Leesville was offensive MVP in 94. Winner: Joey Martin.
Bonus Questions
Name the three nicknames Tulsa used before going with Golden Hurricane.
Answer: Tigers, Kendalllites and Orange and Black. Winner:
Joey Martin.
In 1999, this quarterback led the SEC in total offense and also had the
second-highest mark in total offense that year. Answer:
Dusty Bonner of Kentucky. Winner: Walter Ketchings.
Former Vidalia High Star baseball player Jarrett Hoffpauir was named to the First Team Pre-Season All Conference Team at second base. He was one of 3 Southern Miss players to receive that honor. We'll be looking forward to hearing more of his accomplishments this coming season....Best of Luck Jarrett!!!!
I had said on here earlier that Christopher had been named to the Collegiate Baseball Magazine as a Pre-Season All-American, well Christopher's coach had made a mistake and he was named as one of the players to watch this year by that magazine, there were around 25 players that they had listed.....BUT.......Christopher called me Friday night and informed me that he was named to the Baseball America's Pre-Season All-American Team and his teammate Van Pope was named the Pre-Season All-American MVP. The magazine should come out within this week and I'll probably be buying a few copies if I can find them!
The Sports Buzz this week has Natchez High girls and boys against Amite County, great action and both teams play pretty sound basketball. Catch the game this Wednesday at 6pm on Channel 4.
Redneck Adventures will have Spec fishing and Red fishing with the Marsh Rat down around Golden Meadow, LA. Show time is 5:30pm on Wednesday.
I went to Leeville, LA last Thursday evening and bowfished with Marsh Masters, we limited out and had a blast! We went with them the next morning and caught 70 Specs in about 2 and a half hours and then we switched to Red fishing, we limited out in about 2 hours. Great trip and I got 3 separate shows to air in the near future.
I had the pleasure of escorting my daughter for the ACCS Sweetheart Court last Saturday night, I had to wear a suit and tie!!!! Talk about a fish out of water...I ask Morgan if I could wear a MissLouSports.Com T-shirt and I got one of those looks!
If all works out right, I'll be headed to Picayune, MS this Friday evening to go on a Hog hunt early Saturday morning for Redneck Adventures. Hopefully Tee Cotton will get a Crow hunt together before I leave, I've only been on one of those before and it was fast paced and required a lot of shooting.
I don't know much about everything that happened between Huntington and Ben's Ford but, it don't sound good from what I've been hearing. I hope that everything works out smoothly and those that deserve reprimanding get their "just desserts!"
Joey Martin spanked ya'll last week with the Trivia questions! Will he do it again?
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll later.
1/19/04
I watched all 4 games between ACCS and Trinity last week and 3 of them went down to the wire! The Lady Saints played a tight defense in the paint and forced AC to shoot from the perimeter, it worked well for them as the Lady Rebels had a hard time making buckets on their outside shooting. But AC did pretty much the same thing on defense and the Lady Saints couldn't drain many from outside either. The score was indicative of an AYA basketball game for the first half. AC won the game but, the Lady Saints have to hold their heads proud as they played a great game.
The boys game was a little different as the Australian star fouled out in the first half after receiving tons of pressure from the AC faithful chanting "USA..USA" The few times he did get the ball inside, you could tell he could dominate down low. He just needs to learn to keep the crowd out of his game. AC won the game easily but the Saints kept on giving it their all.
Right before the AC and TE basketball games, I went out and watched the ACCS baseball team get in some practice, they were mostly doing the basics, they had the pitching machine throwing fly balls as Coach Morris hit the infielders ground balls. Since a lot of the baseball players are basketball players, he didn't have the whole squad there but, at least some of the guys are getting the feel back for the game. The pitchers are on a limited pitch count in the bull pen but probably ahead of where they were this time last year. Douglas Davis, Glenn Williams and Timmy Foster will have to be extra sharp this year to make a run at the play-offs.
While we're talking baseball, I have to share a story with ya'll that Christopher told me this weekend. Meridian signed a kid from North Mississippi. Well this kid is in special education, he was at P.E. playing dodge ball when the baseball coach walked in and saw him knocking other kids out with the ball. The coach asked him if he had ever played baseball, the kid said "No" So the coach talked him into coming out for the team. The kid shows up and the coach takes him through the pitching motions and puts him on the mound, he aims his radar gun at him and tells him to throw. The kid hits 95 mph!!!! This kid was a junior at the time, so they sign him up to play for the Bill Hood team out of Hammond, LA. They travel down to Florida for a tournament and this kid is averaging 94mph consistently and hits 96mph 4 times! He's a right handed pitcher but, at 96 mph, he'll probably never make it to Meridian C.C., the pro's will surely snatch him up.
Deer season is pretty much over for me, there's a possibility that I may go one more time this Wednesday, depending on the weather. I did manage to harvest another deer last week, let's just leave it at that....it was legal though by the State laws...just not by my hunting camp! One of our South Louisiana members bagged a nice 8 point last week and there were several other deer harvested while I was staying at the camp last week. In all, we had a pretty good year out at Triangle H.C. and it's hard to believe that it's already over for gun season. I don't have a muzzleloader that I feel comfortable shooting, it hasn't been shot in over 15 years but, if you own one, Good Luck on the rest of the season. I still need ya'll to either send me pictures or tell me about any deer harvested during the hunting season.
I got home in time yesterday to watch the NFL play-offs and Peyton Manning just couldn't buy any luck except for bad luck as his Colts lost to the Patriots 21-14. The Patriots got every break in the book and took advantage of every one of them! The Panthers took out the Eagles 14-3 as Donavan McNabb looked on as he went out injured in the game. So this sets up a Patriots vs. Panthers in the Super Bowl in Houston. I'm going to pull for the underdog and cheer for the Panthers to win...although I don't think it will happen.
Late last night I watched TV by myself, as me and the wife watched the end of the football game, I turned over to the Sony Open being played in Hawaii and within seconds, she was off the couch and in the bedroom....watching the Lifetime Channel, I'm sure! But I couldn't have tuned in at a better time as the tournament had Ernie Els and Harrison Frazar tied atop the leaderboard. And sure enough, they went into a play-off!!!! I stuck my head in the door and announced this to my wife, she didn't seem too excited. And every time they tied a play-off hole, I would stick my head in the door and tell her about it, of course I acted real excited about it and told her to change her channel and watch it but I didn't get much of a reaction from her. When it was over and Ernie Els won the event, I went screaming into the bedroom, jumped on the bed and began to tell her about it. She didn't seem as excited about it as I thought she would but, then again, she was entrapped in the Lifetime Channel.
We've decided to get the Dish Network at the house, Lisa wants all them new women's channels and I just like flicking the remote, so after last night, I may be watching a lot of TV by myself. Because there's one thing the little lady of the house can't stand, is flicking the remote. I have satellite at the hunting camp and there's so much to watch that whoever has the remote gets screamed at the whole time!
Redneck Adventures airs every Sunday morning at 8am on FOX 35, we don't have that on our cable systems but, if you have the local access channels, you can get it. But, you can watch the show on our local cable channel 4 at 5:30pm every Wednesday and Sunday, right before the Sports Buzz.
Ya'll have a great week and if you have any sports newsworthy information to send me, just drop me an e-mail.

Name the SEC quarterback who completed 24 straight passes in the late 1990s.
Answer: Tee Martin. Winner: Walter Ketchings.
I've already added the new Trivia above, give it a whirl!
I'm headed to the hunting camp this evening but, I'll be coming back in for games, especially the ACCS/Trinity match-up.
I talked to Glenn Wisner yesterday and his Daniel bagged a nice 8 pt. buck last Saturday, he said that between last Thursday and Sunday, they harvested 5 bucks! This is the only camp that I've heard from that has been seeing ANY deer lately.
Next weeks Sports Buzz will have plenty of basketball action on slate and maybe I can catch a few baseball practices because, I got the fever!
Ya'll have a great weekend and I'll catch ya'll next week.
1/12/04
The NFL play-offs have been spectacular! Never has there been this many overtimes in the post-season. It sure makes the games more exciting to watch when the teams are equally matched. Although it sure looked like Brett Favre had hunting on his mind when he threw that last interception, I still ain't figured that one out yet! Next week will be the Conference Championships, Indianapolis at New England, which I assure you will be very cold at game time....and Carolina at Philadelphia.
Robert "Legs" Henderson died last week, some of you may remember him from Duncan Park G.C., he played whenever he had the chance. I had the pleasure of playing with him many times and enjoyed his company every time. There weren't any airs by ole Legs, what you saw was what you got. I'll miss him and the next time I play golf, I'll be thinking about him. May God bless him and his family.
I believe that this Thursday, Trinity will travel across town to take on ACCS for the second time this year. It may be a little different this time as TE has a new player and one that will make a difference. I'm sure the gym will be packed with roaring fans as these two schools battle it out in high school action!
I went to Jackson, MS last Tuesday and dropped off the Redneck Adventures video to WUFX Fox 35, the show aired for the first time this past Sunday morning at 8am, by 10am, we already started getting e-mails from viewers from around the State. It looks like it's going to be a success by the responses we received so far. We also show this same show on local access channels around the State during the week, We'll be showing it in Natchez as soon as I get some dates set with Cable One. Fox in Natchez is through Fox in Alexandria, only satellites with the local access channels can get Fox 35.
Last Friday was a good day for me and the wife, first Morgan called and ask me to escort her for the Sweetheart Court out at ACCS as she was selected for the junior class, then she went and sang the National Anthem before the basketball games (first time ever), Next I got a call from Christopher telling me that he was selected as a JUCO Pre-Season All American in baseball this year. 3 other of his teammates also made the squad, Van Pope, Sam Self and Aaron George.
I went to the hunting camp on Wednesday last week and tried my luck for the rest of the weekend, not only did I not see anything but, nobody at my camp saw anything either. I've talked with several people from other areas and the same has held true for them as well. The tgemps are suppose to be in the 60's this week. If the deer aren't in rut yet, it may be another dismal week again, and I'll probably go out there again this Wednesday and repeat the same thing!
The Sports Buzz will be back on this Wednesday, I'm bringing back the Bow Fishing trip that we took down in Leeville, LA after I had so many request the last time that I ran some of it, I'll have more footage this time plus, I also have a video of Meghan Marchbanks and her first ever buck harvested, a nice 9 point! Her dad held the camera and got the whole event on film.
Like I said earlier, I'll probably be headed to the camp on Tuesday, but I'll be coming back in for basketball games to put on the Sports Buzz. Maybe I'll see ya at the games! Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll later!

Answer: Joe Champion. Winner: Mark Stockstill.
Bonus Questions

December 13, his wife was born on September 13 and his brother has two sons who
were born on the 13th. Answer: Don Maynard. Winner: Walter
Ketchings.
I'd say that it's great to be back, but that just wouldn't be telling the truth, I enjoyed being at the hunting camp. Although I didn't get anything to put in my freezer, it's always better to be there, than at work.
I did spend alot of time coming in & out of town from my camp as I was preparing the Redneck Adventures TV shows that will start airing on FOX 35 out of Jackson this coming Sunday morning at 8am. Natchez doesn't get that channel unless you have a satellite with the local programming. But I'll be putting it on channel 4 here anyway. I'll let ya'll know when it's going to air.
I watched the Sugar Bowl last night and it's a good thing LSU won, because if they had lost, all we ever would have heard was "If they hadna fumbled on the first drive, we would have won!" Say what you want but, all the coaches agreed that the National Championship would be the Sugar Bowl. No ifs, ands or buts...period! But I will say this, Stoops learned well from Spurrier, they're both crybabies!
Basketball season is still in full swing but, baseball diamonds will be getting aired out this month with the coming of the season which will see local teams starting towards the last couple of weeks in February. I can hardly wait!
This page will be ran a little different this year, instead of posting everyday, I'll be posting as newsworthy material comes my way. I've got quite a few irons in the fire now, so I'm going to try a few things out.
Also, if anybody wants to post some news, with or without your name on here, just e-mail me your article and I'll get it on here.
I hope everybody got what they wanted for Christmas and I wish everybody a successful New Year.

What a week! Cathedral basketball boys team played in the finals of the Region 7-1A tournament and will host Union in the first round of South State.
ACCS & Trinity played in the State Tournament and Trinity made it to Overall! Congrats to the Rebels on a great season and I wish the Saints the best of luck as they play MRA tomorrow.
Natchez High will play Ocean Springs in the South Playoffs after losing a tough one to Warren Central last week. Good Luck Bulldogs!
Baseball season has started for most all of the local teams, the rains today and scheduled for tomorrow are sure gonna mess things up! I was gone all weekend and I missed the tournament out at Natchez/Cathedral/Trinity field, but I'm sure I missed some good baseball.
ACCS won their first 2 games of the season last week playing in the Silliman tournament, they beat Franklin Academy and Silliman in a doubleheader.
Vidalia's own Jarrett Hoffpauir is back at it at USM, he had 3 hits yesterday as they swept Northwestern in the series over the weekend.
Christopher pitched 4 innings yesterday as they played Jones C.C., the score was 2-2 after he left the game, his first "No-Decision" since his career started at MCC. He gave up one earned run and had 4 K's. MCC won the game 7-3. Christopher will pitch again this coming Saturday against Pensacola C.C. in the Rush Invitational at MCC. Shelton State from Alabama and Navarre C.C. from Texas will be there as well. Should be a a very competitive field. MCC is now 4-1 on the season after winning the Rush Classic this weekend.
Part 2 of the Collegiate Squirrel Hunt will air this Wednesday at 5:30pm on Redneck Adventures, we just had so much footage that we had to make it into 2 shows. I hope ya'll enjoyed the first one and this one is every bit as good!
I'm pretty sure that I'll be heading to Jackson tomorrow to watch the Trinity/MRA basketball game, and hopefully, I can have it ready for the Sports Buzz on Wednesday.
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll on the Bulletin Board!

Answer: Lars Kristenson. Winner: Joey Martin.

Name the only USM running back to rush for 300 yards in a game.
Answer: Sam Dejarnette rushed for 304 yards against
Florida State in 1982. Winner: Neal Randall.
Who was the MVP in the first SEC Championship game?
Answer: Antonio Langham of Alabama. Winner: Joey Martin.
Last week saw two area teams make it to their respective State Basketball Tournaments. Trinity lost to Glenbrook but, they advanced far enough to earn the South #2 seed and play today against the North #4 team of DeSoto School at 7:45pm. Their State Tournament is being held at University Christian School in Flowood. ACCS lost to Jackson Prep last week but they picked up the #2 South seed and will play on Wednesday against the North #3 seed in Lee Academy at 5:15pm, their tournament is being held at Jackson Prep. I want to wish both of these teams the best of luck!
It's Baseball season!! ACCS is suppose to play in the Silliman Tournament that starts today, assuming the playing field is OK, the Rebels will play Columbia and Silliman today. I may just have to hop on the Yellow Dog and ride over with them to get some footage.
Congratulations to John Wayne Fleming, he bowled a perfect game (300) out at Rivergate Bowl back in January. John Wayne played on a couple of baseball teams that I coached, back in the day. A great kid that always gave you everything he had.
Christopher's first baseball game for the year at Meridian C.C. got rained out last Saturday but, they'll resume play tomorrow at MCC against Bevill State, the #3 team in the nation in the Juco Div. II ranks. MCC is in Div. I and are ranked #2 in the nation. Christopher will start game one of the doubleheader and will be on a pitch count between 60 to 70 pitches, which will probably be between 3 or 5 innings. MCC will host the Rush Classic starting this Friday, Christopher will probably pitch on Sunday of that tournament.
I sat at the house yesterday and watched "Big" John Daly win his first golf tournament since he won the British Open. I think everybody in attendance was pulling for John except for Chris Riley and Luke Donald, who found themselves in a playoff with the guy that has overcome more obstacles than anyone on the tour. I liked it and I like to think that he won because I helped "will" the bunker shot on the first playoff hole.
Our very own, homegrown girl, Janice Davis is impressing them out in California, she won the 60m dash for her Stanford team at the Pac-10 Indoor Championships at the Univ. of Washington. She ran a 7.46 to claim the title. She also ran a leg on the 1,600m relay in which her team won and her time during that lap was 55.2 seconds! Way to go Janice, we're all so proud of you!
Joey Martin almost pulled off the sweep in the Trivia this week, and I thought these were easier questions!
I've been adding some schedules for baseball and softball, check out the links above and if you have a schedule that I don't, please send it to me.
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch up with ya'll on the Bulletin Board!

What a week! I filmed half of the ACCS girls vs. Central Private, with CP coming out on top and I filmed the other half of the boys game which turned out to be a barn burner! Catch the action from these games on this weeks Sports Buzz at 6pm on channel 4. AC came out on top and most importantly, it put the Rebels in a much better bracket in this week tournament...in other words, the one that Jackson Prep and Hillcrest are in! AC will square off against Copiah on Wednesday and a win would automatically propel them into the State Tournament. The AC girls will also play Copiah on Wednesday.
The Trinity boys will face Briarfield on Wednesday in the South A Tournament, which is being held at Greenville Christian..(Funny, I thought Greenville was up north!) The TE girls will play Riverdale tonight and the Huntington girls will play Central on tonight.
Follow all the scores and updates on the MissLouSports.Com Bulletin Board.
The Redneck Adventures Collegiate Squirrel Hunt went off with a blast! Literally! We had a special Rabbit hunt on Friday and took a few people out with Rabbit guru Glenn Carroll and his wabbit enthusiast. They really took care of us and we came out after the day with a dozen rabbits. It's really hard to film this kind of hunting but, we had some great interviews with the shooters after they had downed their prey. And I can also tell you this, they ride each other pretty hard about each others dogs...but it's all in fun. All in all, a great day for everybody.
Saturday was the big day for the squirrel hunt and we had 5 groups spread out around different camps surrounding the Kingston area. The morning hunt saw the Louisiana Tech team pull ahead with 10 squirrels, they came back after the evening hunt with 8 more and pretty much cruised to victory, Cliff Merit was the team captain and he was gracious enough to let some hunters use his hunting property. I went on the evening hunt with the Ole Miss team and while they mustered out 13 squirrels that evening, the 4 from the morning hunt never let them get into contention for anything more than second place, falling just one short. We had other teams representing Delta State, who after the morning hunt, confined their selves to hanging around the camp fire that evening. The LSU team came away with 12 for the event and a claim to 3rd place. We had many cameras running and I haven't even had the time to preview them, but I'm pretty sure that this will be a two part series as we had many people there and so much going on in between the hunts. At lunch time, we had Red Owens and Dunbar Bunch preparing Gumbo and Redfish on the half shell. We had a chef with Cajun Blast there and he had chicken, pork and one thing that I can't spell but let me describe it to you...he took a jalapeño half and put cream cheese with seasoning in it and either placed an oyster or shrimp in it and then wrapped it in bacon and cook them on the grill...uuummm uuummm gooood! OK, here goes my spelling of it...Shrimp or Oyster Bahshets. That's how it sounds anyway! Anyway, this Cajun Blast chef brought samples of their products for everybody to take home, and it was some good stuff! check out their web site at www.cajunblast.com You can order their stuff by just giving them a call. Ask around, you'll find somebody that was there and they can testify to what I'm saying!
Meridian C.C. had its annual Green & White baseball game on Saturday, it's mostly a chance for the players families to gather and meet the incoming classes parents and to enjoy a lot of good food. My wife attended the event and Christopher pitched the first 3 innings and didn't give up any hits, he stayed 91-93 mph through the 3 innings that he pitched. The highlight was in the 3rd inning when a former player from last year showed up to play, this player had signed after his freshman year with the Marlins and was in town to get in some training, well, this player comes to the plate with 2 outs and Christopher strikes him out, as they are heading in to the dugout, Christopher says, "That's what you get for leaving us, welcome to the Minors!" They all got a pretty good chuckle out of that!
Joey Martin's trivia is up this week, no winner on the main question last week. Joey must be getting soft, easy questions this week.
Ya'll have a great week and maybe I'll run into some of ya'll at a basketball game somewhere this week! Best of luck to all the area teams!

When Allen Brown of Natchez was named AP All-SEC at end in 1963, who was the
other end on the first team? Answer: Billy Martin of
Georgia Tech. Winner: Joey Martin.
Bonus Questions
Only one player has led Texas A&M in punt returns four straight years. And it wasn't Dante Hall. Who was it? Answer: Carl Roaches (72-75). Winner: Joey Martin.
Sylvester Croom received the Jacobs Award as outstanding SEC Blocker in 1974.
He was the third straight Alabama player to win the award. Name the two previous
winners. Answer: John Hannah in 1972 and Buddy Brown in
1973. Winner: Joey Martin.
Last week I went over and filmed 2 quarters of the Vidalia girls game and the Vidalia boys game, they were playing Lake Providence. While the girls showed a lot of grit, they just couldn't muster out the win. I filmed the first 2 quarters of the boys game and it was cram full of excitement. These guys are fun to watch and you owe it to yourself to get over there and watch them play. I'll have these games on this weeks Sports Buzz.
Christopher called me on Saturday evening all excited, they has played an inner-squad game and he pitched 4 innings, he knew that he had done well as he said he striked out a lot of his team mates and only gave up two hits, one being a blooper, the other the biggest homerun he had ever seen! But he said it was OK because he had struck that guy out his previous two at bats. Later he got the news that he was consistently 91-93 mph and hit 94 mph for the first time in his life. He had hit 93 mph so many times before, that it was like a golfer who could never break 80 on his score card. To make matters even better, there was a Pittsburgh Pirates scout there watching the whole time. Although this scout can't talk to Christopher since he's property of the Padres, it's still sweet that if the Padres don't make him a good offer, that he will be re-drafted in June, and all these scouts know this!
Pretty boring week-end for me, I didn't do anything sports wise, so I had a chance to relax at the house and read a book that was dropped off to me, it's about PGA Tour player Rich Beem and his caddy. So far, so good.
Super Bowl Sunday kicked off to what looked like a boring game, but the 2nd quarter, things picked up some and all of a sudden, we had a good game going. By the 4th quarter, you wondered what happened to these twp teams the first 3 quarters! They were racking up points like every play would be their last, and what a game it turned out to be, so close to going into overtime. That's the way the Super Bowl is suppose to be!
This weeks Redneck Adventures show is a rabbit hunt in Jefferson County, check it out on Wednesday and Sunday at 5:30pm.
Redneck Adventures is host to the Collegiate Stars Squirrel Hunt his weekend, we'll have past stars from around the Miss-Lou area and maybe some that are not from here. We're suppose to have a Nashville recording artist here by the name of Chad Brock, I don't really listen to much country but he sang a song called, "She said Yes" a few years ago and has a couple other hits to his credit as well. It should be a fun outing, I just hope the weather cooperates!
MPSA High School Basketball Play-offs are under way and I want to wish all the local teams the best of luck!

I spent from Thursday evening until Sunday at Frogmore, LA attending the annual M&D 500 4-wheeler races and now I'm paying for it with my sinuses. The dust was so thick you could cut if with a knife! I don't know how many people were there but, I'm guessing a thousand easily. Everything went great and I'm sure that Bruce Video Productions will have the event on TV before too long.
MCC split with East Mississippi on Saturday bring their record to 24-4 on the season. Warren Central's Joey Lieberman hit 2 homeruns in the contest taking him to 11 dingers on the season and Van Pope hit a homer also. They'll play Alabama Southern tomorrow in a single 9 inning game. Christopher will pitch the first game of the double-header against Hinds on Saturday at 2pm.
Jarrett Hoffpauir went 3 for 5 with a homer yesterday as USM upended South Florida 9-3. Ya know, there's hot and there's Red Hot...and that's what the youngster is right now! USM is 20-4 on the season.
I went out to the Kramer Fife Track Meet last Thursday and filmed various events, it was a great day, not just for the athletes but, for the Fife family as well. Such a great tribute to keep Kramer in our thoughts....I still miss him so much.
If you're into college basketball, you got to see 2 very good games on Sunday. Duke, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State and Connecticut will advance into this weekends Final Four tournament. I favoring Georgia Tech to win it all!

Next match-March 30th vs Forest Hill (4:00 at Duncan Park)
I had a lot of guesses at Joey's Trivia but, nobody gave me the correct answer to the main question, although Ron Rushing called me with his guess of most homers and then guessed most doubles (which was correct) and I said, "What's your answer?" He said he didn't know, so I didn't give it to him. hahaha

Who holds the USM record for at bats and how many? Answer:
Josh Hoffpauir with eight against Belmont on March 10, 2000. Winner: Walter
Ketchings.
From Thursday until this morning is a long time to be away from home! Meridian C.C. won all 6 games and Christopher is now 3-0 on the year and sporting somewhere around a 1.75 ERA. He'll pitch tomorrow in the conference opener at Holmes C.C. in Goodman, MS. HCC only has 1 loss on the year. It should be an interesting double-header. We were adding up the homers that have been hit and the team has at least 36 that we know of. Not bad considering they've only played 24 games. Current record is 21-3.
I took Christopher up to Ole Miss on Saturday, he had an appointment with Coach Bianco after they played Vanderbilt. What started out as a horrible game, (being down 5-0 after 6 inn.) turned out to be an exciting one! Ole Miss won on Friday night with a walk-off homer in the 9th and then, Centreville Academy's Matt Tolbert hit the wall in the 9th on Saturday to get the go-ahead win! 6 more inches higher and it would have gone out of the park.
Jarrett Hoffpauir went 2 for 4 with a double on Sunday as USM beat Houston 4-3 in Conference USA action.
Lisa threw away all the papers except for today's, so it looks like Vidalia's tournament went well. I hated missing this one too, it's always a lot of fun when the ole coaches come to town.
March Madness takes on a whole new meaning! How bout all the upsets? Anybody that picks the final four this year will have done so by throwing a dart at a newspaper!
If you didn't know, and I know how happy some of you will be to hear this....the M&D 500 is this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can hardly wait for Friday for the Sponsor's Ride. It's always the best day, not as much dust on the main roads and not as many people to run over you on some of the tight trails through the woods. A certain accountant friend of mine was seen this past weekend cleaning up a borrowed 4-wheeler in his front yard in Montebello Gardens, wearing his Bermuda shorts and tank top t-shirt and singing along with his jam-box of "Baby I was Born to Run" The " M&D 500 or Bust" sign in the back window of his Toyota pick-up was enough to keep passerby's from stopping and asking what he was doing.
The Sports Buzz this week is a baseball game between Vidalia and Cathedral a couple weeks back.
The Redneck Adventure show this week is a Rabbit hunt we took with Glenn Carroll, the Ratcliffe brothers, Garnell Webb, Gayle Edwards, Premo Stallone and a bunch of others.
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll on the Board!

Answer: David Magadan batted .525 in 1983. Winner: Walter
Ketchings.
Who has the most home runs at the University of Arkansas?
Answer: Ryan Lundquist hit 56 from 1996-99. Winner: Walter Ketchings.
I spent the weekend in Meridian and watched as MCC beat Wabash College on Friday and then we traveled to Tuscaloosa on Sunday for a double-header with Shelton State. MCC won both games by 1 run. The first one by a 3 run homer by Joey Lieberman, who seems to be making a bit of a habit doing this lately. MCC's Van Pope came in to pitch in the second game and was hitting 92-93 mph. Someone said that he hit 95mph once...that's smoking it! MCC will play Jefferson College this coming Thursday in a double-header at home and Christopher is scheduled to pitch the first game. They'll have a make-up game on Friday and will travel to Brewton, AL to play Jeff Davis in a double-header and then they'll play again on Sunday at home against Sinclair in another double-header. I'm planning on going over on Thursday and stay for the weekend. MCC is currently 15-3 on the season.
Being away from the local action, I did manage to get some updates, I heard that Silliman beat ACCS 11-6 in baseball action over the weekend and the Rebels will try and bounce back with a conference game coming to town tomorrow with Parklane.
I got to film some of the game between Cathedral and Vidalia last Thursday and I should have it ready for the Sports Buzz soon. This was a pitching dual between two very good teams. It could have went either way but, CHS pulled out the victory in part to a strong performance on the mound by Te Riley. I'm not taking anything away from Vidalia's Mac Ware either, he's tough and will win most of the games that he pitches this year!
I also got to watch some of the Track Meet out at ACCS last week and probably the most enjoying part was watching the high school high jump. WCCA's jumper hadn't been beat in 1A competition since he was a sophomore, but that streak came to an end as a junior from Porter's Chapel made the leap successful at 6'4"!!!! He tried to tie the 1A record of 6'5-1/2" but just missed it twice dragging the bar off with the back of his leg.
A really big track meet out at ACCS will be on March 25th. "The Kramer Fife Classic" 12 teams will be there and they will also have pre-lims, with the finals scheduled for that night. Get out and watch most of the areas MPSA tracksters compete in this event.
We'll need lots of wind and sun to get playing conditions ready for any games today and tomorrow. Let's just hope that it's all gone for awhile!
Joey Martin's Trivia last week got more guesses than I've received in a long time! I guess that nobody wants him to sweep. But it's been a pretty long time since anybody has gotten the MAIN QUESTION...not even Walter!!! hahahaha
I have to mention this because, it is advise to any parent that may get caught in this situation...as I just did! NEVER take two girls on a 3 hour road trip that are awaiting news as to whether they made cheerleader or not!!!! I had my daughter Morgan and her friend April Dillon in the car on the way to Meridian last Friday. Well, it seems that the way the cheerleader thing works is, after the final day of try-outs, that ends at 11am, No one know who's selected until they call a phone number at 3pm and get the news from an answering machine. Luckily for me, both of them made it! I had already told my wife that if one did and the other didn't, we were turning around and taking them home! I had to listen to them talk about it for 3 HOURS!!! They had worked themselves into such a frenzy, that they both went to bed by 8:30 that night.
Christopher's coming home this morning and won't have to go back until Wednesday morning sometime, so I better get some work done so we can do some things together today and tomorrow. Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll on the Board!

Why is Penn State's football stadium named Beaver Stadium?
Answer: It was named for James Addams Beaver, a local 19th century lawyer at the
onset of the Civil War, who enlisted as a second lieutenant in the Union Army
and ascended to the rank of brigadier general. Following his discharge in 1864,
he served as a superior court judge, governor of Pennsylvania and president of
the university's Board of Trustees. Winner: Ryan Smither.
Five former USC Trojans completed in the 2003 All-Star Game. Name three of them.
Answer: Geoff Jenkins, Bret Boone, Aaron Boone, Barry Zito
and Mark Prior. Winner: Joey Martin.
Finally, I've gotten a chance to slow down and write something. After being gone since last Friday thru Sunday attending Outdoors Shows, I had to be in Hammond early Monday morning and when I got back, I had to attend baseball games out at ACCS and Cathedral. Yesterday I headed out early for Meridian and another baseball game. But, better late than never, s o here goes my wrap-up!
Jarrett Hoffpauir is still lighting it up at USM, he had a career day on Saturday as he 5 hits and 5 RBI's as USM went on to beat Oklahoma State 21-5.
Congratulations to Coach John Gray, Glenn Williams and Gregory Ketchings on winning the MPSA All-Star basketball game over the North 126-124.
The Natchez High Powerlifting team won the 5A South State Title last Saturday
ACCS took one game out of 3 to a very good team in Central Private. Two of the contest games could have went either way. Don't count the Rebels out just yet, they'll be hanging around come play-off time!
Vidalia topped Bolton 11-0 on Monday. Tony Hawkins pitched a 1 hit shutout in 5 innings of play. Tony may just be the missing link that the Vikings were looking for!
Natchez High took two in the McComb Tournament by beating North Pike 7-6 and South Pike 11-7. This looks to be a much more focused team than last years squad.
Cathedral came out on top over Monterey on Monday 6-2, hot bats are coming back and only more playing time will get them even hotter!
Huntington beat Centreville 13-3, Coach Ashmore is back at it, doing what he knows best.....coaching baseball. The Hounds should go deep in the play-offs this year.
Trinity lost to Copiah 8-3 but new coach Matt Mason will get everything he can out of this team. They've got the talent.
ACCS ends one against Prairie View in the 5th as the score was 2-2, but after 4 runs scored in the bottom of the 5th, Glenn Williams hit a Grand Slam and then after Timmy Foster hit a single, David Trisler hit a 2 run shot to end the game.
Trinity dropped one to ASC 15-2 in the District 7-A opener on Tuesday but watch for these Saints to bounce back!
Christopher got his 2nd win of the season yesterday over Wabash College 11-1. He gave up a homerun in the 2nd inning along with 3 other hits, he only gave up one more hit in the contest. He finished the game in 6 innings with 5 hits, 1 walk, 1 hit batter, 1 earned run and 9 strikeouts. His current ERA is 2.45 and his season record is 2-0 with 2 no-decisions. MCC won the 2nd game of the double-header by the same score. MCC had 3 players hit 2 homers during these contest, Joey Lieberman, Kyle Ginn and Josh Morgan (one a Granny)...Van Pope didn't have much of a day at the plate but, he amazed the crowd with his play at third base. Wabash had 8 players from the Dominican Republic, and the one that hit the homer off of Christopher showed off his arm as he fielded a fly ball deep at the fence and threw one of the MCC players out that was tagging up and heading for third, the ball was there while the runner was 10 feet from the bag! This same player also had speed, and he bunted a ball down the third base line and Van Pope picked it up bare-handed and threw him out. This Dominican just stopped and looked around like he couldn't believe it, he finally just shook his head and headed back to the dug-out.
This weeks Sports Buzz will show the Powder-Puff football game between the ACCS Senior girls against the ACCS Junior girls. Now if you're thinking that this game was just for fun, you better watch this show. THEY'RE BRUTAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This weeks Redneck Adventures show has us back at Saucier's Quail Farm for another exciting hunt.
Joey Martin almost had a sweep in the Trivia contest, check out this weeks questions, they're much harder than last weeks, maybe he'll sweep this week.
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll on the Board...by the way, thanks to everybody that helps keep everything posted in there. I've been away soooo much lately and it sure does help to know that all the scores are being kept up in there.

Answer: Will Clark of Mississippi State. Winner: Walter

Jarrett Hoffpauir picked up 4 hits in 5 at bats including 2 doubles as the USM Golden Eagles swept La. Tech on Sunday 13-4. USM is 6-1 on the season.
Christopher Rayborn pitched the first 6 innings against Pensacola C.C. on Saturday and left the game with his MCC Eagles up 6-2. Pensacola came back and went ahead 7-6 before Joey Lieberman hit a walk off 3 run homer to end the game at 9-7. MCC won all 3 games this weekend and are now 9-1 on the season.
Prep baseball today as Trinity host ACCS, Vidalia host Oak Grove and Cathedral is at Block. Check the Baseball schedule for in other area games to be played today.
Being out of town during the weekend, I only got one coaches update, Gill Morris told me that ACCS is now 2-0 on the season as they won both of their games at the Amite Tournament. The Rebels won 2 games during a pre-season tournament but, he doesn't count those for the regular season tally.
I'll be out at Chester Willis Park today to film the AC/TE baseball game and should have it ready to show on this weeks Sports Buzz on channel 4 at 6pm.
I spent this past weekend in Canton, MS for the Ms. Fish & Wildlife Expo. Redneck Adventures had a booth and we had fun messing with the crowd and selling some Cajun Blast cooking products. We'll be headed to the coast this Friday for the big Boat & RV show and then we're headed to the Superdome on Saturday & Sunday for the Sportsman Show.

South Carolina, Temple and Vanderbilt. Winner: Joey Martin.
Name one of the three collegiate teams who have never played an overtime game since the NCAA adopted its current rules for overtime in 1996. Answer: Navy, Tulsa and North Texas. Winner: Joey Martin.
Joey Martin completes sweep! No correct answer to last weeks trivia questions. Not even trivia guru Walter Ketchings could crack a correct answer this time. In a telephone interview with Mr. Martin, he said, "I knew I could stump them, I've been really tired of people guessing all my questions, but I guess I showed them, huh?"
Vidalia softball team bows out again to Sacred Heart 1-0. A game that could have went either way, went the other way but, a valiant effort by the Lady Vikes let the competition know that they were in a ball-game! Ace pitcher Christy Corley K'd 5 and the one run was unearned. Congratulations to the Coach Gary Paul Parnham and his girls on a great season.
Cathedral is waiting for a regional championship game, after clobbering Scott Central 19-1 and smacking Union 11-1, the Green Wave is waiting to face the winner of Scott Central and Union game. Cathedral sits at the top with no losses in the tournament and would have to be beat twice to be eliminated. The tournament is being played at Chester Willis Field, it don't look like it'll happen today. Check the Bulletin Board for times. Keep'em Rolling Tide!
I can't believe that Eli Manning dissed my Bolts! The Chargers picked him first and he said he'd go back to Law School. I say, LET HIM GO! Did anybody believe he'd opt for Law School? Anyway, they traded him to New York for the Rivers kid. All I can think of is Ryan Leif, the Bolts thought he was better than Peyton. Where is Leif now anyway? Oh well, if Shotty don't get it done this year, he needs to go!
Congratulations to Cathedral's Von Hutchins on being selected in the 6th round by the Colts. He was the 20th cornerback selected in the NFL Draft.
Not a good weekend for USM baseball fans as Tulane handed the Eagles a handful of losses. Jarrett Hoffpauir doubled in Friday's and Sunday's games. Don't count'em out yet though, there's a ton of talent that'll explode on you before you know it!
Meridian C.C. finishes out the regular season by sweeping East Central C.C. in a double-header on Saturday. MCC won the first game 12-3, Christopher got his 8th win of the season to improve his record to 8-0 with a 1.67 ERA. He had one of those innings in the 3rd when a couple of flairs, a walk, a hit batter and a hit scored 3 earned runs. Bu that was the only threat EC could muster in the contest. MCC won the second game 12-5 but, it was a lot closer than that to begin with, the lead changed back and forth a few time before the Eagles finally woke up and heated the bats up. MCC finishes the regular season with a record of 36-8 overall and 12-4 in conference play. The Overall State Tournament will start this Thursday at Pear River C.C., this tournament consist of the top two teams from each of the three conferences. Division 1 & 2 schools play together. It's really nothing more than just bragging rights in the State. Next week will start the Division Tournament at MCC.
ACCS will host Jackson Academy in the first round of the MPSA AAA Tournament scheduled for Tuesday. JA is ranked #1 out of the North but, the North offensively hasn't put up the numbers the South has, so it should be an interesting contest between these two, as well as the other 3A contest. I'm thinking the South will rise again!!!!

MCC split with Delgado on Saturday winning the first game 1-0, Chad Catalono was the winning pitcher and Van Pope got the save. MCC lost the second game 5-1. I played in the Trinity Mayfair Golf Tournament last Friday, while my team didn't come in last, we were still pretty close to it! It was a fun day anyway and the first time I've gotten to play golf since the beginning of hunting season. I played with Adrian Sandel, Jimmy Allgood and Michael Scudaro (sp?) We shot 5 under and the winners shot 17 under!
There's still plenty of baseball and softball, as well as track, in the Miss-Lou, some teams are in the play-offs while others are getting close. Get out and support your team.
Hats off to Trinity baseball coach Matt Mason and a fine season, TE made the play-offs but were cut down there after 3 games. I'm sure Matt will teach these young men a lot about the game of baseball, he just needs the time!
I want to thank Adam Daigle and the Natchez Democrat for the article on Christopher in Sunday's paper. Christopher has a tough decision to make, especially with the toughest part of the season in front of him. I do need to clear a few things in the article though; Christopher will be 21 in August, he's 6'4 and he started the season around 205 lbs., but after you stop lifting weights during the season and start running a lot, everybody loses weight. Not big mistakes, just thought I'd clear them up some. Thanks again Adam!

Phil Mickelson wins the Masters! I had counted him out, I figured he'd just choke like all the other times in Major Championships but, there was something eerie about the way he kept smiling on the last few holes, it was like he knew it was his tournament. Maybe now that the monkeys finally off his back, he'll win more Majors.
Jarrett Hoffpauir is back at it again, hitting 2 homers yesterday and going 4 for 5 with a double also. USM is 27-6 overall & 10-2 in conference play. Congratulations Jarrett!
Christopher got his 6th win of the season last Friday and MCC improved their record to 30-5. MCC will travel to Wesson tomorrow in a non-conference game, Van Pope will probably pitch this 9 inning game. MCC will travel to Scooba, MS and take on conference rival East Mississippi C.C. on Wednesday, Christopher will pitch the 2nd game of this double-header. First game starts at 4pm, so I'll be getting home late! MCC and East Mississippi are both in Division 1, so their game could determine who gets to host the Regional Tournament. Last time they played, it was a split so, MCC needs to take both games on Wednesday.
Natchez High and Cathedral square off tonight at Liberty Park, I'll have to film it for the Sports Buzz, especially since I haven't had the chance to get Natchez High on TV yet this year. Plus, I'll get 2 birds with one stone!
Owning a satellite was well worth it this weekend, They were having the MLB Free Pass and I got to watch a lot of games that you wouldn't normally see. Now I'm wanting to spend the $149.00 to keep these channels!
We went bowfishing last Wednesday night down at Leeville, LA with Marsh Masters and had a blast, even though the water was a little dingy, we still got all the shooting we wanted. I shot 5 Sheephead myself, which was different because we normally only get a couple out of the whole trip. I nailed 4 nice Redfish also. Glen Wisner shot a nice 20 something pound alligator gar, this was the first one that I ever seen while out on the water. We went out Thursday to the rigs but, 4 to 6 foot seas with chop was too much for me, I felt bad the whole time we were out there. We caught some nice Reds, some Black Drum and had a real nice Amberjack got away. We'll get back down there later when the seas are right and try and get some Mangrove Snapper.
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll later in the week on the Board.

Christopher gave up 2 hits (both to the same player) had 9 K's and no walks. MCC lost the 2nd game only because they forgot how to play defense in the 5th inning! Giving up 4 runs on costly errors. Georgia Tech and UConn in the Finals tonight! I told ya'll to watch out for ole Georgia Tech, I'll be pulling for them again tonight!
I'll be leaving Wednesday, headed to Leeville, LA and another fishing trip with Marsh Masters Guide Service. After a night of bowfishing, we'll be getting up early Thursday morning to head out and try and get our limit of Mangrove snapper. There'll be a little twist to this trip though, Marsh Masters Capt. Bobby Bryan, Capt. Tommy Martin and Capt. Gary Harp will all be on board to see who's the Mangrove Snapper King! Should be interesting and I know the conversation will be entertaining.
Joey Martin almost had a sweep, if it hadn't have been a GIRL that answered the main question!

ACCS didn't fare as well but, they did play for a State Championship, and not too many teams can say that! They had a great run and have nothing to hold their heads down about. The Cathedral Baseball team has waited long enough! Hopefully they can start the first game of the State Championship today at 3pm right here in Natchez. The guys were working hard yesterday in preparations for today's play. I just hope that all the hard work pays off! Good Luck Greenwave!
ACCS baseball will resume tomorrow out at Rebel Field in last weeks first game with Jackson Prep. With the score tied at 3 apiece, the Rebels come into the bottom of the 6th inning with their 2, 3 & 4 batters. If they can scrounge up a run and hold Prep in the top of the 7th, it'll be hard for the Prepsters to sweep at home! Good Luck guys!
USM swept Charlotte in Conference USA Baseball and Jarrett Hoffpauir had 2 doubles in the 12-11 thriller, this brings their season to 39-13 and 20-7 in conference play.
Meridian C.C. were in the same situation as last year coming into the Super Regionals. They knew they were playing a team in Faulkner State, with a minus .500 record that just happened to get hot in their Regional Tournament. And the same thing happened again! Christopher pitched the first game, and while he didn't have his best stuff, he did keep them in the game until the 9th inning, he left the game with the bases loaded and the score tied 3-3. The relief pitcher came in and hit the first batter and then a few hits and and MCC came to bat with the score 7-3. The Eagles put up 2 runs in the bottom of the inning but, that wasn't enough and it meant that MCC had to sweep on Saturday for a trip back to the World Series. MCC left 13 runners stranded in the ball game, they just couldn't manufacture any runs.
In Game 2, pitcher Chad Catalano did an excellent job on the hill and MCC came away with a narrow 4-3 win but, this set-up the finale and the Eagles showed what they were made of! They took the 3rd game in an 11-2 bashing and Matt Creighton pitched his best game of the year. Van Pope left the day with 2 homers and almost went for the cycle in the 3rd game. Kyle Ginn's 2 run homer in the 3rd game eased the tension for everybody, it put the Eagles out far enough to pretty much ensure the Title.
I know ya'll have heard this before but, it finally rang true for me once! It's not WHAT you know but, WHO you know! Lisa's uncle works in the Oil Industry in Kuwait and, he's giving us free airline tickets to go to Grand Junction, CO (Home of the Junior College World Series) We'll leave May 28th and return when we've finished playing, hopefully after the Title Game! Christopher will finally get a much needed rest for his arm!
MCC will play Pensacola C.C. in the first game of the JUCO World Series at 9am on Saturday morning. Christopher pitched against them earlier this year and was up 6-2 when he left the game (pitch count rule early in the season) The next inning, the MCC relief crew gave up 5 runs and it stayed that way until the last inning when Joey Lieberman hit a 2 run walk-off. Pensacola got hot in their Regional Tournament and came away with the upset. If MCC can win on Saturday, they play the night-cap game on Monday night, this is the game that breaks records every year in attendance, after the game they have a huge fireworks display, and it the best one I've ever seen!
We went to Leeville, LA last Monday and got in some good bow-fishing that night, on this trip I shot a smorgasbord of fish, Redfish, Drum, Sheephead and my first Alligator Gar! We got back that night at about 3am, ate a ham sandwich and when I looked at my watch as I nestled into bed, it was 3:30am, the next time I looked at my watch, it was 6am and Mr. Glen Wisner and Mr. Kent Allgood were telling us to get up, it's time to go fishing! So off we go, bad weather and all, wind blowing, waves bashing...it was horrible.....but we did catch some nice Bull Reds and I think we caught every catfish in the ocean! Maybe twice! We were back in after lunch, grabbed a bite to eat and Jimmy Allgood and his paw in law Mr. Wisner, went back out for some Speckled Trout, they caught about 60 and out of the whole mess, they only had 3 that were keepers! At least we got a good bow-fishing show!
I'll be out at Chester Willis Field today doing an Anti-Rain dance for the Cathedral faithful. Then I'll be at ACCS tomorrow for hopefully, 1 inning of baseball. AC will travel to Jackson on Thursday for 2 games if necessary.

Congratulations to Cathedral High Baseball for winning game 1 of the best of three against Greenville St. Joe with a blasting 15-5 score. Game 2 is tonight right here in Natchez. Goof Luck guys!
ACCS knocks off Prep to earn a chance at winning the MPSA State Baseball Championship. Game 1 is tomorrow at ACCS and they'll play again on Thursday for the crown. Best of Luck to the Rebel squad!
The ACCS girls softball team finished as runners up at the MPSA State Softball Championship, they beat Parklane once and Parklane beat them once to set up the finals. Congratulations to girls, the coaching staff and all their supporters on a fantastic season!
MCC wins the Region 23 Tournament and will play the winner from the Alabama Series staring this coming Friday in a best of three series to see who gets to go to Grand Junction, CO for the JUCO World Series. Christopher pitched on Thursday against Delgado C.C. and threw one heck of a game! He gave up 3 runs on 3 hits, walked 2 and had 10 strikeouts. Oh Yeah, he hit 96 mph for the first time in the first inning! He is now 9-0 on the season as MCC won the game 4-3. Funny how this week's main page quote just opened up on me today, Christopher tried to throw on Sunday after just 2 days of rest. He never should have tried it but, he did and he gave up 2 two run homers in the first 3 innings to put MCC down 4-1. But his team battled back and started hitting the ball HARD! MCC won the deciding game with an 8 run after 7 innings rule, 14-6. Finally started hitting the ball in this tournament. Van Pope is now up to 16 homers after he hit 3 over the tournament and Joey Lieberman is at 16 also after he crushed 3. Should be an interesting match-up this week, we don't know who they'll be playing just yet, but we're thinking that Central Alabama will probably be the best team out of their series.
I heading out this morning to get in some fishing down in Leeville, LA with Marsh Masters, we'll go bow-fishing tonight and go out and try to limit out on Mangrove Snapper in the morning.
I better get a move on, I'll post this week's trivia when I get back on Wednesday, shouldn't matter because Joey got 2 out of 3 from ya'll last week! hahahaha
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll on the Board on Wednesday!

The MHSAA State Golf Tournament will be held at Beau Pre' C.C. on Wednesday.
Gary Farmer, Henry Farmer, Jordan Farmer & David Cothern win the Joe Fortunato Celebrity Golf Classic, held at Duncan Park G.C. on a rain shortened 18 hole event. They shot 17 under.
OK, I hope I've covered everything, but I'm sure I missed something! But I was gone from Thursday until Sunday night. We traveled to Poplarville, MS for the Mississippi Junior College State Baseball Tournament. Meridian C.C. played Co-Lin C.C. on Thursday and came out on top after an impressive display of baseball by the Wolf Pack from Wesson. With Friday came the rain, and then some more rain! So play was suspended and everything moved back a day. MCC played the host team of Pearl River C.C. at 10am on Saturday morning, Christopher pitched 6 innings, scattering 4 hits and allowing no runs with MCC up 1-0. Van Pope came in to close the game and gave up a run to send the game into extra innings. MCC scored in the top of the 8th, PRCC scored in the bottom of the 8th, MCC scored another run in the top of the 9th, as did PRCC in the bottom. The 10th went by and MCC didn't score, PRCC tried a trick play to bring a runner from third to home and it failed as the runner was tagged out trying to steal home. MCC's Michael Murray hit a homerun in the top of the 11th to put MCC up by one. Van Pope shut them down in the bottom of the inning to secure the win.
Co-Lin defeated Delta C.C. on Sunday as Franklin County's Colby Beach took the mound in impressive fashion as he picked up the win. The win puts Co-Lin in the Final Day of the tournament.
MCC played PRCC again on Sunday but, this time the tables turned, a third inning 2 run homer (after a called save at first to the previous batter that was highly controversial) one of the MCC coaches was livid! and then ejected from the game. Somehow (and I haven't got the full story yet) the PRCC first base coach, got in an argument with some players in MCC's dug-out and came stormed in there with them. Then the PRCC head coach came running in with their whole team in a dead heated race behind him. I'm not sure what was said but, I do know that the first base coach wishes he had never went into the dugout! 2 MCC players were ejected following the incident and so was the first base coach from PRCC, it was totally out of control at the ballpark. PRCC went on to win the game 4-2. MCC moves to 38-9 on the year. Christopher is still holding at 8-0 with 3 no-decisions and a 1.50 ERA. MCC middle relief pitcher Jason Phillips was doing an excellent job on the hill when he heard a pop in his arm, he thought it was nothing after the team trainer and the coaches went out to check on him, he tried to throw one more pitch and that's when it hit him, he had popped something in his elbow. So MCC loses an experienced reliever that had never had arm troubles before, in fact, he had just told his parents that his arm was in the best shape that it has ever been in. Jason signed with S.E. Missouri State for next year, he'll have an appointment with Dr. Andrew's some time this week to see the extent of the damage, please keep this young man in your prayers.
So here's the scenario, MCC will play Co-Lin today and the winner of that game will play PRCC for the State Championship. I'm not going to make it there today but, my nephew said he'd be there and I'll be burning his cellular minutes up fast!
MCC will host the Region 23 Div. 1 Baseball Tournament starting this Thursday. MCC will play Delgado at 7pm that night with Christopher getting the starting nod.
Ya'll have a great week and I'll see ya'll around town!

Jarrett Hoffpauir has already been called up to the extended Class A team. He's been lighting it up and deservedly so, he got the call! Best of wishes to Jarrett! He's done what it takes to be where he is.
The lovely weather we've been having has moved all local baseball action ahead. For some, it better take place this week as Sub-District and District Tournaments are in line regardless! And Mother Nature doesn't look like she's going to let up much this week either!
Cal State Fullerton pulled off the upset as they beat top seeded Texas in the first two meetings of the College World Series. I enjoyed watching both of these games and they were equally matched through the contest. CSF just never gave up!
The State Games of MS. were held over the weekend although they played in and around the rain storms. The tournament was cut short and losers left after posting a loss. The Co-Lin District won their first game with Corey Walker on the hill for the complete game. They lost their second game and headed home.
I talked with Christopher yesterday and his back is much better now, he threw a bull-pen yesterday morning and everything felt great, they'll re-insert him in the rotation and he should pitch sometime this week. His spirits are back up and everything seems to be OK again.
I want to thank everyone that wrote him a letter, ya'll just don't know how special it means to him to receive them. He told me about everybody that wrote him and I'm sure he wrote everybody back. If you missed the address it's: Christopher Rayborn LaQuinta Inn #984 - 16321 North 83rd Ave. - Peoria, AZ 85382, he has a lot of free time on his hands and you can only play video games so many times a day!
The Redneck Adventures crew went to Orange Beach, AL last Tuesday and fished with Reel Time Charters aboard the Fish-N-Fool. We caught a few King Mackerel, Red Snapper, Mangrove Snapper, Amberjack and Benita. We dodged a pretty good storm while we were out there but, the captain knew how to maneuver us around it without getting but a few sprinkles on us. We had a good time and caught plenty of fish for the freezer. If you're interested in fishing the next time you're in Gulf Shores, contact Capt. Erik Manthei at www.fishnfool.com I promise you that you'll catch fish!

While some things change, some remain the same! Jarrett Hoffpauir making the switch to wooden bats didn't slow him down any as he went 3 for 4 with a double and a homer in his first start in the St. Louis Cardinal Rookie Season. He scored all 3 runs as his team beat Hudson Valley 3-1 last Saturday. The boys got pop! For those of you that didn't know, Jarrett is the son of World Famous Softball Player, Pam Hoffpauir. So now you know where his talent came from!
Phil Mickelson turned up the heat at the U.S. Open on Sunday, but he quickly emptied a water tower on the blaze as he doubled the 17th hole, which took him out of a tie for the lead. Retief Goosen took the honors. As I watched this tournament over the weekend, I wasn't excited about somebody maybe making a charge, at this course, it just couldn't be done! Every green was turtle-backed to some extent and I didn't think it was fun to watch as a spectator because I want to see the magic these professionals perform, and with this course, they looked like me playing! I know some will disagree with me but, hey, that's your opinion!
I spent the weekend out at Natchez State Park in the camper, while I was there, Christopher called me and told me that he threw a "pen" the other day and that he was consistently 94-95 mph, he said his new and improved slider is really good at times, and even when it's not "on" it's still not too bad. They have a ritual after every "pen session" where the pitcher goes over to the catcher afterwards and thanks him for catching him. Well on this day, the catcher was a Dominican, that doesn't speak much English, the catcher said," You Throw Ball #*@$*!^#% Hard Man!" Christopher will have his first start This coming Friday against Kansas City. He's got a lot of free time when they're not practicing, so he gets pretty bored, if you would like to send him a letter, I'm know he would love it! His address is: LaQuinta Inn #984 - 16321 North 83rd Ave. - Peoria, AZ 85382...Thanks!
Geez! Did ya'll see the picture of the fish that Jerry Pyron caught, in the paper yesterday? A 631.7 lb. Blue Marlin that he caught during the 8th Annual Mississippi Gulf Coast Bill-Fish Classic. It netted him $105,400 to boot....I know, he really needed the extra cash, huh?
I'm headed out today for Gulf Shores, Alabama to film some shows with Reel Time Charters aboard the Fish-N-Fool. We'll probably go after Trigger Fish tomorrow morning and then go bottom fishing for Red Snapper in the evening. It should be a great trip as Capt. Erik Manthei says the weather is great and the seas are calm...and I prefer calm seas! Check out their website at: www.fishnfool.com
I'm outta here and I'll catch ya'll when I get back on Wednesday.

What a trip! Over the course of 3 days of fishing at Lake Guerrero with Lago Vista Lodge, we caught approximately 750 bass! Getting into Mexico was much easier than I thought, the guy that picked us up at the airport wheeled us through the border with no problems. Once we got to the lodge, our accommodations were fantastic and the food was some of the best that I ever had, full course meals at every sitting. All of the fishing guides have been doing this since they were kids, some even started guiding at 10 & 11 years old. They know where to find the fish, they don't know a lot of English but, they know enough to carry on short conversations. They've already invited us back in August for Dove and Quail season. The owner of the lodge holds the record for most Doves harvested in a day at 737 birds. He promised us that we'll quit shooting before the birds stop flying! All in all, it was a trip of the lifetime and it was much more affordable than I thought, check out their website at: www.lagovistalodge.com and see what I'm talking about!
I talked with Christopher when I got back in the States, he told me that there were about 10 Americans on his team and the rest were Dominicans, he said that they don't speak ANY English! He said that one day he was sitting in the locker room and looked up and in came Ryan Klesko, I asked him if he was nice and he said, "Dad, that dude is crazy!" Seems Klesko was working out of an injury and went over to their camp to work out for a few days. He told me that he really knows 5 guys pretty good but 2 of them would be leaving for Eugene, OR as they are older, he also said that he thinks quite a few of the Dominicans will be leaving also. Christopher will be the #2 starter when the season starts. I'll let ya'll know the web site information if ya'll want to keep up with his progress during the season as soon as I find it out.

Bad morning, I had already written this and somehow, I deleted everything! So I'm having to re-build the whole site...as you can tell already! Ahh, it probably needed a face-lift anyways!
Meridian lost both games at the JUCO World Series, Christopher pitched the first game in gale force winds, rain and temp in the 30's! But he still didn't pitch well and the defense played poorly in both games, just too many errors and bad pitching both days.
Christopher signed with the San Diego Padres Sunday evening, he received 4th round money and got an incentive bonus and college scholarship for 2 years in full! He'll fly out to Peoria, AZ on June 12th for a mini camp and then they'll start the Rookie season around the 19th...70 games in 77 days! He'll fly back home for about a week and a half, then he'll fly back out for the Instructional League that will last for 3 weeks. Then he'll be home until February or so, not sure yet, and he'll be assigned to one of their single A teams, probably.
Jarrett Hoffpauir just plain "Lit It Up" during the Conference USA Championships, I saw where he was batting over .500 at one point late in the Tournament. I don't look for Jarrett to be an Eagle next year, with his stats, he ought to be drafted in the low rounds in the upcoming MLB Draft. Best of luck Jarrett!!!!
I'm headed to Lake Lincoln either tomorrow or Thursday, Lisa had already taken the whole week off so, we're going over there for some R&R and golf at Wolf Hollow. Gill Morris is taking his camper also, so I'll have somebody to abuse for the weekend, both on the course and off! He's easy pickens!
Joey Martin has been on a tear on the Trivia main question but, I think it ends this week! better get those picks in quick!
This page isn't complete, so bear with me until I can finish it all, ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll on Monday!

Monterey High School fielded a football team in 1983. But it
wasn't until 1985 that the Wolves won a game. Who did they beat?
Answer: East Beauregard. Winner: Joey Martin.
Bonus Questions
How was the huddle in football first used? Answer: The
'huddle' in football was formed due to a deaf football player who used
sign language to communicate and his team didn't want the opposition to see the
signals he used and in turn huddled around him. Winner: Joey Martin.
Who did Notre Dame's Four Horsemen beat in their final game?
Answer: The Irish downed Stanford in the Rose Bowl, 27-10
in 1925. The Four Horsemen were Jim Crowley, Elmer Layden, Don Miller and Harry
Stuhldreher. Winner: Joey Martin.
P.Z. Brewer wins the Bill McKinney Memorial City Golf Championship by a stroke over Chuck Fields. This was P.Z.'s second time to win the event. Lee Jones won the 1st flight, Ricky Williams won the 2nd flight, Allen Smith won the 3rd flight, Bruce Massey won the 4th flight and Danny Farr won the 5th flight. I shot an 82 on Saturday and a 79 on Sunday to finish in 5th place in the 3rd flight....they awarded gifts to the first 4 places,...about right! The course was in good shape but, after playing at Beau Pre', the Parks greens were really slow, and I mean really slow! I 3 putted 4 times yesterday!
Any bicycle riders out there? Lance Armstrong does it again with a win at the Tour de France. Yippee!
Take notice! The Vidalia Minor League All-Stars are kicking butt and taking names! They beat Shreveport 24-14! They'll play the loser of the Ville Platte/Gonzales game today at 5pm. Good Luck guys!
Christopher pitched yesterday for the first 2 and a third innings, I'm not real sure the pitch count had anything for his removal yesterday. He said that he felt that his curve ball was working and he was pitching good but, anytime he threw a fastball or changeup, they lit it up! He said it was like they knew what he was throwing. Sooooo, he's not in a very good mood AGAIN! We're flying out there on Friday. Hopefully by then, moods will have changed.
Joey Martin sweeps the Trivia this week! I had a few answers but, no winners. Good job Joey!
Ricky Williams to retire from football? I knew something wasn't right with him ever since I first saw that picture of him and Ditka, and Williams was wearing the bridal gown!
Speaking of football....Action starts today for most area MPSA teams. It will mostly be running and running in the morning sessions followed by running and running in the evening sessions. In between the conditioning drills, there will be, more than likely, sessions of running. Do I miss playing football? Not at this time of year! By the way, if anybody sees me running, please stop and help me because somebody is chasing me! If I'm walking, pick me up. If I'm riding a bike... I lost my truck, please give me some lunch money.
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll when I get back from Peoria, AZ on Tuesday!

Who was Alabama playing in 1971 when Bear unveiled the wishbone offense?
Answer: Southern California. Winner: Bill Darsey.
Name the Mississippi State quarterback who had 17 straight completions over two
games in 1978. Answer: Dave Marler. Winner: Rusty McPhate.
Things are better out in Peoria, AZ where Christopher is playing, he got to pitch more than one inning in his last outing. The bases were loaded with 2 outs and they brought him in, he got the batter to ground out. He pitched the next 2 innings and although he gave up 1 run, he said that nobody hit him solid. He seems to be in better spirits now and he should pitch again either today or tomorrow. We're going out to visit him from July 30th through August 3rd.
The Natchez 14 year old's put a beating on Jackson Saturday but lost a tough one yesterday to Cleveland. It's a double elimination tournament so, they're still alive. Their games have been broadcast on 107.1 FM, tune in to hear the game!
We headed out last Thursday to Buras, LA to do some Speckled Trout fishing with Rob "Redbone" Martin, the inventor of "The Speculizer" it's a popping cork with a DOA shrimp tied onto it and it's been the latest craze for the last year now. We caught tons of fish and brought home around 60 nice specks for consumption. We fished Friday morning out of Port Sulfur and then we fished out of Buras in the evening. The fishing out of Buras was better in that we caught bigger fish plus, we got on one hole and stayed there for over an hour hauling them in. One thing about the Speculizer is, you don't have to keep putting shrimp on the hooks! And believe me, that can get old really fast! It'll be a great show, be sure and catch it when we put it on the air. We picked on Redbone a good bit and he took it pretty good.
Saturday morning I sat back and enjoyed watching the British Open, Sunday morning, just when things were starting to heat up with several players making moves to the top, I had to leave for Sunday School. When I got back home, Ernie Els and Todd Hamilton were playing the last hole. I was frustrated because I had missed so much but, the golf gods let me enjoy 4 more holes of a Sudden Death playoff between the two and Todd Hamilton played flawlessly on the four holes to capture the title.
I want to thank James Lee for providing last weeks Sports Buzz film. James loves to video and hopefully, he'll be providing more game footage in the future.

Larry Davis and Paul Sparks win the Wharlest Jackson Elks Lodge Scramble out at Duncan Park G.C. after shooting a 2 day total of 123. Richard Edgin and Chuck Fields won the first flight with a 127. Gary Farmer and David Cothren won the third flight with a 130 and Lane Morse and Lloyd Gilbert won the third flight with a 140.
Both of the Hoffpauir boys are batting .333 at their respective teams. I read on the Board where Johnny Lee is headed to Peoria to watch some games.....watch out Peoria!!!!
Christopher pitched another inning yesterday and gave up one hit, walked one, no runs and got a pop-out and a double play to end his inning. He's pretty sick of the one inning deal and hopes to get more innings on his next outing. He has now thrown a grand total of 3 innings and he's just not used to that, especially after he was scheduled to be a starter before he got the creak in his back. His spirits are down but, he's got a meeting today with the player development man and they should start to turn things around shortly. He just isn't getting the bull-pen work to get his back sharp again, throwing in relief doesn't allow him the time to work on his game because they can call him in at any time. Anyway, he told me that he's received more letters and I thank ya'll for them.
Last Friday the Redneck Adventures crew went over to Lake St. John and filmed Matt Mason and Jeff Rymer, hand-grabbing catfish from pipes, tanks, holes in trees and anything else under the water that had a hole in it! They caught around 35 fish and it made a great show. We were filming one of the scenes close to a pier where Andrew Ellard and Chris Rasco were at and they wanted to get in on some of the action, so in the water they plunged and shortly afterwards, they each had pulled up some nice catfish. We got it all on film and it was exciting. The show will be on in a few weeks and I'll let ya'll know when it airs. This week is a bow-fishing trip from Leeville, LA and we stuck several different species of fish on this outing.
This weeks Sports Buzz is footage from the 9/10 Ferriday vs. Winnsboro All-Stars baseball game.
There are several games around the Miss-Lou, get out and find one to watch this evening, you'll be glad you did!
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll on the Board!

The Hoffpauir's are doing well at their respective teams, each one is doing their part and impressing their teams. If you don't read the Bulletin Board, you need to start as their father does a great job of keeping us all updated on their progress. Way to go guys, ya'll are making us all proud!
Christopher got in an inning yesterday and the results were far from what he expected, he was pretty down yesterday evening when I talked to him but, I think he learned something valuable in the end. After the first batter hit a ball to third, the third baseman deflected it off his glove and the runner advanced to second base. The next batter bunted and the third baseman threw the ball to first base, but the throw was late. So with runners on first and third, the next batter hit another shot to third and he throws it to second and the second baseman over throws first base, so the guy on third scores. The next batter hits a 2 run homer. He got the next 2 guys to ground out to close the inning. He told me he was throwing in the upper 80's and that he hit 90 once. He told me that the catcher was calling mostly fast-balls and he just threw what he called. The catcher is a high school draftee that was picked in the 3rd round and Christopher assumed that he knew what he was doing. After I explained to Christopher that he better start taking charge on the hill and start shaking some calls, and that the high school players coach probably made all his calls, I think he now understands that he has to be in charge. He later told me that the pitching coach said the same thing. It was really depressing talking with him, he was about as down as I've ever seen him. But a call later that evening found him eating out with some of his teammates and I could tell that he had pretty much gotten over it and was ready to move on. Thanks again for those that have sent him letters, he really appreciates it!
Well I went to Leeville, LA on Saturday and Pat Smith rode down with me, my brother Gary showed up a few hours later and we had a monster feast on the 4th of July. Enjoyed good fellowship with some old friends and enjoyed the company of some new friends. That night we headed out of Bell Pass with Capt. Gary Harp, his wife JoAnn, Mike and Colleen Lancaster and went about 12 miles to one of the Oil rigs and tied up. We got into the Mangrove Snapper quickly and within 4 hours, we had 30 of them and headed back. The 30 that we caught filled up 3 of their fish baskets, Gary Harp said that it usually holds 50 Mangrove in those same 3 baskets, so we had really caught some nice quality fish. Most were in the 8 to 10 lb. range. All of the Marsh Masters family of guides were catching fish on Saturday and Sunday, if you're interested in going fishing, now is the time to go! You can contact them by visiting their site at: www.marshmasters.com
Area All-Star teams will crank back up this evening, the rains have been horrible and getting games in has been tough! Get out their and support these young players, it's always so exciting this time of year.
Ya'll have a great week and I'll see ya'll on the Board!

Whew!!!! Just got back in this evening from Arizona, Christopher was right...IT'S HOT OUT THERE!!!! Kinda feels like a sauna but, they did move their games to 7pm and that made a huge difference. We got there Friday and had plenty of time to travel over to Maryvale to play the Brewers. Christopher pitched good and although he gave up 4 hits, 2 of them were mental mistakes by the defense. I think things will be much better now since the night games have kicked in. When he goes back for the Instructional League, it'll be late September and the weather is much better then. All in all, we had a great time and look forward to going back in the Spring.
I was out earlier of last week as Redneck Adventures traveled down to Venice, LA and went on 3 different trips. The first night we went bowfishing with Deep Delta Tours, it was sorta slow because the tides had them messed up but, we still shot quite a few fish for the show. The next morning we went Spec fishing with Louisiana Paradise Charters and we didn't get to catch but a few fish before a storm brewed up and we spent the day trying to avoid the rain, we traveled a long way and never got wet! The last day we went fishing with Capt. Eric Nacotre ( I know I spelled it wrong) but anyway, he hooked us up!!!! We caught around 30 Specs and 11 of them averaged 4 lbs., one was over 6 lbs., It was a blast, I ain't never caught Specs this big. Capt. Eric said not to expect this every time we come down, we just caught the conditions right.
I haven't had time to catch up on what happened around here while I was gone but, I'll start reading papers when I get home tonight.
Redneck Adventures will have a booth at the Mississippi Wildlife Expo this weekend at the Trade Mart Building in Jackson. Ya'll come by and visit with us. We're selling foam bricks, should have a lot of fun throwing them at people during the show!
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll on the Board!!!!

Are You Ready For Some Football!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's that time of year and Jamborees start this Friday night, I can hardly wait! Even the Bulletin Board has already began to start cracking about "Who's gonna do what." Get ready Miss-Lou, Football Fever is about to bite everybody. The Sports Buzz this week will have interviews with coaches and players to find out what each team will have. Stay tuned!
What a feeling I had this morning as I got into my truck and looked across and saw my baby daughters car sitting there with "Seniors" written across the back windshield! I'm really not that old...am I?
Got a call from Christopher last Wednesday night at about 12:30am, he had pitched that night and was pretty excited, he had a Perfect Game going into the 5th inning, and then he walked a guy. He picked a good night to pitch well as the guy in charge of Player Development was there, he decides where you go next. Christopher will pitch tonight against the Giants, remember me telling ya'll that the Giants don't have but one rookie team and they won the first half of the Rookie season.
I spent the weekend at the MS. Wildlife Extravaganza in Jackson, MS.....there was a great turnout and Redneck Adventures entertained the masses on stage doing bit comedy....of course with Jimmy Allgood up there, that ain't much of a stretch! We'll be at the MS. Wildlife Expo this weekend here in Natchez, hopefully they'll have a great turnout as well, last I heard, they had only 3 booths left!
Jarrett Hoffpauir has hit homerun number 6 on the season and sporting a .290 batting average, I saw where Josh Hoffpauir posted on the Board, he batting .278 but, I'm sure we'll see that rise shortly. Christopher's buddy Van Pope is at .273. Christopher's ERA to date is 6.75, it's been tough getting it down since those first couple of games! Best of luck to you guys and remember, hang in there and keep battling!
Joey Martin made a Clean Sweep in the trivia last week, hopefully, ya'll will fare better this week!
Ya'll have a great week and I'll probably run into some of ya'll out by the grid-iron this Friday night.

Answer: Jackie Harris. Winner: Joey Martin.
Name the two Alabama players who have been Super Bowl MVPs.
Answer: Bart Starr and Joe Namath. Winner: Patrick Jones.
Well I hope that all the area fans got to scratch that itch last Friday night.....I for one did! I enjoyed the Trinity Jamboree and although every year when this held, at any school, most of the coaches just run straight plays, nothing fancy to show any innocent by standing coach from another school, "What They Got!" Adams Christian showed that they have a big line up front, something that they haven't the best of blessing in over the last couple of years but, the skill positions are few and it's very important that they keep the few, injury free. Trinity lost the bulk of their linemen due to graduation but, they have some key skill people that will keep the opposition honest. All in all, it was a great Jamboree with great attendance and great football to watch. Huntington will do well in Class 1 A this year, they had some good looking players out there and they look like they're headed in the right direction. Brookhaven Academy was the other school attending and they had a sophomore QB that really impressed me with his speed, they should have a good year as well.
ACCS will host Centreville Academy this Thursday night, it may possibly be the only football game in the State that night. Huntington will travel to Grawood on Friday night and Trinity will travel to Amite School Center.
Christopher called me Sunday morning (12:30am), he pitched 3 innings of Perfect baseball, and ended up pitching 6 innings, that's the most for him yet. He got another no-decision, so he's still one and one on the season. He's pitched in 10 games and started 6. His ERA only dropped a little from 6.15 to 6.12 but, he's still in good spirits! He'll pitch next on August 19th....his birthday! He'll be 21...geez, Lisa is getting old! I talked to him on Sunday evening and he told me that he got an e-mail address, if you would like to drop him a line, it's: maillto:ckrayborn@hotmail.com I even made it easy for you, just click on the link. He'll enjoy hearing from ya'll.
I hope to get interviews from Coach King and Coach Faircloth for this week 's Sports Buzz, I'll have footage from the Jamboree as well.
High school softball is being played around the Miss-Lou, I hope to get all the schedules on here, the Democrat has them listed daily. Get out there and support these girls, I hope to have some footage from some of these games for the Sports Buzz soon.
Redneck Adventures spent the weekend out at the MS. Wildlife Expo in the Natchez Convention Center. The turnout was small but, with the Jamboree on Friday night, that didn't help matters much! There was plenty of good entertainment there and those that attended could find almost any item that a hunter could want for the upcoming season.
Joey Martin almost pulled off the sweep in the Trivia contest but, Democrat Sportswriter Patrick Jones ruined the chances!
Ya'll have a great week and I'll see ya'll on the gridiron!

Michigan and its first Sugar Bowl championship. Answer: Al
Del Greco. Winner: Joey Martin.
Alabama has tied only one time in a homecoming contest. Who was it against?
Answer: Alabama and Mississippi State played to a 7-7 tie
in 1953. Winner: Joey Martin.
Last Thursday & Friday night saw the first regular season games for some local teams, ACCS lost to Centreville by 2 TD's but, they had their chances! They should have scored on 3 different drives that could have turned the score the other way but, mistakes can happen early in the year like these and all you can hope for is that they live and learn! ACCS will travel all the way to Trinity this Friday night for what will be a much better game than most think!
Trinity handed ASC a spanking 34-0 and did it early! No matter what anybody says about this young squad, they're scrappy! They know the feeling of winning and are intent on doing it! The atmosphere this coming Friday night will be filled adrenaline!
Natchez High hosted a Jamboree last Friday night and dropped 2 games, a 17-0 loss to Wilkinson County and a 7-0 loss to Jefferson County, although unofficial, it gives them an indicator of where they are at this point. The Bulldogs will host Port Gibson this Friday night and I'm betting things will change by then!
The Vidalia Jamboree will be this Saturday night and as always, it's a great turnout with alot of hard nose football! It'll be a little different this year as each ream will play only one other team for 2 quarters. Cathedral will be in participating to wrap up all the teams in the Miss-Lou seeing action this coming weekend.
Christopher called last Friday morning (only 12:15am this time) he got his second win on the season and improves to 2-2 on the season, his ERA dropped to 5.87. His team made quite a few errors while his was on the mound and the coaches were extremely happy in him because he kept on battling through 6 innings. He'll pitch again on Tuesday and maybe one more time before he comes home on September 1st. He's enjoyed your e-mails, if you would like to send him one, his email link is here: Christopher Rayborn
The Sports Buzz will have the ACCS/Centreville game and the TE/ASC game, because these were the only games this week, I'll be showing most of them in their entirety...as much as I can anyway!
AYA Football - There will be a mandatory coaches meeting on Wednesday, August 25 at 7:00 PM at the ACCS Multi Purpose Center.
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll on the Board!

career sacks and No. 8 in career tackles at Louisiana Tech.

Lance Reed totaled 357 tackles. Winner: Charlie Mascagni.
Bonus Questions
He coached Bill Dooley, Vince Dooley's brother, at
Mississippi State. Name the coach. Answer: Darrell Royal.
Winner: Charlie Mascagni.
He was named Player of the Century by Auburn football fans in 1992.
Answer: Tucker Frederickson. Winner: Charlie Mascagni.
I was out of town last Friday night attending an outdoors expo but, I kept in contact via my cell phone from my nephew who called me every time something happened during the ACCS/TE football game. Sounded like a hard fought battle between the two and although ACCS came out the victor, TE proved themselves worthy in this contest and should carry this game through the rest of year, knowing that they can play with a lot of the other 2A teams in their district.
Congratulations to Natchez High coach Lance Reed on getting his first victory! Natchez High needed this and they got it, maybe this will turn some heads and more wins will come for the Bulldogs.
Cathedral football got a few setbacks during the Vidalia Jamboree, with some already hurt and others going down during the game, the Green Wave will re-organize and get some young guys ready to play. The coaching staff will have their hands full but, don't count them out just yet, I'm sure they've been through this before and they know how to handle it!
Vidalia won their game in the Jamboree but, it was a hard fought battle over rival Ferriday, who is expected to do very well in their district this year. Coach Dee Faircloth can never be counted out though, he's always can another trick under his sleeve!
Congratulations to Lee Jones on winning the Beau Pre' Club Championship!!!! With Lee just being a senior this year at Trinity, he's got plenty more time to capture a few more.
We had plans on picking Christopher up at the airport tomorrow but, plans were changed and now he'll be heading to Eugene, Oregon to play for the Emeralds during the last week of their short season. He'll fly out there on Thursday and then he'll get to come home on either Sunday or Monday. He won't get much time at home as he'll be headed back to Peoria, AZ for the Instructional League on Sept. 22nd.
Redneck Adventures went bow-fishing Sunday night with Rick's Pro Truck and Bohn Automotive, we had a blast and filled the ice chest up with fish. Monday morning, the same groups went out and caught their limits of redfish. We had a great time with some even greater people.
Poooooor Joey, he let Charlie answer all of his trivia questions, maybe he'll stump him this week!
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll back in here later!

Bonus Questions
This walk-on was named Outstanding Defensive Player for Ole Miss in the Rebels'
42-29 Liberty Bowl win over Air Force. Answer: Jeff
Carter. Winner: Doc Fungo
Who were the captains of the 1986 Alabama football team?
Answer: Mike Shula and Cornelius Bennett . Winner: Stone Cold Scuba Steve.
Football in the Miss-Lou took a beating last Friday night, ACCS had too many key players on the sidelines to take on 3A Parklane, at least this year, it doesn't count in the standings. Cathedral is playing without several key players also and had to face a tough Madison St. Joe team. Natchez High coming off a win last Friday night had a much tougher opponent in South Pike and fell also, just too many penalties. Trinity faced one of the toughest teams in their district in Oak Forest, they kept the score much closer than most would have thought. Vidalia lost to a very good defensive team in Block. Hopefully, we'll get things turned around next week!
Christopher pitched last Friday night in Eugene, OR, he started for the Emeralds. He struck out the 1st batter, the next one got a single and the 3rd batter hit into a routine double play ball to the short-stop except.....the SS (Million Dollar signee Matt Bush) bobbled the ball and everybody was safe. Then it got ugly! Errors and unofficial errors and the score after he walked off the mound was 7-0! with NO EARNED RUNS!!!!! They scored one more unearned run in the 2nd inning and he gave up his 1st earned run in the 3rd inning, then they pulled him. He left the game with a runner on which scored later so he was credited with giving up 2 earned runs in 3.1 innings and the score at 9-2. The coaches told him that he should have been out of it after the 3rd batter and he said they really liked his pitching, especially his change-up. So he was in good spirits and is flying home today, we'll be driving to Baton Rouge this evening to pick him up at the airport. He'll have 16 days at home before he heads back to Peoria, AZ for the Instructional League.
I went to Leeville, LA last Friday evening with one of the sponsors for Redneck Adventures, after I listed to Christopher's game on the Internet, we headed out on the airboat for some bow-fishing. It was fun, just me , my sponsor and Daryl from Marsh Masters Guide Service. No camera! Just out having some fun. The wind and rain had muddied the water pretty good, we didn't have much luck with the Redfish as we only boated one but, if there was a limit on Sheephead, we would have come close! We were knocking them suckers out left and right! Sunday we had a trip planned to go offshore with the winner of the fishing trip we gave away on 107.1 FM "The River", Shelby Ensminger, his son Chris and a friend of theirs, along with Mike Thompson and Sam Jones from the radio station, Our sponsor Maury Andrews from Sportsmans Camo Covers, Me & Jim Bob and Capt. Bobby Bryan and deck hand Brandon (We just call him Tiny) were all loaded up on the boat and decided thatwith all the wind that, we'd just go fishing in the Bays for Redfish. Everybody got a Bull Red...even Sam! (Finally) We brought back a nice catch and cleaned them up, bagged them and headed back home yesterday evening. We're headed back next Sunday evening to film a Shark show with bows, you are only allowed 1 shark per day but, everybody will get to shoot it since, just one arrow won't land him in the boat!
Be sure and check this weeks Sports Buzz, I'll have footage from the area games!
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll in here on the Board!

Winner: Joey Martin.
Who was the first football player on a Wheaties box?
Answer: Walter Payton. Winner: Eddie Brewer.
Miss-Lou Football fared better this past week with ACCS, Trinity & Vidalia getting W's! ACCS will host Huntington this Friday night with former head coach Bo Swilley at the helm now at Huntington. This should be a great game and a great crowd as these two cross river teams mix it up. Cathedral will host West Lincoln, the Greenies are gaining experience each game and should fare better in this one. Natchez High will host Warren Central and this one won't be a push over, the Bulldogs will have their hands full and will have to keep the turnovers minimal. Trinity will host a very scrappy Prairie View, I went to the ACCS/Prairie View game last Friday night and the officiating was lop-sided, Trinity should get the win at home. Vidalia fresh off the spanking of Newellton last week will travel to Avoyelles this Friday night, this should be a great game to watch!
After the ACCS/Prairie View game, we stayed at a State Park just North of Bastrop for the weekend and I had the chance to go and visit Simmons Sporting Goods. I had heard about this place and it was everything that I had heard! This place has everything! I even ran into a few ACCS players in the store that stayed over just to go in there the next day. There was so much camouflage in there that I thought I was outside in the woods! I would have left there without purchasing anything but.....they had women's clothing, so Lisa spent a few dollars.
Sunday evening, the Redneck Adventures crew headed out to Leeville, LA, the Hurricane wasn't coming until Wednesday or Thursday so, we were OK. The seas were too rough to go out and try and shoot a Shark with a Bow so, we opted to wait and go bow-fishing at night. It started a little slow but, it picked up rather quickly and we had our limits of Redfish. We also got plenty of Sheep Head and Drum, I got the only Alligator Gar, a nice one about 25 to 30 lbs. So back we get back to the landing at about 2:30am, ready for a good nights sleep and one of the local guides is at the dock and tells us that New Orleans is being evacuated starting at daybreak! He also said that the last time they did this, it took him 8 hours to get to Baton Rouge from Leeville, because of the traffic. So we decided to take turns driving and head back home. We pulled into Natchez at 7am Tuesday morning, so I was a zombie most of yesterday.
Christopher got his flight itinerary and will fly out on the 22nd of this month and will get back in late October, about a week earlier than he originally thought, so he was happier. He thinks that they going easy on him because he has thrown so many innings this year including his College season also. He said that they asked him how his arm felt and he told them that it doesn't hurt but, it feels like the stamina doesn't last as long as it did earlier in the year. They had figured that he's thrown over 160 innings, so they may let him loose a little earlier than everybody else.
I've added the AYA Football Schedule to their link above, check it out!
I imagine I'll be hitting all the local football games this Friday night, see ya'll on the Grid-Iron!

Name the four Georgia football players who have had their
jerseys retired. Answer: Frank Sinkwich, Charley Trippi,
Theron Sapp and Herschel Walker. Winner: Joey Martin.
Who is the second-leading rusher in New Orleans Saints history?
Answer: Dalton Hilliard. Winner: Joey Martin.
Last Friday night was better in the Miss-Lou, for most anyway! ACCS made it an easy one against Huntington and the reserves played from late in the 2nd quarter throughout the ball game. Cathedral breezed through West Lincoln and their reserves saw plenty of action also. Natchez High got dealt a severe blow by Warren Central, and again, turnovers cost them dearly. Trinity (which I thought would have been the best game in town to watch) cruised over Prairie View and their reserves (what few they have) played early one through the game. Vidalia made it look easy over Avoyelles and the Vikings keep churning on!
Next up: ACCS host Copiah in a key district game, this should be a good one. Cathedral heads out to face a tough Mize team. Natchez High opens district at Picayune. Trinity travels to Tri-County and Vidalia host Rayville.
Christopher heads out this Wednesday for Peoria, AZ and the Instructional League. This league consists of players that are invited to play from the organizations AA, A and Rookie Leagues. Christopher will only be there for 4 weeks, then he'll be home until late February.
I'll be headed to Tupelo this weekend for an Outdoors Expo, Redneck Adventures will have a booth and entertain the crowd.
I saw Mr. Martin at the ACCS/Huntington game last Friday night and Joey was with him! Joey's son Jake is already bigger than Joey! I told him he better whoop him one last time because it might be his last chance! Jake said he's enjoying playing Jr. High football at Vidalia.
I went out to Beau Pre' C.C. this past Saturday and got a round of golf in, I shot an 86, which ain't too bad considering I haven't been playing much, three 3 putts didn't help either! But I paid for it as my summer time cold kicked back in and it sidelined me for the rest of the weekend. Anyway, I laid up and watched the Ryder Cup, which the USA lost, but they looked like they had a chance for a while anyway....maybe next time!
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll next week, not sure if I'm coming home on Sunday or Monday of next week.

View. Name him. Answer: Bennie Goods. Winner: Eddie
Brewer.
What NFL QB threw three TD's on three consecutive passes?
Answer: Bob Griese. Winner: Joey Martin.
ACCS knocked off district opponent Copiah last Friday night 24-0, Dustin Case suffered a broken arm but, he'll probably got a cast that he can play in, so don't count him out just yet. Cathedral took a thumping from Mize, 51-0 in district play, the injury bug has plagued them really hard this year. Natchez High lost to Picayune 28-6, the Dogs seemed to play better "D" this week, now they'll be looking for more "O". Trinity won over a highly touted Tri-County 39-29, Stevan Ridley accounted for all their points and their stingy defense played well. Vidalia takes one on the chin from Rayville 34-0, The Viking turned the ball over 8 times and just couldn't muster anything on offense.
Next up....ACCS at Oak Forest, Cathedral at Mt. Olive, Natchez High host Meridian, Trinity at Centreville and Vidalia at Jena.
The first Mayor's Cup was played this past weekend out at Duncan Park Golf Course with 91 players in the competition. Gary Farmer, Bill McKenzie, Lloyd Trisler and Allen Tyra won the Championship Flight with a score of 126.
Well we dumped Christopher off at the Baton Rouge Airport last Tuesday and he took off for Peoria, AZ and the Instructional League. He called me later that night and he's rooming with one of his teammates from the Rookie League. He said the weather is much better, although it's still in the 90's, it's better than 115! He said they work out every morning until about 11:30am and have the rest of the day off. He threw a bullpen on Thursday and they changed up his motion from the stretch, they got him to moving a little faster so he won't be dragging his arm anymore. He said it feels better and his velocity picked up also. All in all, he seems to be much happier this time out, he'll be back home around the 23rd of October.
I spent this past weekend in Tupelo, MS and attending the Outdoor Bonanza at the Tupelo Furniture Market complex. This place was huge and the crowds were great! We gave away T-shirts and threw Foam Brick at the kids. If you're an avid outdoorsman, you don't need to miss this show next year, most of the vendors were selling items at cost or below, it was amazing!
I'm changing the way I do the Sports Buzz, I'm trying to squeeze in 2 football games each week, I hope ya'll enjoy this better. I'll just rotate the teams from the area and give everybody some time on the tube.
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll on the BOARD!

the SEC with 20. Answer: Chris Williams and Bobby Wilson.
Winner: Casey Cox.
Peyton Manning threw five TD passes against Green Bay Sunday. Name the former
NFL quarterback who had six. Answer: Daryl Lamonica.

Friday night wasn't very good for the Miss-Lou, all the area teams suffered losses. ACCS fell to Oak Forest 39-3, costly turnover before the half turned thing around for the Rebels. Cathedral is just hanging on, with the injuries they already have, a few more missed some game time with injuries during their game with Mt. Olive with the Green Wave dropping another one 46-7. I've already heard that some that were injured during this game, will be back this week. Natchez High lost to Meridian 59-34 but, the Bulldogs played much better football, they gave up 28 pts. in the first quarter and outscored the #5 team in the State 34-31 through the final 3 quarters. I think they gained a lot of confidence in this one. Trinity lost a close one to Centreville, with the score tied at 21 apiece, Trinity kicked off and didn't have a good connection, it gave the Tigers the ball with short field to work with and they punched it in with little time left on the clock. Nobody expected the Saints to even be close in this contest but, they keep showing everybody that they are the little engine that could. Vidalia loses a heart breaker to Jena 28-21, with 30 seconds left in the game, Jena scored to steal the win.
This Friday night, ACCS will travel to take on WCCA, Cathedral will host Enterprise, Natchez High will go to Hattiesburg, Trinity will host Columbia and Vidalia will host Lake Providence.
Christopher pitched last Saturday and started the first 2 innings again, he gave up two hits, had two strike outs and didn't give up any runs. He told me that they are now working with him on his wind-up, they got him taking the glove over his head, they said it will help him stay behind more on his delivery. I guess that's been one of the major problems, flying open too soon and losing velocity. He said that now he's having to aim a little differently as his fast ball is moving a lot more but, he said he'll get used it. He really seems to be enjoying this league much more than the Rookie league but, he's still ready to get home!
Joey Martin almost got a sweep in the Trivia but, one correct answer came in over the weekend for the block!
Major League baseball play-offs start Tuesday night and I'm ready to see the Braves kick everybody's behind! OK, it may not happen but, I'm still ready.
Ichiro Suzuki broke the single season record for hits over the weekend with 258, a record that had stood for 84 years!
I went to the hunting camp this weekend to get the camp ready for the upcoming season, so I met coach Gill Morris out there and while we cleaned up, we had the tube on watching the games. There's not many things more fun to watch game with Gill and the Yankees lose and so do the Crimson Tide, all in one evening. Roll Tide? HaHaHaHa...I loved it!!!!!
Redneck Adventures will be entertaining Rick Steiner on Thursday and Friday, Rick loves to bow hunt so, we're taking him out for that and we're also going over to Louisiana for some squirrel hunting and maybe even shoot some skeet. The Rassl'n Matches are this Saturday night at the City Auditorium downtown. The majority of the tickets have already been sold, so be sure and buy your tickets early. The Sports Center has them and I believe that La Fiesta has them also.
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll on the Board!

Answer: Steve Spurrier. Winner: Andrew Ketchings.
Who was the top individual medalist at the SEC Golf Championships last year?
Answer: Georgia's Brendon Todd. Winner: Andrew Ketchings.
ACCS topped WCCA 27-7 last Friday night in Woodville, the Rebels played hard even with the loss of a few key players, it shows you what kind of heart they have! Cathedral is another playing with a lot of heart also as they upended Enterprise 35-6 in a district match-up. Natchez High took another blow from Hattiesburg 38-8, key mistakes continue to cost the Dogs. Trinity lost a close one to Columbia Academy 12-8 in a district game, the Saints outplayed them on the Stats but as we all know, the scoreboard decides the outcome. Vidalia takes the cake over Lake Providence 18-0 to seal a homecoming victory.
ACCS will host a very tough Central Hinds team this Friday night, play-off implications can be decided in this contest. Cathedral will host Stringer and the Greenies should get the "W" in this one. Natchez High travels to Hancock and if the Bulldogs cut down the mistakes, they have a chance. Trinity's at home against Bowling Green, the Saints should take this one. Vidalia goes to McCall for a tough match-up, there's no room for mistakes in this one.
The AYA football games were cancelled on Saturday, October 9, These games will be made up on October 30. Please resume the regular schedule next week (playing at Trinity)
Christopher pitched last week and got the start on the hill and pitched 2 innings again, he gave up 1 run on 2 hits with 1 strikeout, the run was unearned. He said that he'll have a week off to rest his arm and will pitch again this Wednesday. 2 more weeks and he'll be home.
Redneck Adventures had Rick Steiner hunting deer with his bow last Thursday and Friday plus, we took him hog catching one evening, he had a blast and is setting up a time to come back and stay longer to bow hunt some more and he wants to go down to south Louisiana and try out the bow-fishing. Saturday night was the big Rassl'n night and the place was packed! We had front row seats for the event and we had us a good ole time. Later that night, we headed back out to the hunting camp and NWO Sting and D'Lo Brown joined us, they learned how to shoot a bow and took on several people in arm wrestling. They were some really nice guys, Buddy Landell was at Cedar grove Plantation but he had the flu and couldn't join us that night but, he was there for breakfast the next morning and invited us to his hunting lodge in Virginia. All the guys put on a great show for the audience and I hope they do this again. One thing puzzled me, I didn't see Patrick Jones anywhere!
Joey Martin got swept this week in his Trivia questions, first one in while! I think he got soft last week.
The Sports Buzz will have the Cathedral/Enterprise game this week, catch it this Wednesday evening at 6pm.
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll on the Board!

Answer: Don Majkowski. Winner: Eddie Brewer.
When Tom Fears was named head football coach of the first New Orleans Saints
team, who were the other two leading candidates? Answer:
Dallas defensive coordinator Dick Nolan and UCLA coach Tommy Protho. Winner:
Joey Martin.
ACCS was in the game but, fell to Central Hinds 21-7, there's just too many players out with injuries, but they still clinched a play-off spot and will play the winner of the Oak Forest/Centreville game come play-off time. Cathedral bumped off Stringer 12-6 and a victory next week could place them in 3rd in the play-offs at this point, with the loss of many of their players, the Greenies are playing with a lot of heart and determination right now. Natchez High just about had a victory in the bag but a late drive by Hancock put then away 32-28, these Dogs are getting better each week, the only problem is, the season is almost over. Trinity came out asleep at the wheel against Bowling Green and went into the locker room at halftime down 23-0, whatever Coach King said to them must of been an eye opener as the Saints came back to win 29-23. Vidalia gets a big "W" over McCall 20-16 and improves their record to 4-3 on the year.
Next Friday night, ACCS travels to Riverfield, Cathedral travels to Salem for a Thursday night game, Natchez High host Northwest Rankin, Trinity goes to Brookhaven and Vidalia will host Delhi.
I got to enjoy the Great Mississippi River Balloon Race Sunday morning, as I went to get my paper out of the driveway, I looked up and saw around 10 balloonist passing overhead and boy were they moving! I don't know how fast they travel but, it's a lot faster than I thought!
Mostly this weekend, I watched baseball on the tube, the Astro's aren't going down without a fight and the same goes for the Sox but, I'm still believing that we'll see a Yankee's/Cardinals World Series.
Christopher will be home next Sunday, he still hasn't pitched since the first 2 weeks and he's doesn't know if he'll pitch this week either, I guess they're just protecting their investment as he's pitched so much this year, heck, I don't know! But he did give us an order for when he gets home....he wants a big ole down home country cooking set up at the table when he walks through the door!
We're suppose to be getting some more rain this week so, I guess I'll be headed out to my hunting camp this week to plant, I know, I'm late but, I don't want them deer eating my grass until I'm sitting there in my box blind with a high powered rifle. Did I ever mention that my box blind has a carpeted floor and a heater? Nothing like roughing it! A laptop also goes well in the stand, you can watch movies or play games, it helps the time go by too!
Ole or I should say OLD Gill Morris ain't gonna be fun to hang around this hunting season, he's already downed two doe with his bow, one at our camp and another at a friends camp...I know what ya'll are thinking, he doesn't have any friends but, anyway, that's what he told me, it's probably one of those "Pay" hunt things he went on. So with meat in the freezer, he may a lazier hunter than me this year!
I got word that former Trinity baseball star Gregory Ketchings has been tearing it up this Fall with the Co-Lin Baseball team, Gregory's been playing 2nd base for the Wolfpack and has held his own against the competition, he's made some impressive plays in the field and has been hitting the ball really hard.....beat of luck Gregory, we're pulling for ya!
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll on the Board!

receive? Answer: Houston and Leon Gray. Winner: John L.
Sullivan.
Who was the MVP of the 1998 Outback Bowl in which Georgia beat Wisconsin 33-6?
Answer: Mike Bobo. Winner: John L. Sullivan.
ACCS upended Riverfield 35-17 but, it took the Rebels until after halftime to decide to come out and play as they were down 17-14, they roared back to take this one by scoring 21 points in the second half. Cathedral all but had this one wrapped up against Salem but, the fourth quarter wasn't friendly to the Green Wave as they fell in this one 21-14. Natchez High got schooled this week to a very tough Northwest Rankin team 56-16. Trinity took a tough one on the chin from Brookhaven Academy 33-32, this game could have been won by either team and hats off to the Saints for another had fought battle. Vidalia cruises through Delhi 42-8 as their defense held them to minus 6 yards rushing.
ACCS travels to Brookhaven Academy, Cathedral host Bogue Chitto, Natchez High host Oak Grove, Trinity travels to Central Hinds and Vidalia has an open date.
I went to the hunting camp last Wednesday and got all my food plots planted, there were a bunch of members staying out there for the week, so I stayed as well. We got a lot of stuff done that had needing to be fixed for a while, so now all that's out of the way!
Joey's News is updated today from last week, so if you haven't seen it in print, now's your chance to catch up! Also, Joey got swept on last week's trivia...good job ya'll!
I picked up Christopher from the airport yesterday and we had a big feast at the house last night, he said the coaches told him not to pick up a baseball until January 2nd......I promise you he'll listen to them on this one! He's just really burnt out right now. He did find out that they moved the Spring Training date back to around March 10th, so he'll have a little more time at home. All he's talked about is going hunting right now.
I've enjoyed watching the World Series and the red Sox seem to have the upper hand right now, even with all the errors they've put up, they just find a way to keep winning. I'm pulling for the Sox, mostly because I'm tired of hearing about "The Curse" but, I hope they play at least 6 games.
I'm headed to Pickwick, TN tomorrow morning to film with the Mississippi Dept. of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks. Dr. Sam Polles and his staff are having a board meeting but before they get to all the important stuff, we're going squirrel hunting and jugging catfish. So if anybody has any rules that they'd like to see changed, let me know and I'll pass the info along. I ain't saying they're gonna listen but.....I'll try!
I guess the upset of the weekend was Miss. State over #19 Florida, Bulldog fans may be seeing a change over the next few years as the new coach can't be expected to take over a team in his first year and do much better. A win like this one should open a few eyes!
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll on the Board later in the week!

the title? Answer: St. Louis catcher Darrell Porter put
the Cardinals on his back and carried them to a title during the 1982
postseason. He won the MVP awards for both the NLCS and the World Series. During
the Fall Classic, Porter batted .286 with eight hits, one home run, and five RBI
in theCards seven-game series win over Milwaukee. Winner: Eddie Brewer.
Who holds the record for most receptions by a Louisiana-Monroe player in a game?
Answer: Jackie Harris
caught 16 passes against Lamar in 1988. Winner: Eddie Brewer.
Can you believe that high school football is almost over? It sure is going by fast! ACCS lost a tough one to Brookhaven Academy last Friday night 22-15 but the Rebels will have some key players returning for next week. Cathedral is doing what it takes to go to the play-offs, they're trying to win out! They overtook Bogue Chitto 30-26 to start things off! Natchez High just got ran over by Oak Grove 53-12 as they just couldn't handle everything that Oak Grove threw at them. Trinity thumps Central Hinds 21-7, that's right, Central Hinds, the team that everybody said would demolish the Saints, they just forgot to tell the Saints about it! Vidalia was off this past week.
ACCS will travel to Centreville for the first round of the play-offs and will face a Tiger team that is riding high right now, and that's good because it's always better to play the underdog role. Cathedral travels to St. Al in a must win situation to make the play-offs and this is the year that the Greenies can put them away. Natchez High has a chance to win another game and it's this week as they travel to play against Brandon. Vidalia trolls over to Ferriday for what's always a great game, you can throw out the record books in this one, it's just more important that that!
Congratulations to coach David King, his staff and the Trinity Saints football team on a fantastic year, ya'll did so much more than people were giving you credit for and ya'll should hold your heads high and know that you got your respect this year. A team that lost so many key players last year to graduation, ya'll showed that being a winner is more than just having talent!
O.K., for you round ball fanatics that are foaming at the mouth, here's your chance to quench your thirst....ACCS is hosting a girls basketball tournament that starts today and goes through most of this week. There's some good teams competing out there this week and you'll see a great effort by all in attendance!
Don't forget that the Sports Buzz comes on every Wednesday and Sunday night at 6pm on Cable One channel 4 in Natchez and Vidalia.
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll on the Board!

franchise record for worst loss in history. Winner: Mike Guedon.
Former Saints owner John Mecom was a stand-in for this actor in the movie
"Across the Wide Missouri" Who was the actor?
Answer: Clark Gable. Winner: Mike Guedon.
ACCS lost to Centreville 14-0 in the first round of the play-offs, they had their chances but penalties plagued them throughout the game. Cathedral did what they needed to do to get to the play-offs, they took down St. Al 28-21. Natchez High finished their season with a loss to Brandon 75-38, penalties were yet again the demise for the Bulldogs. Vidalia overtook Ferriday 14-6 in what is always a slobber-knocker.
Congratulations to Cathedral for making the play-offs, there was a lot of doubt earlier in the year when several starters went out with injuries but, Coach Beesley and his staff found ways to keep winning, best of luck this Friday night.
Also congratulations to the Vidalia Vikings for making the play-offs again, Coach Faircloth always gets his bunch ready come play-off time. What was suppose to be a down year turned out to be better than expected.
Basketball kicked off last week for mostly girls but a few boys teams also played. I'll be gathering schedules to post on here this week. Good luck to all the area teams this year, it should be some fun basketball to watch as there are several teams to watch that will go far in the play-offs.
Hunting is a sport also and with Deer season starting this Saturday for the youth, I'll need reports from ya'll about your Deer harvest. Also, the youth Deer hunt will last a week this year compared to only 2 days in the past. Get out and take a kid hunting, I promise you'll have a great time and you'll feel better about yourself too!
Redneck Adventures went to Leeville, LA last week and we went out Wednesday morning and caught several nice Redfish and a few Specs. That night we went bow-fishing and it was the most fish we've ever encountered. We limited out on Redfish and Drum and a bunch of Sheephead. It was nice to get your limits and be back at the docks early to get a good nights sleep...for once!
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya on the Board!

Northwestern State University football team. Name three of them.

Ricky Merritt of Vidalia and Maxey Smith of South. Winner: Joey Martin.
Who was the first rookie receiver to catch 100 passes? Randy Moss Tory Holt
Anquan Bolden Jerry Rice? Answer: Anquan Bolden. Winner:
Eddie Brewer.
This former governor of Mississippi was the first commissioner of the SEC. Name
him. Answer: Martin S.
Conner. Winner: Eddie Brewer.
Football in the immediate area is over, Cathedral lost to Scott Central 42-6 and Vidalia lost to Port Barre 27-7. Congratulations to these and all the local teams and their coaches for a great effort this year. 3 of the 5 teams made the play-offs which just goes to show everybody that there are some pretty darn good athletes in this area!
Centreville Academy will play for the State Championship this weekend and will face an always tough Simpson Academy team, best of luck to the Tigers and coach Bill Hurst. Centreville put away Oak Forest AGAIN last week 10-0 to advance.
I'm hoping that the top three teams in the BCS polls stay unbeaten, maybe then they'll do something about creating a play-off! My suggestion is simple, go ahead and play the Bowl games but, once it's over, play just one more game for the National Championship. Heck, they don't even have to play the extra game if there's not any controversy! I like what I heard one AP voter say this weekend, don't have any pre-season polls, don't start with the polling until one month into the season. That would be fun because you'd have all the commentators predicting their Top 10. OK, excuse me while I get down off my soapbox.
Basketball is in full swing and I urge ya'll to get out and not only watch your favorite team but, go see some other teams around the Miss-Lou, there's almost always a great game that you'd be sorry to miss had you not been there plus, it gives you the ability to really talk basketball when the occasion arises.
This coming Saturday will be the rivals week in college football, for most anyways. Always a great weekend for football plus, it's the opening of hunting season with guns. I'm looking forward to going to the camp this week, not just for hunting but, all the lies that will be told about the one that got away!
I urge all hunters to remember Safety First, it's easy to get lax (is that a word?) and take guns for granted. Respect all firearms and make sure your kids that hunt alone do the same, even if they think your crazy for drilling them about it! Hadn't you rather them think your crazy than have them hurt themselves? Urge your young hunters to load and unload only on the stand one they're settled in!
Please send me information about deer harvest, if there's a story behind it, pass that to me as well. Pictures are nice too!
I'm not really sure having Christopher home is any different than him being in Arizona, he's been on the road most of time chasing down ball players that he played with last year and they're scattered all over! He left Sunday before yesterday and we got a call saying that he's be home probably Wednesday....probably? He said that he was stopping in Jackson to pick Van Pope up and they wanted to get in some hunting this coming weekend. Of course, that's just a theory, he could blink his eyes two more times and be in Memphis before Friday!!!!
I'm hoping to get the Cathedral/Scott Central game film to show on the Sports Buzz this Wednesday, I talked to JoJo and he said that he'd like for everyone to see this game. Scott Central keeps churning out athletes every year and this one is no different.
Ya'll have a great week and remember to have a safe weekend. I'll see ya'll on the Board!

Answer: John Gruden. Winner: Bill "The Thrill" Darsey.
Which college had the largest number of players in the NFL at the beginning of
the 2004 season? Answer: Miami. Winner: Bill " The Real
Deal" Darsey.
I guess the biggest news from last week was the removal of ACCS head football and athletic director Keith Walters, I was as shocked as everyone on hearing the news and even more puzzled when I heard the reason why he was "let go!" As most of you know, I am an ACCS Alumnus and while I may not always agree on the decisions that are made at my former school, I still have to support them in their decisions but, please give the man a better answer to his release than "We don't like the way the program is headed!" Huh? Making the play-offs the last 2 years straight is the wrong direction? I don't think so! There's got to be more to it than this and all I'm saying is....Give the man the truth, if there is some other reason, he deserves to hear it so he won't make that mistake on the next job he takes.
Congratulations to The Centreville Tigers on a great season, after I watched them play ACCS at the first of the year, I didn't give them much of a chance to even make the play-offs but, they proved me wrong and it just goes to show you that, winning is more than just running the plays, when you used to winning, you don't know any other way!
The Franklin County Bulldogs are still in the hunt after beating Tylertown 28-21. This after a one of their players died in a freak accident at school last week. My prayers are with his family and friends.
Brent Tosspon was selected to be on the MACJC (Mississippi Comm/Jr College) All Star team! They will play one game on December 4, 2004 at Booneville Mississippi. There will be a couple of days of practice and evaluations and meetings with college coaches before the game. Congratulations Brent!
I've been at my hunting camp since last Wednesday, Christopher came home with one of his former teammates Van Pope, who is playing with the Atlanta Braves minor league system. They checked our box stands for wasp and any other creatures that might have been occupying the space in the off season. Although they said they only saw 2 wasp in one stand, they emptied the can between the 2 stands that I have, I think they really just liked to see that can spray 22 feet! Mostly, they just ate everything in site at the camp while they were there, they're like bottomless pits!
Opening morning of deer season was slow, nobody brought anything back to the camp but, the evening hunt was much better. Charlie Sanders tagged a nice doe and Loney Bell got a really nice buck, 240 lb. 8 point with a 18-1/4" spread. Here's a picture of his buck for ya'll to take a gander at: loneysbuck
Joey Martin got swept last week in the Trivia questions, first time in a while. I hope his feelings ain't hurt but, we'll find out in this weeks questions, won't we?
I'll be headed back to the hunting camp about the middle of the week, some bad weather is suppose to be headed our way and hopefully, it'll be gone by the time I get back out there.
Ya'll have a Happy Thanksgiving and I'll catch ya'll next week!

Name the WCCA quarterback who passed for 1,124 yards in 1990. Answer: Clint Hurst. Winner: Ron Rushing.
Bonus Questions
Name the person who holds the career and season best mark for field goal
percentage among Alabama basketball players. Answer: Bobby
Lee Hurt. Winner: Paul Sparks.
Name the NFL player who returned a field goal 107 yards for a TD?
Answer: Chris McAlister. Winner: Brandon Gousset.
I hope everybody enjoyed the Thanksgiving Holidays, I sure did and my belly will back me up on it! I enjoyed my dinner out at the hunting camp while trying my hardest to bag a buck but, it didn't happen. My old school buddy David Portal knocked down a nice 8 pt., it weighed 150 lbs. so we figured it must have been a young one, it was still a nice deer to take and will surely fit in the freezer! Charlie Sanders got a doe and since he got this one early, he's let a few pass hopefully awaiting on a buck. Please e-mail me about any deer that your club has harvested.
I guess the biggest news on Thanksgiving sports was, Peyton Manning chunking 6 TD's to raise him to 41 on the year and 7 behind Dan Marino, at the rate he's going, he's on pace to make it 60!!!! I don't think he'll get 60 but, I do think he'll make a mark that won't be touched for quite awhile.
I've got the BCS Blues......I want the SEC to play for the National Championship but, USC & Oklahoma pretty much have it tied up, the only chance Auburn has is for Oklahoma to lose the Big 12 Championship against Colorado.....and that ain't happening! Of course Auburn has to knock off Tennessee in the SEC Championship too.
I may be wrong but, I think we're fixing to see the worse set of Bowl games in history! Teams that are ranked high are going to have to play teams that are just flat out, "Out of their League!" I'm predicting Blow Out City this year and I hope that this will finally make the people responsible for these games, stand up and take notice. It's a mess and everybody knows it, it just has to do with MONEY!!!! I mean gimme a break.... Boise State and Utah?
Franklin County's dreams of a State Championship were dashed when they fell in a hard fought ballgame to West Lauderdale 7-0. Congratulations to all the Bulldogs faithful on a great season!
It's official, Ron Rushing will return to coaching out at ACCS, he'll help Gill Morris in baseball and also help out in football next year. Everybody's wondering, who will be the new football coach next year? Hey, I'm wondering myself and ya'll be the first to know when I find out!
Ya'll have a great week, I know it'll be hard after having a short week last week but, hang in and before you know it, it'll be Christmas! See ya'll on the Board!........P.S. Go Bolts!!!!!

What QB was sacked 76 times in one season? Answer: David
Carr. Winner: Porky Smith.
Name the Northeast Louisiana basketball player who won Collegiate Slam Dunk
Championship in 1991? Answer: Carlos Funchess. Winner:
Joey Martin.
Joey Martin almost swept the Trivia, if if hadn't have been a phone call from ole Porky Smith on my way out of town last Friday.
I hope Porky's reading this today as L.C. Smith and Larry Davis were at our house last night and said they were listening to Porky and Rosco the other night while 95 Country was at the ACCS/Trinity basketball game. They were telling me that baseball was brought up and they were talking about players from the Miss-Lou that were playing professional, they mentioned some names and finally one of them said, "There's one more we're forgetting about...oh yeah, Nook Logan" L.C. & Larry surely thought they were going to say Christopher but, it never happened, and Larry said, "And they were at AC's gym!" I still find it hard to believe that Porky would forget Christopher! You must be getting old, my ole buddy!
Well, it's official.....USC vs. OU in the Ernge Bowl! Auburn has a case but, you gotta believe that the non-conference games hurt them! An Auburn vs. VT game should be fun to watch though.
I don't have any idea who Ole Miss is going to get to coach them next year, Zook, Petrino? Whoever it is only has to do one thing to keep the "Powers" happy, just win the SEC Championship game and your job will be secure! ( I still can't believe they fired Cutt)
San Diego Chargers season record 9-3 - New York Giants season record 5-7, Eli Manning....great choice! I'll NEVER like Eli, just as I NEVER liked John Elway! The System works for everybody but them!
Well, Redneck Adventures is suppose to be heading to Belzona (sp?) MS today to go Duck Hunting on a Preserve, and on a Preserve, there ain't no limits! At least, that's what I'm hearing. We're going with "Delta Ducks and More" in the morning and then we'll be hunting Chuckers in the evening. (A Chucker is a bird that is brought in from New Mexico) they're suppose to be a really fun sporting bird and we'll take aim at them and see! Thursday, we're heading over to Columbia, MS to shoot Quail with Saucier Quail Farm, they are also a Preserve. We filmed with them last year and had a great time.
Upon request from several people, I'll be running the AC/TE basketball game again this week, so if you missed it the first time, it'll be on again this Wednesday and Sunday at 6pm.
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll when I get back!

Who was the first player to win the NBA Playoff's "Most Valuable Player" honors
twice? Answer: Willis Reed. Winner: Eddie Brewer.
I received an e-mail last Monday from Eddie Brewer, it stated that he was going to sweep Joey in the Trivia, within a short time I got his next e-mail, he had answered 2 of them correctly but missed the last one, I e-mailed him back that he missed one and within minutes, he sent back the third correct answer. So the question is, can Joey keep him from sweeping this week? OK Martin, the ball's in your court!
Here's my Eli Manning report from Sunday, 4 for 18, 27 yds, 0 TD's and 2 picks, he was pulled in the 4th qtr. hahahaha.....Eli Who? and on a side note, Drew Brees was 17 for 23, 220 yds., 2 TD's and 2 picks, but his team WON! Go Bolts!!!!
I did something Sunday that I usually don't do, I watched the Saints! and they won over the Cowboys, poor Parcells, what has he got to be thinking bout now?
USC's Matt Leinart won the Heisman, OU's freshman Peterson came in second! Great stories on both of these young men, they overcame obstacles in life to get where they are today.
I got a deer report from a couple weeks back that I forgot to mention, my nephew Garret got him a nice 8 pt. buck with a 18-1/2" spread while hunting with his buddy Leo Joseph off Pine Ridge Rd. They filmed the whole thing but, they haven't given me any video as of yet.
Last Monday evening, Redneck Adventures traveled to Belzoni, MS to Delta Ducks and More, this is a Duck Preserve, so you can shoot as many as your pocket-book will allow. They got the Ducks too, we got out limit of 10 in an hour. That evening we went with Delta Pheasants, also a Preserve. We got 25 Chuckers (a New Mexico bird) 4 Quail and one nice Pheasant. The accommodations were fantastic and the food was even better. They are fixing to start up deer hunting next year with 1200 acres under high fence and they already have some really nice deer. They also have skeet shooting and bass fishing. You can check out their web-site at www.deltaducks.net
Redneck Adventures will be heading just outside Columbia, MS this Thursday to shoot Quail at Saucier Quail Farm, we were suppose to go last Thursday but, the rain changed our plans. We'll be taking a few of our sponsors so it should be a really fun time. Check out this Quail Preserve at www.saucierquail.com It's a short drive and they have all the birds you can shoot. They also offer Chuckers and Pheasants.
Out at Triangle Hunting Club, we're 3 deer behind where we were last year, it seems a lot worse but, maybe it's just because it's been so warm lately. That's fixing to change because it's gonna get cold this week! Remember to winterize your camps if you're not going to be there during the week.
Deer hunting with guns opens back up this Thursday, most of the schools, if not all, will be out, and I know I'm beating a dead horse here but, Please keep safety first, every year we hear about an accident that could have been prevented because of the lack of safety. A story came up while I was at the camp this year, a man saw some bush's moving while he was on his stand and shot into them thinking it was a deer, it turned out to be his grandson. This is why I urge safety, instances just like this one happen every year.
There's so many basketball games going on around the Miss-Lou that it's hard to cover them all, I read the paper and try to keep up with everything, teams are just pushing to play well and sharpen their skills because after the Holiday break, things really start to heat up. Play-off atmosphere is in the air and this is when basketball is its best. Best of luck to all the area teams!
I'll be somewhere either tonight or tomorrow night to get some good basketball footage for the Sports Buzz this week and I'll have the hunt from Delta Ducks and More as well.
Ya'll have a great week and I'll catch ya'll later!

1956? Answer: Johnny Majors. Winner: Eddie Brewer.
Who was the opposing pitcher when Don Larson pitched his perfect game in the
World Series? Answer: Sal Magilie. Winner: Eddie Brewer.
I'm sure that the ratings for NFL football game last night were high, Peyton breaking the TD record has been the talk all week on ESPN and other media also. But, we'll have to wait another week to see if he can eclipse the mark set years ago by Dan Marino.
Eli Manning on the other hand, did play better this week and his Giants have a chance to make the play-offs! That is, if about 8 teams in their conference have plane crashes!
Joey's Trivia has been getting busted early every week, this time it wasn't all by the same person at least. Joey's going to have to toughen up some!
The hunting got better out at my camp this past week, we had several deer harvested, nothing to brag about but we did have three bucks taken along with a couple of doe.
I stopped by Chuck Rasco's house yesterday to see the buck he took, it's a really nice 9 pt. with a 20-1/2" spread, good long tines and evenly matched. The buck weighed 235lbs. Congratulations Chuck, I'm waiting to hear what it scores, I'm guessing between 140 to 150 gross.
I also got a report that David Alton New III got a 8 pt. buck that scored in the 140's, that's got to be a man! His cousin Leo Joseph got a 10 pt. that I believe they said scored in the 130's. Way to go guys!
Redneck Adventures went to Goss, MS last week to Saucier Quail Preserve and knocked down 37 birds, we had some of our sponsors there, Universal Outdoors, Scott Tractor and Go Mart. Some of the birds we jumped would come out three at a time, and it sounded like World War III every time it happened! Saucier Quail is located about 8 miles north of Columbia, MS on Hwy. 13. For $110 you and your friends can take 20 birds with a guide and dogs. Very inexpensive and I promise you'll have a blast!
I came home from the hunting camp yesterday with a cold, not the best time of the year to catch one, with hunting season just starting to really get hot. Hopefully, I can beat this thing out before I head back to the woods after the Christmas Holidays.
Ya'll have a safe and Happy Holidays and I'll catch ya'll next week!

game? Answer: Shawn Griggs of Ferriday with 10 against
Tennessee in 1991. Winner: D.J.

Who was the only designated hitter to be an MVP in a World Series?
Answer: Paul Molitor. Winner: D.J.
Which player is the only one to play in four Final 4 games?
Answer: Christian Laettner. Winner: D.J.
Well I'm actually writing this on Sunday evening as I'm headed to Sumrall, MS for my grandmother's birthday on Monday morning, she turns 106 years old! Her health has been getting bad this year and who knows if she'll be us next year so, the whole family is headed there to celebrate.
My Bolts almost pulled it off over the Colts but, Peyton lit it up again for the win in overtime and also passed Marino for the overall TD record in a season at 49. What a game to watch! They both had already clinched the play-offs but, the third spot in that conference means a lot come play-off time.
I heard bad news for ACCS baseball player David Alton New III, I don't know the details but, it involved a tree stand and something happened and ended up with a broken pelvis. I don't think it was a fall, I think they were working on it or something of that nature. David Alton is an integral part of the ACCS Rebel Baseball program and does an excellent job at third base...and he swings a pretty mean bat too! Here's wishing him a speedy recovery.
I received all the correct answers from one person in the Trivia Contest but, all he left me was his initials.....D.J. So Congratulations D.J.!!!!
I'll post Joey's Trivia question when I get back into town...hopefully!
I haven't had much luck in the hunting category and Christopher called his buddy Leo Joseph and told him to get us a deer, this was about 2pm one evening, Leo called back around 4:30pm and told Christopher to come pick up his deer meat but, he couldn't keep the head as Leo downed a really nice 9 pt. that scored in the 140's, the buck weighed 240 lbs.!!!!! So the pressure is off some, we could use one more deer and I think we cam manage that.
I'll probably be out at my hunting camp all week trying to catch a deer in rut, Coach Morris says that our deer don't go into rut, sounds like frustration to me!
Redneck Adventures will be filming a Crow hunt this week with Crow Master "Cracky McDaniel" and we're suppose to film a Coon hunting show one night also, it'll be different than most outdoors shows but, Hey, that's what we're all about anyway!
Some of you may have noticed that "The Sports Buzz" wasn't on last week, I had to make a decision that I really regretted, I had to drop the show because Redneck Adventures has grown to the point that most all of my time either has me out in the field or in front of the editing machine producing shows. Also, we're adding new markets this year in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Alexandria and hoping to go national on the Men's Channel. So I'll be pitching the show to potential sponsors as well. As much as I enjoyed filming all the local action and getting to know the kids, I don't have much of a choice in the matter. I have to do what's in the best interest for me and my family. I'll continue the MissLouSports.Com web page and update as much as I can, I usually always try to get it done every Monday morning, if I can't, I'll post on the Bulletin Board when I do get it updated. I appreciate everything that all the coaches and players have done for The Sports Buzz and wish all of them the best in their endeavors.
Until next week, ya'll have a good'un!
