wish we could get more Public school info on The Board but, it seems to me that Mississippi Sports Talk Board is mostly Public Schools info with some MPSA and MissLouSports in just the opposite. All it takes is for a few people to step up and help make MissLouSports the place to go to get ALL High School info every week.

I'll be heading to Tupelo, MS this coming Thursday through Sunday for the Sportsman's Show. Redneck Adventures will have a booth at the show. If you're in the area, drop by and see me and we'll talk sports or hunting.

That's all I have for this week, ya'll have a great week and I'll catch up with ya later!!!!!

Name the former University of Alabama standout who was nicknamed Hummingbird because he grunted while he ran. Answer: Ray Perkins of Mississippi. Winner: Chad Fisher.

Bonus Questions

Among QBs, who topped the NFL in rushing yardage in 2001? Answer: Kordell Stewart. Winner: Joey Martin.

Name the Seattle Supersonic who won the NBA slam dunk contest as a rookie in 2001. Answer: Desmond Mason. Winner: Joey Martin.

Against what team did Barry Bonds hit more HRs than any other? Answer: San Diego Padres. Winner: Adam Daigle.

This pro football Hall of Famer won an NCAA title in football and baseball at USC. Name him. Answer: Anthony Munoz. Winner: Joey Martin.

In 1950, this Brooklyn Dodger hit four home runs in one game against the Boston Braves. Name him. Answer: Gil Hodges. Winner: Eddie Brewer.

Three unanswered trivia questions, what happened? Is Joey making these too tough? Maybe he'll lighten up on ya'll this week so we can get more people involved. I got a new laptop that I can easily bring home now in cases of bad weather or I just feel like it.

I went to the AC/TE game last Friday night and I understood the fact that the referees had a big job that night, they knew that this was a cross town rivalry and I heard them many times telling the players to watch their mouths...and that was from BOTH sides. What most people don't understand is the fact that most of these kids are friends and it's just kids giving each other some old fashion ribbing. I saw several girls from each school hugging each other before the game. Adults make WAY to much of what all went on during the game. Of course this is my opinion and I think I'm pretty close. My thoughts on the game are.......Trinity needs more game discipline, they had way too many penalties, the speed is there and everybody knows that speed kills! The young quarterback is going to be really good, he has a great arm for a sophomore and time along with more experience will only make him better. On the other side of the ball (ACCS) they showed some signs of promise, a better team than last year and they'll get better and better each year.

Cathedral started off their season last Thursday night with a big win against an always tough opponent in Dexter. I was out of town but I received reports from some serious football fanatics that gave me the rundown on the game. Cathedral is playing defense better this year than in a long time and this could be the difference come play-off time.

Natchez High's young sophomore quarterback showed signs of a seasoned veteran last Friday night. Jevon Washington used to ride around the golf course with his grandfather Tom Matthews at Duncan Park 10 or so years ago and Tom would let him hit a few balls along the way. I don't think he's worried about gold anymore. He guided his team to a big win and he had a good defense to back him up. I can't wait to see Jevon in action, I may bring him a couple of golf balls.

Vidalia played a scrimmage last Saturday and held tight with an always strong Delhi Charter. Don't ever count out Faircloth & Co. Vidalia is due and this could be the year!

Next Up!!!!

ACCS at Centreville

Cathedral at Salem

Natchez High at Gulf Port

Trinity host Huntington

Vidalia at Block

All of this is pending Hurricane Gustav, Gulf Port could possibly come here, if the game is even played at all.

We've got some great guys and gals on The Board that post scores, make predictions, give analyses of games and make some great conversations about sports. I thank all of ya'll for your time and dedication to help make MissLouSports.Com the place to go for information.

I thank ya'll for sending me updates last Friday night, I didn't get as many last Friday night as I expected but, I did get some great updates and I passed them along to those that asked. I really enjoy doing this, I just need more people from both public and private to get me these scores as the games are going on. I will start taking my new laptop to the games in hopes that I can post scores as I get them on The Board.

I watched some of the LSU/App. State game and watched Ridley on special teams, he looks like a beast out there! He got 3 carries late in the game but one carry was called back, I think he was credited for 2 carries for 15 yds. It would have been 3 for 20 yds. I think we'll see more of him as the season rolls on though.

Ole Miss handled Memphis with no problems this year as did USM over ULL but, I can't say much about Miss. State except that it's going to be along year for the Dogs!!!

The SEC is stacking up some great teams this year, which will further the talk about a play-off system that works! I ain't going to beat this dead horse this early in the season but, it won't be long!

That's all I got for this week, ya'll be careful during the storm and I'll catch ya'll later!!!!

In 2000, Christian Guzman broke the Twins' season record for triples held by what former All-Star? Answer: Rod Carew. Winner: Eddie Brewer.

Wow, the first week of football and the immature behavior on The Board has already reached a new high! Why can't people act their age and enjoy The Board for what it is, a place to get scores and talk about the good things that are taking place at their schools. I'm about sick and tired of reading the ranting of childish post made by people that hide behind their screen name. The talk about people without any real evidence has grown to the point that something is going to explode. Don't get me wrong, when something happens that is public knowledge and The Board is informed, I don't mind but, when someone starts making up stories that are inconclusive, that's when it's going to happen. And you know what the cause of most of all the problems are? It's really simple.....little Johnny or little Suzie didn't get to play. I mean really, that's what most of all of this is about! So the next time you feel like blaming somebody, take a long hard look at yourself.....my name is Keith Rayborn and these are my opinions!!!!!

ACCS lost to WCCA and will be looking to rebound against Trinity this week. It'll be a tough hill to climb especially with the Saints speed on the field. Get there early if you want to good seat.

Cathedral is ready to play some football and will have their chance Thursday night as they host Dexter on Thursday night, another packed house here as well, might not hurt to bring a lawn chair to this one.

Natchez High will head to Jefferson County for their first game of the year and the Coach Reed air attack begins.

Trinity put a solid thrashing on the defending Alabama Ind. School Assn. Champions last Friday night. I had my ace reporter their and got all the updates and an overall report on the game from her (my wife) She said that Trinity was just too fast for them Alabama boys. Coach David King knows how to get all he can from his players and this year won't be any different.

Vidalia's still waiting for September 5th and the Block Bears to open up their regular season.

Thanks to everybody for sending me their schools updates, my cell phone was lit up like a pinball machine Friday night. Please remember to give me the name of the teams when you send me scores as I can't remember all of the cell numbers and where they came from. But again, thanks and I hope ya'll keep giving them to me. I'll be at the AC/TE game Friday night and I'll be writing scores down, so if you need an update, please call me, I ain't a very fast texter and every time I get a text or call when I'm trying to text, it cuts me off. So it's easier for me to answer your calls than to text it back to you. I try and keep up with all games, both public and private but, I have to have your help.

College Football cranks up this coming Saturday!!!!!

Joey's Trivia got busted wide open last week, let's see how he rebounds this week. I ain't betting on Joey!!!!

The Beau Pre' Member/Guest Tournament was rained out Sunday and I really needed to play to make up for our horrible performance on Saturday. Everybody got their rounds in Saturday and Beau Pre did an excellent job of hosting the event and the activities Saturday night. Oh well, maybe next year!!!!

Please help Glenn by getting him the information on the kids for the "Where are they Now?"  section of this page. It's nice to see that our kids are still out there giving it their all.

That's all I got for this week, ya'll have a good'un!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who is the only Major League baseball player to ever hit a baseball completely out of Jersey City's Roosevelt Park in the mid-1950s? Answer: Willie Mays. Winner: Eddie Brewer.

Bonus Questions

In 2000, ex-Temple guard Pepe Sanchez became the first NBA player ever from what country? Answer: Argentina. Winner: Andrew Ketchings.

Who is the all-time leader in career victories in Formula One auto racing? Answer: Michael Schumacher. Winner: Joey Martin.

What Marquette star poured in 35 points for Puerto Rico in a near-upset win over the U.S. in the 1976 Olympics? Answer: Butch Lee. Winner: Dave Myers.

In 1996, who threw the first no-hitter in the history of the Marlins? Answer: Al Leiter. Winner: Adam Daigle.

What longtime Major League player, coach and manager is nicknamed "Popeye"? Answer: Don Zimmer. Winner: Billy Bays.

I was gone all of last week and was surprised this morning by the flood of guesses on the trivia questions, so many were correct but, I had to go by the dates and times that they entered my computer and award the winners by first come basis. Only the Auto Racing question wasn't answered and I even had one person tell me that wasn't a sport. The debate continues!

My son was home for the weekend (to collect birthday money) he'll be 25 tomorrow and I still can't figure out how me and his mother are only 35!!!! Anyway, after all the good cooking and bloated feelings from the food, I sat back and watched the Olympics. It was 8:30 and I could barely hold my eyes open but, Phelps and company were going off at 10:00....I sat up and forced myself to stay up and watch and I'm glad I did because I saw history being made and I may never see this again, 8 Gold Medals, truly remarkable. How can anyone not enjoy the Olympics?

How bout ole Brett Farve? He looked pretty sharp for his first time out and under a new offense. He hit 4 different receivers also. Seeing him as a Jet wasn't oo bad, at least it was green, it would have been different if it had been purple. He is one of a kind!

The Clarion Ledger listed it "Players to Watch" this past Sunday and in the Juniors division, R.J. Fleming of Trinity was listed. Congrats R.J.

OK, this MPSA Jamboree stuff is over and it's time for real football. Here in the Miss-Lou...ACCS travels to Woodville to play the Rams of WCCA. A second homecoming of sorts for Coach Paul Hayles. Huntington will host Central Private in their first match-up of the year and Coach Harkins will have his Hounds ready to play. This should be a great game to watch! Trinity travels to Alabama to play the defending AISA Class A State Champs, the Saints can show what the Miss-Lou is made of in this contest! Best of luck to everyone and I hope to see ya'll out there somewhere.

Beau Pre' C.C. is having their annual Member/Guest Golf Tournament this coming weekend and it's always a good one with plenty of food and entertainment. Sign up early, it could fill up fast!

Joey's News is updated from last week, click on his link above.

P.S. - Sending me e-mails won't always get answered very fast, I'm hardly ever here. So if you have something you would like to remove off "The Board".....Ask for removal on the thread in question and use all capital letters....thanks!

That's all I got for this week so ya'll have a good'un!!!!

8/11/08

First of all, it's my semi-annual birthday today, I'm 47 and a half. I just noticed that when I typed in the date...oh well, on to my ranting........ I've been helping a friend of mine get his hunting camp back in place after the flood, so believe it or not, I'VE BEEN WORKING!!!!!!!!!! So I haven't had much time to read what all has been going on, on The Board. So I will now update my thoughts and opinions and whatever else I feel like getting off my chest.

#1 - Hoff, the main page is located at www.misslousports.com

#2 - Gill, nobody cares about you either!!!!

#3 - Issac Hayes in dead, does that mean that Chef is dead too? (South Park reference)

#4 - Bernie Mac is dead, I'm going to miss his show, funny man.

#5 - Where's Jose? I want more Ole Miss news from him!!!

#6 - Has AA Fan Da Man been abducted? His insights are almost always dead on.

#7 - Smurfdaddy will once again post the MPSA Top 5 each week but, remember it's not his predictions, he uses quite a few people to     get this result...so don't blame him. His updated poll is listed below.

#8 - No more girls slow pitch softball? It's about time! I just hope all the old slow pitch summer league ball moves to fast pitch.

#9 - AC & TE - I don't know the overall record but, I would say that TE had the advantage in the 70's, I played them twice (76&77) and they beat us both years. I don't know how many times they played each other before that but, AC didn't play TE again until once in the early 90's and AC won that game. I hope they always play each other, the parents make alot more of this rivalry than the kids do, heck, most of them are good friends.

#10 - What does truecolt look like in her bathing suit, I ain't seen it, please somebody post this for us all to see. Unless it's disgusting!

#11 - The Olympics are fun to watch, I don't care what the Natchez Newspaper editor says, this is AMERICA by gosh and if you don't like or support the young men and women from our country that are competing for US, then get a ticket and fly out of here!!!!

#12 - For the last time, here's how it works....If somebody says something on The Board that offends you, simply put "Remove Post" it might not always get removed but, it will go under consideration if it is slanderous. Also, don't call or e-mail me, I ain't around a computer most of the time anyways. If the site bothers you real bad, DON'T READ IT!!!!!!!! Most of the junk that gets started is from kids posting stuff and watching adults go crazy over it all. Now, who's the mature one here?

#13 - Scrimmages and Jamboree's are just that and nothing more, we will not know who will be the champions in 12 or 13 weeks from now by the outcome of these pre-season games....so get over it now before it even starts.

#14 - If you would like to write a column for the Main Page, please send it by e-mail to me, if you would like your name to be omitted from the article, just say so.

#15 - Joey will be doing Trivia again and I have no idea how it will play out since we have so many from MS & LA on board now.

That's all I got until next week or whenever I get back to the computer again, ya'll have a great week!!!!!!!!

Well, schools out for summer and it's time for everybody to sit back and relax and get ready for football season and as always, I won't be updating the main page until football season gets cranked up. It's always pretty slow on "The Board" every summer, thank goodness anyways for that! Hopefully next year we can reflect on past behavior and try to be a little more civilized before we type a post that could be held to ourselves. You have to remember that "what goes around, comes around" People's jobs and reputations are at stake and it's easy to hide under a alias name in your secure job and maybe cost someone theirs! All it takes is a little thought to yourself saying, "What if that was said about me?"

They'll be no Trivia during the summer but, Joey usually keeps sending me his News and I'll keep that updated. As a matter of fact, I've been gone for a couple of weeks and he has two weeks of it on his link above.

Ya'll have a great summer and I'll catch ya'll on The Board!!!!!!!!

Name the two Cathedral pitchers who combined for a no-hitter against Bogue Chitto in 1999. Answer: Richard Edgin and Christopher Martin. Winner: Joey Martin.

Bonus Questions

Name the Oakland A's player who hit a fly ball that hit the Metrodome roof and never came down in 1984. Answer: Dave Kingman. Winner: Adam Daigle.

Who was the first SEC softball All-American? Answer: Trinity Johnson of South Carolina. Winner: Joey Martin.

Who lost a chance to medal at the 1984 Olympics when she tripped and fell after contact with Zola Budd? Answer: Mary Decker. Winner: Dave Myers.

Joey's Trivia must have been too hard last week, there were several wrong answers to questions that were never answered and at least Penny Daggett got half of the main question right but, she didn't get all of it and that's how we play the game!

Cathedral evened up the series at their place and I guess that the reason they played at Canton Academy on Saturday was for a neutral site? I really don't know the real reason, sorry. But it sure seemed like a heck of a game and Preston Edwards pitching the entire game on one days full rest is unbelievable! A questionable called "Ball" that would have sent the game into extra innings was the difference in the contest as this loaded the bases and the next batter walked to bring in the winning run and end the game. I was told that the questionable call was so bad that even the batter was leaving the box because even he knew it was a strike. What a shame but, umps are human too and maybe he had something better to do that day than go into extra innings. Congratulations to Cathedral on a great season, Coach Beesley does a fantastic job with the young men dealt to him every year.

Sergio Garcia wins the Tournament Players Championship at Sawgrass, it ain't no Major but, it's the next best thing! I tell ya what though, I never heard of Paul Goydos before but, I like this guy, his attitude and humor all through the final day was admirable. I hope he wins a major, Golf needs a good ole boy like him to represent the PGA.

The ACCS girls softball team bowed out of the State tournament but, they scratched and clawed their way a long way before ending their season. Coach Rick Fife always has these girls ready to play and does a great job getting them ready every year.

I watched Centreville Academy's Matt Tolbert play last night on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball. Matt plays for the Twins and they played the Red Sox, Matt popped out his first at bat against Tim Wakefield, struck out the next time and grounded out the 3rd at bat. That's all I remember as I was flipping back and forth between the basketball games also. I know that Matt entered the game batting just  shy under .300 for the season. He played 2nd base last night but he has played some short also.

Any high school baseball player that has talked to scouts and received interest should thank Matt Tolbert and Lane Mestepey (Central Private) because down here in Southwest Mississippi, we never saw any scouts, not many anyways but, these two young men were never drafted out of high school by MLB and when these two started tearing it up in the D-1 college ranks, baseball figure heads started chewing on some Scouts butts!!! My son was a sophomore when these two guys were Seniors and after that year, we saw scouts at almost every game! Also about Matt, my son could never strike him out, he told me that Matt owned him and that's saying alot coming from my sons' mouth because he was about as a arrogant pitcher as there ever was. Heck, he struck out Juan Gonzales and stared him down when he was walking off the mound!!!!!! Those of ya'll that know Christopher would understand that better than most, let's just say he was cocky and leave it at that.

I'll be heading to Pearl River C.C. this Thursday for the JUCO regional tournament, the winner will advance to the JUCO World Series. Since Meridian changed to Division 2, they have not made the trip the big show in Millington, TN. Christopher wants this really bad because this is the last year for Meridian in Div. 2 and this means that he could be a part of a team that went to the Div. 1 World Series playing, Div. 2 coaching and hopefully back to Div. 1 coaching.

This coming Thursday there will be a banquet here in Natchez at the Community Center for "Outdoors Without Limits" Kurt Thomas started the "Wheeling Sportsman" which was later joined with the National Wild Turkey Assn. Well things weren't happening the way they were supposed to and Kurt left the WTF and started this organization that helps handicapped people get back to living by hunting, fishing and just enjoying the outdoors in any capacity. There will be food, entertainment and an auction. For more information, you can call Jim Bob at 601-597-6658. If you've ever supported any organization before, this one really gives back!!!!

Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch up with ya later!!!!!

What baseball player was known as the Human Rain Delay? Answer: Mike Hargrove. Winner: Jim Salley.

Name the pitcher who homered in his first at-bat and tripled in his second at-bat but finish with a career batting averaged of .084. Answer: Hoyt Wilhelm. Winner: Joey Martin.

In 1977, who became the first women's basketball Kodak All-American from an SEC school? Answer: Patricia Roberts of Tennessee. Winner: Joey Martin.

In 1970, this Oakland player struck out nine straight times. Answer: Rick Monday. Winner: Joey Martin.

Cathedral's title chase got extended from Saturday because of rain so, they'll travel to Stringer today for game 2. Cathedral leads the series 1-0. Best of luck to the Green Wave.

So I don't get another smarty pants reply from Martha.....Franklin County plays at Sumrall today with the series split and the winner advancing. Although Franklin County is not one of the 5 local teams I try to cover in here....Go Bulldogs!!!

Vidalia's very own Jarrett Hoffpauir (Playing with the AAA Memphis redbirds) has currently played in 28 games with 99 at bats, scoring 11 runs with 28 hits, two doubles, 6 RBI's, 11 walks, 14 K's and one stolen base. His on base percentage is .345 and his slugging percentage is .343. His batting average is .283 and he is the son of Pam Hoffpauir.

I could only find out that former Natchez High player Nook Logan is playing for the Las Vegas 51's but, I couldn't find any stats on him on their site, if anybody knows where I can find them, please let me know.

Is Joey's Trivia too hard? So many unanswered questions. Should I tell him to make them easier for ya'll?

Andrew got the Main trivia question but, even I knew that one!!!!! And I maybe know 2 a year.

I played in the Joe Fortunato Celebrity Golf Classic this weekend at Duncan Park G.C here in Natchez and they had a big turnout for the event. I played with Craig Jackson, gene Jackson and Tripp Bryant, we shot 55 on Saturday but we didn't do as well on Sunday shooting a 58. But all of our players had a Jackson connection, the first two are obvious, Tripp's mother was a Jackson and I use to listen to the Jackson 5 !!!! Strange coincidence huh?

Christopher called me last week as they were fixing to start the JUCO State Tournament, he said they played Gulf Coast C.C. first, I always remembered that they were a good team, he said not this year that they were down and didn't have much pitching. Meridian got 10 run ruled. But they came back and beat Hinds the next day, Northeast the next and then beat Itawamba and Pearl River to win the State Championship. Even all the years of little league, high school and even win they went to the JUCO World Series, he never has been a part of a State Championship, so now he's gotten that monkey off his back. Meridian advances to the Regional Tournament that starts next week at Pearl River C.C. with the Winner going to the World Series in Millington, TN.

If you have Direct TV, you can now watch Redneck Adventures almost anytime, we are on channel 611 on a new station called "The Pursuit Channel" It's mostly all hunting and fishing and I hope you Direct customers enjoy it.

That's all I got, I'll catch ya'll on the Board!!!!!

Name the first school to have its men and women's basketball teams reach the Final Four in the same years. Answer: In 1983, led by Vern Fleming, the Georgia Bulldog basketball team, coached by Hugh Durham, stuns the college basketball world with an 82-77 victory over defending national champion North Carolina, a team that featured Michael Jordan and Sam Perkins. That victory came on March 27 in Syracuse, N.Y. in the East Regional Finals, and made the Bulldogs only the third SEC team to earn a spot in the Final Four. Andy Landers' women defeated North Carolina, Indiana and Tennessee before losing to Southern California in the semifinals of the Final Four held in Norfolk, Va. Winner: Alan Whittington.

Who was the first SEC football team to be voted No. 1 in the AP poll? Answer: In December, 1951, Tennessee becomes the first SEC team to win the AP football national championship, finishing the regular season with a 10-0 record. The vote was taken before any bowl game (UT lost the Sugar Bowl to Maryland.) Georgia Tech (No. 5) and Kentucky (No. 15) also finish in the top 20. Winner: Chuck DeWeese.

Baseball play-offs didn't come out as some expected here in the Miss-Lou.... ACCS, Trinity, Vidalia lost out in the first round but, we still have Cathedral in the hunt, I'm not sure about Natchez High, I've been gone and I haven't heard anything on them except that they finished #2 in their district and went to play Hattiesburg last week. Best of luck to the Green Wave as they play to bring in another title.

Joey's News is updated from last week, check out what all Joey's been up to...I didn't mean that as a short joke!!!

The NBA play-offs are in full swing and I just can't get into them right now, ever since Michael Jordan quit playing, I just can't get back into Pro ball. I will watch the Finals but, that's about all I can muster anymore.

Did ya'll see the 40 foot plus that Adam Scott rolled in on the third play-off hole yesterday? Scott has been having trouble closing the door in regulation but, he does have 6 victories to his credit and I think he's only 28 years old. I think we'll see him on the victory table many more times though.

Hunting in Albany, Texas last week was rough, they had a drought a couple of years ago and it hurt the bird population. We saw and heard quite a few jakes which will mean hunting should be back to normal next year. But on the last day of hunting, I got me a Rio Grande turkey with a 8-3/4" beard and 1-1/8" spurs. That evening I shot a 300 lb. plus hog at about 250 to 300 yards with a .223 rifle, which was way to small a caliber to be shooting this size of a hog but, I aimed at its neck and fired. The hog ran off and we watched it until it went out of sight....that was the last time we ever saw it again. We watched the video and I missed the neck and hit it in the upper shoulder. This hog was too tough for that rifle to bring him down. If he dies, it's OK, because hogs are a problem in Texas and most all of the ranches out there wish they were all dead.

Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll later!!!!!

Which American League shortstop was the elected starter in the 1977 All-Star Game? Answer: Rick Burleson. Winner: Marty Stamper.

I really thought that someone from Cathedral would answer the main trivia question, but Joey wins AGAIN!!!! Maybe ya'll have better luck this week....maybe?

I don't know how long it has been since EVERY school in the Miss-Lou has made the play-offs but, of the schools that are covered on here, everyone of them has made it this year. That speaks volumes for the talent that is spread out between 5 schools in a low populated area. Is there another area in the state in our size that can say the same thing? I think not. It takes dedication from the players, coaches and their families to keep this standard where it is here in the Miss-Lou. I've seen so many young talented players skip summer baseball because momma and daddy promised them that they would spend a week or two at the beach or some other vacation spot, if junior didn't play summer baseball. It makes me want to just throw up!!! So hats off to all of those that allow their kids to PLAY in the summer, it can pay off!!!!

I read where Vidalia could host a home game but the seeping water from the river has their field in jeopardy, hopefully one of the local schools will allow them to play at their complex. You just gotta love that LHSAA baseball play-off system, one and gone!!!

I was wrong about Jerry Rice throwing out the first pitch last weekend, it's this weekend at Meridian. And for a good story I'll pass this on......I told Christopher (my son) to ask Jerry if he can still catch BB's shot out of a cannon in the dark. because back when Rice played at MS. Valley State, they asked their coach Archie Cooley, "How does your team score so many points?" Cooley said, "Because I got a quarterback that can knock the head off a donkey from 60 yards and a receiver that can catch BB's shot out of a cannon in the dark." I can't wait to hear what Rice's response is going to be on that one!

I'm headed to Madison, MS in the morning to play golf in the Hospice Ministries Tournament at Annandale C.C., we've sponsored this event since we started Redneck Adventures and it's definitely one of the best charities that we participate in.

I may be headed to Texas for some Rio Grande Turkey hunting this Wednesday, but I'll be back by the weekend, hopefully with some good film and a bunch of birds! I still got the fever!!!!!

Best of luck to all the Miss-Lou teams in the play-offs!!!!!!!!!!

Ya'll have a good'un and I'll catch up with ya's later!

4/7/08

Ferriday and Vidalia High have retired three football jerseys combined. Name those numbers and who wore them? Answer: Vidalia is No. 5 (Darnell Pharr) and Ferriday is No. 42 (Nathaniel Williams) and No. 61 (Walter Johnson). Winner: Joey Martin.

Bonus Questions

Who was the first baseball team to have three generations of players from one family in their program? Answer: Cincinnati Reds _ Mike Bell, Buddy Bell, Gus Bell. Winner: Joey Martin.

Name the Vanderbilt Commodore who was drafted in the 2nd round by the Milwaukee Brewers in 1986. Answer: Mark Ambrose. Winner: David Boydstun.

Where did the term "Red Dog" come from in reference to the blitz? Answer: It came from the first man to attempt one: Don (Red) Ettinger, a linebacker for the New York Giants from 1948-50. Winner. Dave Myers.

Who were the first SEC athletes to appear in the Olympic Games? Answer: In 1936, LSU's Slats Hardin and Georgia's "Spec" Townes participated in track and field events. Winner: Joey Martin.

Who won SEC individual golf title in 1952? Answer: Alabama's Bobby Hill. Winner: Marty Stamper.

Can you believe it? Joey stumped ya'll on HALF of the trivia questions and ya'll even have wikipedia!!! I'd be embarrassed. One person did get half an answer on the question about the first SEC athlete at the Olympics, but that ain't how we play the game!

Joey must have been really bored at work last week, he sent me this weeks trivia and next weeks!!!!

I haven't watched much baseball this year, it seems I'm always either out of town filming or some other plans for the evening have me away from the ball parks. And I love watching baseball. But I have been keeping up in here thanks to all of ya'll that are posting your teams scores and insights into the games...plus I have the Democrat and Clarion Ledger at home. Anyway, it looks like around home here that all of our guys are in play-off contention. That's says alot about our talent here in the Miss-Lou and, oh well, our coaches too.

I haven't really  heard about any schools that are just over the top better than others this year, in the MPSA it's going to be a pretty good overall. This could be another year that even a small class A school could be in the thick of things. Even in the public schools I haven't heard of a team that is on cruise control, but I could be wrong but I could be right!

I pretty much thought that Memphis would be playing for the National Championship but, I really didn't Kansas was playing that good in the play-offs, and I was surprised that they beat N. Carolina. But the teams that had two big men have triumphed! Should be an interesting game and I'm pulling for Memphis.

I filmed the 5th annual Jugging Tournament at Eagle Lake this past weekend on Eagle Lake. Even after a tornado caused major devastation around the Lake on Friday, there were 9 teams participating. The weather was a bit chilly but all the teams were pretty competitive with the winning team catching around 60 lbs of catfish.

I ain't going nowhere this week, so I'll be hunting that elusive gobbler all week.

Ya'll have a good'un and I'll catch ya'll on here!!!!!!!

The free meal on Doc at Lil Dagos Trivia question: This pitcher from Notre Dame High in Biloxi tossed 12 no-hitters from 1959-61. (You better start digging Doc). Answer: Chris Taranto. Winner: Eddie Brewer.

This will be my last post on this site.....for this month. These first 3 months have flown by fast! I hope ya'll like the Quote of the Week, it's actually a sign that is on the coach's desk.

March Madness was a good one and all four #1 seeds are in the final four. I don't think that's ever happened before? Davidson had their shot and I mean that literally and a fine shot it was, it got nothing but glass! Kansas looks beatable to me and North Carolina doesn't. Memphis has so many weapons that they could easily take it home as well. We'll just have to wait and see.

I traveled to Meridian this weekend to watch MCC take on Holmes C.C., in the first game HCC was up 3-1 in the bottom of the 4th when the rain came pouring down, after a short delay MCC took the plate and racked up 15 runs en route to a 16-3 finish. In the nightcap HCC jumped on MCC early and won 14-2 in 7 inn. I got to see Vidalia's Jordan Brewer play for HCC and he's still the same ole scrappy player he was during his playing days for the Vikes!

Local baseball action is heated up with everybody playing conference foes. AC & Trinity are headed in the right direction for the upcoming play-offs. Cathedral whooped up on St. Al and that's always a bonus for the Green Wave. Vidalia is winning games and taking numbers and Natchez High has a few wins under their belts. Should be some great games to watch around the Miss-Lou.

I done went and got the Turkey Flu! They told me is was contagious but I didn't believe them. Now all I can think about is dad gum turkey hunting and I need a place to go!!! (hint, hint) I did get to film a turkey harvest over at Glasscock but now it's MY turn to bag one. I never thought I'd enjoy hunting something as much as turkeys but after watching one come in it got my blood heated up.

Joey's News is updated from last week and he had 2 trivia questions unanswered last week and they don't look any easier this week.

I'll be headed to Eagle Lake this weekend for the annual Catfish Jugging contest. The festivities before and afterwards will take place at the world famous Lo-Sto. This store has been a fixture on Eagle Lake for many years and there will be plenty of entertainment following the event.

Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll on The Board!!!!!!!!!

Bonus Questions

Name the former Columbus Lee pitcher who won 60 games from 1984-87. Answer: Ronnie Richardson. Winner: Marty Stamper.

To compete in sprint car races at age 14, Jeff Gordon had to move from his home in California to what state? Answer: Indiana. Winner: Eddie Brewer.

Wow!!! Joey finally gets swept. It's been awhile now since that has happened in the trivia but, it's done! I got a feeling that is may happen two weeks in a row if somebody can get the last bonus question correct.

Hats off to Johnny Lee Hoffpauir on putting two tournaments together that feature LHSAA, MHSAA and MPSA schools competing in baseball. This was the second weekend that this has happened and I believe it's good for all involved. I did hear that there was one incident involving an out of town team that thought their batter was hit by the pitcher and that team eventually lost the game. But that's baseball. The biggest thing that surprised me was...we had good weather!!!! I hope we will see more of these type tournaments in the future...good job Hoff.

ACCS wins 2 of 3 in their first conference match-up over River Oaks...I think. So many "River" Schools, it's hard for me to remember them all. So  it could have been Riverfield or Riverdale. Sorry AC fans.

Cathedral smashed Resurrection, good batting practice for the Greenwave as they scored more than 30 something runs in the two games that I read about...or close to it!

Trinity won two of three in the Vidalia tournament and when they start conference play, I believe they will be one of the teams to beat to advance in the play-offs.

Vidalia continues to win, year in and year out, they find a way to win and it is a tradition across the river!

I played in the Natchez Adams County Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament last Thursday and the team I was on didn't place but, we didn't come in last!!!! We finished at -13 (59) out at Beau Pre' C.C. and ......we were the only team that got a golf cart stuck in the mud. If you've never played Beau Pre' C.C. I highly recommend you get out there and play a round, the course in in great shape during this transition time. If you're looking to join, they have some great incentives right now...tell them I sent you.

I'll be heading to Savannah, TN this Thursday for the annual St. Jude "Hunting for a Cure" Turkey hunt. We should have around 100 kids participating in the event and as always, all proceeds go directly to St. Jude's.

Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll later.

Who was the 1st woman to earn more than $1 million play tennis? Answer: Chris Evert. Winner: Brother Sandifer.

In what state was the first miniature golf course opened? Answer: North Carolina. Winner: Eddie Brewer.

Only Johnny Lee Hoffpauir can schedule a baseball tournament and bring snow!!!! I was out of town but, it looks like they got it in anyway...despite Hoff's jinx. I only hate that I wasn't here to witness the first ever time that LHSAA, MHSAA & MPSA teams were matched up to play, at least here in the Miss-Lou. After reading some of the post about the games, it looked like there were tight matches between all the schools involved, and as a bonus, I didn't read anywhere that Hoff threw his hat! I only hope that this is the first of many tournaments that we'll get to see, hats off to Hoff for putting this together.

Boy How I'd love to share with ya'll about the meeting between Jarrett Hoffpauir and Tony Laruso (sp?) but, I can't get any information about the conversation they had, maybe somebody will pass it on to me....hint, hint.

OF Nook Logan signed a minor-league contract with the Dodgers, according to The Sports Xchange, but he was not invited to big-league camp. He probably will play regularly at Class AAA Las Vegas, but he could see major-league time this summer if the Dodgers suffer an injury.

Please post your games on The Board daily so everybody will know what games they can go out and watch and at what time. This will help people that don't have schedules....like me!

Joey's trivia got knocked out pretty quick last week, except for the main question, and I thought some Cathedral grad would snag that one up.

Joey's News is now updated from last week, I was gone OK?

I attended the Louisiana Sportsman's Show in Gonzales this past weekend and I about froze to death on Friday. The show was a huge success with thousands in attendance each day. We had a great time but, my feet are aching!

Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya on The Board!!!!!!

Wow!!!! Joey gets 3 trivia questions unanswered.....and he went to alot of trouble to post such elaborate details on the answers too! Well this weeks trivia may be easier for ya'll.....good luck.

MRA boys wins the Gold Ball and I don't care what league you're in, that is the ultimate quest for MPSA Basketball. Also congrats to the PCS girls, this could very well be the beginning of a dynasty here ya'll.

Jarrett Hoffpauir makes his first appearance in ESPN's Top Plays of the Day, it was his drive to the outfield that was snagged for an out that made the play but, we'll take them any way we can right now! Also, it was a sac out and it put the Cards up by one and that was all that was needed for the "W"

I read a great article about former Vidalia ace and now USM ace Barry Bowden, he's getting it done for the Eagles as their Friday go to guy. He pitched a heck of a gem  last Friday and struck out most everybody on the team at least once! Keep it up Barry, you're making us proud.

Meridian C.C. swept Delgado down in New Orleans over the weekend which included a 10 run ruled first game. The second game saw Meridian down by two runs going into the top of the seventh, a hit and a walk put two base runners on and the next Meridian batter hit a bomb that put MCC up by one and that's how the game ended.

We just finished the 2nd annual Armadillo Round-Up and the winning team captured 18 dillers, 2nd place got 8. We raised over $2,000 for the Shriners' Children's Hospital. This organization will pay for a needy families child expenses if they are injured. No questions asked. Last year, the money we raised helped to fly two children to Texas to the burn center, so we know that this is a good cause.

Well it's officially baseball season now and I'm ready to see some action here in the Miss-Lou. Please keep us informed of your games during the week so we can watch them.

Ya'll have a great week and I catch ya'll later!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hale Irwin was a 2-time All-Big 8 defensive back for what school? Answer: Colorado. Winner: Walt Brown.

We had some good basketball teams in the Miss-Lou this year and I really thought the Natchez High girls would make some noise in the play-offs but, that's basketball. Cathedral hung in late this year and played some gritty ball. The Trinity girls did a fantastuc job on the hardwood and surprised many an opponent. But so far the best has been the Trinity boys, they fought hard at State but a good Brookhaven Academy team slipped by them. But now it's time for Overall and Trinity will face Delta tonight and if a victory is sealed up tonight, I think they'll be playing a hot handed Hillcrest team next. Good Luck Saints!!!!

Thousands of baseball players have played through the systems here in the Miss-Lou, and we've only had one in recent years to play in the Majors, and that is Nook Logan. But we have another that is chewing on the heels of being the next one from the Miss-Lou to make it to the Bigs... Vidalia's own Jarrett Hoffpauir....he's practicing with the Big League'ers right now and hopefully he'll get a spot this year. His numbers are solid and his desire is even stronger, it has to be to go through the minors at the small salary they get. But I've always heard that behind every great athlete is another great athlete, and I've been told that Jarrett's mother Pam was a solid ball player in her time, I heard she played alot of softball and had quite of an arm. So that explains the reason why the younger Hoff has such great abilities...it makes sense to me!!! On the other hand, I've never heard of anything his father has done athletically....I know I can't hurt Johnny Lee's feelings because, he is always asking...."What Main Page?" So he won't see this!!!!

I didn't post anything on here yesterday because I went down to Glasscock Island to do some Rabbit hunting, well it was too dang hot, we had to run the dogs next to the water so they could stay cooled off!! That didn't work too good either because when we tried that, we killed 3 cotton mouths!!!! After that, I hunted from the road, in case any rabbits jumped out of the woods and ran the extra 300 yards to where I was at!!! Total Bunny count for the day...........2

The AYA link is updated with all the past scores and also the Tournament bracket for all grades.

Joey's trivia got hammered quick last week but, he gets to keep his head high because nobody got the MAIN question correctly.

That's all I got for this week, I'll catch ya'll later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"He still plays better than Keith" question: What career Grand Slam winner had an endorsement deal with Wilson from 1923 until his death in 1999 at the age of 97? Answer: gene Sarazen. Winner: Dave Myers.

Congratulations to our own home team Trinity Saints for wrapping up the South State Tournament. Now forget about that and move on to the next goal of winning State!!!! Did I remember this right? or did I have a dream about people saying that the move up to AA would be the demise of Trinity athletics? There's just something about winning and tradition that go hand in hand and Coach King and his players just know how to get it done!! Love them or hate them, it just doesn't really matter. Congratulations to the Saints. Next up, the Saints travel to Grenada and Kirk Academy for a shot at the State Title. Good Luck Guys!!!!

I read all kinds of negative statements on the Board, and it's usually after one team loses. Somebody has to take the blame. Now i don't know all of the people that get mentioned but, I do know one of them....Coach Melanie Hall, you will never find a coach that is more dedicated, motivated and desires to win than this lady. I've known her since we were kids (yeah, she's old too) and she was as much as a competitor then as she is now!!! ANY parent, player or fan that thinks otherwise is a total lunatic and doesn't know squat about basketball!!!! Congratulations to the Lady Saints on  a fine season.

I'm a day late getting this news out as we just got home yesterday from Meridian C.C., we got to see MCC play 2 games on Sunday and they won both and upped their record to 4-4 on the year. MCC will be moving back to JUCO Div. 1 next year and have already signed about 11 players for next year. Christopher was telling me that under some new NCAA rule that all college's can only have 25 players on their roster. So MCC picked up 3 kids from USM, 1 from Ole Miss and another from Miss. State. Some will have to sit out this year. But the future at MCC is looking pretty good! They should be back in the running sooner than expected.

Alot of high school baseball on tap and I couldn't be happier, there's just something about the game that keeps you going back. We should have some quality teams in the Miss-Lou this year and I'm ready to get my fix. I heard that Vidalia has a boy on their team that's so fast that he can lay down a bunt and get a double, now that's fast!

Joey's Trivia last week must have been to hard for ya'll, I'll tell him to make them easier, look how many didn't get answered!!!

The AYA link is updated with the scores from the last two weeks.

We had our annual Redneck Adventures Squirrel Hunt this past weekend and we got it in despite all the rain that pounded through on Saturday morning. I was filming with a group out at Kingston and it had quit raining, we got about 2 miles back in the woods when the bottom fell out and also some very nice lightening was hitting all around. So my group called it quits for the day. You see, I', allergic to lightening. There were a few groups that got 3 or 4 squirrels but, if you read the paper Sunday evening, you saw where one group smashed the rest with 19 squirrels and 2 coons! They said they didn't get much rain up in Jefferson County. We still had good food and entertainment and a good time by all in attendance.

Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll later!!!!!!!!

Name the CO-MVPS on the 1973 District 2-AA All-District team. Hint, one was from Vidalia and the other went on to play at LSU. Answer: George Cupit and Warren Trimble. Winner: Joey Martin.

Bonus Questions

Who homered to win the 1976 American League pennant? Answer: Chris Chambliss. Winner: Adam Daigle.

Who was the first woman to play with the Harlem Globetrotters? Answer: Lynette Woodard. Winner: David Boydstun.

Who threw the halfback pass to Andy Hamilton for 62 yards to give LSU a 21-20 win over Auburn in 1969? Answer: Buddy Gilbert. Winner: Dave Myers.

Name the only non-human who was honored in Sport's Illustrated "40  For the Ages" anniversary issue. Answer: Secretariat. Winner: Johnny Lee Hoffpauir.

Name the NBA Player who returned from retirement to win MVP honors in the 1992 All-Star Game. Answer: Magic Johnson. Winner: Tim Cottrell.

It's good to be back home and I've scrambled through the Board trying to figure out what's happening with the basketball standings to see who is where and what time? There were too many post to try and figure that one out so, I'm just going to say....Good Luck!!! As always, there is a screwed up bracket and I don't know why the MPSA can't remedy this situation. I don't think it's because they are trying to get one team or another further into the play-offs because that would just look bad when the big dogs come ready to play. Nobody wants to see a rout of another team deep in the play-offs, at least from a spectator point of view. There should be some good basketball coming up and excuses should be left outside the gym.

I watched the Super Bowl at the Riviera Casino, it was one of the few places that didn't charge you to sit down and watch the game. I know that everybody has already heard every excuse known to man why the Patriots lost. But mine is simple......The Giants defense controlled the ballgame from start to finish! New England never got comfortable when they had the ball and that was due to an excellent game plan by the defensive coordinator and some pretty nasty guys up front that followed his directions. Hats off to the Giants.....but I still don't like Eli.

The Shot Show was everything it was built up to be, they just keep getting better every year. So when we departed last Tuesday morning, all I had time to do was get home and go to bed and get up the next morning and head to Denham Springs for the Grand Opening of the new Bass Pro Shop. There were alot of celebrities at the event, Jeanette Lee (The Black Widow) put on a pool exhibition. One of the guys from Lynard Skynard was there (he didn't do anything) 6 or 8 pro Bass fisherman were there, including Bill Dance, Jimmy Houston, Rick Clunn (sp?) Two Nascar guys and we sat upstairs in the hunting department at a table with Will Clark, Ben McDonald, Jerry Martin and Bill Jordan. I've been to about 4 or 5 Bass Pro Shop stores including the main store in Springfield and none of the ones I've seen compare to the one in Denham! They built cypress trees all through the store complete with limbs stretching out from all sides with moss hanging from the limbs, it looks like a typical Louisiana swamp. And this place is BIG, about 30,000 square foot bigger than the one in Pearl, MS. Once the traffic wears down, ya'll need to go see this place.

We're having our annual squirrel hunt this weekend and I'll be preparing for it the rest of the week. I may be heading out after the squirrel hunt to go catch some Tuna down at Fourchon, so I'm not sure if I'll be back to update next Monday morning.

Ya'll have a great week and travel safe going to the basketball tournaments!!!!

Name Bobby Marks' assistant coaches at Thomas Jefferson. Answer: Charles Kennedy and Richard (Tricky Dick) Brown. Winner: Glenn Carroll.

Bonus Questions

Who holds the record for most passes completed in a bowl game by an Arkansas quarterback? Answer: Kevin Scanlon completed 22 passes against Alabama in the 1980 Sugar Bowl. Winner: Eddie Brewer.

Name the football player who led the SEC and the nation in kickoff returns in 1953. Answer: Max McGee of Tulane averaged 21.8 yards per return. Winner: Joey Martin.

Name the only two Alabama coaches to beat Auburn in their first meeting. Answer: Gene Stallings and Dennis Franchione. Winner: Gill Morris.

Name the player who caught the two longest passes in the SEC in 2006. Answer: Robert Meachem of Tennessee had an 84-yarder against Memphis and 80-yarders against California and Kentucky. Winner: Dave Myers.

As you can tell by my weekly quote, I've been having withdrawals because of inclement weather and not being able to play enough golf! So when I saw a break last Saturday, I broke for the golf course.....and yes, it was wet, really wet! But I got my fix!!! I also played Sunday evening and there were even more addicts out there then, our game had 18 players! The most I've played in out at Beau Pre' C.C., I played better Sunday but not good enough! At least I can relax more now that I've got a couple rounds under my belt.

I was going to go out to Trinity and watch them play Brookhaven but, I got side-tracked and didn't make it. Then I found out that both varsity game were won by 2 pts. each, TE boys won and TE girls lost in double overtime! I had a gut feeling these were going to be good games and I missed out!

There are a couple of new posters on The Board that I have really been enjoying....Leonard's Loser's and Jose. Ya'll do a great job of writing and I look forward to reading your stuff every time it hits The Board. Keep it up!

Super Bowl Sunday!!!!!!!!! I can't wait but, at least I'll get to watch it in Las Vegas with a bunch of screaming people around. I like screaming too! So this could get interesting. I'll be attending the Shot Show and won't be back until next Wednesday.

Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll when I get back!!!!!!!

1/21/08

I'm starting the trivia this year, we'll get back to Joey doing it after this week. So here are the RULES for just this week only. (1) The answer might not be correct but, it has to be according to me. ( I got that from Joey) (2) No rewards for winning. (I got that from Hoff) (3) No writing on the walls. (I got that from Barney Fife) So here we go..............

Who is also known as a Logger Headed Rattle Trap? (Hint: Ron Krause is his idol) Answer: Bill Darsey. Winner: Glenn Carroll.

How tall is Johnny Lee Hoffpauir? (Hint: 5'2 or 5'3) Answer: 5'2 with 3" heels. Winner: Glenn Carroll.

What are the items called that Joey wraps his newspapers in on rainy days? Answer: Thingies. Winner: Bill Darsey.

JoJo Eidt is skinny. True or False? Answer: True. Winner: Moby Dick.

How many aliases does Doc Fungo have? Answer: The world may never know. Winner: Keith Rayborn.

What do you think about Gill Morris? Answer: Who Cares. Winner: Dave Myers.

How many yards of fabric does it take to make Glenn a shirt? Answer: 3.5 acres. Winner: Charlie Mascagni.

Martha is a true blonde. True or False? Answer: Hahahaha. Winner: Glenn Carroll.

What is Michael McAnally best known for? Answer: The Pop It. Winner: Keith Rayborn.

tom (that's how he's known on the board) is really Les Triplett. True or False? Answer: True, but reincarnated to love MRA. Winner: Keith Rayborn.

AA Fan Da Man really gets all his information from btown. True or False? Answer: False, he gets it from Wikipedia. Winner: Dave Myers.

Smurfdaddy really is blue!!! True or False? Answer: False, he only turns blue when his team loses. Winner: Gladney84.

Craig Jackson and Chad Harkins are the same people posting. True or False? False, Craig can't type. Winner: Keith Rayborn.

What professional sport is Joey Martin best known for? Answer: SlamBall...although Doc Fungo said Midget Wrestling and/or Midget Tossing. And Glenn said Tall People racing.

How many times will Johnny Lee Hoffpauir throw his hat down this year arguing with an ump? Answer: Multiply games played times 3. Winner: Keith Rayborn.

Gill Morris really wants to be Buddy Wade. True or False? Answer: Gill Morris IS Buddy Wade. Winner: Keith Rayborn.

My Bolts are out but, they put up one heck of a performance against the 18-0 Patriots. Their defensive scheme to prevent the long ball worked and they had to throw in the flats or underneath the linebackers to get any years. The biggest threat in the game though was the running of Maroney, he is a man child, and with the Patriots lining up an extra tight end, the Chargers didn't have an answer for them. Of course I'll always wonder what could have happened with a healthy Rivers, Tomlinson and Gates. But I ain't crying...much, we have a young team and Norv Turner seems to have gotten better than years past.

The Giants beat the Packers and I think most of America wanted to see Brett Farve in the Super Bowl. What a game though, back and forth with the lead changes, this is what post season play is suppose to be like. I can't believe we have a different Manning in the Big game this year. Poor ole Archie never made the big show but both of kids have! I guess I'll be pulling for the Pats since I hate Eli. What a scenario we could have had if the Chargers could have played the Giants in the Super Bowl. It would have even more better if the Chargers would have beat them by 4 or 5 TD's so the San Diego faithful could say...In your face Eli!!!!!!!!!! But, oh well, maybe another year.

Everybody is invited to watch the Super Bowl with me on Feb. 3rd, of course the party will be held in Las Vegas, NV!!!!! RSVP please.

Like I said last week, I'm heading out tomorrow to Duck hunt with Jonathon Papelbon and I've been practicing my River Dance techniques and I must say, I'm pretty good! Now Jim Bob, that's another story.

My son, Christopher Rayborn was a graduate asst. at Meridian C.C. this last Fall and he has now been named as Assistant Coach at Meridian C.C. and his duties are pitching coach and recruiter. Christopher just signed 11 players on the National signing day and it was the most ever at one time at Meridian. This will be the last year for Meridian to play in the JUCO Div. II. Next year they will go back to Div. I. The biggest difference is that is Div. I, Meridian can go out and recruit any player they want. No district lines in state and they can have more than 4 out of staters. Plus, it gives Meridian the chance to go back to playing in the World Series in Grand Junction, CO. We were fortunate enough to get to go there both years when Christopher was playing there. I'm looking forward to going back over to meridian this Spring and watch some ball.

That's all I got for this week, ya'll have a good'un and I'll catch ya'll on the Board!!!!

1/15/08

Another year gone by and I haven't aged a bit.....it's a miracle!!!!! The past year was one for the books as far as this website growing to another level....70,000 to 80,000 people a month log on to this Sports Soap Opera. I hope everyone enjoys it in the long run because the rumor mill never stops turning. So don't expect much change on the ole Board.

Locally, we have a couple teams that are burning up the hard floor....Natchez High girls are getting it done and I'm kicking myself for not getting to the gym to see them play.....also the Trinity boys are on a tear and have beat some quality teams.

This is the time of year that basketball starts to get good for me, each game can mean alot towards the play-off scenario's, and also the teams are gelling and playing better quality basketball. Each week you'll see more and more teams decide their destiny.

You've been sitting there reading my trivial writing, just wondering when I'm going to bring up the San Diego Chargers, haven't you? Well....now it's time.....BOLTS BABY, BOLTS BABY, YEAH, YEAH ,YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh everybody just loves Peyton Manning and those cute little commercials he does (and at the rate of every other commercial nowadays) All the so-called experts wrote off my mighty Thunderbolts because they were playing the defending champions and they wanted to see them win it all again. But I guess they experts were wrong because when our boys hit the field, they were playing the role of underdog and that's a good position to be in at this time of year. Next up....the New England Patriots, I wonder what the Experts will say this week? Don't worry, I already know. L.T. and company will be ready come game time....and so will I!!!!!!

Brett Farve is getting old, problem is, nobody has told him! He's still got one of the strongest arms in the NFL! I remember when he was younger, he would bounce passes off his receivers chest he threw so hard. He looks like he is having a blast out there, I hope it's between Green Bay and San Diego in the Super Bowl.

I'm not a Eli Manning fan but, I just think I hate the Cowboys worse, I never have liked them. Romo was changing my mind about his playing abilities, he was really shaping into a quality QB, but the last few weeks, well.....maybe it was Jessica Simpson's fault, the coaches did tell the team to stay off their feet!!! I hope Green Bay crushes the Giants and Eli throws 5 or 6 picks and fumbles 3 or 4 times. He might be playing a week longer than his brother but...he ain't no Peyton!

I was in Missouri last week hunting Deer and Turkey with my bow, no luck.....we saw plenty of both but just not in arrow range. Missouri has some nice deer, I saw some does that weighed over 200 lbs.!!!! They say that's not unusual up there. So you can only imagine what the bucks look like....large and alot of antler mass.

Redneck Adventures will start airing on Dish Network beginning Feb. 8th on channel 230, it's a new station called "The Pursuit Channel"

Next up....we're going to the Mississippi Delta next week to film a Duck hunt with Red Sox closer Jonathan Papalbon. You know we'll be doing the Riverdance somewhere in this show!

Thanks to everybody that helps make this site what it has grown to be, without ya'll, it wouldn't be any fun!!!!

Lots of updates this week including the Outdoors link, MPSA Top 5, Joey;s News and I get to add Antarctica to the places that people have posted from, on the Board.

Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll on the Board!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
