Can ya'll believe it? This time next week will be Christmas Day!!! Geez this year went by fast and it won't be long now before we start 2007 but still put 06 on the checks we write....that's always the hardest thing for me to get use to!
Basketball will be played over the Holidays, but mostly Invitational Tournaments. I'm not sure who all will be host but just about everybody will have a few games to keep the rust off. Besides, in my opinion, the real games don't start until after the first of the year, that's when every game counts towards the big play-off picture.
But the best part of the holidays (as far as sports go) is Bowl Time!!!!!!! On some games, I just hope that in some way the BCS system can get screwed up enough so everybody will complain, maybe one day in the near future they will institute a play-off system....hopefully!!!
How bout dem Saints? We were sitting out at Beau Pre' yesterday and I told some folks that New Orleans would lose against the Redskins....it was just time. Especially after such a big win last week. New Orleans have the Giants this week, wouldn't surprise me if they lost again! But I'm pulling for them!!!!
How about my Bolts? I figured they are about due for a loss, but LT won't let them. He rushed for 199 and 2 TD's. Rivers was just plain out OFF last night but, the stingy defense kept the Chiefs under a 100 yds. rushing. Final score - Bolts 20 Chiefs 9.
Plenty of Pro Ball during the holidays.... First off, a good game tonight as the Colts take on the Bengals. Vikes and Packers on Thursday night, Chiefs and Raiders on Saturday, the regular schedule on Sunday and a doubleheader on Monday as the Eagles play the Cowboys and the Jets play the Dolphins.
Other Stuff
Not hearing much about quality deer being harvested lately, it's been better golf weather then deer hunting. But I'm not even hearing about many numbers of deer being brought in!
I hunted at Buck Island a couple weeks back with my buddy Doc Hicks, we got in a big ole box stand about 3:30pm on that Friday evening and had probably been there about 15 min. when we saw a deer, it looked kinda small but just then, its momma walked out behind it....Doc asked, "Do you want me to shoot it or wait?" I said, "Wait for what?" So when I told him that I had it in my frame (You know I was filming) He took the shot and nailed it. We were back at the camp with the deer by 4:10pm. Now that's my kind of hunt!!
We were invited to Rifle Point this past Thursday & Friday, and although the weather was not in our favor, we still got to see a few deer but none that were shooters. But the food was excellent and the accommodations were superb. I got to see a few guys that I hadn't seen in quite a few years and talking about old times is always fun.
That's about all I got for this week and I'll be taking next couple weeks off for the holidays. We'll start the trivia back up then also. So until then, ya'll have a safe holiday, a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year and remember what this holiday season is really about, the one that makes all of this possible...Jesus!!!!!!!!!

Name three of the four teams to win the first MHSAA championship using a playoff
system in 1981. Answer: South Natchez, Rosedale, Hamilton

Not a good way to wake up this morning, when the phone rings that early at my house, I always get that cold chill, especially when you have a kid that's not at home. But this morning it hit close to home when I found out that Barr Brown, Jerry Roberts and Justin Cardneaux were killed last night in a plane crash. I had gotten to know Barr & Jerry better than I had, when they hosted the Barr & Jerry Show every Saturday morning on 107.1 FM. I had called in to the show quite a bit and even went on the air with them a few times. These two guys were promoting local high school football and did a great service to the community. I grew up with Justin and I had booked him to fly us to Kansas a few weeks ago but something came up on his end and he couldn't go. Now I wish he could have gone so we could have spent some time together. My prayers have already gone out to the families of these men, they will surely be missed.
Barr & Jerry used to live on this board in the early days, especially Barr, and I can't find it in myself to write about anything else this morning. Please take a moment of your time right now and pray for them.

Young, Don Horton and James Joplin. Winner: Joey Martin.

Name the Alabama quarterback who holds the record for most TD passes in a game.
Answer: Gary Hollingsworth tossed five against Ole Miss in
1989. Winner: Eddie Brewer.
Name the LSU quarterback who holds the record for most passes in a game.
Answer: Josh Booty with 58 against Auburn in 1999. Winner:
Shane Martin.
Trivia was great last week, I got alot of answers to all the questions but, nobody could correctly get the main question. It was a good one and it would probably have taken someone knowing one of these players to get it right! Good job Joey!!!!
Trinity wins State! If you didn't already know this, you've probably been hiding under a rock for the last week. Congratulations to Coach King and his staff for preparing these young men and guiding them to a memory that they'll never forget and one they will cherish the rest of their lives.
Before I go any further, I have to make a comment about some of the threads on "The Board". I'm sick of hearing about how good or bad Trinity would have been with or without Steven Ridley. #1- He's there and he's been there, he's worked hard to become a bigger, faster and better player. ALL schools have had a player on their team that at one point or another, made a huge difference on their teams outcome of play. So why beat this dead horse so much? I can answer that....jealousy...plain and simple! There's not a coach out there that wouldn't love to have a Steven Ridley type player on his team. So let's move on!
I know I don't cover Franklin County on here but, I have to give them congrats on winning State as well. Good job guys!
High School Football is all but over except for the All-Star games. Congrats to those that are participating and best of luck to your team.
College Football is heated up and it's bowl time. I'm glad to see that the BCS moved Florida up to the Title game with Ohio State, I didn't want to see them play Michigan again. LSU and Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl, this should be a dandy. Michigan against USC in the Rose Bowl? After USC lost to UCLA? Gimme a break, I'd rather see Boise State get that shot! Boise will play Oklahoma in the Fiesta. Louisville and Wake in the Orange Bowl....I may be napping during that one.
The Saints steamrolled the 49'ers 34-10, Duece had 136 yds. and the President had 131 yds. and a TD.
How did those Manning boys do this week? hmmmm. Eli lost 23-20 to the Cowboys and Peyton lost 20-17 to the Titans....give'em some more advice Archie!!!!!
My Bolts pulled one out over the Bills 24-21. LT had 178 yds. and 2 TD's. That's 18 over the last 6 games!!!!
High School Basketball is being covered well on The Board, plenty of scores and updates and even predictions. Keep up the good work ya'll....it sure makes it easier for me, there's just too many games for me to cover them all.
I was out over the week end celebrating my 25th wedding anniversary.... I know what ya'll are thinking too.....she's one lucky lady!!! We spent the weekend in Philadelphia, MS and we went to see Gretchen Wilson on Friday night, now I ain't a real big country music fan but, she sang everything...including some rock and roll, she sang "Baracuda" by Heart and it sounded exactly like the lead singer from Heart! I didn't realize how much range Gretchen had...I enjoyed it thoroughly!!!
Ya'll have a good'un and maybe I'll see ya'll around the ole hardwood court sometime this week.
11/27/06
Another week and another step closer to becoming MPSA Class A State Champions for the Trinity Saints. A great crowd was on tap last Friday night for a game that many thought would be a great one but, alas, another blow-out by the Saints. Now then for my take on the game. First off, I thought River Oaks uniforms were the best I've seen EVER! Other than that, it was all Trinity. When Ridley went down with an ankle sprain, you could see the faces of those around him wondering just how bad could it be! But let me tell ya'll something and I'm serious as a heart attack.....Trinity didn't miss a beat without him in there!!!!!! Talent showed up from many TE players including Matthew Freeman, who stepped in and ran the ball extremely well, Wells Middleton did his share for the offense but a young freshman (who I think is still 14 yrs. old) that his teammates call "Juice" stole the show!!! R.J. Fleming will be a name ya'll will hear for many years to come, you can just go ahead and replace his name with Ridley's for next year. The kid doesn't weigh much but he runs and moves and alludes tackles better than ANY freshman at any level I've ever seen. So if Ridley isn't 100% on Thursday night, don't worry Saint fans, it will be alright. Another thing that I'm guilty of not mentioning this year as well as many other sports writers is the fact that the Saints have a dang good defense...point in case for those that thought Ridley was the sole defense also, With Easom being hurt, Ridley had to move out and guard receivers and the Saints defense didn't miss a beat, they have some hosses up front and it showed last Friday night. I don't know anything about Kirk Academy but I'm betting on my Saints in this contest! Best of luck to all the players and coaching staff, get out there and show'em what Natchez is all about!!!!
College Football
LSU over Arkansas in a great contest but, Arkansas still plays for the SEC Championship.
Ole Miss over MS. State 20-17....I think they had close to 300 people in attendance, not real sure though.
USM over Marshall 42-7....We Are Marshall just didn't come out in time to fire them up...I guess.
Pro Ball
The Saints win again over Atlanta 31-13, it really was a much closer game until late in the game. I still don't trust the Saints, I like em but I don't trust em! Maybe having the ex-charger Drew Brees is the difference, he was 21 of 30 for 349 yds and 2 TD's with a 131.1 rating. This dude is on FIRE!!!!! Although with all the records he's broken over the last 5 games, they've lost the majority of them! Maybe that's the Saints curse?
Eli got beat by the Titans...hahahahaha 24-21...hahahahaha
The Colts offense the last few games to me looked really pitiful, but not yesterday, they whipped off 45 against the Eagles in a very boring game. Of course, the Eagles were without a number of key players including the QB!
Packers and Seahawks tonight on MNF.....yawn!!!!!!!
Now for the real game of the day....8-2 San Diego vs. 2-8 Oakland....my Bolts almost got beat!!!! Thank goodness for L.T., he rushed for 2 TD's and threw for the other one! River was a pathetic 14 of 31 for 133 yards and a pick and a very poor 44.2 rating. Even in the midst of his worse game, the Chargers still won and improve to 9-2 on the season.
Other Stuff
We didn't have any trivia last week, I'm pretty sure Joey took some much needed time off, he usually gets some new tires for his bicycle this time of year and just a normal maintenance check. I'm not sure if got the streamers that hang from his handle bar grips or not, I know he had been requesting them for quite some time...maybe Santa will get his some instead.
Mathew Guedon harvested a nice 8 pt. Thanksgiving evening with a 19 and a half inside spread out around Church Hill.
Thursday night at MC will be the MPSA State Championships for Class A & AA and Friday night will be the MHSAA State Championships and I believe they will be at Memorial Stadium. generally the MHSAA is broadcast on PBS television. Trinity's game will be broadcast on 107.1 "The River" I think game time is 1pm.
Best of luck to all the teams and remember to drive safely to and from the games!
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch up with ya'll later!

Name the former Riverfield Academy quarterback who received a
football scholarship at LSU as a kicker. Answer: Don
Barthel. Winner: Hunter Adcock.
Bonus Questions
What former high school football player holds the record for most receiving
yards in a game? Answer: Jasper Lee of Delta High School
in Mer Rouge, La., had 414 receiving yards against Oak Grove in 2000. Winner: Eddie
Brewer.
What former high school football player holds the record for most interceptions
in a career? Answer: Baron Jackson of Southern Lab had 62
from 1984-87. Winner: Eddie Brewer.
Trinity Episcopal is still in the hunt! After blasting Glenbrook last Friday night, they have one more team standing in the way before they reach the finals, and that team in defending Class A Champion River Oaks. The house will be rocking down in the pit this Friday night as a huge crowd will be present. My advice is to come early to get a good parking space and a decent seat! Best of luck to the Saints!
Basketball season is here and already several games have been played. It's really hard for me to cover all the games so, I'll probably just cover the ones I see and give ya'll my re-cap of the games. Of course, basketball season doesn't really start until January, that's when things really heat up and each game seems to mean more and more towards play-off implications.
College Football
Arkansas beat MS. State....Wow, what a surprise! Arkansas will play for the SEC Championship.
USM won....whoopie!
Auburn over Alabama, by far the best sign I've seen this year, a cartoon picture of a Tiger holding up four fingers and it reads, "Beware the Thumb" We'll the thumb showed up as Auburn has now beat Alabama the last 5 years! Can you say "Goodbye Shula?"
The game of the night was Ole Miss vs. LSU, a game that had everybody thinking it would be a blow-out by LSU! Well I guess them Rebels thought different and played the game of their career last Saturday night down at Death Valley. Thanks to a last minute TD by the Tigers to take it to overtime and a Rebel fumble in overtime, the Tigers got the victory by a field goal. The #9 in the nation Tiger fans are going crazy and are so proud that they beat the Rebels, who by the way aren't ranked in ANY polls. Now as most of ya'll know, I don't really have a favorite college team, I like all the SEC teams but, don't talk trash when you beat Ole Miss barely! I've said it before and I'll say it again....Miles and Ogeron(sp?) ain't college coaches!!!!! Coach "O" is showing now becaue he didn't have anything at Ole Miss when he got there. Miles real abilitywill show up probably starting next year, he's just playing with Saban's recruits, and good one's they are!
Pro Ball
I told ya'll them Saints were going to let ya down!!!! Geez, they looked horrible yesterday, Brees had the worst game of his career and until the Saints get some DB's, they will continue to get burned down deep! In case you didn't know, they got beat by the Bengals 31-16.
The Colts are no longer undefeated! They got beat by the Cowboys 21-14. The Colts offense just hasn't looked the same the last few games, I don't know what's going on internally?
How bout my Bolts? They marched into Mile High stadium and thumped the Bronco's 35-27. Rivers was 19 of 26 for 222 yds. and 2 TD's....LT carried the ball 20 times for 105 yds. and 3 TD's!!!! Not bad for a small market team eh?
Monday Night Football - Giants at the Jags.......Go Jags!!!!!!!!
Other Stuff
I missed the Trinity/Glenbrook game last Thursday night because I had to attend the area Ducks Unlimited banquet at the Natchez Convention Center. The crowd for this event was down and I'm sure why some of it was but, I hope things pick back up for this event next year. There were some real bargains there the other night!
Joey got swept on the trivia last week, I really thought that it would be a tough one but, Eddie showed up and pounced on 2 of them quickly!
I'm going to give one of them "Shout Out" things to tom for updating the basketball scores on The Board, that has to be really tough to find all those scores each night. You da man tom!!!!!
AA Fan Da Man is suppose to pick some basketball games this season and I'll keep his link up for ya'll to keep up with as well.
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll later!!!!!

In 1982, Trinity had two running backs rush for more than 100
yards and score two touchdowns each in a 31-6 win over False River Academy. Name
them. Answer: Mark Purvis and Kerry Kaiser. Winner:
Michael Brann.
Bonus Questions
Who holds the high school football record for most receptions in a career?
Answer: 302 by Abram Booty of Evangel. Winner: Joey
Martin.
What team holds the record for most penalties in a Super Bowl game?
Answer: Dallas had 12 against Denver in 1978. Winner: Joey
Martin.
Another Friday night and one team advances while the others start playing basketball! Now only Trinity is still alive in the play-offs here in the Miss-Lou, or at least the teams I cover in the Miss-Lou. So on to Friday nights games.
ACCS lost to Bowling Green, BG has played some good solid football the last few weeks and may be peaking at just the right time. Congrats to the Rebels on a fine season!
Cathedral lost to Lake but, they really impressed some folks this year with that run and gun offense! Congrats to the Green Wave on a terrific season.
Trinity just plain out spanked North Delta like a redheaded step child last Friday night but, I have a feeling it won't be as easy this coming Friday night when Glenbrook comes to town. The Saints will have to play error free ball against a team that's seeking revenge for years past! best of luck to Trinity! Remember, this game will be on Thursday night at TE.
College Football
The good news is.....Ole Miss and Miss. State did not lose last week!
LSU over Alabama 28-14...not much difference in this score and Alabama's score with Miss. State...that's scary!
USM over Tulane 31-3...what happened to Tulane? They should be better than this!
The BCS bids have needed to be tested and this may be the year! Ranked teams are losing and the early losers are gaining ground! For example....Although Florida won, it was only by one point over South Carolina, Rutgers beats Louisville, Kansas State beats Texas and there's two weeks left and next week pits #1 Ohio State against #2 Michigan! It's going to be interesting ain't it?
In the SEC Championship, I see Arkansas against Florida, with Florida winning last week, they should move up in the ranks, but in the SEC Title game, if Florida loses, what in the world could happen then? If Arkansas runs the table, it's possible they could be playing for a National Championship! Of course, my son Christopher says that Notre Dame will be there! Oh so many possibilities! But this is what makes it all worth the watching each week this time of year!
Pro Ball
I done told ya'll bout dem Saints! They were just setting everybody up for a big ole meltdown. Sure they got beat by the defending Super Bowl champs but lately, the Steelers have looked more like chumps!
My Bolts won in a high scoring affair yesterday over the Bengals and Phillip Rivers is evolving into a great QB chunking 3 TD passes and his sidekick LT had 4 TD's....not bad for a small market team eh?
The Colts squeezed one out over 17-16 over the Bills to remain the only undefeated team in the NFL.
Bears 38 - Giants 20...hahahahaha, who's there QB?
Find something better to watch on TV tonight because Monday Night Football has the Bucs and Panthers on tonight, what a sleeper!
Other Stuff
Wow, everything's updated while I'm finishing this off! I was out of town when Joey sent me his weekly column so, it's updated now. The trivia has been stumping people lately and this weeks stuff is even harder!
Redneck Adventures went to Southeast Kansas to "Show Me Birds" for some Pheasant hunting. They shoot around 63,000 birds a year at their facility, and a top notch facility at that! The birds they raise are genetically enhanced to fly just like in the wild and I'm here to tell you that they fly like bottle rockets! We had a blast..literally! You can look them up at www.showmebirds.com Book a trip with these guys and you'll have the time of your life.
The Natchez Chapter of Ducks Unlimited is holding their annual banquet this Thursday night at the Convention Center. Not a really good night that they picked, maybe they will change it!
OK, this past weekend was opening gun season for youth, if you have any stories or pictures, please e-mail them to me. This coming weekend starts the regular gun season, so send me news and/or pictures about your deer. And as always, remember, safety first!!!!
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll later!!!!!!
11/5/06
No trivia last week but, Joey said he'll get back on top of things this week. Pretty much any time we have rain, Joey gets busy putting those thingies on the papers....that and the front fender on his bicycle is missing and it throws water up in his face.
Good Goodlie Goo!!!!!! I attended the Trinity/Porter's Chapel game last Friday and it was a barn burner! But it took awhile in the making. Trinity burns about 6 minutes on their first drive and scores. PC gets the ball and the QB looks like he ain't never thrown a ball before in his life...(dying quail), so they punt back to TE and they drive down and score again to make it 14-0. At this point I'm wishing I had went to the Central Private/Brookhaven game. PC intercepts 2 passes and makes two more drives and it's 28-14 Porter's Chapel!!! PC gets the ball first after halftime and they're marching and I'm thinking, "If they score on this possession, I'm out of here!" Then the fun begins. It turns into a who will score last situation and with time running out, Trinity scores to go up by 6 and then it happens, a missed field goal...BUT, there's only 1:29 left on the clock right? What are the odds that PC can work the ball all the way down the field and score? But I was worried about that missed extra point. Sure enough, it happens and they score and make the extra point to seal the deal. And by the way, the Porter's Chapel QB that looked so horrible on that first drive, I think he was just setting everybody up because he's got a rocket! and some good receivers to boot. No play-off implications in this contest but, surely a game for the ages!
Adams Christian makes the play-offs by soundly whooping the Rams of WCCA. Best of luck to the Rebels this Friday night.
Cathedral had an early lead but, turnovers and a powerful Mercy Cross team pulled out the victory. Cathedral starts play-offs this week also and I wish them luck also.
Natchez High ended their season Friday night against Hattiesburg in a close 12-10 ballgame. I really thought that this one would be pretty lopsided but these Bulldogs have played up to another caliber this year. Great year guys.
Vidalia's hopes of any play-offs were erased as Ferriday rolled over the Vikings 21-12. Congrats on the season.
I'm not real sure who plays who but I think ACCS will travel to Bowling Green, Cathedral will travel to Lake and Trinity will host North Delta. I'm pretty sure this is right though.
College Football
Miss. State beats Alabama 24-16....but I heard that the Alabama's bus had a wreck on the way to the game and that all the players on the field were really in the band!
Ole Miss rips Northwestern State 27-7.....who is Northwestern State anyway?
Kentucky beat Georgia 24-20....hahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!
LSU over Tennessee 28-24!!!!!! A Shocker! I didn't think Les Miles had enough brains to win a big game, maybe it's because he's still playing with Saban recruits!
USM over Memphis 42-21......Didn't Ole Miss struggle with this early in the season...when everybody's healthy?
Pro Football
The New Orleans Saints notch up another victory over the Bucs 31-14!!! I'm still not giving in to them, I KNOW they're just setting everybody up for the big choke!
My Bolts barely escaped the clutches of a mediocre ball team by winning over Cleveland 32-25.
The shootout that everybody was waiting for happened last night and Peyton & Co. prevailed 27-20 over The Brady Bunch.
Other Stuff
I ain't typing a bunch of basketball schedules, I ain't a good typerperson so, e-mail me your teams schedule so I can cut and paste them and I'll get a link set up. I already have Huntington's.
AA Fan Da Man's link has been updated above, in case you missed it on The Board or in case it runs out on The Board.
I'll be heading out this Wednesday (If we drive) or Thursday (If we fly) to Baxter Springs, Kansas to hunt Pheasants at Show Me Birds Hunting Preserve. They put out over 63,500 birds last year and hope to put out even more this year. Of course I told him he would since we were coming, heck we could probably shoot that many with our eyes closed! If we drive over there, we may stop back in Arkansas and try our hand at a little fly fishing on the Bull Shoals River with a good buddy of ours that manufactures Hook Hider fishing rods. of course, I'd rather fly, I hate driving, I just ain't got any patience anymore.
Until next week, ya'll have a great week and best of luck to all the teams in the play-offs!!! Later Ya'll!

Name the WCCA running back who rushed for 301 yards against Pine Hills in 2000. Answer: Stephens McVea. Winner: Tyler Burns.
Bonus Questions
What two high school hold the record for most consecutive
state championships? Answer: Honolulu St. Louis High with
14 and Sioux Falls Washington (South Dakota) Winner: Joey Martin.
This Mississippi high school quarterback passed for 3,579 yards in 1996. Name
him. Answer: Romaro
Miller. Winner: Joey Martin.
I attended the Cathedral/Bogue Chitto game last Friday night and first off, I have to congratulate ANYBODY that was in the stands from either school, it was freezing cold, the wind blew extremely hard which made it even worse, so to sit through that game was a struggle in itself!!!!! OK, On to the game where I was in the press box nice and warm (and even warmer standing next to JoJo)....More offense than defense in this game, no offense to either team or maybe both offenses were just that potent! Although Cathedral did have the advantage in take aways and this proved to be the key to their victory. McDonald has turned into a very proficient passer for the Greenies and I don't know his stats but, I do know this, he hit a few guys dead in the hands and they were dropped! This offense is fun to watch, the ball could go anywhere! Defensively, Cathedral needs to work on giving yards up, up the middle...the 4-4 defense was taking advantage of by Bogue Chitto and that is where I saw most of their yardage coming from...remember, this is just my opinion and I ain't nobody!!! It just looked kinda obvious to me as a bystander. I believe that this game assures Cathedral of at least a #3 seed in the play-offs, a win next week could elevate them to the #2 seed, Mt. Olive has a strangle hold on the #1 spot.
ACCS breezed by Tensas last week and I don't think anybody was surprised, a must win next week for a play-off spot...maybe.
Natchez High fought hard and had a good chance of beating Wingfield last week, Wingfield is a good team and the Bulldogs need to learn from this game for the upcoming one this Friday, it should give them the confidence to know that they can play with the best of them!
Trinity edged out Centreville in a game that I thought the Saints would easily win. Thank goodness for the time clock as the Tigers left it on the 6 inch line as time expired.
Vidalia wins over Madison and THE GAME is this Friday night, any hopes for play-offs are at stake in this one!
Friday Night Games
ACCS at WCCA - A win carries alot of weight towards the play-off picture but, the Rams aren't any slouch and could upset the Rebels if they are looking ahead to next week's chances!
Cathedral at Mercy Cross - Another very tough game that the Greenwave needs to make the first round play-off game easier. I'm only hearing good things about Mercy Cross, this one should be a slobberknocker!
Natchez High at Hattiesburg - I think it's away, not sure but...the Tigers are tough and it'll take everything the Bulldogs can muster to pull this one off!
Trinity host Porter's Chapel - The Trinity defensive secondary will get their first real test this week, Porter's Chapel QB is supposed to be very proficient in this part of the game. Of course we'll see if PC has any answers to TE's running attack ,won't we? The only other team that I've seen that had a good running back was Central Private and the rebels beat Porter's Chapel earlier in the year. But I think they'll play the game anyway!
Vidalia at Ferriday - The Vikings only hope of making it to the play-offs and they have to go through Ferriday to get there...this ain't no easy task as the Trojans look to have it this year, they've been explosive on offense and stingy on "D", the Vikings will need more than skill to pull the upset, they'll need a little Lady Luck!!!! ( and I ain't talking bout no gambling boat!)
I was going to drive down for the Brookhaven/Central Private game this Friday night but, with Porter's Chapel coming to town, I think I'll just stay put right here and see what this PC team is all about!
I get many phone calls and Friday night either wanting scores or giving me scores, if you're interested in knowing the "goings on" on Friday nights, write down this number and give me your scores and I'll give you mine....601-597-3624, you don't even have to tell me who you are, if'n you don't wanna!
College Football
Mississippi football is horrible...The End!!!!!
Pro Football
The Saints blew it, I knew they would, it was just toooooo good to be true!
My Bolts win over the Rams and will face a tough Browns team next week!
Other Stuff
Joey almost swept the Trivia, I didn't even get a close guess at the others.
AA Fan Da Man's picks are red hot and updated on his link above! And he also says the AA play-off picture looks like this.....
| *Copiah at Riverfield
*Adams at Bowling Green
*Centreville at Brookhaven
*Porter's Chapel at Central Private
Make your plans to attend any of these games....in other
words "Book em".

I went Quail hunting yesterday with Wesley Bruce and Rex Archer over at Thornhill's Shooting Preserve, it's around Jayess, MS...back in the boonies!!! We had a blast and hunted ALL DAY! My feet still hurt...who says I don't get enough exercise?
That's all I have for this week, until next, ya'll have a good'un!!!!!

win? Answer: Steven Conley. Winner: Joey Martin.
No Tom Jones music but Friday nights game between Trinity and Huntington was everything it was built up to be....Period!!!! Now here is my analysis of the game and remember, I ain't no expert, so if you don't like what I say here, go dig and hole and cover yourself in it! Huntington did a great job of containing Ridley....for the most part, and the hound defense was better than I thought. Trinity had 2 opportunities early and Huntington shut the door on them. The worst thing for Huntington in this game was, they couldn't score...I know, they had 7 pts. but, it was an interception that brought the ball down to the 10 yard line and after a penalty, it was on the 5...two plays later, HHS scores. HHS moved the ball one time that was memorable in the second half, but that was thwarted by the Saints. The Dunbar kid from HHS is a tough runner! TE played much better on "D" than the last time I saw them play (Central Private) I think Trinity needed these types of games to get ready for the play-offs. Honestly, if the Hounds can knock off Glenbrook & River Oaks, we may see a re-match of last Friday nights game on down the road. Great game and great sportsmanship by both teams, I was on the sidelines and saw players from each team helping pick guys up off the ground. Great atmosphere, does anybody have the number that was in attendance?
ACCS got thumped...plain and simple! It looked like Porter's Chapel just had too much air power for the Rebels and when you're a ground oriented team and you can't stop the pass, it's always going to be a long night for your team.
Cathedral smokes Salem...that's pretty bad huh? I wonder how many times that has appeared in the paper over the years? The Greenies are in high gear and the play-offs are in their sites!
Natchez High didn't let the Homecoming Queen disrupt their duties on the field as they dirt rolled Forest Hill. This team has their eyes on a play-off berth!
Vidalia enjoyed watching their Homecoming Queen, it didn't matter! They blew Lake Providence out of the water in this one!
That's alot of puns!!! Well, I was 4 and 1 last week, I thought the Rebels would pull the upset, so on to this weeks picks......
Friday Night Games
ACCS host Tensas - All I can say is, the Rebels better win this one! They need all the power points they can get!
Cathedral host Bogue Chitto - I know BC has had some great teams in the past but, the Greenwave is rolling!
Natchez High at Wingfield - If the Bulldogs stay away from turnovers, they can win this game but, no mistakes!
Trinity at Centreville - Centreville is coming off a tough loss to Central Private, Trinity takes this one easily!
Vidalia at Madison Parish - They better get last week out of their heads or this one could get ugly!
How do you like this weeks predictions? Vague and unsure sounding, huh?
I wish all the area schools the best of luck this coming Friday night, play-off implications are at stake for almost all of them. It just goes to show everybody, what kind of talent we have here in the Miss-Lou!!!!!
College Football
Ole Miss - Blasted
Miss. State - Blasted, I know it was only a few pts. but at this stage of the season, it might as well be!
USM - Blasted
LSU - Did the Blasting!
I'm sticking with my theory!!!!
Pro Football
My Chargers got beat by the Chiefs!!! Life is not good right now!
The Falcons/Steelers game was fun to watch, Vick chunked for 4 TD's and Hinds Ward had 3 of em!
The Saints didn't lose!!!!! Of course they didn't play either.
The Cowboys and the Giants tonight on MNF...can't wait, ride'em Cowboys!.....did I mention that I don't like Eli?
Spent the weekend at the Balloon Race in my camper, I think I enjoyed about 2 hours of it, the rest of it I was either cold or wet!
How bout that AA Fan Da Man???/ He got em all right last Friday night. And heck, I ain't even met him or know who he is, maybe he'll introduce himself to me down the road. He's doing a great job and is an asset to the Board!
tom, as we know him on the Board, doesn't even know how much people enjoy him staying up late and posting ALL the MPSA scores. He doesn't get paid and he doesn't get thanked enough. I've met tom and he's a really nice guy. He has his opinions on his other post and guess what? We all do!!!! Great job tom!
Another unsung hero is Joey Martin, he provides Trivia and his Sports Column EVERY week, and has been doing so as long as this site has been running...how long has that been? I think I started this site in 2001? Doc Fungo probably knows....he knows everything, if you don't believe me, just ask him! hahahaha
And a final thanks to my Board monitors, I can't always be around and ya'll do a great job of removing post that need to be.
Geez, after all that, I feel like I'm going away or dying!
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya later!

Who was the first team Natchez High beat in its first season
following consolidation in 1989? Answer: Natchez defeated
Bastrop High 13-0 in its very first game. Winner: Ivan Evans.
Bonus Questions
This football player now turned high school coach played for Bear Bryant, Bill
Parcells and Joe Gibbs. Name him. Answer: Jeff Rutledge.
Winner: Joey Martin.
Who is the all-time postseason saves leader in baseball?
Answer: Mariano Rivera. Winner: Walt Brown.
Well, I got 4 out of 5 on my predictions for last Friday night, I missed the AC game....I guess since they've gotten back some key players from the injured reserve list, things may be turning around for the Rebels. I couldn't help but laugh when I heard that Brookhaven ran back an interception 100 yds. as time went off the clock for the first half.....I know how much Bobby hates to throw the football and when something bad happens when they do throw it, Bobby always said, " Three things can happen when you throw the ball and two of them are bad!"
What can I say about this coming Friday night, I'm not even sure if any other games in town will have any spectators!!!! Will the Trinity/Huntington game be everything that it's cracked up to be? Trinity gets to play the role of underdog as they are the #3 team according to the rankings. Will it rain as much as the weathermen are predicting? Could this be an excuse for either team on the outcome? Will it be good referees or bad ones? Will home field advantage be a factor? Will the announcer be obnoxious? Will Trinity play more Tom Jones music? All these things add up!!! I just can't wait until Friday night.... I'll call this game "Knocktoberfest 06".......p.s. - Be there early for good seats, or better yet, bring your own chair to set up on the hill.
Friday Night Games
ACCS at Porter's Chapel - AC's healthy and the spark is back!
Cathedral at Salem - Cathedral smokes'em! Salem goes up in a puff of smoke! Salem loses by a "lot"....I could go on and on!
Natchez High at Forest Hill - This hill won't be tough to climb! These dogs is hungry!
Trinity host Huntington - The wrong team will be howling after this game! I'm going to blame it on the Tom Jones music!
Vidalia host Lake Providence - The Homecoming Queen will be much prettier than this game..... happy feet at the the dance !
Ole Miss almost upset Alabama in overtime, this may save the Big "O" his job! Nah, he ain't going anywhere anytime soon. Miss. State gets a big win over powerhouse Jacksonville State....with these two wins, both improve to 2-5 on the year! USM over Houston and their record goes to 4-2. LSU improves to 5-2 after their win over the mighty & powerful Kentucky.
Georgia loses to Vanderbilt!!! and I'll tell you why, before the game Vanderbilt players were telling Georgia players than Pi-R Square and Georgia was confused because they knew that Pie is Round! and in the confusion, Vandy slipped by them 24-22.
Auburn beats Florida, soooo, I ain't got a clue as to what's going to happen with all the play-off scenario's!!!
How bout dem Saints? A field goal to win it as time expires. I'm telling ya'll, it's a set-up!!!! Just be prepared.
My Chargers look sooo good right now, they're hitting on all cylinders! Rivers is getting better week by week with some very impressive numbers this week...29-39 for 334 and two TD's....LT with four TD"S, and a defense to back it all up! btw...who was it that was suppose to be the QB for the Bolts? I forget!....... Marty-Ball loosened up this weekend also...and about time!!!!
I was at the Ducks Unlimited Shoot this past weekend and they had around 360 shooters competing in the event up in Tunica, MS. They are expecting to gain another 100 shooters for next year. What a spread they laid out for everybody! We got to hunt Quail Friday and Saturday mornings and made a pretty good show with plenty of action....look for it real soon!
The Balloon Race is this weekend and I'm setting my camper up over at the RV park in Vidalia. Hopefully the weather will be better by then and the crowds will be large. Always a great event!
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya later!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Name the Natchez native who played for the Houston team of the USFL. Answer: Arthur "Tank" Berry. Winner: Joey Martin
Bonus Questions
Who was the first Tennessee receiver to have a 200-yard game?
Answer: Stanley Morgan against TCU in 1976. Winner:
Joey Martin.
Who was the first player to score for the Baltimore Ravens?
Answer: Vinny
Testeverde . Winner: Joey Martin.
Joey Sweeps!!!!!!!!! I can't even remember the last time this happened....where's Eddie?
On to Friday night football.....I started out at the ACCS/Franklin game. Franklin had two tackles that were just plain out HUGE! and I mean as big as any two tackles I've ever seen on any high school field....but, they tired quickly and didn't make any noise for the struggling Franklin team. I know they've only had football for a couple of years but, it'll be a lot more before they start winning with the attitudes these players had!
Next I went to the Natchez High/Brandon game, they started 30 minutes later than the AC game, so I didn't miss but nothing but one series by NHS, Brandon drove down the field and kicked a field goal, great defense by the Dogs on this series. So NHS gets the ball and nothing happens, Brandon gets the ball back and makes this TD look easy. So with just a few minutes off the clock , it's 10-0 Brandon and it ain't looking good for the Dogs.
I couldn't stay anywhere long because I had the Trinity/Central Private game in my head and I knew by listening in between rides to games that it was a good'un! I was headed to the Cathedral game until I found them on the radio and it was a blow-out early, so off to Trinity I go. I get there at halftime and as they're crowning the queen (Howard and Sally Jones daughter) Sorry, I can't remember her name. I'm hearing this music from back in the day, when my momma would play it...I think it was Tom Jones "She's A Lady" I thought I was going to hurl...couldn't believe it, surely there's a better, more appropriate song that that...huh? Anyway, this game is a barnburner! Not much defense but, heck, offense draws the crowd anyway. It goes back and forth until it looks like CP is going away with it. But TE come back and they're only one score from tying it back up with just a few ticks on the clock....and then comes the TE fumble...I was down on the sidelines and I could feel the heat from the stands blow down from all the sighs...what a game though, the RB and QB from Central Private were everything I heard and I believe that they can make some noise in the play-offs. I may have to go to Brookhaven Academy when these two meet up on Nov. 3rd.
Congratulations to Coach Ken Beesley on reaching his 200th win!!!!!!!!!!!!! What an accomplishment, and for a great guy.
I told ya'll I didn't know much about Farmerville, but by the name I knew Vidalia would win...am I good or what?
Friday Night Games
ACCS host Brookhaven - I'm giving BA the edge in this one, I don't know if they can keep Sessums under control.
Cathedral host Springer - Usually a pretty good game but, the Greenies have to much fire power.
Natchez High host Jim Hill - If homecoming doesn't get in their heads, the Bulldogs get back on track here.
Trinity at Tri-County - All I can say is....poor Tri-County.
Vidalia host Quachita Christian - QA is a AA private school....I hope the Vikes at least come away without any injuries.
OK, on to college football....here's my suggestion. Let's combine all the major MS. and LA. colleges together next year and maybe we can compete. Arkansas was impressive over Auburn, I knew they were good but, this game surprised me! Tenn. over Georgia was a good game but I kinda figured the Vols defense would be too much for dem dogs.
The Saints win again, although it was against a lethargic team in Tampa Bay, who haven't even won a game, will Chuckie make it through the year at this pace? And what a way for Reggie Bush to get his first TD, a 65 yard punt return for the go ahead score to win the game!
San Diego started out a little slow last night but got Charged up in the second half and gave the Steelers their 3rd straight loss 23-13.
I won't get to see any game this Friday night, I'm headed to Tunica, MS for the Ducks Unlimited Clay Shoot, plus, we're going to get to hunt Quail for a couple of mornings also...and I love shooting them birds!!!
Until next week, ya'll have a good'un!!!!!
10/2/06
Well, nobody got any trivia last week, although it was a short week sooooo, I'm leaving it up there just to make sure that Joey doesn't get a sweep!
ACCS got off to a good start by scoring first and then lost a close one to Riverfield.
Cathedral just had too many McNair's to handle but still gave it a great effort.
Natchez High just plain out got it handed to them by Oak Grove but, I know I expected that...time to re-group!
Vidalia got rolled by Jena....at least they're a AAA school.
Friday Night Games
ACCS host Franklin - The Rebels will get to enjoy homecoming in this contest.
Cathedral host Enterprise - The Greenies get it going again in this one.
Natchez High host Brandon - Wow, two tough games in a row...that's all I'm saying!
Trinity host Central Private - Toughest game on the schedule for the Saints...pre-season exhibitions are over....kinda, except for Tri-County next week.
Vidalia at Farmerville - I don't know anything about Farmerville but, with a name like that, the Vikes have to win.
On to College Football....Ole Miss played Georgia to a pretty decent game but...they still lost! Miss. State forgot to show up for their game with LSU, I think they left their MOJO in the locker room...how embarrassing. At least USM won.
On to Pro Football.... My Chargers got beat!!!! but it was a close game, oh well, at least it didn't look as bad as the Saints performance, the Saints could only get it going late, which makes me wonder....why don't all the teams just play like there's only 2 minutes left in the game? That's always the best part of the game anyways!
It's October!!!!!!!!!!!! Where's Reggie? Oh yeah, he's too old.............playoffs start tomorrow night and the best game in my opinion is the Twins and A's game. That Santana can DEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!! of course, that Zito guy ain't half bad either.
It's Deer season, bows only right now but, please send me your updates on your harvest and if there's an interesting story that goes along with it, pass that on to me as well. Also, send me pictures of your deer or any other game that you get.....hunting IS a sport, I don't care what anybody says! and remember, practice safety in the woods!!!!
That's a wrap for me this week, ya'll have a good'un!

Answer: Center Lewis Wiggins. Winner: Joey Martin.
Bonus Questions
Who was the first drafted player to go on to a hall of fame career?
Answer: Wayne Millner. Winner: Joey Martin.
In the seven NFL Drafts from 1998 to 2004, six quarterbacks were selected No. 1
overall. Who was the only non-QB to earn that distinction during that period?
Answer: Courtney Brown, DE Cleveland. Winner: Tim McCann.
Joey almost got the sweep! Of course we were late getting it out this past week, maybe that's Joey's way to win? lol
Adams Christian won over Oak Forest, I guess most thought this was an upset...either way, winning at Oak Forest has always been tough over the last few years.
Cathedral got to rest more players as they rolled over St. John, and rest is always good for any injuries!
Natchez High lost but, they lost it early by giving up the big plays. It could have been better had NHS not had a punt return TD called back on a penalty but, that's football.
Trinity thought they were in for a football game as WCCA led twice early, then the sleeping giant woke up....lots of PT for the second squad. (PT = Playing Time)
Vidalia also got some injury healing time after they jumped on Mangham early and coasted in for the "W"
This Weeks Games
ACCS at Riverfield - AC"s back on the track and they get another needed win here.
Cathedral at Mt. Olive - If all the McNair's are gone, the Greenies have a chance!
Natchez High at Oak Grove - Loss #2 for the Dogs, but hey, it's Oak Grove!!!!!
Trinity - Open - Their real season starts next week. The primer games are over!
Vidalia at Jena - All I know about Jena is they're AAA and generally have a pretty solid program, Vidalia will have to come ready for this one.
I arrived last Friday night a little late at D'Evereaux Stadium, I guess it's still called that, if they changed the name, I didn't get the memo....anyway, at Cathedral's field as they hosted St John. It was still in the first quarter with CHS on top 21-0. I never made it down the hill, I watched a little more and headed back home. CHS didn't need any help in this one. I listened to a few other games on the radio and was thankful that we had so many stations to cover most of our teams in the Miss-Lou. Of course that takes sponsors to make it happen and I personally want to thank them all.
Ole Miss and State (although State won over UAB) got embarrassed this past weekend, I still think my idea was the best (see archives) .....LSU got a win against a very tough and physical Tulane squad....did ya'll notice any sarcasm in that remark? Mississippi has a chance as USM plays tomorrow night at UCF on ESPN2.
The Giants lost to Seattle 42-30....The Seahawks look like the real deal, geez, who can beat them? I think I saw Eli crying!
The Saints and the Falcons on Monday Night Football!!!!!!!!!!!! I heard a rumor that tickets were selling for $2,200 a seat!!!! This outta be a good'un. I'll be watching it in Hattiesburg with my son and a few of his buddies. And to answer your question...YES, there will be some smack talking going on at his house.
My Chargers, and may I add, undefeated Chargers, were off this week but play next week against unbeaten Baltimore. Eli who?
Ya'll have a great week and behave....best of luck to all the Miss-Lou teams this Friday night. No home games this Friday so, I'll probably just play golf instead.

completed a touchdown pass in South Natchez's 9-0 win over Vidalia. Who caught
the touchdown pass? Answer: Roger Ogden. Winner: Jay
Gousett.
Bonus Questions
Most people know Ken Hall of Sugar Land Texas holds the record for most career
rushing yards, but who is second? Answer: Toney Baker of
Jamestown Ragsdale, NC with 10,241 from 2001-04. Winner: Eddie Brewer.
On December 7, 1969, this second-year Atlanta Falcon back threw for a TD in the
first quarter, caught a pass for a TD in the second quarter, and then ran for a
TD in the fourth quarter. Answer: Harmon Wages. Winner: Ed
Bruce.
Another week of football passes by and I didn't get to see much of any games, oh I passed by the TV set at the Tupelo Outdoor show and got some scores but, nothing like sitting back and getting into the game! Well, at least I have Monday Night Football to watch tonight and as I sit here, I don't even know who's playing!!!!
We still have two undefeateds (is that a word?) in the Miss-Lou, Natchez High and Trinity! Can anybody tell me when's the last time Natchez High was 4-0? This team just keeps showing more and more character....they were down by 21 points and scored 27 pts. in the 2nd quarter....That's just unbelievable!!!!!! As for Trinity, they're just mowing the lawn and not even picking up the clippings, let's hope that these easy games won't make them look past the next opponent, whoever it is each week, they'll play some better teams during the last part of the season and this should get them focused for the play-offs.
Cathedral just blew out West Lincoln and these kind of games early DO help with injuries getting rested, bring in the subs!!!!!!
ACCS & Vidalia ran into buzz saws last week, let's just hope that things will turn around quickly for both of these teams.
Friday Night Games
ACCS at Oak Forest - Rebels get back on track here.
Cathedral host St. John - Should be a slobber-knocker!
Natchez High at Meridian - Gonna be a fun ride home for the Dogs as they go to 5-0 baby!
Trinity at WCCA - After the Ridley show, going to get boring fast as the Saints take multiple knees on every down.
Vidalia host Mangham - The Vikes take this one easily.
I'm through with outdoor shows for this year, so now I'm looking forward to Friday night football and hunting season.
Ya'll have a great week!

Name the only public school in the United States to produce two Heisman Trophy
winners. Note the word public. Answer: Tim Brown and Davey
O'Brien both played at Woodrow Wilson High in Dallas. Winner: Robert Williamson.
SAINTS WIN..SAINTS WIN!!!!!!!! and I ain't talking bout Trinity but New Orleans, OK, OK I know it was Cleveland but, a win is a win and the one-two punch of Deuce and Reggie was billed as advertised! I know I'm getting my hopes up here and I'll probably be wearing a paper bag over my head before too long so, I might as well enjoy it as long as I can anyways! Besides, I'm more of a Charger fan and I'll probably have to break in a new bag for them as well!!!!
The Manning Bowl was great, thank goodness, because had it been a rout, the network would have looked like idiots after all the pre-game hype they put up! But they did have some pretty good stuff from back in the day when both were little chaps. I'm sure we can thank the Manning mom for those videos! Did anybody else feel bad for Cooper Manning last night? They showed him one time early in the broadcast and cut him out every other time after that. Gotta be hard to watch his little brothers do so good knowing he use to probably spank them when they were younger. What does he do for a living anyway, count his brothers money?
Joey got swept, Joey got swept (Use proper playground song for this) and pretty quick too! I don't know why we an extra trivia last week but, it didn't matter! OK Martin, you're gonna have to bring it up a notch!
Great work from everybody that post scores and comments on Friday night games, Tom has always done a great job of getting all the scores posted in his thread, sometimes with help, but it gets done and that's what counts!
I've been enjoying AA FAN DA MAN's weekly predictions, he's 10-1 for the last 2 weeks, but the question is....can he keep it up?
Ole Miss and MS. State need to cancel the rest of their games this year and just play each other, maybe, just maybe, one of them would come out with a winning season!
#1 Ohio State man-handled #2 Texas Saturday night, the Bucs just have too many weapons, Note Dame may be the only team that can hang with them and Notre Dame has a tough schedule ahead of them to even have a chance to play them come Bowl Time.
I missed last week's games as I went to Tunica, MS for a Dove hunt (not many doves flying) and shooting clay competition, but I watched the news and made some phone calls to find out what all happened. AC lost a heartbreaker, Cathedral gets their first win of the season, Natchez High is 3-0, Trinity cruised and Vidalia got their heart broken as well.
This Week
ACCS at Parklane
Cathedral host West Lincoln
Natchez High host Franklin County
Trinity host Tensas
Vidalia host Rayville
I'll miss all the games this week as well, I'm headed to Lambert, MS on Wednesday for a Dove Hunt (a real one I hope, this time) and then on to Tupelo, MS for an Outdoor Show at the Tupelo Furniture Market complex, so I'll be making phone calls again this weekend!
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll later!

Answer: Kendall Trainor (24-27 in 1988. Winner: Joey
Martin.
This former coach was named SEC Player of the year in 1955 and 1956.
Answer: Johnny Majors. Winner: Lucas Smith.
Week One of high school football is under wraps and I only got to see one game, everybody else was out of town! So I watched the Trinity/Copiah game last Friday night. And from what I'd been reading on "The Board" and what I've heard from other people, I figured this game was going to be a doozy! Well, so much for the doozy part unless you're a Saint fan anyways....Steven Ridley dominated this game on offense...at least for the half that he played, Wells Middleton showed me that he has the speed and the hands at wide-out to keep the secondary on their toes as well. On defense (other than Ridley killing opponents) Langdon Morrison was laying the wood also. And for the record, anybody that doesn't think Ridley can play and start and excel at ANY school, is dang right certified looney tunes! If some other big name programs watch some of this past week's game film, he might not be going to LSU! I watch alot of football games, both public and private and the only other player that I've seen that impressed me was Jerious Norwood (Brandon High) and even he didn't have the moves that Ridley does. Steven did a spin move the other night that was just God given talent, I wish everybody could see this on film. Trinity is on the right track with a nice size line and should breeze through Class A.
Although I didn't see this game, I wish I could have beamed myself over to Vicksburg at they hosted Natchez High, NHS won this contest in overtime. First of all, I don't think NHS has played an overtime game in over 6 or 7 years, because in years past, they would have already given up.....but not this team! That over time win to a big time football program shows me that this Bulldog team not only has a lot of talent but, a lot of heart! Expect great things, they're 2-0 baby!
On Tap This Week
ACCS host Silliman
Cathedral at Dexter
Natchez High?
Trinity at Tallulah
Vidalia at Univ. Lab (Baton Rouge)
On to the College scene where I watch the Miss. State/ S. Carolina game last week. The Bulldogs impressed me with their defense but just kinda sputtered on "O", but when the State QB went down and the back-up QB hit the receiver in the hands at about the 1 yard line and he dropped it, that pretty much deflated the Dogs. Coach Croom may need a new Off. Co-ordinator, but that's just my opinion.
Ole Miss beat a mighty and powerful Memphis squad last night...wait, I can't type and laugh at the same time...OK, the Rebs looked much better on offense and the QB adds a new dimension, he can run! Don't really know how long he can run like that in the SEC and only time will tell. My verdict is still out on the Rebs until they play a real team.
My favorite game was the Cal/Tennessee game....the Vols defense stayed in their backfield putting pressure on the QB all night, Tennessee may be a sleeper and could rise their ranking pretty durn fast if they keep up this pace. The offense ain't to shabby neither, Ainge seems to be putting it together early this year.
I got invited to play Squire Creek yesterday, it's located west of Monroe, takes about 2 hours to get there but, let me tell you, it's worth the drive! A beautiful layout design by Mr. Fazio himself! But don't bring cash, they don't accept it, nothing but plastic.
I'm headed out to Beau Pre' C.C. this morning for the Labor Day One Man Scramble, tee times are at 9am.
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Foundation is having a competition clay shoot this coming weekend in Tunica, MS, if you're interested in participating, contact through their website or give them a call. i don't know either of them but I'm sure you can just Google it on your computer.
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll on The Board!

Name the all-star who broke his elbow in the 1950 All-Star Game.
Answer: Ted Williams. Winner: Eddie Brewer.
All I know about last Friday night, were the scores I read in the Hattiesburg newspaper, no details, just scores. But the biggest surprise was the Natchez High/Port Gibson score...70-0!!!!!! I guess the no huddle pass attack of Natchez High was just to much for Port Gibson to handle, I bet that was a fun game to watch! Heck, I haven't even read "The Board" yet, I don't have much to report on this week, but I will get to see some games this Friday night.
Don't forget about the Frigg'n Fish Feast at The Corner Bar this Saturday night for Jennifer Steckler, you can fix your plate to go also, contact Tommy Geoghagan, John Hungerford or purchase tickets at the Corner Bar. Limited tickets, so get yours early!
The first week of Trivia and Joey doesn't get swept! Of course Eddie Brewer would never let that happen, try your luck this week and remember.....your correct answers aren't always right, they have to be Joey's correct answers! hahaha
Redneck Adventures attended the Wildlife Mississippi Outdoor Show in Hattiesburg this weekend, and when news broke out about a storm headed this way.....people started to panic, Wal-Mart was jammed packed with people but gasoline cans and anything else that would hold water! Needless to say, they didn't attend the outdoor show and if they did, they were broke from the panic attack!
Like I said earlier, I don't have much to say this week but, come back next week and I should have to insight on some games I attend this Friday night.
Ya'll have a good'un and I'll catch ya'll on The Board!
8/21/06
I was going to start writing last week but, I ended up going to South Louisiana for some Shark fishing....I should've stayed home! No Sharks!
Well it's that time of year again and the smack talk has already began on the Ole Bulletin Board. My team's better than your team, why that's the way it's supposed to be...right? Sure, that's why we play the games, of course sometimes my team is better than your team after we lose because the ref's cheated us out of the win! So the debate could last for several years without us ever knowing "Who's the best?" Remember, all the kid's work hard, their coaches prepare their teams to the best of their abilities, I can't think of any coach that wants to lose! So patrons, be kind to your coaches, most aren't even paid a decent wage for their efforts, yet they're out there everyday in the hottest part of the day getting ready for Friday night.
The Jamboree info was great on The Board, I hope everybody keeps this up during the season, let us know how your team did after every game. This is what makes a sports board a GREAT sports board!
Great article in the Sunday edition of the Natchez Democrat on Trinity's Steven Ridley, I've known Steven for a long time and he's a really great kid with alot of drive, he's in church every Sunday with his mother and those values learned there will keep you on the straight and narrow. Now before ya'll bring up stuff from the past....remember kid's are kid's and all of our kids have either did something that was stupid or probably will, so simmer down now!
When I read about how Natchez High dismantled Wilkinson County, it threw me for a loop, WC has a great football program, I know they're not 5A but, they've always had plenty of talent in that part of the State. It just goes to show you that Coach Reed has things going in the right direction and maybe, just maybe, this is year that NHS will win more than they lose....and if that does happen, watch out!!!! The Bulldogs could be a force to reckon with for many years to come!
I don't know when I'll get to see my first football game this year, I've got an Outdoor Show in Hattiesburg this weekend, I may be able to hop around the next Friday night.
Saturday, August 2nd.....I will be helping prepare for the Frigg'n Fish Feast at the Corner Bar downtown for Jennifer Steckler, tickets are $25 each and we'll have Tuna, Dolphin, Salmon, Redfish, Mangrove Snapper, Halibut and Speckled Trout as well as all the trimmings. Jennifer has been battling cancer and we're doing our part to help ease the financial burden that this has endured. For more information about tickets or to make donations, give me a call at 601-597-3624. John Hungerford has tickets or you can purchase them at the Corner Bar.
Joey Martin is back with his trivia and weekly sports column, if you see Joey and you enjoy his stuff, tell him you do....I'm sure he'll appreciate it!
Redneck Adventures had a great summer, we fished with alot of new guides and met and made a lot of new friends, I hope ya'll got to see some of the shows. We also had a part in the Country Music Television's "Country Fried Video's" with host Bill Engval. They used some of our past footage in one of their shows and they must have run that show over 40 times in about 4 weeks. The response we got from that alone was over whelming!
Other than that, I golfed most of the summer, when I had the chance, which was alot at times. I think I played in almost every tournament that was offered around here and a few more that weren't. How did I do you ask? Not bad for a hacker.
Well, I can't think of much else to talk about but, I do ask that each and every person that post on "The Board" to remember not to slander someone else, have fun but not at someone else's expense!
Until next week, ya'll have a good'un!!!!!

Name the college head coach who was one of the rare high
school pitchers to get a win against South Natchez when Joey Porter was on the
mound for the Colonels. Answer: LSU's John Brady. Winner:
Patrick McDonough.
Bonus Questions
Who did Joe DiMaggio get his first hit against during his 56-straight game
streak? Answer: Eddie Smith of the Chicago White Sox.
Winner: Jacob Cowart.
In 1959, this pitcher allowed two runs in a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The game was suspended--to be finished at a later date. The pitcher was released
by the Giants 12 days after the game was suspended. When the game was completed
in July, The pitcher-who
had by then retired from baseball--was charged with the loss. He retired with a
record of 109-88, but that changed to 109-89 when the game finally ended. Name
the pitcher. Answer: Jim Hearn for the San Francisco
Giants. Winner: Joey Martin.
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Foundation "Scramble Fore Wildlife" was a huge success. Over 140 golfers for this first time event held at Quail Hollow G.C. just outside McComb, MS. My team didn't win but, we had a great time and made alot of new friends...I know, that's hard to believe. The Foundation cleared over $20,000 for the one day event, the monies will be used for resources only in Mississippi. At least with this organization, you know where your money is going! They will probably be holding 10 to 12 Wildlife Dinners this year around the State. I'll update when we get one around here.
I was invited to play in a Pro-Am Sunday and Monday at Dancing Rabbit G.C. in Philadelphia, MS.... Duncan Park Pro Marvin Gray, Phil Lindley and Billy Skates made up our team. (Phil dumped on on Monday, so they provided us with a Choctaw on Monday, we just called him Phil all day.) We played both courses over the two days and although our team didn't place, we got to play two extremely fine golf courses! The bent grass greens were soft and ran true, the fairways were plush and the scenery was exquisite. Former Beau Pre' Club Pro Mark Powell is the Director of Golf at the facility and we had the chance to catch up on the news from home with him. OK, here's the Paul Harvey "The rest of the story", we're 15 miles from being at the course on Sunday when all of a sudden, it sounds like my tire blows out. I pull over and my tire is not flat but, the tread came about half off and beat the inside of my fender well bad, really bad, body shop work bad, tore off the front part of my running board and the black plastic thing under my front bumper, knocked paint off the outside of the fender well also. So I suggest if you're putting off buying new tires because you think they have a few more good miles on them....trust me, it's cheaper to get the tires than to have to pay for the damage!
Ya know it's mighty early in the year to already be talking smack about next year's football teams but, I ain't missing the Huntington/Trinity game. The smack is already going on! If anybody has dates and times of any scrimmages this summer, please post the info on the Bulletin Board.
This will be the last post for the summer, I'll get her cranked back up when school starts, until then, I'll just update on the Bulletin Board. Ya'll have a safe summer and stay out of trouble!

Name one of the three freshmen on the first Vidalia High baseball team. Answer: Glen Cupit, Jeff Harrell or Hank Cooley. Winner: Joey Martin.
Bonus Questions
When was the organ first used at a baseball game (the instrument)?
Answer: It's been around only since 1941 when it was used
in a game in Chicago. Wrigley Field was the place. The Cubs lost the first
organ-accompanied game 6-2 to the St. Louis Cardinals. Winner: Eddie Brewer.
What two other Heisman winners were drafted by the Saints?
Answer: George Rogers & Ricky Williams. Winner: Charles Mascagni.
Always a bridesmaid but never the bride.....ACCS baseball takes home ANOTHER State Runner-Up Title, I think the official tally is now 5, one from the early 70's, one in 2001 and the last three years straight. I guess the upside is that at least they've had a lot of talent to make as many as they have here in the 2000's. Hats off to first year head coach Ron Rushing, I know we'll being hearing more from him in the years to come.
Cathedral dropped from the race against E. Webster, I watched the first game from centerfield and the Greenwave bats were held in check the whole game, although CHS lost the tournament, watch for this young team to battle for State for at least the next 2 years! Job well done guys.
Huntington played Porter's Chapel WAY better than most would have thought, scrappy and will be THE force to reckon with next year. Mitch always does a great job with whatever talent he's given.
So what's left for the summer? Only more Baseball, Softball, Golf, Tennis, etc., so if you get the empty sports feeling, get out and drive around some of the local parks and catch a game or two.
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks now has a Foundation, if you receive a Sportsman License, you may have noticed a place to send a donation. This is brand new and it is being headed up by former MS. Ducks Unlimited guru, John Peeples. John's first fundraiser (other than the "asked for" donations on the license) will be a Golf Tournament this Friday at Quail Hollow G.C. just outside McComb, MS. "Scramble Fore Wildlife" the format is a four man scramble and the cost is $500 per team or if you want to be placed on a team, the cost is $150 per person. You can call 601-432-2014 to get an entry form or any other info you may need. This will be a great way to support our new foundation and the great thing about it is, all the money gained will only be used in Mississippi!!!!! I hope to se ya'll there.
Until next week......have a good'un!

All-State Football Squad and signed with Grambling. Name him.
Answer: Robert Barber. Winner: Joey Martin.
Bonus Questions
Who is credited as being the first catcher to wear a mask?
Answer: A catcher for the Harvard University baseball team became the first
catcher to crouch behind home plate wearing a facemask. His name James Tyng, and
he had a local tinsmith make him a catcher's mask. Winner: Eduardo Bruce.
This former San Francisco kicker made 358 of 360 extra points. Name him. Answer: Tommy Davis. Winner: David Boydstun.
I was late getting back last week from a fishing trip, so I decided to just wait until today to update what most of ya'll already know!!! AC won South State, I did get to see the final game and the atmosphere was great. It's just sad that Brookhaven is through as they may possibly be the next best team in the State! Geez these guys can hit a baseball....but AC never quit hitting it either! Good luck to Coach Ron Rushing and his crew as they host Simpson Academy in game 1of the best of three on Tuesday.
Cathedral has just been dodging rain, I believe they will play today at Chester Willis Field, I'm just not sure about game time, maybe somebody can post a time on the Bulletin Board for us all. Best wishes to Coach Craig Beesley and his players!
Huntington faces a very tough Porter's Chapel team as the Hounds host game 1 of the best of three series starting Tuesday. Good luck to Coach Mitch Ashmore and his guys!
All of this just goes to show everybody around Mississippi and Louisiana that there's talent in the Miss-Lou! I know it's a "What If" but, what if we only had one school in the Miss-Lou? I know it'll never happen but, I think everybody else would be skeered!!!!
OK, now for the part ya'll have been waiting on..."especially Gill" Redneck Adventure Updates!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We went to Slidell to the Rigolet's, ( I may have just messed up a bunch of spelling) The wind was kicking and the rain was flowing, so we waited it out.....I don't know why, but we did. Maybe because Sam Barberra from CCA (Coastal Conservation Association) wanted too. He wanted a show but after everything that happened earlier, it just wasn't happening so.....6 hours later and one fish in the boat and out of the boat a little quicker (a catfish..not the kind you eat), we called it a day. So then we headed down to Buras, LA, right where the eye of Katrina came through first, to Cajun Fishing Adventures. The owner, Capt. Ryan Lambert had just finished up the front lodge re-building and will be 100% in a couple more weeks, but he's fishing and booking now! I think he can only house around 32 right now in the main lodge but, he'll take 2 also! We fished the first morning and landed around 60 nice two to three pound trout, maybe only 2 or 3 small ones. The next morning after that, we caught around 30 nice trout again but it only took us about 2 to 3 hours to do so, we had to leave before lunch, but we wanted a half a show for another episode.
I played in the LSU Alumni Golf Tournament last Thursday at Beau Pre' C.C. and although my team got 2nd place, we didn't get anything for our efforts! (Fund-raiser) I did get to eat at Slough Daddy's after the tournament, and Coach Brady from LSU was there, I asked him if he coached volleyball and he said, "No, basketball" I asked, "Boys or girls?", he said, "Boys" so I said, "Were you the one that jumped up and down all the time in every game....except the last game?" He said, "Yeah" So I said, "OK"
I was going camping this past weekend but the weather stopped us, so I just kinda hung around Duncan Park and watch alot of the Joe Fortunato Celebrity 4 Man Scramble. Hard to believe they got in all 36 holes in this tournament. Great turn out to help raise money for scholarships for Miss-Lou athlete's.
Christopher's home for a few days so, maybe I'll take him on a fishing trip before he has to get back to Hattiesburg, until next week, ya'll have a good'un!!!!
4/24/06
I was late getting back last week and although Joey had the trivia ready, I just decided to keep it until this week, that way ya'll would have more time to send me the wrong answers....or maybe the correct answers but, wrong by Joey's standards. Joey's standards...ain't that a scary thought?
Academy baseball starts play-offs this week, best of luck to all those that are involved and also remember to be extra careful if you're traveling. I believe Natchez High won a game in their play-offs but not sure if they made it to the finals are not, if they did, they had to face Gulfport again and since they played earlier, it didn't look good to meet them again, but I don't know any specifics. Cathedral won their first round tournament and advance to play either Lake or Mercy Cross in the South State semi-final. Vidalia starts play-offs Thursday.
Well, let me sum up last week for ya'll.....I went bow-fishing on Monday night and we had both air boats filled with folks that were eager to do this for their first time. By night's end, both boats limited out! Wednesday I filmed up at Clinton, MS with my buddy Big Al at his private lake, we had the guys up from Aqua Cycle to make a show fishing out of their paddle boats (they're also solar powered), we had a great time and as always at Big Al's, we caught bunches of fish! I played in the Trinity Episcopal Scramble on Friday out at Beau Pre' C.C. and my team finished in 2nd place and guess what? They only paid out for first place....oh well, I won a last years hat in the door prizes. Saturday I played in the St. Jude Scramble out at Duncan Park, my team placed third in the first flight and we each won a $25 gift certificate. Former LSU running back and Heisman Trophy winner, Billy Cannon was there and he rode around and shot the bull with everybody....heck, he even signed an Ole Miss hat to be auctioned off! Great tournaments this past weekend and I'm sure they both made plenty of money for their respective organizations.
Jim Bob filmed a show this weekend, I haven't seen any footage yet or even heard from him! But anyway, this group of people shoot Anvils! OK, here's how it works, Whoever can blow their Anvil up in the air and make it land closest to where it took off, is the winner! I'm sure they all use the same amount of explosives. This could be some interesting footage!
The much anticipated NFL Draft is this week and everybody's wondering, "who will go where", I enjoy the first round, after that, I'll watch Sports Center for the final update.
That's all I got for this week, ya'll have a good'un!!!!!!!!!!!!

Name the MVP of the ACCS girls basketball team in 1985. Answer: Shea Dungan. Winner: Joey Martin.
Bonus Questions
This recent athlete who was named to the NBA Hall of Fame made 62 straight free
throws which was a team record in 1991. Name him. Answer:
Joe Dumars. Winner: Walt Brown.
Who was the last SEC player to hit 30 home runs in a season?
Answer: Brad Cresse of LSU in 2000. Winner: Joey Martin.
Joey takes two of three on the trivia this week, but the last question was debatable, we had quite a few answers that even backed up proof but, as guessers, you also have to read Joey's mind! Ain't THAT a scary thought? I'll be leaving this morning and I won't be back until Thursday morning, so I'll post his trivia when I get back.
I played in a one man scramble last Friday out at Beau Pre' C.C., it was the first time that they've had a tournament of this type and everyone seemed to enjoy the format. Neil Partridge won the top honors with a 12 under par 60. Impressive! I shot a three under 69 which was good enough for.......a donator! Your putter has to hot in a scramble and mine wasn't! We had fried fish cooked by the Cajun Fryer folks and Jim Bob grilled some redfish on the grill. I didn't hear one complaint either!
The Trinity scramble is this Friday at Beau Pre', if you're interested in playing, ya better hurry as this tourney fills up quickly every year. Also on Saturday, the St. Jude's Scramble will be held out at Duncan Park G.C., this one is a 27 hole tournament with breakfast, lunch and supper, plus it's for a great cause. Hope to see ya'll at both of these!
Last week there were several reports about the upcoming football season and most of it regarding who ACCS will not be playing, ie: Trinity and Huntington. I don't know any of the reasons why these games won't be played but I can assure you of one thing, the players don't have anything to do with it! I would love for these games to happen as much as the next guy but, I am sure that there is a reason and if I find out, I will let ya'll know. Rusty McPhate is a stand up guy and he wanted these games more than anyone, regardless of the outcome because he knows what a crosstown rivalry is all about, it keeps the kids pumped up for the next year! Until then, give it a rest!
I'm headed to Leeville, LA for some bow-fishing tonight, then I'm headed to Clinton, MS for some big bream and huge bass show at my buddy Big Al's place. We'll be fishing out of a small pontoon boat that is solar powered! This could get interesting!
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll later in the week!

Answer: Jimmy Carter. Winner: Eddie Brewer.
In 1968, this NBA scorer finished as the top man in assists, dishing out 8.6 a
game. Name him. Answer: Wilt Chamberlain. Winner: Eddie
Brewer.
Ahhh, The Masters was this past weekend and I got to enjoy most all of it due in part to great television coverage by both the USA Network and CBS, even the rain delayed round 3 was picked up Sunday morning by USA, the best part is 56 minutes of golf per hour. Phil Mickelson captured Major title number 3 and his second green jacket, this one earning him $1,260,000 but, I think he'd play this one and any major for free! I was pulling for Freddie Couples to make a charge and just when I thought he would, he blew up. South African Tim Clark held up much better than I thought he would have and captured sole second place and picked up $756,000 for his efforts, I'm sure the endorsement deals will far surpass the winnings though. A great tournament but Phil didn't have to do anything but coast on the last few holes. I've got my name in the hat for practice round tickets for next year, I hope I get picked!!!!
I watched the ACCS/Central Hinds game out at AC last week, Central Hinds threw a submarine pitcher, but the batters hit him pretty good, alot of discipline at the plate by the Rebels. AC won by the 10 run rule in the bottom of the 6th inning.
MLB baseball is in full swing and the Yankee's are 2-4, ya gott alove that! Of course my Braves aren't much better and Chipper hurt his dang ankle but, maybe Christopher's buddy Van Pope might get moved up faster! He's playing at High A right now but is expected to get to Pearl this year.
I played golf this weekend, mostly early so I could watch the Masters in the evening but, Beau Pre' is just getting better and better, the much needed rain quickly greened things up even more around the course. They're having a One Man Scramble this Friday, you get to be your own partner and hit two balls each shot....if you prefer, you can wear yourself out! I believe the cost is $45 per person which also includes cart, green fees, membership in the Men's Golf Assn. and a fish fry afterwards. Tee time is at 2pm and we'll play 18 holes.
Vidalia's Jordan Brewer went off last week going 11 for 11 for the Vikings with 5 homeruns, 4 triples, a double and a single....WOW!!!!!! P.S. - plus he got plunked twice! Ouch!!!!!! Way to go Jordan.
Joey's Trivia went quick last week, I was out of town and when I got back, there were numerous correct answers to the trivia, so the winners were chosen by the date and time I received them in my mail box. Joey's going to have to stiffen up, he's making it too easy!!
I'm headed to Lafitte, LA this week to go fishing with Bourgeois Fishing Charters, hopefully I'll get to bring back some fish for the freezer! I just love me some fried speckled trout!!!!
That's all I got for this week, until next week, ya'll have a good'un!!!!

In 1968, this NBA scorer finished as the top man in assists, dishing out 8.6 a
game. Name him. Answer: Wilt Chamberlain. Winner: Steve
Covington.
Who was the first pitcher to throw a pitch over 100 miles per hour?
Answer: Nolan Ryan. Winner: Ed Bruce.
I watched the UCLA slaughter LSU Saturday night, I know it was only a 14 pt. game at the end but, everybody knows that it stayed a 20 point game most of the evening. While I don't have a team that I root for every year, I just pull for the SEC and all I can say is....that was embarrassing!!!!!! I didn't watch the LSU girls last night, I tried but I was too tired, more on that later but, the LSU girls fell by 20 pts. to Duke. So all we have left in the SEC is Florida....Go Gators!
Phil Mickelson just romped and stomped at the Bell South Classic, he led from start to finish and finished 13 strokes ahead of the field! I bet he wishes that he had this weeks game for next week though......The Masters starts Thursday and is probably the most coveted title in Golfdom!
The Pilgrimage 4 Ball was this past weekend at Beau Pre' C.C., I paired up with Clay Arnold and we shot 71-71 for a two day total of 142. It got us into a 3 way tie for 2nd place. Good enough that I got a $200 gift certificate for the effort. I don't know how the others finished as I had to get home to take the family out for supper before my daughter went back to school. That and I was mentally and physically drained. I went to bed before 9pm.
Beau Pre will be having a One Man Scramble on Good Friday, the tourney will probably start after lunch. Each player will have the opportunity to hit 2 balls and pick their best on every shot. This will be a lot of fun for everyone!
Preston Clark breaks the 4 day weight total at the Santee Copper Showdown professional bass tournament by catching 115 lbs. 15 ozs., now that's a lot of fish sandwiches!!!...... I think he broke the old record by over 7 lbs.
For all the updates on local scores, check out The Bulletin Board link above.
Ya'll have a great week!

Bonus Questions
Who founded the American League? Answer: Ban Johnson.
Winner: Doc Fungo.
Who was Chuck Noll's first draft choice as head coach at Pittsburgh?
Answer: Mean Joe Green. Winner: Not Mean Ed Bruce.
LSU in the Final Four, who would'a thunk it? I know there's some LSU fan that thinks they believed it, but really, it just wasn't suppose to happen! I guess that just goes to show you why they play the games. An All SEC championship would be sweet and maybe even get those sportscasters to start giving credit where credit is due!!!!
Stephen Ames won The Players Championship, that's about all the sports I watched over the weekend, the course was gobbling up golfers on Sunday and Ames only flaw was a double bogey on #10....he still shot a 67!!! The Masters is in 2 weeks and I'll take full control of my recliner that weekend!
The Pilgrimage 4 Ball will be at Beau Pre' C.C. this weekend and I'll be there! Should be a fun event with a full course of players.
There's so many baseball, softball, track, golf, tennis, etc. that I can't post it all, the best thing to do is go to the Bulletin Board for up to date listings.
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll later!

York? Answer: Seals Stadium, a refurbished minor league
park. Winner: Cornbread Bruce.
In 1954, the first NBA doubleheader game was played, Who was involved?
Answer: The Milwaukee Hawks and the Baltimore Bullets.
Winner: Joey Martin.
A couple of weeks back I didn't write anything, which ain't really a surprise but, I did have a reason.....as some of ya'll know, I lost my father at the young age of 53 to colon cancer, so the doctors told me that I should get my screening when I turned 45, well that happened back in February so I made the appointment....and yes, I was scared and nervous. I wasn't really sure if technology had advanced the butt camera's from the full size VHS camcorder or not!!!!! Well the day came and it was on a Monday morning, i arrived there at 6:30am (fully cleaned out from the concoction they made me drink the day before) I don't mean to get too visual here but it wasn't that bad....anyway, I went in and they gave me something through a vein in my hand and the next thing I knew, I was in the recovery room....heck, I didn't even feel like I'd be violated!!!!! OK, I know this story isn't really sports related but what I'm getting too is, times have changed and technology is better, regardless of the horror stories you've heard in the past, it ain't that way any longer! So if you have a history of this type in your family, go get it done! Mine came out fine, it didn't show anything out of the ordinary, so I got 5 more years before the next one, and I'm not scared anymore! btw....age 50 is the time to start screening if you don't have the history in your family, early detection is the key to keep from being dead!
So the next day after the butt-snake, I had to attend my grandmother's funeral, So I couldn't write anything that day either, the funeral was in Sumrall, MS at 10am, so I left Natchez early that morning. It's a shame when the only time you get to see all of your relatives is when one of them dies!!!! But my grandmother lived a long life and she didn't require much as far a material objects apply, just give her some fried shrimp and she was good! Oh yeah, my grandmother was born in December of 1898,,,,yep, she was 107 years old!!! So I got that going for me!
Did ya'll notice this week's quote at the top of the page? I played golf this week, I'm finally shooting good enough that it's enjoyable again. Beau Pre' C.C. is going through the transition stage right now and the greens are not as fast as they've been but, they still putt true and the course is greening up. They're in the process of rebuilding the sand bunkers and are going back with the "Easy-Out" sand, the best there is! It will take a while but when they finish, it'll be a doozy!
Yesterday I watched the Bay Hill Invitational and saw Greg Owen blow a 2 stroke lead with 2 holes to play, doesn't sound unbelievable but, let me tell you how he did it! He had about a 3 foot putt on #17 to retain his 2 stroke lead and missed the putt, he had about a 2 foot putt coming back and it lipped out! So now he's tied for the lead. On 18, he puts his approach shoe in the bunker and has a terrible stance in there, he gets out and has about a 15 footer, which he lips out. Poor fellow probably didn't sleep a wink last night! Anyway Rod Pampling won but, just like in the movie Tin Cup, nobody will remember him winning 5 years from now but, every time Greg Owens steps on a gold course, people are going to say...."That's the guy that blew the Bay Hill Invitational." Even to this day, every time I see Scott Hoch, I think of Scott Choke, he missed a 1 footer to win the PGA years ago. Greg Norman with a 7 or 8 stroke lead heading into the last day at the Masters, blew it! Where will you be when the next collapse happens?
Well I'm planning on going camping next weekend out at Lake Lincoln, and being that the TPC will be on TV, I'll probably kick back on the couch and enjoy it!!!!
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The United States Football League signed two Heisman Trophy winners. Name them.
Answer: Georgia's Herschel Walker and Nebraska's Mike
Rozier. Winner: Doc Hicks.
How many interceptions did Ray Guy have at Southern Miss?
Answer: 18. Winner: Cornbread Bruce.
I just haven't been around much lately to give many details about games I've watched around here, between outdoor shows and other events I've been the last two weeks, it's kept me away from the ball fields. I'll try and get out this week and catch a few as I don't have anything planned this week other than putting shows together for Redneck Adventures.
The Louisiana Sportsman Show was this past weekend and it moved from the Superdome to the Lamar-Dixson Center in Gonzales, LA, although I was only there for the first day, I was told that it was a success. I left Friday morning and headed up to Lambert, MS for an appreciation event for former Ducks Unlimited regional director, John Peeples at Gumbo Flats. We tried to get some fishing in but the wind was just kicking all weekend.
It's getting time to bust ole Tom Turkey, that is for you people that thrive for this time of year....as for me, I'm thinking fishing and it won't be long before we make the trek down south in hopes of coming back with enough fish to re-stock the freezer!
Many thanks to all those that post scores and updates on the Bulletin Board, it's really great that folks can get information they need from almost anywhere.
That's all I got for this week, catch ya'll later!

Now that basketball is officially over, it's time to move right into Spring Sports and baseball in particular! Although I was at an outdoor show this past weekend in Canton, MS.....I didn't miss much as the rains held up most of the activity as far as baseball goes. So now I'm looking forward to getting out and watching some games. As most of ya'll know, I graduated from ACCS but, since I've been doing this site, I've gotten to know most of the kids from all the local area schools and I really enjoy watching them all play and compete. We have been very fortunate here in the Miss-Lou to have a number of schools that keep churning out good teams and athlete's. Many have gone on to play at the next level.....and that says alot about the Miss-Lou and the coaches involved in developing their talents. i want to wish all the teams the best of wishes this season and I hope to catch ya'll out on the field!
The AYA link is updated above and I want to thank William Barnes and his secretary Jennifer for sending me the updates each week, these kids play hard and love to see their stuff on the web page.
Congratulations to Mallory Archer, Brittany Gamberi and Mattie Geoghegan for being selected to play in the 2006 All-Star Basketball game. Good luck girls!
Today and tomorrow is all that is left of both Rabbit and Squirrel season. I've heard talk about starting Deer season two weeks later this year and carry the season on into the first two weeks of February. I'm not sure if this will pass into law but, if it does, they need to extend the Rabbit and Squirrel season's as well. Most of the people that I know that hunt Rabbit's have to wait until Deer season is over as most clubs won't let them go tearing through their woods while Deer season is still going on. So it's makes a dilemma, and one that lawmakers need to keep in mind while they mull over the decisions. Personally, I think they need to move all the season's ahead two weeks, if it's good for one, it's got to be good for the others.
I'm hoping to get in a Raccoon hunt either tonight or tomorrow night and then it's on to fishing!!! We'll have some Turkey hunts coming up but, it'll be with Pro Staff, so I won't have to go chasing a big bird around.
That's about all I have for this week, so until next week, ya'll have a great week!

Sorry I didn't write anything last week but, after getting back from Vegas late Monday and then getting films out and getting ready for our annual squirrel hunt...it was just too much! The weather dampened (no pun intended) our festivities for the weekend but, we still had quite a few hunters in the woods after the elusive and damp squirrel. Regardless of the low numbers of squirrels taken, we still had some great food and fellowship and a big fire to keep everybody warm.
I got updates from people as they came to out hunt, I found out about the outcomes of the ACCS/Trinity girls games and the finals of the games afterwards. Leake girls must be the real deal, to beat AC that one sided tells me that they are going to upset some larger schools in the Overalls, maybe even win the whole shooting match! But.....best of luck to AC and Trinity as they advance to Overalls.
Pre-season baseball tournaments are popping up and it won't be long now before they hit full swing (no pun intended...again) I for one am looking forward to getting out and catching some baseball fever!
If anybody wants their teams baseball, softball, track, golf or any other spring sports listed on a link on this page, just e-mail me the schedule and I'll get them listed....thanks!
The Wildlife Mississippi Outdoor Expo is this weekend in Canton, MS, we attend this show every year because the people do a great job of putting on a really good show and the crowds are fun and come out in droves! If ya'll get a chance to make it, come by and give us a holler!
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll later!

I left town last Friday morning so, I missed all the papers to find out about play-off scores in local basketball, it was easy to catch up though just by going to the Bulletin Board, thanks to all of ya'll that post the scores!
I want to wish the ACCS girls, the Trinity girls and boys the best of luck in the upcoming South State Tournament. Do us proud!!!!
How about that Super Bowl? Everybody pretty much picked Pitt to win but, Seattle looked good on their opening drive and then got away from it....who knows why? To me, it just wasn't that spectacular of a game. P.S. - Somebody tell the Rolling Stones to retire, they're not doing them selves any justice by playing anymore. I don't won't to remember them this way.
I've been posting the AYA info under their link above, check in from time to time for updated scores.
Joey almost had a sweep on the trivia but, Penny played for the coach and answered it pretty quickly!
I went on a Rabbit hunt last Saturday morning just outside Philadelphia, MS with the Choctaw Indians, not a single shot was fired! That's because they used sticks!!!!! It's a annual tradition and it was quite an adventure. I'll be showing this within the next few weeks.
I left the Rabbit hunt and drove to Lambert, MS (way up north) for a Youth Duck Hunt at Gumbo Flats Lodge, a quant little piece of land that encompasses 7,200 acres. The ducks were flying and all the kids got plenty of shooting action. I couldn't believe the Teal were still around, these bottle-rockets are hard to hit and these kids brought in several...some fine eating too I might add!
We're flying out to the Shot Show in Las Vegas this Wednesday and we'll be back on Monday, I should have some good stuff to tell ya'll about when I return!
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll later!

Barry Sanders (36), Earl Campbell (36) and Dick Butkus (36). Winner: Dave Myers.
If haven't already noticed, I've put up a link to the AYA Basketball Schedule. I remember the years I spent down there with both of my kids. It was so much fun and the crowds were awesome. If you want have a Saturday off, get out and watch these young boys and girls compete....I promise you'll have a good time!
Basketball is winding down, some teams will advance in the play-offs while others will start getting prepared for next year. In any case I want to give thanks to the coaches who give of their time to help mold these young athletes into young men and women. Your efforts are appreciated by me!
I'll admit that I'm not the biggest basketball fan, I enjoy the game if two teams are equal and it stays pretty much nip and tuck. But if one team starts blowing away another....I'm gone! Now Baseball is another story, I can watch teams play all day long and as most of ya'll notice, I'm at alot of baseball parks in the spring and summer. Oh it's just around the corner now, I think I can even smell the scent of leather as I write this. Funny though, I never played baseball growing up, I played basketball and football and in high school I only played football....and track if that counts! But I have grown to love baseball, mostly because my son loved it so much and got me involved in coaching. A very fascinating game that can be enjoyed by anyone!
I know I haven't been on the board as much as I used to as Redneck Adventures has really grown and kept me away from the office but, although I don't post as much, I still read as much as I can between making films. There has been as there always has been...controversy!!! Some people get their feelings hurt while others laugh about it! I have some great people that help me monitor the board and they do a fantastic job (thanks ya'll) but if you have thin skin and are easily offended, then you need to be careful about clicking on certain post.
Redneck Adventures had a great bow-fishing trip last week down in Leeville, LA with Marsh Master Guide Service, we limited out on Redfish and got'em so quick that we got a decent nights sleep. You owe it to yourself to try this out!
I'm headed to Hattiesburg today to visit my son and get some stuff done for him, I'll catch ya'll later!

Fame? Answer: Pete Pihos . Winner: Joey Martin.
Who was the first player to start their career with five consecutive seasons of
at least10 touchdowns per season? Answer: Jim Brown.
Winner: Joey Martin.
Wow, starting the year off with almost a sweep! Joey got'em on 2 of 3 anyway. I hope everyone enjoys the trivia, it seems that sometimes there are bunches that play and sometimes hardly any at all, weird how that works....anyway, thanks Joey for all the trivia each week.
I'm betting their were alot of pigskin prognosticators that ended up looking badly after this weekend! #1....the Colts, Peyton just can't close the deal and then adds more flavor to the loss by implicating his front linemen as not giving him "protection" The only Manning I still had respect for just lost it! I think I'll pay close attention to the first pre-season game next season, if I was on that line, I'd tell the guy opposite me, "I'm going right, it should give you a straight line to Flabber-gums Manning" A few of these and I'm thinking Peyton thinks more before he speaks again!!!!!!
For those of you that don't think coaching is important.......talk to the players with the New England Patriots....so much for Three-peat!
After watching Chicago, I've decided that Grossman needs to go back to 2nd string QB, he did much better there!
The Super Bowl is this weekend, Denver hosting the Steelers....trust me on this one! Break out the Fritos!
Pro Basketball on TV....I ain't even going there! Baseball season is just around the corner!
But speaking of basketball, I watched Natchez High's JeKel Foster this weekend as his Ohio State took Michigan State into the second overtime, I don't know how it ended because it was time to fire up the grill at the hunting camp.
I was at my hunting camp for the long weekend.....I went over to Hoff's camp to play guitar and eat some of Ed Bruce's good'ole cornbread........let's just say that "ED" ain't one of my favorite people this week......NO CORNBREAD!!!!!!! But being the gracious guy I am, I still let him eat some of the sausage I brought anyway. We invited Hoff and his cronies over to out camp Sunday night for supper and some more guitar playing (as we've been over there the last 2 times) So we cooked up a grill full of boneless pork chops, grilled some Salmon on another grill and more of my sausage. Just when we about got it all ready, Hoff don't show up!!!! What a guy!!!!!!!!
Wednesday is the last day of regular gun season, good luck ya'll!!!!!
That's all for this week, catch ya'll later!

I hope everybody enjoyed the holidays, I know I did! But one things for sure, it ain't what it used to be! Now I'm the first one up on Christmas morning, the kids are grown and would rather just sleep in. This is what I miss about Christmas now, no little ones to get excited with....I guess I'll just have to wait until grandkids come along and I ain't wishing that to happen anytime soon!
I know that basketball season has been in full swing but I just can't get excited about it until now, those last year games ain't nothing but warm-ups for now! Now is when the games will really get interesting and the play-off pictures start developing!
For all you deer hunters out there, ya better be doing whatever you can to get in the woods this week, the rut in on! It started last week and already some nice bucks have been harvested...so if you have any vacation time for this year, to heck with the beach, get out to the hunting camp!
Hope ya'll enjoyed this weeks Quote at the top of this page, I got to experience this first hand this past weekend at Hoffpauir's hunting camp. Know I'm not sure if you could call Hoff's "Deeds" they seem to sound more like fiction to me. Now he says that he already has two bucks this year (and you know he wouldn't rub it in on his fellow hunters) but I didn't see any horns or pictures! I had a good time over there strumming the ole six string and am looking forward to doing the same this Friday night. Did I tell ya'll that Hoff sings? I think it was either him or a bobcat caught in a trap!
Redneck Adventures filmed last week at Silverwood Plantation with Howard Netterville, he has 3,000 acres and offers either high fence hunting or fair chase. We got a doe, a seven point and a eight point on film. This place is beautiful and Howard will be starting to offer deals to the public next year. Mostly bow hunting inside the high fence but he has some monsters in there!
That's all for this week, but for up to the minute scores and information, visit The Bulletin Board...see ya'll!!!!!!
